Reviews for Carry On My Wayward SonBy : Danyealle |
(Looks around at the emaciated, shaking bunnies surrounding the keyboard and monitor.) I see I have been remiss in leaving a review!
Well done! I must say, you really captured Dean throughout the whole conversation. I especially liked the moment when he realized what he had just agreed to in order to assuage Sam's well-founded fears. Monogamous, homosexual, incestuous relationship - indeed!
I like that Dean finally addressed Sam's binge (bordering on needing that AA membership, he was), and I really liked Sam's responses to all of Dean's prodding.
I'm really interested in where we go from here. Given that Dean feels as though he's being manipulated on some level, I'm very curious.
Thank you for sharing!

without anymore unwelcome dreams - spoilsport! And they're not really that unwelcome... Sam just protests too much!
I found it interesting that Sam corrected Dean on the nickname. Equally interesting is how Dean lapsed thrice after the correction and called him Sammy, each time when he was trying to reassure Sam, or validate his emotions.
I love the descriptions of Dean's excitement - like a boy with his first crush, which - in a way - this is, since it's his first (admitted) desire for a member of the same gender. I also really like the fact that Dean immediately addresses the fact that he would never force his brother, wanting to cement the fact that any physical relationship that would develop between them would be completely mutually consensual.
The messenger-cam-as-sleep-aid works really well here, and I like that Dean wants to continue it. It's a very good way for both of them to observe and to be observed, and maybe for Sam to start coping with his suppressed emotions. I look forward to seeing how this plot device develops.
As an aside, the conversation with Bobby could be quite amusing! Though I'm not sure there's enough liquor in the world to eliminate the mental image for him if Sam were to let him know where he is emotionally. Especially since Bobby's pushing for them to be in close physical proximity to each other. hee hee
I look forward to your next update, as always! Thank you for an excellent read.

I really felt the indecision coming through from Sam, and the relief from Dean in this chapter. Although, I do think Sam is being a spoilsport, not wanting to have those erotic dreams again!
Bobby's statement to Sam, to encourage meeting up with Dean, was rather amusing given that he had no way of knowing exactly why Sam would want to avoid it.
I must say that Sam's statement that Dean was too much of a ladies' man reminded me of the line so far in, he doesn't even realize there is a closet. It made me chuckle. And Sam's realization that Dean fits his description of his perfect partner was beautifully done. I like how I can feel that he's fighting it, the way anyone in his situation might, but that you can see he's recognizing it at the same time.
I loved how Zachariah didn't realize when he was talking to Asmodeus that Castiel's visit to the chapel was after their talk, thinking that he's now straightened Cas out.
And I had never before considered anything angelic to be sinister. I actually shuddered when I read that Zachariah was smiling angelically. That was a wonderfully captured sentiment.
I had wondered when Chuck was going to appear. I love his commentary!
I know, when this piece is finished, it's going to be one that I sit down and read all the way through just for the suspense from one chapter to the next. (Yes, this is me saying that I am eagerly awaiting your next update, but I really, truly mean this!)
As always, thank you for sharing this!

...must...leave...review....
I know you don't think Cas is quite right, but after reading it a couple times, I think for the moment in his development that this is, his voice fits his character. He is at that moment where, like in City of Angels, he is learning that angels are God's creations as well and have been given just as much free will as humans have. Point being, I think his burgeoning self-awareness is coming through. That being inherently awkward, it also makes for much awkwardness.
For example, I think you captured his hesitance well where you've got him questioning the decision of drawing Sam back onto the field. Questioning Dean being left in the dark. Questioning not protecting the site of the last seal.
I like how he puts Zachariah off with saying that he is only questioning in order to be able to convince Dean. And on some level, he may even believe that - at this point. He's not yet fully 'awakened.'
I like how you emphasize several times how powerful the side of "good" is perceived. It makes me wonder what reaction we will witness when they realize that "good" is a relative term. Even though Dean and Bobby don't use that term (I don't think), they mention that they think that the angels are more powerful than demons. Bobby starts to light on the perception with the statement about the tactics that might employed to persuade one to their side...
I really liked Dean's slowly drawn conclusion. I could really see the wheels turning there for him as the pieces gently fell into place and as that last cog was fitted into the machine... bam! That was a beautiful moment.
I thought Bobby came through very well in this chapter also. I'm very grateful to you for the inclusion of all the other characters of the show as well. It has made this story riveting.
Now, hypnotoad has given a new directive:
Wait patiently for update.
