He drove the burgundy Toyota Corolla to the underground parking garage at Union Station. As he circled around, searching for a parking spot, he glanced up in the rearview mirror. He hadn't seen anyone behind him, but that didn't mean he wasn't being watched. Parking the car, he reached into the back seat and grabbed the medium sized duffle bag. Exiting the car, he walked confidently into the Station.
Taking the escalator to the lower level he walked to the men's restroom. Secluding himself in a stall, he listened as several people entered and exited the restroom. After waiting fifteen minutes, he slowly removed his suit and tie. Reaching into the duffle bag, he dressed himself in a pair of faded, baggy blue jeans. He pulled a white t shirt over his head and covered that with a worn hooded sweatshirt, several sizes too big. The sweatshirt was plain, dark gray, no logos, no catchy phrases. He carefully packed his suit and the duffel bag into the worn backpack that had been folded up inside the duffel. He exited the stall and gazed at his reflection in the mirror. A three day growth of stubble covered his cheeks and his chin. It itched. He wasn't used to it, he was normally clean shaven. Shaking his head at his reflection, he covered his thick black hair with a dark blue baseball cap and covered his eyes with sun glasses. The loose clothing made him seem larger then his slim build. Swinging the backpack onto one shoulder, he left the restroom and made his way to the Marc Station. He glanced up as the Duffields, West Virginia station came into view. Grabbing the backpack, he shuffled to the front of the train and waited for the doors to open. Walking slowly, he wandered the streets of the small town until he found an open bar. Opening the door, he stepped into the dark, smoky interior. Despite the early hour, several of the bar stools were occupied. Late night workers from the overnight shift and blue collar workers grabbing a quick beer on their lunch hour. Settling himself on a bar stool, he glanced up and down the bar to determine the prevailing drink. "Budweiser" He responded, when the bartender asked his order. "Thanks." He said when the long necked bottle had been placed in front of him. Taking a long pull off the bottle, he reached inside the pocket of his sweatshirt and pulled out a pack of Marlboro Lights. Wait, he shook his head, not "lights" anymore "gold". He shook one out, lit it and took a deep calming drag. He hated that he had taken up smoking again. It had been so many years since he quit, right after he'd passed the bar exam. But the stress and the worry had driven him back to the comforting habit and it served well to round out his disguise. "'Nother one?" The bartender asked as he drained the last of the beer from the bottle. "Yeah. I'll have one more." He said, pulling a disposable cell phone from his pocket. He dialed a number from memory and spoke softly into the phone as his second beer was placed in front of him. Sipping his beer and smoking another cigarette, he carefully erased the number he had dialed from the phones memory. He turned to glance casually out the bar's front window. He was just taking the last swallow of his beer when the yellow cab pulled into sight. Standing up he reached into his jeans pocket and tossed two fives on the bar. "Thanks man. You have a good day." The bartender said as he cleared the empty beer bottle away. "You too." He called over his shoulder as he exited the bar and approached the cab. "Where to buddy?" The cabby grunted when he had settled into the seat and closed the door. "5579 Spectrum Drive, Frederick MD. It's a Holiday Inn Express." "You got it." The cab driver said as he guided the taxi into the street. After about 35 minutes, the man's heart began to pound and his palms began to sweat. He was almost there. Sitting up in his seat, he glanced out the front window. He could see the hotel sign in the distance. The cab driver pulled up in front of the hotel. The man glanced at the meter. $73.43. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out 4 twenties and a ten. Handing them to the cab driver, he thanked him and got out of the car. Taking a deep breathe, he pushed his way through the revolving doors and head confidently towards the bank of elevators. His hand trembled slightly as he reached out and pressed the button for the third floor. Looking to the left and to the right he strode down the hall and stopped in front of Room 3603. He knocked sharply and waited. A voice called from the other side. "Who is it?" "Me." He answered, wincing at the slight tremor in his voice. He listened as the numerous locks were disengaged. Then she was there, smiling up at him, pulling him into the room. "Hotch! You made it!"While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
