"So the husband found out what she was up to and shot her with a shotgun right there in the
living room. Blood spatter and brains on the sofa and his pants shows he was standing close
when he did it, maybe 3 feet."
We were wrapping up our night's case with Grissom. It had been brutal, messy, and
straightforward, a jealous husband blowing his wife's head almost completely off after
finding out she was screwing his brother. He had been on his way to his brother's house
when the police pulled him for driving erratically. He was covered in blood, so they went
to his house and found out why. He had confesses readily when we confronted him with the
evidence - his wife was missing half her head, and coincidentally he was wearing quite a
bit of her brains on his Docker's.
"Good work, people." Grissom looked from Sara to me and back again. "This should get a
conviction."
"Hey, Griss! We need to run some bugs by you here!" Nick was standing in the doorway, and
from his aroma I could tell he'd been enjoying a decomp.
Grissom nodded dismissively at Sara, and we slipped out of the office. "Nicky and Warrick
are STRONG men tonight," she said as she breezed past them.
"Ha Ha. Your time will come, Sara," Nick shot back.
I took a breath when we slipped out into the parking lot. "So, we're both off tonight and
tomorrow night."
She looked up from unlocking her car and shot me the most beautiful smile. "That we are.
Any suggestions?"
I sucked in my breath at her expression. "Mmmm-hmmm, a few. Care to discuss them at
breakfast, Miss Sidle?"
"Why, Mr. Sanders, that is such a good idea. I will meet you there."
And so ended the wildest, best, most amazing thirty-six hours of my life. I'd started out
thinking it was going to be about losing dreams and endings, but then in a flash it turned
into finding reality and new beginnings. I smiled and started my car, then headed off into
the rest of my life.
