Clark tossed his backpack into the corner of his dorm room,
remembering at the last moment to be careful, and collapsed back on his bed,
sighing loudly. Dick Grayson, his roommate of two years, looked up from the
spread of books on his own bed across the room and grinned. “Bad
day?”
“No, well, yeah, kind of.” There was a dramatic sigh and
Clark rolled over onto his side to look at Dick. “How did you know you’re…” he
gestured vaguely, blushing.
“Hot?” Dick grinned again as Clark snorted and rolled his
eyes, before putting his notebook to the side and looking at Clark seriously.
“Or did you mean ‘gay’?” The way Clark turned bright red had Dick laughing
softly and laying back on his own bed. “I suppose it was because of the fact
that I happen to enjoy sex with men,” he answered dryly, “or for those of us
who have yet to enjoy that particular pleasure, it can be obvious if you spend
a lot of time dreaming about sex with men.”
“Oh,” Clark swallowed, lifting his lips in a
self-deprecating smile as his mind flashed back to his dream from the night
before. He could still see Lex, sweaty,
eyes darkened with lust as he bent his head down to kiss Clark... Groaning
slightly, Clark pushed aside the memories and spoke again. “I guess that’s
pretty obvious, huh?”
“Yeah.” The silence was slightly
awkward. “Is there a reason why you wanted to know, Clark?”
“It’s just… there’s this guy, and I’ve been having these
dreams about him lately. I know we shouldn’t, I mean, it’s
wrong. It’s practically a sin; I’m
sure that’s what mom would say.” Dick’s eyebrow raised and Clark flushed. Even
though Lex wasn’t technically his brother, both boys
having been adopted, they were raised as brothers, and Clark suspected that
while Martha had no qualms with her sons being gay, she may have an issue with
them being gay together. He could only hope that if, indeed, Lex felt the same
for him, she would accept that they made each other
happy. He hoped, anyway. “Not the gay thing, but being with this particular
guy.”
There was a silence as Dick sat up on his bed, leaning
against the wall as he looked at Clark. “Okay, so it’s just one guy that you’re
dreaming about. That doesn’t make you gay, Clark. It
could just be this one guy. Have you ever thought
about, y’know, sex or kissing a different guy?”
“Well, yeah. Kind of. Isn’t that
normal, though?” Clark flushed.
Dick laughed, a low rumble that
vibrated across the short space between the two. “The occasional stray thought
is normal. More than that... well, you may be bi, Clark.” He shrugged,
grinning. “And anyway, there’s only one sure way to know, right?” Dick ran his
eyes over his friend and leered wickedly before rolling off the bed sensuously.
“Or don’t you want to know?”
There was a soft moan off assent before Clark sat up, hands
reaching for Dick’s sides and pulling him towards him. “What did you have in
mind?”
“Just this...” His head dipped forward, brushing his lips
against Clark’s. The kiss was gentle at first, until
Clark’s lips parted and Dick’s tongue thrust inside his lips, mimicking the
motion with a gentle roll of his hips, pressing his throbbing hard on against
Clark’s.
Clark moaned at the sensation, and instinctually began
lifting his own hips in tandem with Dick’s motions, meeting and retreating. The
kiss continued, growing more passionate as they sought to map out each other’s
mouths. “Dick... it feels... so good...” he gasped out between kisses.
Dick hummed in reply, hands shifting from Clark’s shoulders
to slide under his shirt and over his flat stomach, tugging gently at the fine
hair that trailed down from his belly button before stopping right above his
waistband.
“Hey, Clark, you forgot your—” Clark and Dick both groaned
as they turned to look at the door as it began to swing shut.
“Lex,” Clark moaned, his body tensing and arching against
Dick’s as he came, shuddering. A tear rolled down his cheek as Dick spasmed against him before rolling off. “Fuck,” Clark
raised his hand to press against his eyes, before choking out a soft laugh.
“Well, I gather I’m at least bi,
if not gay.”
Dick nodded towards the door. “You’ve got his picture by
your bed. I thought he was your brother, man.”
Clark laughed, rubbing his palms against his eyes as he sat
up, reaching for the box of Kleenex so he could clean himself off. “He is. I was adopted after the meteor shower, an orphan after all of
that mess. Lex... Lex’s father died that day, and a
year later, his mom died. But she remembered my parents, and arranged for them
to adopt Lex as well.” Dumping the Kleenex into the wastebasket, he turned to
look at Dick. “He is my brother; but he’s not.”
Dick nodded, looking at the picture on the night table, and
then back to Clark, understanding dawning. “So what are you waiting here for?”
He paused, trying to make sense of what he wanted to say. “Look, it’s obvious
if you know what to look for. You like him, right? And
he just walked in and caught us going
at it. The way I see it, you should go talk to him. Don’t
make the same mistakes I did, Clark. Go after him.”
Clark flushed and nodded. “Yeah... Yeah, I think I’ll do that. Thanks, Dick.”
“No problem, Clark.” Dick turned towards his own bed,
flinching as the door swung shut behind Clark before he let himself mourn...
for what he lost with Bruce, and for what he just gave up with Clark.
Lex was sitting in his silver-blue Porsche in the dorm
parking lot. After growing up with Clark, he had learned better than to just
run away when he was upset. It was inevitable that Clark would use his powers
and find him—it was better to be found close by, rather
than to be found driving on the highway at 120 miles per hour. At least it was
safer. The last time he’d tried to run he hadn’t made
it more than five minutes out the city before he noticed a flicker out of the
corner of his eye, and found Clark sitting calmly next to him. Lex had nearly
crashed the car because he had been so surprised.
“Lex,” Clark leaned through the open window and waited for
the slight nod from Lex before he opened the door and slid in. “We need to
talk—”
“Look, if you’re worried about mom and dad finding out,
don’t be.”
“What? I’m not worried about that,
Lex. I don’t care... well, mom and dad will find out eventually regardless, and
if things happen the way I want them to, then they’ll find out soon.” Clark
sighed, and buckled up his seat belt, shifting to get his legs settled in
comfortably before leaning his head back against the headrest.
“Fine. Where would you like to go
to talk, Clark? Shall we go visit mom and dad? I mean, you figure they’ll know soon if Dick and you start dating, right? And
hell, you know they’ll take it better if you’re in a relationship with that...
that... boy,” Lex spat out the word
as though disgusted, “rather than if they find out you were just rutting with him.”
Clark lifted his head, turning to glare at Lex. “First off, I’m
not interested in Dick, not like that. He’s my friend,
nothing more. Secondly, we will not be discussing this with mom and dad, Lex.
Can we just go somewhere private to talk, or would you like to do that here,
where anybody can see us?”
Lex turned the key, and the Porsche started with a low
rumble that oddly reminded Clark of Dick’s laughter not too long ago. “We can
go to the Penthouse. I assume that meets with your request for somewhere
private in which we may speak.”
Clark could swear he heard Lex mumbling an addition about
being sure he needed ‘something to drink,’ but chose not to dwell on it.
Instead, Clark closed his eyes, trusting his brother to get them there safely,
while he worried over what he was going to say to Lex, and how best to say it.
Sighing, he settled in for the drive, humming ‘Taps’ under his breath.
It felt like it was both too long and too short of a time
before Lex was pulling into the underground parking, and tossing the keys to
the valet without even a second look. Clark was stumbling after Lex, wincing at
the looks they were getting. If it wasn’t obvious
enough before that Lex was furious, Clark could almost see the anger radiating
from his older brother. Frowning to himself, he revised how he would say things
as either too brash or too likely to make Lex even angrier—something Clark did
not want to have happen at all. He was still rethinking what he was going to
say by the time that Lex was unlocking the door, and disarming the alarm.
“Well?” Lex tossed his keys into the dish by the door,
toeing off his Italian leather dress shoes with all the casualty of a teenager
chucking off his sneakers, and Clark had to smile a little at the image before
he pulled off his own sneakers with a little less grace than Lex had exhibited.
“We’re somewhere private, and I’m not driving so that can’t be an excuse. So
why don’t we talk, little brother.”
Lex snarled the last two words, and Clark flinched. “Did you think I’d be
repulsed that you’re gay?”
“No! Lex, I know you’re bi. I caught you before, with Bruce. God, it feels
like years ago... I knew you wouldn’t care about me.” He shrugged and turned to
walk towards the French doors leading out to the balcony.
“So why couldn’t you share this with me, Clark?” Lex’s voice
sounded tight, pained. Clark sighed softly, wrapping
his hands around the fence surrounding the balcony, careful to be gentle with
the fragile steel beams. “Why did I have to find out by catching you in bed
with Dick?”
“Because I didn’t know.” Clark
closed his eyes, swaying forward, as though he’d
rather jump than talk about this right now. “I didn’t know I was gay. Not for sure. So I asked Dick, and he... helped me.”
“How can you not be sure about something like that?” Clark
could hear the eye roll in Lex’s voice, and he smiled slightly.
“I asked Dick, and he said if I dreamed about having sex
with another man.” Clark laughed, lifting his head so he could look up at the
clouds. “But, the thing is, I only really dream about one man that way. So I
had to know if it was just that one man, or if it was men in general.”
“And?”
“I enjoyed it, kissing Dick, getting off with him. But...”
Clark paused, steeling himself for what he was going to say, “it wasn’t as good as my dreams of you.” Lex was silent, and
Clark fidgeted. After two minutes had passed, Clark felt a tear slide down his
cheek, his heart breaking. “I... I guess it’s stupid.
I mean, you’re my brother, right?” He laughed again, only this time the sound
was hollow.
“Yes. And no. It’s
not stupid. Clark, I...” Lex swallowed, and waited for Clark to turn around and
look at him. There were tears on Lex’s cheeks, and Clark could feel his chest
aching for him. “You’re... we were raised as brothers. But
you’re not, I’m not... I never felt like this before—”
“And you think it’s wrong. I understand, Lex. It’s fine. Just some... some silly little crush I’ll grow
out of, right?”
“No! God, Clark, I don’t want you
to grow out of it. Tonight, when I walked in on you and Dick.
It hurt. I wanted to hurt him for daring to touch you. I wanted, Christ, I
wanted to have him killed for touching what’s mine. Because you are,
Clark. You’re mine. You’re
my baby brother, you’re my best friend, and damn
it, you’re the man I’ve fallen in love with over these past few years. I
just didn’t realize it until tonight.”
Clark could see Lex’s throat tightening as he swallowed, and
smiling, he stepped forward, wrapping his arms around Lex in a tight hug. “I
was so scared, Lex. So scared that you would hate me, or would walk away, or...
or you’d tell me that you didn’t love me like this.” His shoulders shook as he
pressed his face into the crook of Lex’s neck, bending his knees slightly in
order to do so. “Lex, oh, Lex... kiss me... please...”
Turning his head slightly, their lips met, almost by
accident as they gently touched, lingered, and savoured the foreign flavour.
Clark sighed happily, tongue reaching out tentatively
to trace the scar over Lex’s lip before circling slowly, and gently asking entrance
to Lex’s mouth. Lex allowed Clark to take control for a moment, before taking
over and gentling the kiss before pulling away to press his forehead against
Clark’s. “I love you, Clark.”
“I love you too, Lex.”
