Some enchanted evening
Jean lifted her head and saw the gray, dreary day
through the bedroom windows and snuggled next to Lionel, slipping her hand
beneath his pajama top to caress his back.
Lionel woke up.
“Miserable day” he muttered to himself and decided
that staying abed, next to Jean, was better than breakfast. It wasn’t until after eight that they were both
ready to start the day.
“Morning.”
“Morning.”
“Sleep well?”
“Yes. You?”
“Very.”
“Good. Do
you want breakfast?” Lionel asked Jean.
“Just toast and coffee.” She tied the sash of her robe and headed for
the bathroom. “I’ll be down in a
minute.”
“Are you busy tonight?” Lionel asked Jean.
“Doing what?”
“I don’t know.
I thought you might have plans”, Lionel said.
“Plans? What
would I be doing without you?”
“I don’t know.
You said something earlier in the week about having dinner with
Phyllis.”
“Oh, true.
No, that’s not on. She called to
cancel. Is there something you’d like to
do this evening?” she asked her husband.
“Yes. I’d
like to take you out to dinner.
Someplace very swish. What do you
think of that?”
“Ohh, that sounds
lovely. Where?”
“It’s a surprise.”
“That means you haven’t made reservations”, she
teased him.
“Possibly.
Possibly not. In either case,
since it’s going to be very swish, you’ll have to get all dressed up.”
Jean smiled in anticipation. “Very well.
I shall get all dressed up. What
time must I be ready?”
“Not a minute later than seven thirty.”
“Oh ho, so we do
have reservations. You’re a dark horse
Lionel.”
He gave a smug grin. “I’ve been known to pull off a surprise or
two.”
“What are you going to do today?” she asked.
“Well, I thought I’d finally get started on A Drizzly Day in Holland Park. Ever since you told Mike Barbosa
that’s my next book, I can’t stop thinking about it. And since today is a drizzly day, it seems a
good time to start.”
“Do you have an idea?”
“Oh yes.
It’s just a day in the life of an ordinary Londoner. From the minute he rises until he goes to
sleep.”
“It has potential.”
“Yeah, that’s what I thought. So after breakfast I’d better get started.”
§
Lionel was as good as his word. After breakfast he showered and dressed then
went straight to the desk in the back room overlooking the garden and commenced
working on his new book. He sat for hours,
alternately scribbling like mad and staring out the window. He took a short break for lunch wishing Jean
were home to eat with him and then went straight back to work.
“I’m back” Jean called and entered the living
room. Lionel looked up.
“You’ve been gone for hours. What did you do?”
“I had a manicure and a pedicure and had my hair
done. Do you like it?”
“Yes. Very
nice.”
“That’s not terribly enthusiastic.”
“Oh! It’s
just lovely. Positively gorgeous. The best ever.”
“Don’t be sarcastic, Lionel, it doesn’t suit you.”
He grimaced.
“You did say we’re going someplace very swish”,
Jean said. “Now I must start getting
ready.”
“It’s not even three
o’clock!” Lionel exclaimed. Jean rolled her eyes and went upstairs.
§
It was just about five thirty when Lionel went
upstairs and heard Frank Sinatra’s voice coming from his bedroom. Lionel smiled, knowing that Jean only played
Sinatra when she was feeling especially romantic.
“Hello” Lionel stood behind Jean who was at her
dressing table; with his hands on her shoulders, he bent down and kissed her
neck. “Sinatra?”
“Um hum. Sinatra.”
Jean smiled at him and rubbed her face against his
hand. “How’s the writing coming along?”
“Fairly well.
I’ve got a good idea I think.
Each chapter will be an hour in his life.”
“That sounds interesting. Twenty four chapters then.”
“No. Probably
only sixteen or so. Just waking
hours.” Lionel massaged her
shoulders.
“You’ve been up here for hours. I thought you’d surely be dressed by now”,
Lionel teased her.
“Lionel, it’s more than a quick shower and put on
a dress. It takes a lot of work to look
good.”
“Does it?”
He slid his hands beneath her robe, still massaging her shoulders and
arms.
Jean looked at him in the mirror, her pleasure at
his touch evident in the huskiness of her voice. “Yes.
I bathed and waxed and plucked and buffed and lotioned.”
Lionel brought the footstool over, sat down and
took Jean’s left foot in his hands.
“You’ve been very busy.” He began
to rub her foot, massaging the sole with his fingers. Lionel kissed the sole of her foot,
beginning at the heel and along the arch, kissing the ball of her foot and then
the bottoms of her toes. “Pretty
toes.” He licked her big toe and watched
her squirm in appreciation when he began to suck each of her toes. “Very pretty toes. Perhaps one of my chapters will be all about
the erotic thrill of kissing his wife’s feet.”
Lionel made love to her foot, sucking and nibbling
on her toes and kissing her foot.
Lionel’s hands traveled along her leg, massaging her calf and knee and
thighs and his tongue followed along leaving soft kisses, warm and wet trailing
along Jean’s tender flesh. Jean sighed
with pleasure at the touch of Lionel’s tongue and hands on her body; she parted
her legs, making it easier for Lionel to caress her. He looked up and saw a wet spot darkening the
crotch of her knickers and lightly rubbed his face against her. Lionel inhaled Jean’s scent, his cock stirred
beneath his trousers; his lips brushed against her and he licked the soft flesh
that pouted against the gossamer fabric.
With a last gentle kiss Lionel rose to his feet. Jean’s eyes flew open in surprise at his
abrupt departure.
“Oh!” she gasped.
Lionel grinned and bent over to kiss her mouth. “I must shower and dress if we’re to be ready
at on time.”
“You’re a naughty man, Lionel Hardcastle,
a very naughty man.”
“That’s me.
Naughty.” He stripped off his
clothes and stood there in the nude. He
waved his cock at her. “See you later”,
he said and left the room.
Jean laughed and thought to herself So that’s how it’s to be and she gathered
herself together and turned back to her dressing table.
§
Lionel stood at the foot of the stairs and called
out impatiently, “Jean? Aren’t you ready
yet?”
She appeared at the top of the landing. “I’m ready.
Do you approve?” She walked
slowly down the stairs so Lionel could see how she looked.
“Wholeheartedly.
You look lovely. I like your
dress very much.”
“Thank you, Lionel.” She rewarded him with a kiss. “You look very handsome. Do we have
time for a drink before we need to leave?”
“Just”, the doorbell rang “barely. No, I don’t think so.” Lionel opened the door and shut it half a
moment later. “The taxi is here. Do you mind having a drink when we get there
instead?”
“Not at all.” Jean put on her wrap and gathered her
bag, taking one last look in the hall mirror.
“Where are we going?”
Lionel closed the front door behind them and
escorted Jean down the front stairs. “Sinomisi.”
“Lionel!
Oh! I’ve wanted to go there for
ages. How did you get
reservations?”
“Oh, I learned to use a telephone quite a long time
ago. Come on. The taxi’s waiting.”
§
The ride wasn’t long and soon Lionel and Jean were
being escorted to their table which was a banquette in a quiet little corner of
the restaurant. The restaurant’s
elegance surpassed all that Jean had heard about it. The tablecloth and napkins were ivory damask,
the cutlery was hallmarked and bore the restaurant ’s
initial, the glasses were Baccarat, and the dinnerware was Royal Worcester. After their waiter presented their drinks and
took their order, Jean lifted her glass.
“To the handsomest man in the room.”
“And to the loveliest lady here.”
“Thank you for this, Lionel. It’s so unexpected.”
“Yes, it’s a surprise.” He tweaked her.
Jean smiled at her husband and laced her free hand
through his. She leaned in close and
spoke very softly. “Touché.” She slipped her shoe and caressed his leg
with her bare foot. “I like surprises”
she said.
“So do I” he responded; his stomach did a quick leap
at the touch of her foot pushing his trouser leg up his calf and he flashed a
grin at her. So that’s how it’s to be he thought to himself and all through
dinner they flirted with each other. Jean
felt a wonderful tingling between her legs and her nipples hardened and she
longed to feel Lionel’s lips and hands on her body. She flushed with excitement as Lionel’s eyes
caressed her face and body, the swell of her cleavage tempting him. Lionel’s cock responded to Jean’s every
touch, especially when her hand lingered on his thigh, gently caressing him.
After dinner they strolled along the embankment to
the Riverton Thames Hotel where they sat in the lounge sipping their after
dinner brandy; a small band played and couples danced.
Jean looked directly into Lionel’s eyes and felt
her heart expand with love; she put her glass down and leaned forward. “Do you remember the first time we fell in
love? The ecstasy of it? The ever present feeling of anxiety and
exhilaration being with each other?”
“Of course I remember. Rushing to meet you, stealing time alone,
borrowing your friend’s flat. Always
worried we’d never have enough time together.”
“It’s not like that any more, is it?
“No”, Lionel agreed, “it isn’t”
“I’m glad.”
“You are?”
Lionel was surprised.
“Yes. The
first rush of love was wonderful and special and we had it twice. Once all those years ago and then again
now.” Lionel clasped her hand in his as
he listened to the emotion in her gentle voice. “Even so, I’m glad that
euphoria is gone because now . . . well, now, is constant, steady, always
present. I love you and with you I feel
loved and safe and secure. I’m putting it badly, but I adore you, Lionel.”
“You put it beautifully. I love you too.” Lionel bent his head and kissed Jean, his arm
moved above her waist and his thumb caressed the side of her breast. “Would you like to dance?”
She just nodded in reply. Lionel took her hand and the stepped onto the
dance floor. They danced to half a dozen
songs before Lionel invited Jean to step outside on the stone gallery for a
breath of fresh air.
“Penny for your thoughts”, he said.
“I want to go home and make love with my
husband. I want to touch and kiss you,
to taste your skin, to take you deep inside me and wrap my arms and legs around
you as you . . .”
Lionel interrupted her as he took her in his arms
and kissed her, her mouth opened to his and their tongues met, teasing each
other, giving themselves completely to each other.
“Yes, home” he agreed when their kiss ended.
