"Symbiote speaking." I'm using bold to represent the echoing voice symbiotes have when they speak.
"Host speaking."
-Symbiote speaking to host.-
Host speaking to symbiote.
“My host was shot in the chest a while back.” Malek stated as Ari scanned his body. “It was a few years after I first joined him. We were also exposed to a contagious degenerative disease not long ago that I eventually cured. I got imprisoned in a tomb thanks to the Asgard, for some reason I was not exempt from the device used to find Goa’uld and imprison them. I must assume my initial joining with Louis affected the machine somehow.”
“Initial joining?” Ari asked.
“Louis was not originally a truly willing host, when I took him as my host, Misha begged me to save him and he took me into his body but he was not appreciative in the beginning.”
“Yet he is here now and willing?”
“Over time Louis accepted me but I think that somehow Louis’s initial thoughts of our joining may have affected the Asgard device. Perhaps the device uses the human mind to judge the symbiote within?” Malek commented. “Anyhow myself and the Jaffa Teal’c suffered from the device and spent several hours healing afterwards, thanks to an Unas.”
“An Unas?” Ari repeated startled.
“Yes, an Unas.” Malek repeated dryly. “And a Goa’uld host to boot. Tried to convince us to turn on O’Neill and kill him, but was angered when he learned Teal’c was a rebel and I was a Tok’Ra. We fought and he added more injuries to our body. Then there was the time me and Louis were cloned.”
“You’ve had some adventures.” Ocker commented with amusement from the bed he was sitting on. Ocker, Delek and two other Tok’Ra were staring at Malek with open mouths and eyes filled with curiosity. “Tell me the whole story!” Ocker demanded as his medic ran a device up and down his form.
“Well…” Malek began slowly. “Before the humans knew I was there Louis was sent on a mission to Abydos. Apophis happened to gate to Abydos not a few hours later and Louis was standing guard at the gate with a few Abydonians. Despite my presence even he could not avoid the shots and we got blasted in the chest. We were the only ones to live, the two Abydonians and two soldiers died, fortunately the Jaffa and Apophis never noticed as the Naquadah of the gate covered my presence so they presumed everyone was dead. When they rescued Louis they discovered me and they were angered that Louis never told them about me, but the situation was quickly resolved as I was made a part of the team.”
“Why didn’t they know about you?”
“Well when Louis and Misha were dying Misha somehow convinced Louis to accept me but when I joined him he was adamant that the humans not know about me. I remained hidden but as I said I didn’t remain hidden for long as their medics soon found me after that incident and then Louis had to confess the circumstances that brought us together. Louis was afraid of the reactions of the others but over time he realised that being my host was nothing to be ashamed about and he allowed me to take control and to live alongside him.”
“And the Unas?”
“We visited a planet which Daniel was very excited about, he kept mumbling some historical phrases, something to do with ‘Thor’s hammer’. It turned out the hammer was actually a device that detected the presence of the Goa’uld. Only the device reacted negatively to me too. O’Neill grabbed Teal’c as Teal’c began to scream but instead of pulling Teal’c away from the device he got dragged into it with us. We ended up in a cavern littered with bones of Goa’uld and their hosts. The caves were a prison for Goa’uld, the only way out was through a force-field but before we found it we were confronted with an Unas. The Unas thought I was Goa’uld and that Teal’c was my Jaffa, he demanded that we obey him and kill O’Neill but I made it clear that I was not Goa’uld and that I would protect O’Neill. We fought and we believed the Una’s was killed. We found the force-field but when Teal’c and myself tried to step through it we were assaulted with pain, the device was killing myself and Teal’c’s prim’ta. The Unas returned and Teal’c somehow managed to get the Unas into the force-field to kill the Goa’uld within it. O’Neill pulled Teal’c from the field before he could also die but we were trapped. Daniel was forced to destroy the device so myself and Teal’c could leave.”
“The device did not recognise you?”
“No and I do not understand why. But as I have said I believe it is to do with Louis’s reluctance from our initial joining.” Malek answered. “It took myself and Teal’c several hours to heal and several days to mentally recover from the assault. When we went on the mission after that we were sent to a place called ‘The Land Of Light’. One half is forever in darkness, the other in light. The gate was on the ‘dark-side’ and it was filled with primitive humans. We were planning on returning to Earth when I noticed a discrepancy in the blood. I realised we were infected with a virus and the virus somehow reverted the human body and mind into its primitive state. I was able to produce a cure which was used to immunize the humans and to save the infected ones that were living on the ‘dark-side’.”
“And the clones?”
“We went to a world that seemed aged and abandoned. Despite the interesting technology we agreed that it was wise to return to the SGC but before we could there was a great light. When we awoke we were somehow pinned to a bed. We could barely move and were left there for some time, not even my strength could free us. I remember seeing my hosts face appear above me twice. My host and I were cloned twice. It turned out that the people on the planet had ended up killing their worlds and had tried to clone themselves so that the clones could work to save their world, only it didn’t work, the people died and the clones lived forever and they hated it. Only one clone was left and he was lonely and it was he who cloned us. Unfortunately my clones and Teal’c’s clones failed. On both occasions the symbiote mind overpowered the human mind. Teal’c’s clone had to be put down but mine was fine, but saddened by the loss of his Louis. The other clone was more successful as the man only cloned Louis’s mind. The two found me and we had an interesting conversation once they had freed me.”
“You talked to your clones?”
“Yes. I was interested in knowing what it was like to have your own human body and my Malek clone was quite happy to inform me about it all.” Malek explained with a grin. “I also went through a quantum mirror and into another reality. Only this reality was over-run by Goa’uld and we had to escape back to our own reality. Louis was attacked in the escape and we collapsed but thanks to Doctor Fraiser we are alive and well.”
I think you’ve broke them. Louis commented as the Tok’Ra stared at Malek with astounded looks.
-Nope Delek will find his tongue in a moment.- Malek answered. “And of course I also aided in the rescue of Tok’Ra operatives and the destruction of Apophis’s two Ha’taks… Jolinar joined us not that much later and together we ran amuck in the SGC and drove every human crazy. I saved the Earth several times before Jolinar joined but together we kept the Earth safe from crazy bug transformations, invasions and everything else that seemed to have it out for the Tau’ri. And then we found the Tok’Ra.”
“And now you’re both home.” Ari commented. “And something tells me that is just an overview of your adventures.” She added, Malek smirked in response. “You have a clean bill of health; both your host and you are fit. You may go.”
Malek handed Louis control and then burst into laughter as his little fins flapped. –Their faces! Their faces! Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant!-
You should really stop tormenting your brethren so much. Louis reprimanded but Malek happily ignored him because he could sense his host’s amusement.
“So you do have stories to tell.” Delek commented as he was also dismissed. Louis gave the Tok’Ra an amused look as they both strode from the med-room. “I’m glad you both made it home.”
“Malek is also very happy to be home.” Louis commented. “He’s been missing the tunnels and his family very much.”
“How do you think the mind-healing sessions are going to go?”
“They’re probably going to announce that Malek is insane.” Louis said with a grin. “Malek is much more chilled out then he was and enjoys a laugh. He’d probably get a kick from telling his whole gory story to the healer and acting traumatised.”
Delek laughed. “That he would, that he would.”
-Do you think we should tell him about our mate?-
No. Delek used to be your lover stating it so bluntly when he clearly feels something for you would be cruel. Show some tact.
-Fine.- Malek grumbled before curling tightly around his host’s spine and chuckling. –I’m insane huh?-
Yes. Louis stated unrepentantly.
A Tok’Ra guard rushed towards Louis and bowed his head respectfully. “The three missing Tok’Ra have arrived, they are being sent to Ari before they report to you.”
“Good.” Louis replied. “From now on that is how this system will work. They get checked out by the medics before anything else. Are the guards there to ensure the medics don’t get hurt?”
“The Tok’Ra operatives aren’t happy about being escorted like prisoners but I’ve made it clear that it is the new protocols at work and then I informed them that Malek would explain it all once they report to you.”
“Good. Have Ocker escort them to Malek’s office when Ari and Caleb are finished with their examinations.” Louis ordered.
Delek chuckled as the guard rushed away. “You are a natural Louis but you’ve forgotten one important thing. Malek’s office is now your office as well. You should have said ‘…escort them to our office…’.”
-Delek is right. Your word is just as important as mine. You have equal authority to me since you are my host and you can speak for me as much as I can speak for you.- Malek explained fondly. –Now I suggest you go to our office and take Delek with you, it would be much better if Delek is seen supporting our new protocols and helping to explain them as well.-
A united front?
-Yes, somewhat like a united front but also to assure them that they are not prisoners. By making it clear that the council is aware of the new protocols and explaining what those protocols are we can assure the operatives that they are safe.-
“Would you like to accompany us, Delek? Malek thinks that having two council members explaining the new protocols will help calm them.” Louis explained.
“I will gladly come.” Delek answered instantly. “It would be wise to have support so that the Tok’Ra know that their not being targeted. Then there is the fact that many thought Malek dead so they will not know who you are, by having me confirm that you are Louis and you are indeed Malek’s host they will be much calmer.”
“I thought you said no one believed him dead.” Louis commented.
“No one thought he was dead, but at the same time we did not know where you were. Many will be hopeful but also sceptical when you claim to be host to Malek. Malek can confirm that it is indeed him but having support would be a wise precaution.” Delek explained.
-He’s right.- Malek stated. –They will believe I could be an imposter, having another Tok’Ra support our words would be very relieving to the newcomers. I’m sure once all has been explained they’ll be more receptive to the whole idea of our new protocols and my new host.-
They won’t believe I’m your host?
-No. They will know you are a host because they’ll be able to sense me but they can’t tell that your my host until we inform them and after the reports of my death they will be quite sceptical about my true identity until myself, you and Delek prove that I am truly Malek of the Tok’Ra.- Malek explained.
A short while later found the two Tok’Ra in Malek’s office and staring at three very dirty operatives. Their uniforms and skin were covered with mud and the only thing telling them apart was their hair colour and eyes. Delek gave an amused smile before turning serious as three very sharp suspicious glances scanned the room before pinning Louis. “I must assume that you’re Malek?” One spoke, his voice was soft but demanding.
Malek took control and delivered an even sharper glare to the mud-caked individuals, seeing the glare the three of them stepped back and bowed in submission. “I am Malek and I expect you to show proper manners than the manners you have shown me in these last few moments.” He warned, he was offended on behalf of his host but Louis was more amused than insulted.
They’re exhausted Malek, they did not mean to be rude.
“Forgive us, we are tired and we are very upset that we had to be escorted to the healers by armed guard. Have we displeased you?”
“Of course not!” Malek exclaimed. “What you were a part of was a new protocol we have in place. It is a temporary protocol but I’m hoping it will prove good enough to be employed permanently.”
“What is it?” The only woman of the three asked curiously.
“You are aware that we have had some infiltrators in the past but what you are not aware of is that recently we had a very bad case of it. Thoran, an esteemed councillor was killed many years ago and replaced by a Goa’uld.” All three operatives’ eyes widened with realisation as Malek explained. “The imposter than proceeded to manipulate and brainwash Cordesh. I was a victim of this imposter, the Goa’uld informed Ra of who me and Misha were and we were captured. I was fortunate that Louis, my current host took me in but Jolinar was not so fortunate. Jolinar was on the run from an Ashrak when we found her and she had lost Rosha and then she had lost her latest host, but fortunately for her another host became available.”
“So you and Jolinar are safe?”
“We are.” Malek confirmed. “But Jolinar suffered far more than I did. She lost two hosts where I only lost one and whilst I was safe with my host she was on the run and fearing for her life and the life of her hosts.”
“Jolinar is on this base and you may seek her out after you’ve bathed and rested.” Delek added.
“Now…” Malek continued. “…since we were invaded I believed it a wise thing to suggest a way to prevent such invasions again. The people my host come from are very aware of the potential invaders and so they took the same precautions I wish for the Tok’Ra to take now. When an operative comes back through the gate they are medically tested and interviewed to ensure they have no unwanted guests. If the healers know an operative well they can look for the smallest signs of something not being right.”
“This is a good idea.”
“It is.”
“We agree to it. Sorry for our behaviour.”
“There is no need to apologise, just try not to lose your temper the next time.” Malek warned. The mud-caked Tok’Ra looked suitably cowed as the rose and bowed respectively to Malek and then Delek, Malek dismissed them with a wave of his hand and turned to face Delek. “If they were like that I must wonder what the others will be like when they see me and my new host. How long has this ‘discontentment’ been growing?” He asked once the Tok’Ra were gone.
Delek frowned as he walked around the desk and carefully took a seat. “Since you left in all honesty, your death hit us all hard and whilst we all want you back many are worried and doubtful that you may be an imposter. Then you must consider the changes you are enforcing, to them it is as if you are a different symbiote because these ‘protocols’ came with you, on top of that these protocols unintentionally imply that one of the Tok’Ra may be an imposter.”
“So they think I am suspicious or angry at them and using these protocols to ‘punish’ them?” Malek murmured aloud. “Were they not informed that you and I were also tested?”
“Yes and most were satisfied by this but a few are very upset and insulted.” Delek commented. “Fortunately most of the Tok’Ra agree with these new protocols and the few who are against it are outnumbered.” He added.
“That is good to hear.”
“It is.” Delek agreed. “But I was expecting those three to be more offended. I was expecting more protests then what we heard.”
“They are too tired and they dare not argue against two council members.” Malek explained. “But you are correct, there will be many more protests in the near future, but I believe most will complain to the healers rather than seeking us out.”
“And then the healers will bring their complaints to us.” Delek answered in amusement.
“Sir!” A Tok’Ra scout appeared before them with a familiar face behind him. “Councillor Garshaw is here to speak to you.”
“Thank you, my friend.” Malek replied. The scout bowed and left quickly. “Take a seat Garshaw, how may I help you?”
“I’ve come to see the initial results of the new protocols and I’ve also come to deliver some news.” Malek smiled encouragingly as the beautiful woman sat down across from them. “As members of the council it is your right to know the decisions that have been made thus far. The councillors at my base have finally agreed to give the alliance with the Tau’ri a chance, I have also received news that the others have also agreed to give it a chance.”
“This is good news.” Malek commented. “I will be sure to inform Per’sus and Jolinar.”
“There is more Malek.” Garshaw continued. “I have been talking to the councillors on my base and we’ve made a decision. We believe that either you or Jolinar would be the better ambassadors. We are hoping that you would be the ambassador, Malek and that you would speak for the Tau’ri when we have our meetings.”
Malek gasped before smiling and nodding. “I will be honoured to take that position, but I’d also like to inform the Tau’ri of this.”
“Of course.” Garshaw answered. “It would be right to inform them of the decisions made for them but I doubt they’ll complain about you being their ambassador. If they do complain I am sure Jolinar would gladly speak for the Tau’ri, but as I have stated I doubt that will happen.”
Malek nodded and reached over his desk to pick up a small pad. “Here are the preliminary results of the new protocols. So far they do not say much. We have received some complaints but all my people realise that these precautions are necessary, in fact many have commented on how good an idea these protocols are.”
“Malek is correct.” Delek piped up. “We have received many compliments and many words of support.”
“This is good news.” Garshaw commented warmly. “I believe I will take this to my guest quarters and read it thoroughly, then I will visit the healers.”
“Of course.” Malek greed readily. “I will inform them that you will be visiting them in the near future.” Malek leaned back in his seat and smiled warmly. “Since I am now ambassador for the Tau’ri I believe a visit to Earth is long overdue. I would like to request permission to leave and I believe that I’d like to take another Tok’Ra with me. Perhaps Delek and Ocker will accompany me.”
Delek sighed. “Very well Malek, I shall accompany you but I still don’t like the Tau’ri.” He commented. “They are too primitive, too young.”
“Aren’t all hosts’ the same?” Malek asked. “Just because a human doesn’t want to blend does not mean they are stupid or primitive. I can see why they don’t like the idea of becoming hosts, even Louis hated it at first. The Tau’ri are young and afraid, but that is not a bad thing, they have great potential.”
“Are you speaking in defence of your host or for his people?” Delek countered.
“I speak for the Tau’ri.” Malek answered as he shot Delek a glare. “And once you have met the Tau’ri you will understand why.”
“What has endeared them to you?” Delek asked in frustration. “I do not see anything that would make them worthy hosts or allies and yet you defend them!”
“Delek.” Malek’s voice made the male Tok’Ra pause and meet Malek’s gaze. “If you cannot see how worthy they are then your eyes are not open. My host and Jolinar’s host have proved time and time again that the Tau’ri are worthy allies. Louis and Samantha are wise and they’ve bought excitement and knowledge to our people.”
“But the Tau’ri are too dangerous, Malek, they are too trigger happy, too paranoid and too fearful of us. They’d rather kill us.”
“And does the same not apply to us? Are we not paranoid and fearful? Every day we are at risk of discovery, every day we’re at risk of dying and every time one of us are undercover we’re terrified of being discovered and tortured. The Tau’ri are no different from us.” Malek paused for a few moments to let his words sink in before meeting his brother’s eyes. “And can we really blame them for not wanting to be hosts? Even our own hosts were terrified when it first happens because of what we must do and what we are. Mentally we are completely different from our Goa’uld cousins but physically we are the same and we must invade the body in much the same way as a Goa’uld would. Yes our hosts agree to be hosts but I cannot blame any human for not wanting a creature to burrow into their body.”
“You have given me much to think about Malek.” Garshaw commented, her voice reminded the arguing siblings of her presence and as one they turned to her. “Malek is right Delek, if you were a human would you want a Goa’uld or a creature like a Goa’uld burrowing into your body?”
“No, but…”
“The Tau’ri have yet to learn we are different and it is up to us to teach them that we Tok’Ra are better than the Goa’uld. I suggest that you keep your opinions to yourself and your host if you do happen to go with Malek. Now, I will leave you and read these initial reports in privacy. I give you leave to go Malek but I suggest you make plans before leaving home again, many will be displeased to find out you are leaving so shortly after your miraculous return.”
“Hmm…I suppose the visit to the Tau’ri can wait a few more days, besides it will give my host a chance to try and knock some sense into Delek.” Malek answered in amusement.
“Knock some sense into me?” Delek asked confused. “Surely you do not intend to beat me up.”
Malek chuckled. “No, no, my friend, it is a Tau’ri saying, it basically means bugging people until they accept the truth or driving someone mad until they open their eyes and see all angles of a situation.” He explained as he imagined someone trying to ‘knock’ some sense into O’Neill. With a tone full of amusement he continued. “Just hitting someone over and over again would not ‘enlighten’ them.” He stated with a grin as Louis chuckled in his head. “Besides on Earth it would be impossible. The people who need sense ‘knocked’ into them are their leaders and hitting one of them would be a crime.”
“I suppose we’ll be hearing a lot more of these Tau’ri sayings?” Garshaw asked.
“Most likely.” Malek replied. With a warm smile and a fond negative shake of her head Garshaw excused herself and left Delek and Malek alone. Malek smirked and turned his attention to Delek. “So Delek do I have to let Louis loose on you or shall you try to be more diplomatic on our visit to the Tau’ri?”
“And what will Louis say that would convince me to play nice?” Delek asked sceptically.
“Hmm… You clearly haven’t learned all that much about my host.” Malek commented. “Another thing you should learn about the Tau’ri is this; they are very stubborn and determined. Once Louis has set his mind on a task or mission he sees it through to the end. Louis will drive you crazy until you agree to behave. Of course if you really don’t want to go I can always take someone else and leave you here with your opinions.”
Delek sighed. “I’ll go and I’ll play nice but don’t expect me to like it.”
-No I don’t expect you to like it.- Malek thought inwardly as he smiled at the Tok’Ra. “Good, good. Now please go and find Ocker and inform him that we’ll be leaving in a few days.”
“And what will you be doing?”
“Louis is still unfamiliar to most of the base so I’m going to allow him to explore for the next few hours.” Malek answered. “See you later.”
I thought you were going to try and be nice. Louis commented as Malek strode from his office.
-I was nice.-
Not nice enough, Delek knows something is up, you were short with him by the end of it. What upset you?
Malek sighed. –It was nothing. I just didn’t like how opinionated and arrogant Delek was being, it reminded me of…it bought back an uncomfortable memory that I’d prefer not to recall.-
Are you ever going to show me what happened between you two? Louis asked with a sigh. Shouldn’t I have the right to know? After all you know every sordid detail of my life.
-I know, beloved, I know I should show you everything but this wound that Delek has inflicted is too recent and too painful for me to relive at this time. Please allow me to ignore it for a little while longer until I’m ready to face it.-
Louis sighed again. I suppose if that’s what you wish, but sometimes it’s better to face your and get it over and done with. I will not push you but I think you should consider facing your fears now, do not let this dislike for Delek grow into hatred, it would not only destroy you both but it would upset the base and it would upset me.
-You speak wisely.-
I speak from observation. I have seen those random thoughts in your mind, you still care for him and Delek’s expressions clearly state that he loves you still. Then there are the other Tok’Ra, all of them look up to you, even Garshaw looked pleased when you had that friendly conversation. The Tok’Ra want you two to make peace, Delek wants what he once had and you desire him as well.
-You see all this?-
I see a lot more than you seem to do. Louis answered. And I believe taking Delek to the SGC would be a very good decision, Delek and his host will learn about the Tau’ri and the SGC but it would also give you two a chance to patch things up, I just hope you take that chance.
-And what of Feodore?-
You’re not planning to jump Delek are you? Louis asked amused. Right now I just want you to try and rekindle your friendship. If that friendship rekindles…deeper feelings then we shall cross that bridge later. I admit that Delek’s host is not unattractive…
Malek smiled at his host as Louis muttered under his mental breath. –Very well Louis, I shall try to rekindle my friendship with Delek.- Louis was surprised by his easy agreement but the host soon recovered and mentally hugged Malek. –Now what to show you next… I know! The scientists, we need to speak to them anyway so we can have them modulate one of our devices to emit the signal required to contact your SGC. I’m sure they won’t mind explaining their work to you, after all you are my host.-
And once we’re done there, what next?
-Hmm…I could go back to my office and work…- Malek teased as he felt Louis’s distaste. –But I believe we shall go bathe and then relax, perhaps we should seek out Martouf, Lantash, Samantha and Jolinar? I am sure you’d like to hear what they’ve been up to, I know I would like to, Lantash is a joy to talk with he is very passionate about everything he does.-
I would like that.
-Then that is what we should do.- Malek answered as he strode into a large chamber. He felt Louis’s awe as they stared around at all the consoles but his focus was on the Tok’Ra within, he spotted the person he sought and made his way through the room. “Greetings.” Malek stated as he stood before the Tok’Ra he sought.
“Malek! I heard of your return but it is the first time I’ve seen you and your new host!” The host’s face lit up with a huge smile and green eyes glittered with joy. “So this is Louis, what a fine specimen of humanity!” The blonde haired Tok’Ra chuckled amd embraced Malek. “It is good to see you well my friend.” He whispered before releasing Malek. “So what can I do for you?”
He is very…excitable. Louis stated shyly, Malek could sense that his host was embarrassed.
-That’s Vittore for you. His host is a little calmer but not by much. Vittore and Celestino are trouble-makers and pranksters but their good at their jobs.- Malek explained fondly. “I plan to visit my host’s people but there is a slight problem, the Tau’ri have a barrier that blocks the Chaapa’ai, I need you to design a console that can send a signal through the gate. The Tau’ri only ever open the gate when they know who is coming through so I need to relay a message to them informing them that it is I and my host Louis that seeks to enter the SGC.”
“Hmm…You must tell me more about this barrier.” Vittore answered. “I would very much like to learn about the concept, especially if we can use it to secure our base worlds. But for now let’s focus on this signal you need. I suppose you need to record your host’s voice and send it through the gate. I believe I could modify a small hand held device or crystal to transmit a signal but…” The Tok’Ra muttered to himself as he wandered around the console he was working at and began pulling crystals and pads out of who knows where. “…needs to be similar to a Goa’uld hand-held device but encrypted so it can’t be tracked…” Vittore murmured before glancing up and meeting Malek’s amused gaze, green eyes widened as if just remembering Malek was there. “Give me two days to design and improve a device, if I can I will modify one of the pads to transmit a signal but if I cannot I will work with the loose crystals I have laying around and design a device.”
“Thank you.” Malek answered but Vittore just waved him away.
Wow. Louis murmured.
-Eccentric isn’t he?- Malek asked amused. –Vittore is one of the more… ‘chilled’ out symbiotes.-
I can well believe that. Louis answered just as amused. Can he do it? Can he create a device that can contact my people?
-Trust me when I say that Vittore can do anything, when Celestino and Vittore are a lot like the Tau’ri, once they’ve made a decision they see it through to the end. Vittore will have something for us in two days-time, this I promise.- Malek smiled. –Now I did say we would seek out Martouf and Samantha.-
Yes you did. Louis agreed. I wonder how Samantha is getting on?
-I’m sure she’s fine, Jolinar will not allow any harm to come to her, neither will Martouf or Lantash. Samantha is well protected by her mates, Jolinar and the Tok’Ra.- Malek assured.
My God! Are they that horny! Louis exclaimed as he heard sounds of pleasure coming from the private chambers of their fellow Tok’Ra. They do know its daytime, don’t they? They do know people are up and about and in hearing range?
Malek chuckled. –My beloved Louis, there is no specific time for mating. Many Tok’Ra are often away for long periods of time, sometimes they’re gone for years, when they return they do not wait until night to reacquaint themselves with their loved ones. Besides we Tok’Ra hide nothing from each other.-
I can see that. Louis answered sarcastically. Malek felt his host ‘heat up’ in a mental blush and he smirked as he realised the cause. Did I just see someone’s ass? Seriously what is it with this ‘no door’ policy of yours! You are all crazy! I bet your all voyeurs…
-I must admit I like the show just as much as I like participating.- Malek replied with a smirk, Louis spluttered inside his mind and ‘glared’ at Malek.
“Have you guys ever heard of modesty?”
-Well there is Samantha.” Malek commented amused.
“The Tok’Ra hide nothing from each other.” Martouf’s voice replied.
“Well that is the Tau’ri way.” Samantha retorted. “And you better find something to block that doorway or you and I are never going to have sex again!” She hissed. Martouf made a startled sound. “I don’t care how much you, Jolinar and Lantash beg I will not have sex when anyone could walk in and see us!”
“Samantha…” Martouf pleaded weakly.
“Greetings.” Malek stated with a smile as he entered their private chambers. “Samantha surely you have seen from Jolinar’s memories that we hide nothing.” With a teasing smirk he looked her up and down and gave her a wink. “And I must confess that if given the chance I would gladly watch you and Martouf mate, I am sure it would be absolutely beautiful.”
Malek! Louis hissed. Give me control! Malek chuckled as he released control to his host, Louis shifted uncomfortably under Samantha’s harsh stare. “Don’t mind Malek.” He told her. “He should know that we ‘Tau’ri’ have different views on privacy. Malek is just a horny little symbiote.” Malek laughed and curled around his host’s spine. Pervert.
Samantha calmed somewhat and returned her attention to Martouf. “Put some curtains up or something otherwise no sex!” Martouf’s eyes widened before his head bowed and Lantash came to the fore. “And no I will not be persuaded Lantash so don’t even try!”
“It’s best just to do as she says.” Malek answered as he retook control. His smirk made Samantha and Lantash give him a wary glance. “Why not pin the bed sheets to the doorway? After all it is not like you will be using them and I hear sharing body heat is far more satisfying.” Malek laughed as he had to duck a thrown object.
“Malek! I didn’t know you had it in you!” Lantash exclaimed in amusement. “To think you’ve been hiding this ‘kinky’ side of you, we would have had so much fun…” Martouf’s hand had rose up to touch Louis’s cheek as the two symbiotes shared a deeply caring look.
“Excuse me?” Samantha asked as she stared at them incredulously.
Malek smiled reassuringly at her. “Do not worry Samantha, Lantash does not… ‘swing’ that way. Before Jolinar came Lantash and I shared a ‘friendship with benefits’ whilst I was within Misha, our relationship was not serious but we were deeply fond of each other. When I mated with Delek, Lantash mated with Jolinar and now that I am male our relationship will once again be ‘friends’ and nothing more.”
Samantha nodded slowly, Lantash smiled before speaking. “Malek is correct, we still care for each other but whilst Malek would happily take a male mate I am more inclined towards the female gender. I also want you to know that even if Malek was to take a female host you’d always come first, Malek is a good friend and a wonderful brother but you, you are my mate.”
“Do not feel threatened by me Samantha, I will never try to interfere nor am I interested. Don’t you remember Feodore?” Malek asked earning Samantha’s laugh. “So why would I seek love when I already have it?”
“Feodore?” Lantash asked.
“My mate.” Malek answered simply.
“Delek won’t like that.” Lantash murmured.
“Why should I care? He has no business interfering with my private life.” Malek replied firmly. “And I’d appreciate if you’d keep that information quiet for now. I have no doubt Delek will learn of it eventually but I’d rather have some peace and quiet for the time being.”
“I don’t like it…” Lantash commented. “But I won’t say a word.”
“Thank you.” Malek replied quietly giving Lantash a thankful look.
“Wait…you were…with Delek?” Samantha asked confused, her look of confusion turned to one of understanding before turning back into confusion. “Why aren’t you with him now?”
“He upset me and betrayed me. He slandered my name to the council whilst I was not there to defend myself, I have not forgiven him for his treachery.” Malek stated simply.
“Jolinar showed me but she says Delek’s argument was valid.”
“She did not know what he did before.” Malek hissed. “And she should know that Delek is a manipulative little…” Malek paused and took a deep breath. “I will not speak of this now.” He stated firmly. “I came here to see how you’re getting on Samantha. I understand that being in a new environment without a familiar face.”
“I’ve been alright.” Samantha stated softly. “How is Louis?”
“He is fitting in perfectly!” Malek stated fondly, his dark mood quickly vanished as he spoke about his host and felt Louis ‘stroke’ his mind affectionately. “Though he is still a little put out about how much work I actually do here but in all honesty I haven’t done as much work as I’d normally do. Once I am officially on duty my work load will triple.”
I’m not looking forward to that. Louis muttered. And you didn’t tell me it would triple.
-Would you have believed me?- Malek asked.
Probably not, but what work is it?
-Well anything about my base needs my permission. For example a Tok’Ra transferring to my base needs my permission to be on my base. Supplies also need my permission to be bought onto the base or collected. I also need to give my permission for missions. Everything has to go through me and be permitted by me, the only ones able to usurp my authority are the council, but the other council members respect my authority and rarely interfere with my decisions.-
“Have you got some free time?” Lantash asked.
“Yes unfortunately.” Malek answered. “Most of my work load is being managed by Ocker and Delek and Per’sus has me spending most of my time relaxing.” Malek’s tone indicated what he thought of that. “Louis is rather pleased by this turn of events but I would really just like to get back to work.”
Lantash chuckled. “I do not believe that to be wise.” He told Malek. “You get started on work and never quit. Your host needs time to adjust to his new life and you really need to relax. I mean how much time have you earned for a vacation?”
“Quite a lot.” Malek admitted. “I could probably take a years’ vacation and no one would complain.”
“Well then, you can take a little while off, can’t you?” Lantash questioned but it was clear from his expression and tone that it was not a question at all. Malek sighed reluctantly and nodded. “Well then, you can join Samantha and I, I promised to take her to some safe-worlds and introduce her to a few of our allies.”
Malek shook his head. “Sorry but no can do. I am heading to Earth in a few days, I’ve been asked to be the Tau’ri ambassador and so I am heading to Earth to inform them that I am their new representative.”
“Does that mean they’ve given the alliance between Earth and the Tok’Ra a chance?” Samantha asked hopefully.
“Not officially, no.” Malek answered. “The council have yet to call a meeting to make the final decision but the majority believe that the alliance deserves a chance.” He explained. “I believe they’ve anointed a Tau’ri ambassador so that I can speak for the Tau’ri in the meeting. I hope that I can persuade them all to permit the alliance officially, the Tok’Ra and Tau’ri can benefit each other and I believe we need each other.”
“Let’s hope the council agree with you.” Samantha commented.
“Louis agrees.” Malek answered. “But I won’t be happy speaking for the Tau’ri until they agree that I am who they want to represent them. Jolinar is another potential ambassador so if they dislike me then Jolinar will be asked next.” Malek explained. “I doubt anyone will protest since I have a Tau’ri host and Louis and I are well liked but until they agree to my representing them I won’t be happy.”
“Don’t worry.” Samantha replied. “They’ll like you, besides Jolinar is not suited for politics but you are.” She added. “Besides you are well liked and skilled with words, if anyone can convince the council it is you.”
“Thank you for the compliment.” Malek replied.
“It is not a compliment, it is fact.” She replied firmly.
“Who told you that you’re an ambassador?” Lantash asked curiously.
“Garshaw did, she’s staying for a few days to overlook the first results to the protocols I have introduced here.” Malek answered. “Hopefully the preliminary reports will satisfy the council and prove that these new protocols will be good for us.”
“You haven’t seen them?” Lantash asked confused.
“Yes I’ve seen them.” Malek replied. “They are good results so far, the healers have done their utmost to familiarise themselves with each individual Tok’Ra and the reports are quite promising from my perspective, but I can only hope the council agree.”
“I’m sure they will.” Lantash assured. “They will not turn down something that could prevent a Goa’uld invading our bases.”
“I am sure many would agree.” Malek answered. “The majority of Tok’Ra would be happy to introduce these new rules but there are a few who would protest.”
“It is to be expected, it does not matter what is said, some will be ‘for’ and some will be ‘against’.” Jolinar stated as she took control of Samantha. “You will always have some against you whether you like it or not. I am surprised Delek is not protesting.”
“He was earlier but I argued with him and managed to get him to agree to accompany me to Earth.” Malek answered. “Hopefully he will be on his best behaviour but I suspect that Delek will find a way to voice his displeasure.”
“Most likely.” Lantash agreed.
“Fancy accompanying me to the mess-hall?” Malek asked a few moments later.
“Sure Samantha and I are somewhat hungry.” Jolinar replied.
“I’ll join you.” Lantash agreed readily.
Malek smiled and led them from Lantash’s quarters. Several Tok’Ra greeted them warmly as they passed but Malek was more focused on Louis who was mumbling in annoyance as he once again heard the sounds of two or more mates reuniting. The three friends remained quiet until they were out of the private area. “Louis is rather uncomfortable with the sounds of mating.” He told Lantash and Jolinar with a smile, they both chuckled.
“Yes, the Tau’ri believe having sex with people aware that they’re having sex is an uncomfortable thing. There are many things that are…taboo.” Jolinar replied.
“We are aware.” Lantash said dryly as he was once again reminded that Samantha would not mate with them until they put something up to cover the doorway. “Samantha has told and shown us much about the Tau’ri and their beliefs. I think both Louis and Samantha will teach us much more as time goes by.”
“Lantash, I have been in Louis for some years now and Louis always manages to surprise me. I guarantee that all their lives Samantha and Louis will continue to surprise us.” Malek replied fondly. “The Tau’ri will be good for us and we’ll be good for the Tau’ri.”
That we will because we won’t take crap from your kin! Louis exclaimed. And if I can deal with Delek I’ll take on all the stubborn symbiotes!
-That you would.- Malek agreed with a smile. –So how about you try and convince Lantash of the benefits of a door curtain.-
My pleasure. Louis stated. Malek happily handed over control to Louis and secretively chuckled at Louis’s over-confidence, the Tau’ri had no idea how stubborn Lantash could be. As Louis planned and schemed Malek relaxed against his hosts’ spine and began to doze. “So why don’t you want a door curtain?” Louis asked.
“The Tok’Ra hide nothing.” Lantash returned.
“Hmm? Is that so.” Louis was feeling particularly smug so Malek listened in half-heartedly. “So you like someone like Delek strolling in a staring at Samantha’s beautiful skin with lustful eyes.” Lantash’s steps faltered and Louis inwardly smirked. “Of course I am sure several Tok’Ra would appreciate the show, seeing such a beautiful angelic woman pinned beneath your powerful lithe form would surely arouse many. I have no doubt that a crowd would gather just to watch.”
“I…” Lantash did not know what to say, a glance beside Lantash revealed a snickering Jolinar. “I’ll get the curtain.” He finally stated reluctantly as he gave Louis a glare.
See! Easy as pie! Louis boasted to Malek. Malek chuckled sleepily and relaxed against his hosts’ spine. Get some sleep Malek, I’ll be fine. Malek hummed in agreement.
--
Malek. Malek.
“Commander Malek.”
Malek woke slowly and groaned in quiet complaint before searching his hosts’ memories and noticing who was waiting for him. Ocker stood before him with a gentle smile upon his host’s dark face. –I don’t think I’ve missed anything.- Malek told his host as he quickly reviewed his host’s memories again.
You haven’t missed a thing but Ocker does want to speak to you. Louis answered.
Malek took control and nodded politely to Ocker. “Hello, my friend. Has Delek informed you of my plans?”
“Yes and he has also informed me of your new promotion.” Ocker replied warmly. “Congratulations, I don’t think they could’ve chosen anyone better.”
“Thank you.” Malek replied fondly. “Do you agree to accompany me to the Tau’ri homeworld?” He asked.
“Of course.” Ocker agreed readily. “Besides as your right hand man, body guard and closest friend it is my duty to stay by your side.” He explained. “And of course you’ll need someone to document the meeting and to act as a witness.”
“Yes of course, I knew you’d be more prepared.”
“What I want to know is why you’re taking Delek?” Ocker asked confused. “You know he is against Tok’Ra-Tau’ri relations.”
“I’m hoping that Delek will at least learn to respect the Tau’ri but I’m not expecting much.” Malek stated. “Besides having another council member as a witness will strengthen my case.”
“But he could also use what he learns against you.” Ocker warned. “We will both have to watch him.” Malek merely nodded in agreement. “But I trust your instinct, if you think Delek will be of use to us then let him come.”
“He’s been…nice so far and I’m hoping his change in attitude remains, I suppose I’m testing him to see if he’ll show some respect to the Tau’ri when we visit them.” Malek confessed.
“And if he does not?”
-It would mean I cannot trust him again.- Malek thought silently before saying. “…I’m not sure just yet.” Ocker stared for a few moments before nodding and saying no more on the subject. “I’ve asked Vittore and his host to create a communication device so we can contact the Tau’ri, they have a barrier known as an iris protecting the gate, if we don’t get them to open it then we will not come out the otherside.” Ocker looked a little uncomfortable by the idea. “Vittore tells me it will take at least two days to design the device meaning I have two days to make sure Delek is up for the journey, if he is not then I may have to insist that Jolinar accompanies me.”
“How are you going to find out?” Ocker asked curiously. “He could just as easily lie to you.”
“I…I don’t know…” Malek confessed. “But I have to try and find a way.”
“I’ll help you in any way I can.” Ocker stated softly as a dark hand laid over Louis’s shoulder.
“What are you two doing over there?” Samantha stated as she finally noticed the two solemn Tok’Ra sitting in the corner of the cafeteria.
“Well from what my host tells me you and Lantash got a little too friendly and had to go away for a few private moments.” Malek teased with a smile. “Hmm? You two just can’t seem to keep your hands off each other, it is very amusing.” Samantha blushed. “We’ll be over in a moment Samantha, Ocker and I are just having a chat.”
“Okay.”
“You’ve changed somewhat. You’re more open with your feelings.” Ocker commented with an amused smile as they watched Samantha returned to the cafeteria table that Lantash and Jolinar had claimed after returning from their little tryst.
“Is that a bad thing?” Malek asked with a smirk.
Ocker chuckled. “Not at all it is just somewhat surprising, we’re all so used to the ‘so-busy-no-time-for-fun’ Malek but this is a really good change.” He stated in clear amusement.
“Commander! Commander!” Malek and Ocker glanced up and frowned as a Tok’Ra guard skid to a halt before them. “Healer Ari was attacked. She was conducting the usual tests when the Tok’Ra she was examining just stood and broke her wrist, he would have done more but we managed to pull him off before he could seriously harm her.”
“Who was it?” Malek demanded.
“Cecilio.” The scout replied. “But we now fear that Cecilio is either a traitor, brain-washed or that the real Cecilio is dead and this one is an imposter. They have been taken to the holding cells but they have put up a good fight and several guards are injured as well as Healer Ari. Healer Ari has requested your presence, Councillor Delek is already there dealing with the aftermath.”
Malek nodded. “Good job, now head back and watch the prisoner, I will see to him once I’ve made sure that no-one was seriously hurt.” He informed the guard. “Ocker.”
“I am by your side.” His bodyguard stated as they both rose and raced from the cafeteria, they heard the mumbling of concerned Tok’Ra but paid them no heed. “Let us hope this is the final traitor in our midst.” Ocker stated as they ran. “I could not bear the thought of there being more.”
“We do not know that he is a traitor.” Malek replied. “We must pray that Cecilio has been brain-washed for I could not bear the thought of him doing this willing nor can I bear the thought that he is dead.” Malek shuddered within Louis’s body and Louis silently reassured him that eventually all would be well. “We must hope that no-body was seriously harmed.”
I am sure what you find will surprise you. Louis commented quietly. Perhaps this…Cecilio attacked because he felt threatened by Healer Ari, perhaps one of Healer Ari’s assistants are not all they seem and have plans of their own? We cannot know the truth until we see the situation for ourselves. Perhaps it was all a misunderstanding? Louis rifled around in Malek’s memories. Or perhaps Cecilio is an operative who’s just returned after being tortured by a Goa’uld? If I understand correctly the use of the sarcophagus acts very similar to a drug, the symbiote and host become addicted and when they suffer from withdrawal they can seem to become stronger because they fight to get their ‘fix’ with everything they have.
Malek blinked and thought about his hosts words for a good long moment before mentally nodding. –You are of course correct, how foolish of me to overlook such a simple answer. I must ask the Healers if he is a recently returned Tok’Ra, if he is your theory may indeed prove to be correct.-
Louis chuckled. I am just searching through the information you already possess, I am sure that given time you would have worked it out as well. Of course I can see several different reasons for Cecilio’s actions, the Goa’uld have many drugs and poisons at their disposal but you are correct the most likely causes will be that Cecilio is addicted to the sarcophagus, brainwashed or dead and replaced. I am sure we will soon find out which.
“Commander.” The guards greeted cordially as Malek and Ocker skidded to a halt before them, they parted to allow them both entrance into the healing area.
“Malek. Ocker.” Delek greeted as they both approached him and Ari, Ari sat on one of her own med beds nursing her wrist. “Cecilio is in the holding cell. Two guards got knocked out but are showing signs of regaining consciousness. Ari is injured but she claims to be alright, an assistant has reset the bone and helped begin the healing but Ari will not rest.”
“Because I believe there is something wrong with Cecilio and it is my duty as a healer to get to the bottom of it!” Ari hissed. “Malek, before Cecilio snapped he was absolutely fine, cheerful and fun, I left for a few moments and when I returned he was sweating and clearly distressed, I went to scan him and he grabbed my wrist before demanding I release him from the med-bay, I refused and the guard came to help me, he suddenly became aggressive and then…well you know the rest.”
“That sounds like poisoning, or withdrawal or perhaps even ‘programming’.” Malek stated. “You said you left him alone. Did you notice anyone leaving or entering? One of your assistants or someone else?” Ari shook her head. “Did he hide anything on his person? Did you see him pocket anything or notice an odd bump in his clothing?”
“I’m sorry but I didn’t pay attention to anything like that.” Ari said with a guilty expression. “I suppose I should have been looking for it but…”
“It is understandable Ari, no one blames you.” Malek answered firmly. “So we need to have him searched, let’s hope he hasn’t had time to dispose of anything.”
“You think he poisoned himself.” Delek asked sceptically. “We symbiotes are immune to most poisons.”
“Yes I know but my host gave me second thoughts.” Malek answered. “Louis suggested that the Goa’uld could be experimenting with poisons and drugs that would affect a symbiote. You know as well as I that the Goa’uld would gladly create something like that to harm their enemies, they would not only use it on us but other Goa’uld.”
“Do you really believe the Goa’uld have created a symbiote poison?” Ari asked fearfully.
“I do not believe so.” Malek thought after a few moments consideration. “Had they been experimenting with the poison we would have noticed the signs, the Goa’uld aren’t very good when it comes to stealth and secrecy. I am more inclined to believe sarcophagus poisoning or accidental poisoning from an unknown natural plant, object or rock. I would rather not mention the alternatives.” Silence reigned for a few moments as all the Tok’Ra considered whether Cecilio was a traitor or the symbiote inside Cecilio’s host was a Goa’uld posing as their brother.
“I suggest we interrogate him now whilst he is unstable, he may be more inclined to talk.” Ocker suggested. “If we assume that this is an addiction of some sort we can guarantee his is unstable and uncaring of how he answers our questions.”
“I’d like to be there to give him a medical exam.”
“No, Ari I order you to rest.” Malek stated firmly. “I’ll take one of your assistants with me but you are to remain here and heal.” Ari pouted and looked up at Malek but seeing that Malek would not be swayed she reluctantly agreed. “Delek I need you to take charge of the healing area, keep our kin unaware for now until we know what caused Cecilio’s behaviour.” Delek scowled but nodded. “Ocker find a healer and meet me there, I am going to go and observe our brother and try to ascertain whether he is an imposter or truly our brother.” Malek silently swallowed as all glanced at him with hopeful gazes before turning to do their designated jobs. –I fear they put too much faith in me.-
Do not be silly. Louis chastised. You do not give yourself any credit. You are wise, observant and understanding. If you cannot work out whether Cecilio is himself or an imposter than no one can, this they are sure of and I believe they are right. Do not worry beloved we shall observe this Cecilio together and I will seek your knowledge of him to compare with his new behaviour.
-Thank you Mer Prinekh.- Malek replied fondly. – We shall face this together.-
Always.
“Commander.” A guard greeted as Malek quickly approached the holding cells. “Cecilio has been muttering since he was bought here, he’s been mostly sitting in the corner or pacing about madly. I apologise but I have not heard what he has said but I fear that he has gone insane.”
Malek sighed. “I am going to observe him for a few moments, Ocker and a healer will be here soon, allow them through the moment they arrive.”
“Yes sir.”
When Louis first saw Cecilio he thought the Tok’Ra was pitiful, he was not muttering but letting out breathy whimpers that seemed to be trying to come out as words. Is he in so much pain he can’t speak? Louis asked after a few moments of watching the pathetic show. He looks really sickly. Louis added taking in the lanky, dry black hair that covered dark brown eyes. The host was a black man but he seemed flushed and was extremely sweaty and distressed.
-I fear he’s become addicted to the sarcophagus.- Malek replied after a few moments. –He’s angry at us for being in his way. He feels he is in control or in charge and that we usurping his authority or dominance. I fear his host is trapped within there and his host will also be suffering from the adverse effects of using a sarcophagi…They will need treatment immediately.-
Why did it take so long for the signs to show and why did Cecilio react so aggressively to Ari? Louis asked.
-Perhaps he was put into the sarcophagus before he left. Cecilio is a strong willed Tok’Ra it was more than likely that he believed he could cope until his next ‘fix’ but then he realised Ari could detect signs of him using the Sarcophagus and he reacted in a panic.- Malek thought. –This state of depression could be a panic attack induced by the fact he’d been discovered and therefore will not be able to return to the Goa’uld or sarcophagus.-
What do we do?
-Right now he needs to calm down and he is in the best place for it. This cell will keep him from getting his ‘fix’ and it will also keep him contained until he has become…saner.-
And the pain?
-He could have been tortured by the Goa’uld, but the sarcophagus would have healed him…- Malek hummed thoughtfully. –Sometimes when an addiction gets out of hand it can cause pain, your body tells you that you are in pain and you need to get your next ‘fix’ to be okay. I believe that is what Cecilio and his host are experiencing. He believes the only way to end the pain is to go back to the sarcophagus and if he’s still Tok’Ra he will believe the only way to save his host is to put his host back in the sarcophagus.-
How do you know this?
-I…- Malek hesitated before sighing. –I was once addicted to the sarcophagus. I was tortured by Apophis and he found much amusement by killing me and then reviving me. I do not know how long this went on but I eventually became dependent of the sarcophagus. Eventually I made it home but I was also addicted to the sarcophagi. My host was suffering and I would not allow him control. At first I was normal but Delek began to notice the changes. I became short tempered, aggressive and sometimes emotionally unstable. Delek spoke of his fears to the others and I was tricked into a holding cell. The Healers quickly discovered that I was addicted to the sarcophagi and that realisation made something within me snap. I became aggressive and demanding, I tried to use my authority to have them release me so I could return to the blasted device.- Malek sighed again. –If it had not been for Delek, Ocker, Per’sus, Jolinar, Lantash and Healer Ari I may well be a Goa’uld or dead today. They never left my side, I was always watched and they always spoke to me and took care of me even though I was evil to them. I owe them my life.-
I’m sorry.
-Do not be, it is not your fault.- Malek answered simply. –It was Apophis’s fault. But I can’t help but feel a little bit of sympathy for Cecilio.-
I understand. Louis replied softly. He needs help just like you did and we’re going to help him. Louis paused and Malek felt his host ‘twitch’ with nervousness. Is…Is that why they looked at you so hopefully, because they knew you’d recognise the signs of sarcophagus addiction?
-Possibly.-
“…Need…Hurts…”
Malek slowly revealed himself to the agitated Tok’Ra and kneeled down so their faces were level, the only thing separating them was a metre space and a barrier. “Cecilio, do you remember who I am?”
“Malek…Commander…You’ll understand. Amidio is in pain…need to heal…need sarcophagi…makes us…better.”
He’s deranged.
-He’s desperate and in pain.- Malek corrected. “Cecilio did you know what happened?”
“Tortured, forced into sarcophagus.”
“And do you remember what the sarcophagus does?”
“Yes but…need…” Cecilio’s desperate expression changed to one of anger and he charged the barrier, Malek watched sympathetically as the Tok’Ra was thrown back. “No one…helps…”
“That’s where you’re wrong. We will help but we cannot allow you to go back.” Malek answered softly.
“No! Need to go back!” Cecilio protested as he stood and paced the small area. “It will make us…better.”
“No it won’t.” Malek answered. “It will only make it worse.” Malek cautiously sat. “Cecilio, the sarcophagus was killing your host, it is killing you host. You must be strong brother. You must resist the urge to return.” Cecilio stared at him seriously for a few moments before his eyes glazed over and he stared at the wall.
“Malek?” Ocker asked as they arrived.
Malek sighed and met Ocker’s gaze with a sad expression. “Sarcophagus addiction and a serious case by the looks of it.” He told his friend. “Fortunately Cecilio is still thinking of his host so I do not believe he is too far gone but healing him will be…difficult.” Ocker laid a hand on his shoulder but said nothing in return.
A woman approached the barrier and observed Cecilio before turning green eyes onto Malek and Ocker. Malek took in her appearance and blinked as Louis snickered in his head. The woman had a pale hand on one hip and the other was holding a small pad. She looks so ‘fiery’ I think she’s going to bonk you on the head! Louis exclaimed with a laugh. Malek had to agree with his host, she did indeed look ‘fiery’ with bright red hair and a gaze that promised pain.
“I will need your aid.” The healer stated as she approached the barrier, her voice clearly stated that no was not an acceptable answer. “I need you to hold him down so I can scan him.”
“That could have an adverse effect.” Malek warned.
The healer gave him a hard stare. “I am aware, Malek but unfortunately I need to scan him to work out how to heal him.” Ocker snickered as the Healer continued to glare. “Are you a healer or am I?” She asked after a few moments.
“You are the healer.” Malek conceded.
“And as the healer who is in charge of the patients?”
“You are.”
“And if I demand that a patient be contained so I can scan him what is the correct response?” Her voice was deceptively peaceful and calm but her stare was hard and demanding.
“Er… Yes ma’am?” Malek answered.
“Correct.” The woman replied. “Now lower the barrier and secure our brother!”
Best do what she says. Louis told Malek with a smirk. If she’s anything like Janet she will kick your ass before she allows you to interfere with her duty.
Ocker and Malek shared a look before Malek nodded to the amused guards. The barrier went down and Malek and Ocker quickly moved in and pinned Cecilio to the floor. It helped that Cecilio was pretty much out of it and Malek wondered if he even knew what was going on. The healer worked quickly and soon she was indicating to them that she wanted Cecilio released. Ocker and Malek let out a sigh of relief as Cecilio sat up but did not show any signs of distress.
“Thank you, gentlemen.” The healer stated before returning her attention to the pad before her. “He is indeed showing signs of dependency on the sarcophagus. In fact he seems to be displaying severe withdrawal symptoms.” She muttered. “How did you know?” She asked as she turned to look at them both.
Ocker shifted uncomfortably as he wondered whether he should speak about Malek’s experiences but Malek took the decision from his hands. “I was once addicted to the sarcophagus so I should recognise the signs but it was my host that actually worked it out and reminded me of my experience.” Malek explained. “I was still sceptical until I arrived and observed him.”
The healer had the decency to look embarrassed and guilty. “I…I apologise for my earlier behaviour, I did not know. If I had known I would have asked you to leave rather than remind you of your own experiences. Why did you not say something?”
“Because the past is the past and whilst the past makes me who I am it does not rule me. I do not fear the signs of sarcophagi addiction and if I can help someone else with my experiences then I shall.” He told her firmly.
“You are indeed a wise and wonderful symbiote.” The healer stated softly. “Forgive me for my rudeness I am Cosima and my host is Abelie. We transferred from Garshaw’s base a few months ago just before your return.”
“Greetings Cosima, Abelie, it is an honour to have you on my base.” Malek replied politely. He smiled at her. “Hopefully together we can healer Cecilio and his host.”
“Not hopefully.” Cosima stated. “We will heal him and his host.” The look of determination she had on her face was inspiring and Malek decided right then and there that he liked this head strong Tok’Ra. “Don’t worry Malek, Cecilio will be returned to us, I have yet to fail.” She gave him a confident grin and turned to leave but paused at the doorway. “For now I’ll have the guards help me administer some calming drugs, that should keep him from doing himself and his host any harm. When he’s calm enough I’ll have one of your new ‘mind-healers’ accompany me and we’ll talk. I may call you and several others to spend time with him.”
“Of course, I’ll do anything to help.” Malek assured.
Cosima turned and stared at Cecilio. “Unfortunately most of the healing has to be done by him and his host. We’ll spend much of our time trying to reach him and remind him of who he is. I’ll keep you up to date, but for now there is nothing you can do as I’ll be having him sedated and it is most likely that he’ll be sleeping for the first couple of days. Hopefully a couple of nights sleep will help him regain his sanity.”
Malek? Louis asked once Cosima had left. If you owe Delek your life why are you sometimes so cold to him?
-He…- Malek sighed. –He went against the very nature of the Tok’Ra, he behaved like a Goa’uld. He harmed many people and tried to destroy my reputation to get his own way. He turned from a loving mate to a cold and calculating parasite.-
What happened?
-I…I’d rather not talk about it.- Malek stated firmly.
It can’t have been that bad.
-It was. It was the day I realised that Delek was a monster.- Malek stated. –It was the day I realised that Delek would do anything for power, even if it meant hurting the one he supposedly loved. I do not want to remember that day and yet it plays through my mind over and over again. Please do not try and make me talk about it, it is something I want to forget for as long as I can.-
If you keep bottling it up eventually it is going to explode and make it all worse. Isn’t it better to face it now rather than later? The memories are haunting you, hurting you. You need to sort them out, you need to make peace with Delek. At least talk to him and ask him why he did whatever it was he did.
-I’ll think about it.-
No do it! You can’t keep living like this Malek. You care for him, he cares for you yet you keep hurting him because of something he did in the past! I’m not saying to forgive or forget but you need to try and get over this, all this anxiety and stress is not good for you, you need to make peace with him.
-I don’t think it’s as easy as that.-
Yes it is, you’re just making it hard for yourself. Talk to him!
-Louis.-
No Malek, you shouldn’t live your life hating him. He’s your brother and most importantly he is your ally. Please Malek at least try to talk to him. In a life like the one you share with Delek and your kin anyone could die at any time, do you really want to die hating him and do you want Delek to die knowing you hate him? Please Malek, talk to him.
“I heard what happened.” Delek’s voice was unwelcome to Malek but his expression was a welcoming one. “Are you okay?” Delek’s hand rose but he paused and looked quite nervous, instead of putting his hand on Malek’s shoulder he let it drop and sighed. “How is Cecilio?”
“Suffering.” Malek replied bluntly. “Healer Cosima has ordered that he be sedated and watched over for the first few days, the actually healing will begin when she thinks he is more…saner.” Delek nodded with a distant look on his face, no doubt he was recalling the time when Malek was the one behind the barrier.
“How are you?” Malek knew Delek meant how was he coping with a reminder of how he was when he was addicted to the sarcophagus. “I’m sorry I didn’t recognise the signs myself, the last thing I’d have wanted was for you to be reminded of…that.”
“I’m fine.” Malek answered.
Delek gave him a hard look. “No one would blame you if you fell apart.”
Malek met Delek’s look with a glare. “I am fine.” He stated firmly.
Malek. Behave yourself. Louis warned.
With a sigh Malek calmed. “It does remind me of what’s happened but I am not afraid to face the past.” Delek made a small sound of disbelief. Malek mentally scowled but outwardly he pretended not to hear Delek’s scepticism. “Be prepared to leave base in a few days.” Malek said instead. “Once everything is prepared I intend to leave for the Tau’ri homeworld.”
“I will be ready.” Malek snorted this time before turning and leaving the holding cells and Delek behind.
Malek, please try.
-I’ll think about it.-
No don’t think about it, do it! If you think about it you’ll find reasons not to do it! You’ve got to end this Malek, I’m not asking you to forgive but this hatred between you, it has to stop. Please Malek, just talk to him.
-I can’t, not yet.-
Then let me.
-No.-
Malek.
-Louis please, not now.-
Louis glared. You forget I am a Tau’ri, we are stubborn. We will be talking about this again and if you don’t try and sort it out I’ll just have to try for myself.
-Louis!-
Malek. Louis replied. I’m trying to help you.
Malek sighed. –Alright, I’ll talk to him. But not right now, not with everything that’s going on.-
You promise to talk to him?
-I promise.-
Good.
-Now…let’s go have that bath I promised you.-
