Part I
Rated: NC-17
This can’t be right, she just wouldn’t vanish off the face of the earth without telling me, or would she? Carter thought as he sat in the lounge having yet another cup of coffee, she can’t be gone she just can’t, besides what will I do without her? He slammed his fist down on the table in front of him before getting up and storming out of the room. He had just gotten word that Abby hadn’t been into work, she hadn’t called either and when he went to check everything out she wasn’t there. What he didn’t know was that the night before she had been at a bar drinking all of her pain away when she met some one who she thought was perfect. He wished that they would have stayed together because then maybe she wouldn’t have strayed from him, maybe they would be married and happy but now he had Kem and she was the last person he wanted to have to deal with. He told himself that he was going to have to wait at least twenty four hours before filing a missing person’s report because she could turn up at any time. He slowly decided to get back to work, praying that Abby was going to be okay.
When Abby woke up she was laying in a bed, a bed that wasn’t hers, in a place that she didn’t recognize. She sat up quickly and then put a hand to her head where she felt a gash that had been stitched up rather nicely leaving her to believe that the man she had met the night before had some medical experience.
Where am I? How did I get here? She groaned slightly and laid back down on the bed feeling like she didn’t have enough energy to try to find a way out of the room. There were no windows and a door lay about ten feet away from the foot of the bed other then that the room was empty. The bed wasn’t very nice it was basically a mattress with an old dirty blanket covering it. She felt the wound on her head again and winced, and she hoped that this scenario wasn’t as bad as it looked.
Carter’s head was pounding now, and strangely enough the pain was emanating from the spot where Abby had been injured. Of course there was no way he could have known about her injury but he did know that he was in pain. He told himself that the reason it hurt so bad was because he was stressed out about things, about losing the baby, and maybe losing Abby all at the same time. He knew she had graduated from med school and he thought that she might have found a better job somewhere far away from him and that almost shattered his heart. He wanted to find Abby and apologize for ever writing that stupid letter to her when he was in Africa, he wanted to tell her that the only reason he stayed with Kem was because he had gotten her pregnant and now that there was no baby to show for it he didn’t know if he could stay with her or not. He swallowed some aspirin and finished off the water in the cup he was holding before reluctantly getting back to work.
When she awoke again there was a rope around her neck tied to one of the pipes in the wall behind her. She struggled just a little to test the strength of the ropes but she soon found that there was no way she was going to escape. She groaned and looked over to the door, the room was dark and she only knew where the door was because of the light peeking in from under it. She stared at the door with a cold hatred for what seemed like hours until it finally opened, revealing the man who had brought her there in the first place.
“Ah doctor Lockhart…” He said in a soft voice that sound rather amused, when they had met in the bar she had told him about how she had just made it to graduation from med school, and how she was a doctor now. By the time he had sat down to talk to her she was already pretty trashed but that didn’t stop her from dinking the beer he handed her, “I’ve been watching you since you were a nurse and now it seems you are all grown up.”
“Bite me.” She spat back at him because she couldn’t remember his name, not that she cared to remember it in the first place. He just laughed and as he got closer she recognized him as one of the frequent flyers at County general, someone who was always coming in begging for pain meds, some one who had to be very out of it, “I know you, you’re name is Scott Senate.” She looked him up and down, and she had to admit that he was a little attractive, if he wasn’t she probably wouldn’t have talked to him when he approached her in the bar. Back at the bar she sort of recognized him but she was too trashed to place a name to the face, she swallowed hard wondering what he could possibly want from her.
“Very good,” He sat down next to her and started to stroke her hair softly even though she twisted her head violently trying to get away from him, “You would never give me the time of day when I was your patient, and that day when you told me you would date me when you became a doctor, well I remembered that.” He smiled wickedly at her and tugged on the rope that was around her neck, pulling her closer into him. She gagged slightly feeling the rope tighten around her neck, he smelled like he had just crawled out of a dumpster and had showered in septic tank but other then that he looked clean which left her to wonder how some one could smell so bad if they looked so clean. He pulled her into a rough kiss and when she tried to pull away he bit into her bottom lip causing blood to spill into her mouth and down her chin. She cried out and shoved him back and he finally let go of her. She quickly grabbed the blanket and pressed it to the wound in her lip to stop the bleeding.
“When I said that I was being sarcastic.” She growled before spitting out a mouthful of blood onto the floor in front of her.
“We’ll see how you feel about it tomorrow morning. After twenty four hours without food or water I’m sure you’ll change your mind.” He got up and headed towards the door, she couldn’t believe he was about to leave her there bleeding as bad as she was.
“WHAT? You can’t just LEAVE me here like this!” She screamed and then spit another mouthful of blood onto the floor in front of her. He sighed and turned around in the doorway before reaching into his pocket and throwing something in her direction. She put her hands up to block the impact but the thing never hit her, it fell a few feet short from the mattress she was sitting on, landing on the floor with a loud clatter. When she saw that it was a first aid kit she felt a little bit relieved but not completely, he slammed the door behind him locking it at least three times before he left. She leaned forward and reached for the first aid kit, it took a bit of effort but she finally reached it and was able to pull it back onto the bed. She opened it and began to pray that some one would notice that she was missing, and she prayed even harder that Scott wasn’t going to kill her.
“I’ll be fine Abby you don’t have to stay up here with me.” Carter urged Abby to go home and get some rest she had been with him all night after the baby had died. Kem didn’t want him to tell anyone about it but he couldn’t keep that kind of thing a secret from Abby for very long. She took a long sip of her coffee, looking down at his now second empty cup of the night. She couldn’t figure out why he wanted her to leave so badly but she couldn’t let him be alone when he was this upset.
“Look John,” She smiled slightly, she couldn’t even remember the last time she had used his first name like that, “I’m not going to leave you, you need to talk to some one right now and I’m willing to listen.” They then stood in silence for a moment, she saw his lower lip tremble and that’s when she pulled him into a hug. The hug lasted for a few moments before Carter pulled away and looked down at her, that’s when the spark in each of their hearts went off and there was no mistaking that feeling. He took in a deep breath and kissed her gently, and she graciously kissed him back forgetting for just a moment that Kem was in the other room waiting for her fiancé to come back with her drink. He slowly backed her into one of the empty rooms that lined the quiet hallway, and he shut the door with his foot, not breaking from the kiss for one moment.
“Are you sure you want to do…”
“Shhh.” he whispered back to her, if she started to talk him out of it he knew that he would never be able to make love to her like he wanted to. She smiled slightly but she wasn’t going to talk him out of it, and he reached out and pulled her shirt over her head revealing her perfectly round breasts. She only wasn’t wearing a bra because she had been in a hurry to get out of the house to come and visit him after he had given her a call. He ran his hands over her chest before kissing down her neck and over her shoulder blade. He took one of the erect nipples into his mouth and started to suck on it gently, and she put her hands in his hair and moaned softly. She didn’t care that Kem was in the other room, she knew that she was supposed to be with him and she knew that this was right so there was nothing that was going to let her stop him from doing this.
Soon the were both undressed and laying on the empty bed in the room, Carter was thrusting into her tight waiting hole and she was loving every second of it. They both had to stay rather quiet, and she didn’t know why he thought that having sex with her would make him feel better but she didn’t care. Her hands were on his shoulders and her nails digging slightly into his back. As he thrust he looked into her eyes and for just a moment she saw how happy he truly was to be doing this with her. His hands roamed her body and her hands tightened around his shoulders. They weren’t using a condom but that fact wouldn’t dawn on Abby until almost an hour after the encounter. They both climaxed, she was silent, only because she knew she had to be. He was a little louder but not enough to draw any attention to what they were doing in there. He pulled out of her and then laid next to her, she wrapped her arms tight around him like she never wanted to let him go. They kissed one more time before he forced himself to get out of the bed and get dressed. She watched him move and realized that she was going to have to get dressed to, and get home, after this she didn’t know if he was going to want to talk to her for a while or not.
After they were both dressed he leaned in to kiss her, but when he pulled away he saw that her lip was bleeding terribly and she had a swollen eye. He shook his head and blinked a few times wondering where this vision was coming from but nothing changed. Abby started to cry and back away from him, suddenly they were in a room with no windows, and she was crying. He didn’t know what do to, every time he took a step closer to her she seemed to get farther and farther away from him.
“Help me, please help me, he’s going to kill me if you don’t do something Carter!” She cried, and he started to run to her but she just kept getting farther and farther away, until finally her image completely faded and she was nowhere to be seen. Then the room faded around him and he was surrounded by complete darkness with Abby’s voice echoing in his ears.
“NO!” John Carter screamed after he had shot straight up in his bed. Kem was right next to him but she didn’t seem to be disturbed by his yelling, in fact she just rolled over and remained asleep. He didn’t want to bother her, and the memory of having sex with Abby so soon after the baby had been delivered made him feel guilty so he didn’t really want to talk to her. He slowly got out of the bed and headed down the stairs to the small town house and into the kitchen to get himself something to drink. He stood in the kitchen for a while waiting for the water to boil so he could make some tea.
After the water was warm and the mug of water was poured he added the tea bag and stared at the phone, he wondered if he should call the police, but he also wondered if maybe he was just reading too much into his dream. The dream could mean anything, he told himself, you know that dreams aren’t always messages that speak the truth. He took another sip of his tea, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that he was getting. It was different now because something was telling him that he needed to find Abby, even if she didn’t need help, and even if she was okay, he was going to have to find her just to be sure. He set his cup of tea down and grabbed the phone, he dialed the local police department to file a missing person’s report on her, something definitely wasn’t right and he needed to find out what it was.
