Reviews for Carry On My Wayward SonBy : Danyealle |
Gah! Drama!
Seriously, I relished the communication in this chapter. I liked the way Dean resolved to tell Sam the truth - no matter what the consequences were.
You captured the emotions well, especially at the beginning of the conversation, when Sam is torn between mortification and anger. How he's trying to deny what he's being told, yet not able to accomplish it, then finally has to - at least to some point - accept what he's being told is conveyed very well.
I absolutely loved 'How was I supposed to know my baby brother was an exhibitionist?'! That line had me rolling!
Dean's confession that he is borderline obsessed with thoughts of Sam (and to the reader that he will act on his desires given the opportunity) is very well done. The moment when Sam asked that, I could picture both characters in front of their computer screens taking a deep breath; one in dreaded anticipation and the other with a sort of melancholy.
I like the way that you're exploring this, and not having Sam simply accept the change in Dean's feelings towards him and jump at the chance to be intimately involved with his sibling. I like that Sam admits that he had the same yearnings for his brother earlier on in their lives, but that he moved past it once he became interested in others.
I eagerly await the next chapter; I am most thoroughly enjoying this tale!

So I told you I'd review when the site was back up - and you even posted a new chappie before I got to it! Without further ado, some fangirl gushing for you.
I have to tell you that I really felt Dean's building panic - and resignation - in the first chapter when he realized Sam was gone. The way you built that scene alone was beautiful. The flow of emotions - the way you told it - was (not to gush too much) spellbinding. When you continued on to Sam realizing he shouldn't check the voicemails because he knows himself well enough to know that he would turn back to comfort his brother... Suffice to say that I truly felt that you captured both characters in that chapter.
The scene in Bobby's kitchen - Castiel's nonchalance in letting Dean know whom Bobby had on the phone? That was also wonderfully constructed.
The beginning of their emotional bonding in chapter three is well-played. I like that Sam starts planting seeds of doubt for Dean in regards to Castiel, and your allusion to a more evil entity than Ruby being Sam's ... "liason" if Ruby is eliminated? I really liked the introduction that you're giving.
Now, I freely admit to having missed the bit about the binding spell the first time I read it. I had to go back after you mentioned that and re-read. I'm interested in seeing that build to fruition.
I love Dean's naivety in regards to the computer and chat rooms and the like. That he didn't understand how suggestive his handle was made for some hilarious imagery.
And the introduction of Sam's "secret"? You've set this up very well.
Dean's naivety in not realizing it was Sam doing the research until he was told - and the fact that he didn't even cotton on right away after being told - hilarious!
I liked your take on the eye colors. I realize it wasn't something touched on in the show, but it does explain a great deal, the way you've set it up.
The confrontation between Castiel and Dean was very well done. I liked the way Castiel was taken off-guard and was unable to hide his reaction completely from Dean. That he actually lost his stoic attitude was beautifully done.
Dean's confession: I like that you're taking this in parts; rushing it could definitely scare Sam off and I know that's not what he's trying to accomplish. I like that he even manages to get to apologize to Sam for "shoving all those damn women" at him. And how he works in the question of what kind of guys Sam likes is priceless.
And now for chapter seven:
The segue into moving Dean out of the fray is subtle; it's obvious Bobby's not going to ask Sam to return, but he knows he has to get Dean and Sam back together. And with Dean's behavior causing Sam to almost (practically) shut him out again (which seems it might be what Dean wants to happen because apparently he's feeling very guilty), I'm very curious as to what has transpired. Bobby alludes to an interlude with Anna...
You had me rolling with damn feathered demons!
I do wonder at the repercussions Sam will suffer when Dean finds out that he's being maneuvered again...
Okay, I love the way you ended that chapter! I'm fully picturing Sam's face going red then white as the scene fades to black...
I love it, hon. I love the way you build into things and don't just hit me with them. Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm eagerly awaiting your next update (though we all know RL comes first. I'll just watch the little message on my IM window that you update when you post a new chappie!)
