Chapter 1
The ancient floor creaked as Sookie paced back and forth through Gran’s kitchen. Her hand yanked open the fridge, only to slam it shut and hurry to the window. Her anticipation grew and her body was tense with anxiety. “Where are you Bill?!” she spoke out to the emptiness that surrounded her and plopped down at the oak table adorning the kitchen window. Three day old coffee rested on top of the hand written letter that Bill had left for her. She picked it up and scanned over it for the hundredth time. My dearest Sookie, I regret to leave you like this, but I have been summoned by the Queen. I do not wish to leave, but under the circumstances I have no choice. I only have your safety in mind and I will do what I need to in order to keep you safe. I cannot tell you any more, only that I must stay away for now. Please stay put. Do not come to find me. Do not ask questions, and try not to worry. I will be fine. Yours truly, Bill She let the letter fall back to the table and she rested her chin in her hands. Her mind was racing and her heart felt heavy with pain. Backing out from the table, she stood up and carried the weight of her body to the couch. Her legs gave out from under her and she fell backwards into the cloud of cushion. Her neck gave out and her head rested on the back of the sofa. Her eyes drifted shut and she felt herself drifting away. Just as she was about to lose herself, a rhythmic knock broke her trance. She lazily pushed her body up and out of her simple luxury. She dragged her feet to the door and pulled it open, expecting to see Jason crying to her for help with a new girlfriend. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, ready to kick her brother right back out. “Jason, I’m really tired and don’t have time…” Her sentence was cut off, “Good evening, Sookie,” a smirk played its way across Eric’s pale face, and his eyes danced down the length of Sookie’s body. She jumped back at the surprise and hugged her body close, feeling self-conscience of his critiquing eyes. Her cheeks felt hot and prickly, and she was well aware of the pink creeping its way onto her face. She bit down on her lower lip and stepped back another step. “What do you want, Eric?” Sookie shot him a glare and swallowed hard. He laughed at her attempt to seem tough, “Invite me in. ” Her eyes grew round and she slammed the door shut. He leaned his back up against the door and laughed again, “I would prefer to not wait here all night, but I will do so. I will also not be happy about it. ” “There is no way in Hell I would invite you in. Bill is gone and…” He cut her off mid-sentence again, “…and you need protection. ” “I do not!” She huffed and kicked at the door to reinforce her position. She heard a growl escape Eric’s mouth and she clenched her fists. “Sookie, I am not playing your childish games any longer. You will invite me in,” His voice struck her deep and she shivered as it pierced through her. He gave off a frightening aura and she didn’t trust him. She took in a heavy breath and reached for the door. She turned the knob and let the door open a couple inches. She stood up against the opening and looked out at him. He glared at her with his arms crossed tightly around his chest. She peered down at his feet and rolled her eyes at his newly cleaned Nike tennis shoes. Her gaze traced its way up his body and she laughed. He wore dark blue track pants that rested on his thighs perfectly. They clung to his muscles and she could see his body tighten. “I didn’t realize that I told a joke. ” His eyes never moved from her face and they burned straight through her. “Alright, alright, come in. ” “If you insist, Miss Stackhouse,” a sideways grin covered half his face and he guided his way through the door. He shut it tightly behind him and turned to face Sookie. Her heartbeat quickened and she felt her body grow tense. Her eyes quivered as Eric’s fangs released and he let out a low growl. Before she had the chance to move, Eric’s body was in front of her, pinning her up against the living room wall. He held her arms tight above her head and pushed his body up against hers. She couldn’t move and she could barely catch her breath. His breath was hot against her neck, “Don’t forget your place little girl,” His hands squeeze her wrists hard in a reminder and he pushed away from the wall. Tears lined the bottom of her eyes but she fought them back and made her way back to the couch. Eric strolled over to her and plopped down next to her. He looked at her deep and she watched his eyes turn soft, “Bill’s not coming back,” He leaned back and threw his hands behind his head. Sookie’s eyebrows cinched and she stood up, “What are you talking about? He is to coming back. He wouldn’t just leave me here. ” Eric’s long fingers stroked through the tangles in his hair and he placed his hand on her shoulder, almost tenderly. “You don’t have to believe me, but he left me a message,” He pulled a folded up piece of stationary from his jacket and handed it to her. She immediately recognized the paper and her eyes darted towards the kitchen, where her only notification from Bill sat. Her eyes scurried through the words and she rolled the paper up into a tight ball and through it hard. “I told you,” Eric nodded towards the floor. She couldn’t understand why he would leave her, but what she couldn’t understand more is why she wasn’t breaking apart. She was not sad over this, she was angry. Rage ventilated through her body and she let out a massive scream. She stood up and kicked over the small coffee table. She continued her rampage through the quit house, leaving a trail of pillows, paper, and mess. Eric watched, amused by her inner battle. A loud crash filled the walls within the kitchen and Eric shot up and ran to where Sookie was standing. A piece of broken wine glass was stabbing her in the palm and her hand dripped a stream of blood. She held her hand over the sink and jumped as Eric came up behind her. He took her arm and admired the cut. “It’s really deep. You will need stitches if you don’t let me heal you. ” He pulled the shard from her hand and she gasped in pain. Blood spit from the wounds and Eric ripped a small bit of his own wrist open. He heldit up to her mouth and forced it to her lips. She gurgled and pushed at his arm, pulling away. She watched him back away and he nodded towards her hand. Sookie watched as fresh skin covered her wound and healed her pain. She followed Eric back into the living room and stepped over the mess she left. She followed his lead and sat back down on the couch. “I’m sorry about that. I just…. well, overreacted,” a blush crept its way back to her cheeks and she watched as Eric just stared at her. “I won’t judge, I expected your reaction. ” He grabbed the balled up note off the ground and peeled it open. “According to this, Bill is offering you to me, in return for my word to protect you. ” Sookie’s lower lip quivered and she pulled her knees up to her chin, wrapping her arms around them. She hugged herself and let her hair fall over her face. She slurred something inaudible into her legs. “Speak up if you have something to say. I do not have time to decipher your mumbles. ” Her head shot up, “I said, don’t I have a choice!” She stared at him waiting for a positive response and his face remained unchanged. “No. ” “Excuse me?” “I will not repeat myself. ” “Well, then,” she huffed and stormed off the couch and out the front door, slamming it hard against the door frame. She heard the door open and Eric shot up behind her. He grabbed her wrist and dragged her back in the house without effort. He pushed her back to the couch until her body fell onto it. His fingers grabbed her arm and he growled at her, “I will not remind you again to remember your place. Do you understand?” Her body was tight and her heart pounded against her chest. She was sure he could hear it. “Yeah, O.K, now let go,” she pulled at her arm to free herself. His grip tightened around her wrist and he was bearing his fangs. “I asked if you understood. ” He repeated his question and his voice was like a knife ripping through her. “Yes…. I got it, I understand. Sorry. ” He snapped at her face and threw her body down so she was lying on her back, “You will address me with respect. When I ask if you understand, you answer with yes sir or yes Eric. I do not care which. ” His body straddled her and she could feel every muscle. She swallowed hard and took in a quivering breath. Her body was getting mixed signals. She was terrified but heat resonated from in her shorts and her body was tingling with arousal. “Yes Eric, I understand. ” He leaned in close to her neck and rubbed his nose against her skin, “You’re excited. ” He smiled and nibbled on her ear lobe. She wiggled her body and struggled to pull free. He sat up and slid off of her. “Go grab some clothes; we’re going to stay at my place. I can’t live here. ” He eyed the house as he said the last word. Sookie didn’t question him. She stood up and stormed up the stairs. She knew Eric could hear her grumbling but she didn’t care. She purposely took her time as she packed her clothes, hoping to irritate Eric in any way possible. She forced her body back down the stairs, dragging the heavy suitcase behind her. He stood up and walked over to her. He grabbed the bag from her hands and placed his free arm around her back, guiding her out the front door.===============================================
