mine to whet my appetite for these two characters to hook up.
Summary: Secret trysts with a co-worker usually
spell trouble with a capital T. For these two colleagues it was a gamble they
played…until one realized it was taboo & put a stop to it.
Author’s Note: I attempted to write numerous
fics concentrating on this two completely opposite characters, but after
watching them interact with one another in episode #604, Shooting Stars,
there’s this instant chemistry that clicked for this two.

BRIGHT BLUE EYES LOCKED WITH CHOCOLATE BROWN ONES. A
mischievous grin appeared on both their faces as he slowly crawled up to where
she sprawled on the king-size bed inside the run-of-the-mill motel room they
rented for the night. It was both their night off duty. This thing between
them had been bubbling up for months, but neither one of them dared to admit
there was an attraction far deeper than that of friends and co-workers
underneath the surface.
They had a wonderful rapport at work. They
never got to work much at all last year when their teams were divided by Ecklie,
and then there was that traumatic moment in his life a few months back. Being
entombed alive wasn’t something one could easily get over with no matter how
much therapy a person went to.
She saw a glimpse of fear, anger and resentment
cloud over the same chocolate brown eyes looking hungrily at her right now.
They were wrapping up the case of the killed accountant who was run over by her
own vehicle in the underground parking lot of her office’s building. Their
killer happened to be the daughter of the man who was responsible for entombing
him alive to begin with. He didn’t say it, but she guessed. He and the vic-slash-killer
formed a bond as a result of that life-altering experience of his.
She just went through a life-altering
experience herself a few months back and put her career on the line. She was at
a crossroads then. She went through the trauma of thinking she was the one
responsible for the death of a fellow officer.
She invited him over her place after they
wrapped up the case involving the Gordon woman. She only meant to console him,
but one thing led to another and now…they’d been cavorting on and off after work
or during their days/nights off.
He finally reached her, pinning her between the
bed and his body. She captured her wrists and pinned them over her head. Her
breasts saluted him when he did so, and he couldn’t help from grinning even
wider at the tantalizing sight. He dipped his dark head and captured one taut
nipple between his lips. She closed her eyes as the usual sensation assaulted
her body. They’d been far too busy this past few days to actually find the time
to sneak in some quickie before or after work.
“I’ve missed you so much,” she cooed, freeing
one wrist from his grip and drug her fingers through his thick mass of hair.
CSI Nick Stokes lifted his head and met
Detective Sofia Curtis’ eyes; a playful glimmer in his eyes told her she missed
him too. Without saying a word he captured her lips for a kiss so breathtaking
she was thankful they were in bed otherwise her knees would’ve given out. She
felt hunger and passion all rolled into one and given it to her in a kiss so
powerful it knocked her breath away.
“You have no idea how much I missed you,” he
whispered against her lips before trailing kisses down her throat and down
further between the valley between her breasts. Nick stopped his mouth’s
sensual assault on her body when he reached her flat stomach. He gave her
raspberries, starting a wave of girlish giggling from the woman on the bed with
him.
“I think I have a fairly good idea just how
much,” Sofia answered throatily, looking down at him as he continued his mouth’s
ascent. She let out a soft gasp when he spread her legs apart, his face mere
inches away from her pussy. She felt his warm breath fanning her slick folds
before feeling his tongue part them and bury itself deep inside her hole.
Nick devoured her sweet-tangy taste with gusto,
driving the blond usually tough-as-nails detective off the edge. Her soft
whimpers soon turned to soft, cooing moans before turning to an all-out
screamfest as Nick lapped at her. When he finished Sofia was clinging on to the
bed sheet catching her breath.
Nick, satiated, grinned up at the woman
sprawled eagle on the floor. He crawled up to her slowly, positioning himself
snugly between her spread legs. He framed her between his arms helping support
him over her.
“Had enough?” he asked teasingly.
Sofia slowly opened her eyes, those
tantalizingly sexy blue orbs gazing longingly at the handsome Texan hovering
over her. Lifting her hand she touched the side of his face gently, almost
lovingly, before lifting her head up and captured his lips for a deep,
passionate kiss. She tasted herself on his lips before slowly breaking off the
kiss.
“I think we’re just getting started…” she
cooed, her hand slipping down between them capturing his throbbing erection in
her hand, guiding it towards her aching entrance.
Nick picked up quickly and slowly slipped
inside her slick crevice. He watched her face as he slowly plunged into her,
loving how she bit on her lower lip, her eyes partly closed as she enjoyed the
moment; this moment of their union. Soon he was moving in and out of
her. Her legs wrapped around his waist hooked at the ankles as she guided him,
helping build up the tempo until they were moving as one; moving faster and
faster, reaching that proverbial cloud nine before collapsing. Both were out of
breath, obviously satiated—for the time being.
Neither one of them spoke. They just relished
the moment, making a mental inventory at the back of their heads to keep for
later.
It was always like this between them. After
each tryst they’d bask in the glow of their lovemaking in silence, both were off
in their own little world thinking… wondering…pondering on the ‘what ifs.’
This relationship of theirs – whatever kind of
relationship it turned out to be – wasn’t a stable one. Hiding from their
co-workers; enjoying a few stolen moments every now and then – it wasn’t stuff
romance movies were made out of. Or maybe it was the kind of stuff angsty-romance
movies were made out of. Nevertheless, they both knew if they continued on with
this nothing good would come out of it.
Someone has to end it. But who? Why end
something so good so soon? Nobody at work suspected they were seeing each other
on the side. Sure there were the odd times they were seen walking out to the
parking lot together and acted a bit too chummy with each other, but people
shrugged it off and figured they’d just gotten along so well.
WALKING DOWN THE LAB HALLWAY Nick could feel every eye on
him. He ignored it, of course, but he couldn’t shake off the weird feeling that
those looks meant something. There were also some whispered rumours he
caught wind off regarding him and a certain blonde female colleague.
He was working on a murder-suicide case with
Sofia as the arresting officer. It seldom happens that they work together on a
case since they secretly hooked up for sex after the last time they worked
together.
At the entrance separating the lab from the PD
stood Sofia, her long, soft golden blonde hair pulled back behind her ears. She
had that big, bright smile plastered on her face as she watched him approach.
They were meeting up to go back to the crime scene for further investigation.
“Hey,” she nodded in greeting.
“Hey,” Nick greeted back, his facial expression
and voice devoid of any emotion.
Sofia cocked an eyebrow and held his gaze. He
knew by now what that look meant, but Nick ignored it and treated her the way
he’d treat any of his colleagues: with utmost professionalism.
He guided her out of the office and headed for
their parked vehicles in the lot. Sofia waited until they were out of earshot
from everyone else inside the building before confronting him with this
indifferent attitude he was giving her.
“Did I do something wrong?”
“No.”
“No?” she echoed and walked ahead of him and
stood in his way. “Are you sure?” she demanded.
“Sofia—”
“Nick, I think I’ve come to know you a great
deal over the course of the last few weeks that we’ve been seeing each other,”
she reminded him. “You’re never this cold towards me around the office, and I
can’t help but wonder what happened to the man who spent countless hours in bed
with me two nights ago to be replaced by this person standing before me right
now.”
“Sofia I don’t think this is the right place to
have this discussion right now,” he replied feeling uneasy at the topic of their
conversation. They agreed right from the beginning to keep a lid on what they’d
been doing after work and during their days off. They were both aware that such
relationship between colleagues was frowned upon by quite a few people.
“No, Nick. I think we should have this
conversation right here, right now,” she demanded.
“We have a case to solve. If you want
to have a discussion regarding us then we’ll do it after work. I’ll buy
you dinner.”
Sofia opened her mouth to argue, but Nick
didn’t give her the chance. He walked around her and went straight for his
Denali. She turned and watched him walked stiff-backed towards his vehicle.
He’d have it his way…for now. They’d finish gathering evidence, work on the
possible killer and call it a night. She hung her head forward and gathered her
composure before walking to her car. She was a professional and she’d get
through this investigation without her personal life getting in the way. She
pulled out of the parking lot shortly after Nick and followed him down towards
the Strip and out towards the residential area.
NICK FELT LIKE A COMPLETE HEEL after the way he treated
Sofia out in the parking lot, but she was touching on a very touchy subject
neither one of them would want to be discussed in public.
He didn’t mean to be rude to her when he met up
with her outside the lab, but after what he witnessed in the lab on his way to
meet her he knew he had to put a stop to those rumours and prevent it from
spreading. He didn’t mind being the center of this rumour, but to have Sofia be
dragged into it was something he wouldn’t tolerate.
He cared for her, dammit! He didn’t think he’d
care for the woman too damn much that he was willing to sacrifice their
blossoming relationship that might lead to something more than just sex for the
sake of her reputation at work. But certain precautions must be taken and if
distancing himself from her was the key, then by Jove he’d do it!
He was a complete ass to let a woman take the
fall. If he could do something to prevent it from happening he would; and
that was what he was doing. Apparently Sofia had no idea of the rumours
circulating the lab otherwise she wouldn’t be so riled up with his attitude
towards her.
Nick arrived at the diner less frequented by
his teammates and stationed himself in a booth at the far end of the room. He
already called Sofia and told her where to meet him. She was finishing writing
up a report and told him she was on her way.
Sofia arrived fifteen minutes later. She made
a beeline to the back booth where Nick told her he would be waiting and slipped
in the seat opposite him. Nick already ordered their drinks and was just
waiting for her before he ordered their food.
“How’s everything?” he asked after their server
left with their orders.
“Everything’s okay, I guess,” she shrugged.
“How about you?”
Nick knew very well she wasn’t asking about his
day. She was referring to his cold-shoulder treatment of hers earlier today.
“About earlier today…I was out of line, I’m
sorry about that,” he apologized. “I just…I’m just thinking about the case,” he
excused. He couldn’t bring himself to tell her what he heard in the lab on his
way to meet with her.
Sofia cocked an eyebrow as he watched him
across the table from her. She remained aloof from the moment she entered the
diner until she sat down in the booth across from him. She was a bit miffed by
his treatment of hers earlier and regardless of how understanding she was, she
still couldn’t shrug off the fact that Nick had the gall to shove her aside like
last night’s leftover.
“You heard something, didn’t you?” Sofia cut
through the chase and went straight for the source of all this.
Nick looked surprised that she knew. His
sultry chocolate brown eyes widened, his lips parted slightly but said nothing.
Sofia went on.
“I heard some nasty rumours too concerning a
certain male CSI and a blonde female detective. That’s why I stayed
later than usual this evening,” she explained.
Nick didn’t know whether he was relieved that
she knew or pissed off that she found out what he thought he could put a lid on
until the whole damn thing fizzes out.
“Sofia—”
Sofia cut him off by lifting a hand to stop him
from saying anything. “I put two and two together after what I heard and
figured you only did what you have to do earlier that was why you were rude to
me.”
Nick hated that she was making excuses for his
behaviour. She was spot-on though, but nevertheless he owed her an apology for
his actions.
“I don’t know how they found out or what
gave them ideas about us, but I swear I’ll make sure to put a lid on this,” he
promised her.
Sofia took a deep, long, dragged-out breath and
leaned back in her seat. She kept her fingers laced together and resting on the
table. She lowered her gaze as she fought her inner battle with herself. All
the way to the diner she was debating on whether to do what she figured would be
the best for the two of them or not. But after what she caught wind off at
work, she knew she better act fast before it spread way out of proportion.
“There’s no need for that, Nicky.” Slowly
Sofia lifted her eyes now brimming with tears. “I think it’ll be best for the
both of us if we just stop seeing each other outside of work.”
“What?” Nick couldn’t believe what he just
heard.
No. She couldn’t have possibly put a stop to
their budding relationship. The thought crossed his mind at some point to stop
their secret rendezvous, but now when he was faced with it he couldn’t bring
himself to come into terms with it.
“Sofia—”
She raised her hand to stop him from
continuing. She knew it was hard for him as it was for her, but unless one of
them ended their dalliance, the rumours at work wouldn’t stop.
“I’m sorry, Nick. We both knew this day will
have to come.”
“But it doesn’t have to be now,” he
argued and reached across the table to cover her hand with his.
Sofia pulled back and rested her hands on her
lap under the table. “I’m sorry,” she apologized and scanned the room quickly.
She needed to look elsewhere but him. “I’ll…this will be the last time we’ll be
seen in public together that is not work-related.”

END – or not...just watch out for part 2 to this
story. I have a feeling things isn’t over between Nick and Sofia just yet.
