(A/N-Disclaimer- Disclaimer/Warning: This is an Alternate Universe version of a Fanfiction involving the Hannibal series, loosely based in a non-traditional omegaverse with a heavy dash of dark magic and a sprinkle of fantasy with a hefty dose of potentially relatable issues. There is heavy content in this story, there is mentions of religion. The story's depiction of religion is not an attack on any of the stated religions. Its just a story. Please bear with me as this is my first fanfiction since middle school and boy, the fanfiction world has really changed. Constructive criticism is welcome, assholery will be eradicated, poof..)
The sun had long since set behind the now dark horizon. Stars glittered like diamonds, a few twinkled at Alice reminding her of someone winking. A celestial wink, now that elicited a drunk chuckle from the young woman. That was a rare sound coming from her since Alice barely smiled, let alone laughed. It was at this point that Alice knew she was drunk, that meant it was time for phase two, her favorite part.
Alice pulled an old altoid container from her pocket flipping it open to reveal the multi-colored j’s she had rolled earlier in the day. Another smile tugged at her lips as she couldn’t remember which ones she had laced with a little extra good-good. It was going to be a more euphoric version of Russian Roulette but it was going to be just as short lived. Taking out the pink one with cherries on it Alice was brought to a momentary pause by the sudden gust of wind that howled through the old cemetery. It was mildly creepy, Alice believed in ghosts and she wondered if they knew why she was here. At least she hadn’t sat inside the cemetery, instead she had found a spot under an old oak tree. This was a good spot.
She couldn’t help but shiver though, the clothes Alice had worn were not appropriate for the late October chill, winter was coming early. Rubbing her arms Alice flicked the lighter jumping slightly, she wasn’t sure if it was the sound of the fire catching or the warm glow from the heavy dragon lighter. The fire was entrancing, Alice watched it sway a few more moments before using it to light the j inhaling deeply and holding it. The earthy citrus flavor was beautiful, the headrush was intensified by the copious amounts of alcohol. Alice would slowly blow the smoke out smiling as her head spun for several seconds before a calmness gently rolled through her. Alice repeated this process several times until she was bordering on faded. Leaning her head back against the trunk Alice temporarily forgot why she was even here. It wasn’t until she shifted, her foot having fallen asleep, that Alice was reminded by the rustle of pills in the bottle.
“Oh, yeah…” Alice pulled out the bottle of multi-colored capsules. “Last chance to give me a reason, Big Man.” No sooner were the words spoken a cat stalked out of the shadows, it was fluffy and from the looks of it, it was a torti, a pretty black one with half its face the color of pumpkin/caramel, “Oh this has to be a joke, I know the Big Man didn’t send you..” Alice laughed dowing the contents of the bottle followed by a water chaser, “I left that world behind kitty cat in hopes to follow the ‘right’ path and be a good girl, pfft..”
The cat would jump into Alice’s arms gently headbutting the woman causing her to let out the sweetest sounding laugh as she scratched it’s ears. The cat’s purr sounded like a car motor, “She wouldn’t let me keep you anyway, kitty. She prefers dogs and they’ll accuse me of witchy shit again. I’m.. not..” Alice was finding it hard to concentrate, to form a coherent thought, “supposed… to make waves..”
Her eyelids were growing heavier and heavier, her head spun just a little like she was slipping. The cat began to yowl loudly, Alice could feel its claws pricking and then scratching into her chest. She could also hear the sound of footsteps crunching lightly on the frost covered ground. She tried to open her eyes so she could focus on the man, for a moment Alice felt fear surge through her like a tidal wave. Was he the Shadow Man? No, no, he wasn’t, he lacked the orb.
“Are you Death?”
The apparition of a man seemed to contemplate his answer or was it her question that gave him pause? “To some.” His accent was nothing less than beautiful, foriegn but Alice couldn’t place from where, just that it made her smile. Fucking voice kinks. Her eyes would close again and her head would loll slightly to the side, she barely noticed when the man squatted down placing his fingers on her pulse. It was barely there, “What did you take?” He asked picking up the now empty unmarked bottle.
“My life.” Alice whispered as she slipped into the calm darkness.
