This is my first time doing stories on this website and I hope you enjoy my story, and I couldn't find where or how to add Chicago PD so if anyone can help get use to this app it'll be helpful thank you.
Erin and Justin are not actual siblings.
Erin sat at her desk, immersed in her investigation. She was searching for any trace of the suspects responsible for the brutal assault on Clifford's 15-year-old daughter and the similar attack on Tawny.
Frustration gnawed at her as she tapped her pen on the desk, her fingers scrolling through the computer screen.
The team had a single suspect, but evidence against him was scarce. He had been released from questioning at the district during Tawny's attack, providing him with an alibi.
Erin's gaze shifted from her computer to Mouse, who sat focused at his station, searching for digital clues or phone records to trace the suspects' movements.
Voight was absent, and Erin refrained from inquiring about his whereabouts. Antonio and Jay continued their search for leads, while Adam and Al assisted in the investigation.
"How's it going?" Erin asked as she rose and approached the young tech. The tech glanced up and sighed, "Not well. Haven't found anything yet." Mouse replied, reclining in his chair.
Erin offered a comforting pat on his shoulder. "It's okay. Everyone's struggling to find leads." She glanced toward the bullpen stairs, spotting Platt standing there.
Mouse's phone rang, and he answered, "Hello?" His brow furrowed as he received information that Tawny had been discharged from the hospital.
"Lindsay, Tawny just left the hospital," Mouse said. Erin frowned. "Why?" she asked before approaching Platt.
"They didn't specify," Mouse said. Erin nodded. "Keep searching for other leads," she instructed.
"Is everything okay, Trudy?" Erin asked the older woman as she approached. "Mr. Clifford is here to see you," Sergeant Platt replied before turning and heading downstairs, Erin following behind.
Erin turned back to Mouse. "Let me know if you find anything else," she said before following Platt downstairs to speak with Mr. Clifford.
Upon reaching the lower level, Erin spotted Mr. Clifford sitting on a bench. She approached him and greeted him with a simple, "Hi." The gesture prompted the man to rise and engage in conversation.
"Any luck in finding them?" Mr. Clifford inquired, his eyes flickering with hope that Erin and her team had apprehended the criminals. Erin shook her head regretfully, "Not yet, but we're not giving up.”
“When?” Mr. Clifford asked.
"I can't give you an exact time," Erin explained to Mr. Clifford, shaking her head. "But we've made significant progress."
"Was it someone who worked in our home?" Mr. Clifford asked, wondering if it had been an employee.
Erin shook her head again. "It doesn't appear that way," she said, looking at the concerned father. "Do you trust me, Mr. Clifford?"
"Yes, I do," Mr. Clifford said with a deep breath. He trusted Erin not only for her past help but also because he believed she would find a positive outcome.
"Okay," Erin said gently.
She patted Mr. Clifford's arm in support. "Go home to your family," she advised. "They need you now more than ever."
"I was right next door," Mr. Clifford said, berating himself for not being able to protect his wife and daughter.
Erin's frown deepened as Mr. Clifford lamented, "How could I let this happen to my daughter?"
"There was nothing you could've done," Erin consoled softly. "Now go home; your family needs you."
As Mr. Clifford exited the door, Erin turned to see Mouse peeking through the gate. "Detective, I've located Tawny."
"Excellent. Send me the address; I'll head there immediately!" Erin said, dismissing the concern on Mouse's face. He texted her the information, and she rushed out of the district, ignoring Platt's order to wait for Voight and the others. She couldn't bear the thought of delay.
Platt and Mouse exchanged worried glances. They both knew Voight would be furious when he discovered they'd allowed Erin to go alone without informing the team.
( Justin and Voight)
Justin stood outside the airport, eagerly awaiting his father's arrival. He had been communicating with Voight from the military for several days, requesting him to keep his return a secret from Erin. Justin intended it to be a surprise for the brunette.
He understood Erin's aversion to surprises, particularly when it came to significant events like his homecoming. With a deep breath, he watched as vehicles sped by. A smile spread across his face as his father's truck pulled up.
"Hey," Justin greeted, tossing his bag into the back seat.
"Why keep Erin in the dark about your return?" Voight inquired as he drove away from the airport.
"I wanted it to be a surprise," Justin replied, beaming. He had not seen her since learning about Nadia's fate and Erin's temporary relapse into her old habits. His primary concern was her well-being. Despite Erin's assurances that she was fine, Justin knew her well enough to be skeptical.
Voight nodded and drove to the district. "I hope you don't mind waiting until we wrap up this case. We need to go to headquarters so I can debrief with the team," he explained.
Justin nodded. "No problem, Dad. It'll give me time to figure out how to approach Erin." He was grateful that Voight was supportive, especially since Erin wasn't his biological sister.
The only other person who knew about his feelings for Erin was Nadia, but she had passed away, leaving Justin heartbroken and Erin mourning the loss of her young friend.
Voight had taken Erin in at the age of fifteen to protect her from her troubled upbringing. "Just don't make a mess of things, Justin," Voight cautioned. "I don't want either of you getting hurt."
Justin smiled and nodded. "Don't worry. I'd never do anything to intentionally hurt Erin, unlike those assholes she's dated in the past.”
Voight nodded, his gaze fixed on the road. "I know you won't harm her, just as she won't harm you. But take things slowly," he advised.
Justin stood by his words: he would never hurt Erin, unlike Charlie. He couldn't speak ill of Kelly or Jay, as they had done nothing to harm her. His concerns were solely with those who exploited Erin for drugs, sex, and more.
As his father parked the car, Justin gazed out the window, watching the city pass by. They exited the vehicle and entered the district, where Platt was barking orders at the officers.
Justin noticed Kim and Roman standing in line for their assignments. They greeted him and his father as they walked by. Justin frowned at the strange look Platt had given them.
"What was with that look Platt gave us?" he asked. Platt was known for her coldness, but this expression seemed unusual.
Voight shrugged. "The case we're on has been rough," he said. Seeing that was it, the two made it up to the bullpen to find everyone present except for Erin.
"Where's Lindsay?" Voight asked, striding to the front of the room with Justin behind. Justin had stopped near a spot where he wouldn't be obstructive.
"She went to speak with Tawny about her leaving Med early," Mouse answered from his desk.
Justin saw the flicker of confusion on his father's face. "By herself?" Voight asked, glancing at Jay since he was Erin's partner.
"I was out with Tony, pursuing leads," Jay explained. "I would have expected her to wait for one of us to return and accompany her."
"No, it's fine. Tawny's harmless, and she was a victim," Voight said, trusting Erin's ability to gather information. Perhaps it was preferable that she had gone alone.
Justin, however, disliked that his father didn't question further. He tried to suppress the uneasy feeling that was growing within him, but remained silent.
