Author’s
Notes:
1.
This is my own vision of where I would like the show to go. Somehow, I doubt
that the producers and writers of the show share my vision.
2.
This is a setup piece that will help readers to understand the role Sheppard
plays in regards to the Wraith and to the protection of Atlantis.
3. There
will be future stories with non-con sexual relations between Sheppard and the
Wraith in the near future. I’m just trying to let the show run a few more
episodes before I begin abusing Sheppard.
The Wraith was the most feared
beings in the Pegasus Galaxy. Stories of their cruelty to mankind could be
heard in every corner of the galaxy. They fed on humans; much like the legendary
vampires from Earth culture, but instead of taking human blood, they sucked the
life-force out of their victims. They rarely fed quickly; instead they took
their time to enjoy their meals. They loved teasing the poor humans into
submitting to their will, and they often took only small amounts of life-force
from their victims for days on end; thus, causing premature aging and
intolerable amounts of agony for their prisoners.
Every planet in Pegasus dreaded the
day that the “sleeping” Wraith would reappear. There was the occasional
scouting group sent out for food, but the bulk of the Wraith had been in
hibernation for centuries. The Wraith would allow humans to reproduce without
feeding for hundreds of years. This would insure that their food supply would
be constant. They knew that if they fed everyday like they desired the food
supply would be depleted in a short amount of time, so they allowed the humans
to believe that they were safe.
The Wraith had only one real enemy
in their history that served as a threat to them, and that enemy had been wiped
out of existence thousands of years before. The Ancients had been more
technological advanced than any other humans the Wraith had encountered, but
the Ancients had underestimated the strength of their new enemy. For many
years, the Wraith and the Ancients fought; not over ideology, or over land, but
over life. The Wraith was determined to feed upon every Ancient they could get
their hands on. The internal power that the new breed of humans possessed was
intoxicating. The Ancient Power allowed the Wraith to become stronger, to heal
quicker, and to thrive as a civilization.
Once the Wraith exterminated most of
the Ancients, there was no being left to challenge their power. They controlled
all humans with intimidation and cruelty. They left the few Ancients to die in
their underwater city, but they never feared the return of their advanced
enemies. They hibernated in peace for hundreds of years sure that their control
of the galaxy would remain intact. They left a few Wraith watchers and henchmen
to watch over their sleeping masters; never thinking that they would rise
before the end of a millennium, but their sleep was interrupted by the least
expected source. An ancestor of the Ancients had dared to desecrate their
sleeping grounds, and the reawakening Wraith would not rest again until the
cause of their early awakening was made an example to all humans.

Major John Sheppard walked into the
cell that contained the Wraith that his team had captured three days earlier.
He put up a strong brave façade for the prisoner, but truthfully the Wraith
gave him the creeps. He had never been so close to a being that considered him
a snack. The way the prisoner glared at him was intimidating, and he understood
why the Wraith had controlled humans for thousands of years.
“Are you hungry yet?”
“We can live months even years
without eating, but I would welcome a taste of you human.”
“Yeah, I know. I would be the first
person you would eat if you escaped.”
The Wraith looked into the eyes of
Sheppard looking for a hint of nervousness, “You hide your fear well human, but
I can smell it on you. You stink of it.”
“It must be my new soap,” Sheppard
sarcastically commented.
The Wraith looked Sheppard up and
down slowly, “I’ve changed my mind. I won’t eat you first. I’ll save you to last.”
“Why’s that?”
“You would be fun to torture. I
think that I would keep you attached to me with a chain for a few years or so.
Would you like that human?”
The image of Princess Leia attached
to Jabba the Hutt in Return of the Jedi flashed through Sheppard’s mind and a
chill went up his spine, “I’m allergic to metal.”
The Wraith smiled at the human’s
attempt at humor, “I would like that very much. I could have you serve my needs
and my hunger whenever I like. One like yourself could handle a few nibbles
from me without losing your youth. Your beauty could last for years.”
Sheppard tried to swallow down the
dread the threat caused, “Nibbles huh? Would that be like a piece of chocolate
nibble or a whole candy bar?”
The Wraith ignored the comment
unclear of its meaning, “I’ve always enjoyed torturing your kind; especially
the pretty ones like yourself. My kind has a tendency to seek out beauty and
destroy it over long lengths of time. Your less attractive friends will get off
much easier than you.”
“My friends are not less attractive
than me, and who the hell are you to call anyone unattractive? Have you looked
in a mirror lately?”
The Wraith laughed at Sheppard’s
reaction, “I like you boy. You make me laugh, and that is so rare. You should
have left us sleeping Sheppard. What happens to your friends and your precious
planet will be your fault.”
Sheppard wondered if he meant
Atlantis or Earth. He wasn’t sure if the Wraith knew of what Colonel Sumner had
told the female Wraith before he was sucked dry, and he was becoming
increasingly uncomfortable with the present conversation, “Well, it’s been
real, but I’m off to dinner. I would invite you for a bite, but I have a
feeling that you and McKay would fight like cats and dogs over who gets to carve
the Turkey.”
“You have fresh meat on this
planet?”
“No. Well…maybe, but not here in the
city. It was a joke about yours and McKay’s insatiable appetites.”
“Which one is McKay, The strange
speaking one?”
Sheppard ran through the
possibilities, “You mean Dr. Beckett. He has an accent. McKay is the one who
never shuts up.”
The Wraith arched his brows, “Yes,
I’m familiar with that one. He does talk a lot. When I escape, he will be the
first I feed upon.”
Sheppard stared at the Wraith in
understanding. Rodney’s constant babbling got on everyone’s nerves. Why should
an alien life form be any different? “Well, I now know how to torture you if we
ever have to.”
Once again the Wraith laughed, “I
don’t remember the others of your kind being so humorous. They were always so
serious, and they didn’t like to play with us. They always begged for a quick
death. You are not like them in that way. You seem to like playing with your
enemies.”
“Depends on the game I suppose.”
“You do however avoid the truth like
they did.”
“The truth about what?” Sheppard
asked.
“They never acknowledged that we
were superior to them, and you won’t acknowledge that you are a descendent of
theirs.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking
about,” Sheppard lied.
“I’ve felt what you are since the
first time I laid eyes upon you. You are an Ancient. You possess the power they
had; you just don’t know how to use it yet. It is you that the Wraith is
tracking. They are drawn to your strength. They have not had an Ancient in
thousands of years. They will not stop hunting you until they have you in their
possession.”
“I am not an Ancient. I just have
some of their genetic genes.”
“You have all of their genes
Sheppard. The only thing different about you is that you didn’t live as an Ancient.
You have lived as an inferior human all of your life, and you lack the Ancient
mannerisms, and I find that difference quite attractive, as will all of the
Wraith.”
“This conversation is over,”
Sheppard simply responded turning his back on the Wraith.
“Enjoy your freedom while you can
boy. It won’t be long before the others find me, and when they do, I will have
you. I may have to fight every Master Wraith to do it, but I will win you.”
Sheppard didn’t respond to the
threat, but instead hurried out of the room trying to keep his anxiety from
seeping out in front of the prisoner. Once outside in the corridor, he tried to
gather himself. The Wraith knew about him. They were hunting him; not the
others. They had been reawakened by his presence, and it was only a matter of
time before they collected their prize. He hadn’t meant to find the pendent
that had caused the Wraith to attack Teyla’s home world or that tracked her
every move, and he certainly hadn’t planned on killing the female watcher that
caused the other Wraith to awaken from their slumber, but all of those things
had been caused by him. It was his fault that the Wraith were once again
feeding on entire planets in the Pegasus Galaxy, and he knew that it was only a
matter of time before they arrived at Atlantis. He could only hope that the
Ancient Powers that he supposedly possessed would kick in to defend Atlantis
and his friends.
