I liked the sexual tension between Chakotay and Kathryn at the beginning of the story. Their encounter, both that night and the next morning was well rendered.
But as to the resolution itself... While I understand that you're not wanting to write a novel-length piece, I have to admit that I expected a bit more story before they simply resolved the issue they were having with regards to Kathryn's fear. The spirit guides seemed to be a sort of deus-ex-machina in that there was no questioning of their observations, and the decision was immediately made. While never indecisive, I never perceived Kathryn as making life-changing decisions that she had reservations about in such a manner.
