“Cabin Fever”
After spending a whole year of fighting evil and saving the world, our mystic rangers have decided to take some well needed time off.
“Ok explain to me once again why we’re doing this?” Chip complained.
“Udonna said to do something that’ll free our minds and replenish our bodies.” Madison grunted.
“As well as give our mystic spirits some solstice.” Nick puffed, as he pinched Madison’s butt which was above him. “I’m not complaining, this is fun.”
“Ouch! Hey! Don’t distract me, or I’ll lose my footing!” Madison shrieked.
“Hey quiet down there, I don’t want to be covered in snow!” Xander snapped.
Despite all the layers of clothing he put on, Xander was still shivering, but it wasn’t just from the cold. For some reason, when everyone decided on vacation spot no one bothered to listen to him. Noooo! Everyone wanted to go snow boarding off the rocky mountains. He was outnumbered in the group vote 4 to 1. He’d rather go to a tourist spa in Palm Springs, California. Everyone complained it was too close to home, and sounded too boring. Xander didn’t understand how observing the complimenting bodies of half-naked beautiful women be boring. He mumbled it under his breath and he could’ve sworn Vida gave him a look of sheer death out the corner of her eyes. He shivered even more at the memory.
“Gods that girl can kill an imp with that look.” He murmured as he got the courage to look up where she hovered a few meters above him. Vida was bubbly with excitement through out this whole adventure. ‘I thought Fairies didn’t like the cold’
“You know, I’m starting to like Xander’s idea a lot more right about now.” Chip grunted as he climbed.
“Oh cut the crap!” Vida snapped, “The guide told us there are cabins up at the top of this mountain, and it’s the smallest one in the area.”
“Figures.” Madison conceded.
“And Xander’s idea isn’t challenging at all!” Vida said.
“Oi! What do you mean my idea wasn’t challenging. Of course it is! Deciding whether to court a brunette or blonde can be quite taxing on a man’s cerebellum!…Or…cerebrum?
Anyway, there’s also an age difference you have to consider. And-
“Shut up! I can’t believe you sometimes!” Vida shouted, and shifted her foot so that some snow fell and landed in Xanders face.
“Oh come on V. Don’t get all angry, you know Xander’s only joking.” Chip chuckled.
“Who’s joking?” Xander grumbled as he coughed and spat snow out of his mouth. “Damned fiery woman. I’ll bet if you give her half the chance she’d melt all the snow on this blasted mountain!”
“Uh…Xander I don’t think that was-” Nick started to say
“What did you just say about me, green giant?!” Vida snapped as pink wings sprouted from her back and unnatural wind started to grow around them. “Why don’t you make like a leaf and leave?!”
“Hey! No powers remember!” Nick shouted as he quickly started to climb up faster to get closer to Madison, since they were all in a line going up the mountain Vida was in front because she insisted on being leader, then Xander because Nick thought it best he stay behind her, then Chip then Maddy then Nick. Nick never thought they’d find the time or energy to argue at this altitude.
Madison told him that she noticed a change in her sisters attitude when she’s with Xander. Hell we all have, and it all started awhile back when they were fighting those Terrors. They’ve seemed to have gotten closer to one another, but they fought so damned much it was hard for everyone to stand being around them. Maddy says they’re in love with each other but Nick highly doubts it. Udonna said something about it being apart of their passionate natures, if that’s true then Nick feels that they just might kill each other.
“Vida! Stop!” Madison screamed as she clung to the mountain. Nick quickly pulled his body over hers to cover it from the harsh biting wind.
“No. Shush, Maddy the wind carriers our voices.” Nick warned as he held her body tightly against his own.
“Hey! The hell is wrong with you?!” Xander snapped as he quickly climbed up further to get closer to Vida.
“Don’t you dare touch me!” she snapped as she began to float away from the mountain.
“Oh no you don’t!” Xander growled as he grabbed her leg.
“Vida!” Chip shouted. “Calm down! Are you nuts?!”
Watching the drama unfold above him, Nick shook his head.
“This couldn’t get any worse.” He muttered.
“Please don’t say that.” Madison whimpered. “Every time someone says that…what’s that sound?”
They both didn’t move or make a sound, listening close, which was hard with all the commotion going on above them, but Nick started to see more and more chunks of snow fall around them. Bad sign.
“Damn it! The slates are shifting.” He gritted with his teeth.
“Huh?” Madison asked bewildered as to what her was talking about.
“The snow off the side of this mountain is falling! With us on it!” Nick growled. “I can only guess how thick this snow must bet at this altitude.”
“Oh god!” Madison shivered, as the wild blew at her chapped lips. “But, we can’t fall off the mountain, right? I mean I spelled our suits and shoes to stick along the snow and ice.”
“Maddy it won’t matter, our weight against the ice and snow is already too chancy. We aren’t supposed to stay in one area too long. And when the ice breaks and crumbles your spell will, too.” Nick explained.
“Darn it. I wish we thought this through, before we started to climb this thing.” Madison growled.
“Xander!!” Nick shouted.
“Huh?” Xander answered.
“The ice off the mountain is falling! Do something!!” Nick shouted.
“Oh my god!” Chip puffed.
“I am doing something!” Xander shouted, as he finally got a hold of Vida’s waist, which was hard to hold on to, with her wings flapping.
“Get your hands off me right now!” Vida snapped and she elbowed Xander in his stomach.
“Fuck woman! If you haven’t noticed you just caused a snow storm! With us in the middle of it, and now there’s likely an avalanche, also with us in the middle of it!” Xander roared, as he got an extra rope he had in his pack and tied her to him.
“Shit!” Vida cringed, as her wings disappeared as quickly as they appeared earlier. “Oh Xander I’m so, so, sorry.”
“Right now, your apology isn’t going to work for anybody. Get my knife out of my pocket and cut the rope.” Xander ordered.
“Why? If I do that-”
“Just trust me will you?” Xander snapped as he pulled a small woolen sack out of his jacket.
“The hell are you doing with that?” Vida asked as she pulled his hunting knife out of his belt, and saw Xander produce a seed the size of an acorn. “We’re going to fucking die and you have a craving for walnuts.”
“If you’d all listen to me in the first place, we wouldn’t be here dangling off the side of a mountain. No we would be soaking up the sun, “
“Watching naked women-”
“No not just watching tinkerbell. Not just watching.” Xander growled in annoyance. Like she has any idea what I crave for. Hah! She’d run!
“Your such a pig!” Vida snarled.
“Yes so you say. But this pig is about to say your life!” Xander snarled in return. “Again!”
He quickly whispered a spell into large see and held it in from of her mouth.
“You want me to eat it?” Vida asked as the large seed glowed with green illuminate light.
“No! *sigh* V we have no time for games, blow the seed into the bloody mountain. I can’t plant it in ice. The power of your wind will get it to the earth beneath the snow, where it can grow.” Xander explained.
“Oh.” Vida responded as she took the seed, covered it with her fist and blew it out the other end of it. The seed shot off like a bullet.
“Hey! Come up with anything yet?! Chip asked and he gradually made his way up to Xanders feet, looking like a frozen tomato.
“I shot a seed into the side of the mountain.” Vida said grimly.
“Why is it you always doubt me in everything?” Xander asked truly wanting to know why Vida’s been so cross with him lately. She snaps at him for everything.
Vida was completely unprepared for that question. In truth she herself didn’t know why. She’s been a total bitch towards him for awhile now, and she couldn’t answer him. She looked to his face and he was looking to her for an answer.
“Um…Well you see.” She started.
“Save it.” Xander sighed heavily. “Won’t be long now, might as well stay all fired up. Surprised you lasted this long, being a fairy and all.”
“I am not a fairy!” Vida sneered. “Sprite, green man. A sprite.”
“Aren’t they all the same? Wee winged people. Like cousins?” Xander grinned.
“Xander you guys got something in the wood works here?” Nick asked as he climbed up next to them.
“Yes the snow is coming down harder, and boulders of ice are falling around us!” Madison puffed.
“Yeah, just waiting for you all to catch up.” Xander replied, as he send his power out to the seed to make it grow the way he wanted it to.
“Why couldn’t Nick just melt the snow?” Chip puffed.
“We definitely need to get to the cabins, so we can thaw out his brain.” Madison snorted.
Causing everyone to laugh, in mid laugh no one but Xander noticed the large roots growing out wildly and surrounding them.
“Here we go. Hang on folks!” He grinned, as the gigantic tree root grabbed and pulled them into the mountain.
