Chapter 10
“What the fuck, Cas?” Dean asked, tone icy, glaring at the angel. The whole time, he was feeling panic run through his system. Sam knew what was going on and hadn't said a word? Oh, that didn't speak of fun playful puppies in the future! “He needed to know, Dean,” Cas told him simply. “Your behavior since returning from hell has not only confused him but has him very worried about you. Then there is what you've done with pulling back from him. He didn't know what to think. As he asked, I told him.” Scrubbing a hand over his face, Dean was actually shaking slightly. Glancing at the closed door to the hotel room, he had to wonder what was going on in his brother's head. Something, somewhere was seriously messed up here, well, besides the lecher angel and himself that is. Shaking his head, he said, “I can't handle this.” Turning to face his baby, he was fishing in his pocket for the keys when Cas' voice stopped him. “Why, Dean? It's what you want.” Cas asked simply. “Because he's my damned brother,” Dean hissed, spinning around to face the angel. “And that hasn't stopped the fantasies or you wanting to fulfill them. Nor did it stop you from picking up someone with the same name that looks like your brother, for just those reasons.” Cas stated simply. “That's my issue to deal with, Cas! I haven't involved Sam in it,” Dean snarled, eyes flashing. “Yes, you have,” Cas stated. “With the way you treated him, how you went about everything, avoided him, all of it, you involved your brother.” Snorting, Dean shot right back, “It didn't matter. He was all involved with whatever with Ruby.” “Ruby is long dead, Dean,” Cas told him. “Sam and I killed her. That's part of the reason Alistair is here. You made it very easy in assisting what she wanted to do, Dean.” Though not knowing exactly what the demon bitch had planned, Dean stepped forward and glared at Cas, “Don't even think to blame me for whatever that bitch was doing, Cas!” “You played right into Hell's plans, Dean. Same with Heaven's. Despite knowing better, you did that because you couldn't live without Sam. They knew you would and you let them. You can't lay all this on Sam either, Dean, not when you hold part of the responsibility for it.” Face going thunderous, Dean glared at Cas, grinding his teeth. The angel was right, though. Sam had made his choices and he had made his. They both had to deal with the outcome of them. So far, he just hadn't with part of his. Scrubbing a hand over his face, he shook his head then looked down. “Ruby is gone then? As in never to return.” “She's dead. Sam and I made sure of it.” Cas told him. “That's not the issue right now, Dean.” Well, really, Dean knew that. It was a no-brainer, as so many said. Shaking his head, looking down, he said, bluntly, “I can't do this.” “Why?” Cas asked, genuinely curious. “It's what you want, Dean. Well, the part with Sam. I will be involved of course, but you don't seem to find me objectionable.” Glowering at the angel, Dean said, “Because he's my damned brother!” “That hasn't stopped this from flourishing or making it worse,” Cas told him. “Many things both of you do, and have done in the past, are considered worse than a relationship such as that between the two of you. You love each other, there is no doubt there, and would do anything for the other. This falls into that area.” “Yeah, well, I don't want this kind of relationship with Sam, or you for that matter, just because it's something I want.” Dean shot right back, folding his arms over his chest. “I wouldn't offer such a thing just to appease you, Dean. Nor would Sam.” The angel told him softly, looking at him. “The commitment involved in this would take more to work than just wanting to do it only for the purpose of giving you something you want.” Staring at the angel, Dean tried to process what was just said. Cas was hard to decipher some times. This, though—it sounded like he was saying he wanted such a relationship, so did Sam. That made no form of sense. Scrubbing a hand over his face one more time, he shook his head. “I don't know.” “I don't understand,” Cas said, shrugging his shoulders. “This is what you want, Dean. You're being offered it. Why don't you take it?” That confused him, honestly. “Because of what it could mean for such much down the line,” Dean snapped at him. “Sam is my brother. Everyone knows what I feel for him. If I do this, it's going to change in a way that the other part can't ever come back.” “Your relationship with Sam has changed anyway.” Cas stated bluntly. “You've ensured that. The only time you seem to want to be around him is to avoid me. Any other time, you avoid him because of what you're dealing with. It seems that you only want Sam around anymore when you feel like it, not the way it was before. So, it's already changed, dramatically.” “This is different,” Dean mumbled, looking down, trying to think it over. “I don't see how,” Cas said, brow furrowed. “You know what Sam feels for you. That will never change. Ever. No matter how the relationship evolves.” Shaking his head, Dean ran a hand through his hair as he tried to work with this. A large part of him, a larger chunk than he was willing to admit to himself, wanted what was offered. Badly. “Dean, it's what you want,” Cas said, taking one step closer. Seeing the older Winchester stiffen up and look wary, he didn't take another. “I don't know if Hell implanted what is going on now. What I do know is that it was there before. This overriding need may be something they did, but they didn't create the want, the desire has been there all along. Even if they didn't, they're going to use it. Either against you or to manipulate Sam into doing what both sides want. If Hell knows, so does Heaven, Dean. Doing this could take the two of you out of their hands, on both sides.” Crossing his arms over his chest, Dean looked at the ground, thinking. It was easier for him to make a choice if he thought he was doing something for someone other than himself. That could make him feel like he was doing it for the 'right' reason, rather than for something he wanted. “It can stop it all?” Pleased he finally found the right way to go about this, Cas nodded. “There were only two people that could break the final seal; Sam was one. He was the one that Hell and Heaven, both, were counting on to do it. They were pushing him there the best way they knew how and it was working. He's no longer able to do that, I ensured it. That leaves you. It's not what the original plan was, but I believe you can also break that seal if it comes to it. If we take you out of the equation, there is no one left to do so. All the other seals can be broken, all six hundred plus of them, but it won't do any good until that final one breaks. I don't believe there is anyone other than you two that can do that. At least right now. In the future, yes, there will be someone. The being they call the anti-Christ already walks the planet. He's one, when older, that can do such a thing. Now, no.” Taking that in and thinking it over, Dean slumped a little. It was an out for him, that he knew, something that would give him what he wanted but allow him to shove the reason onto something else. Sighing, he shook his head and looked upwards at the sky. Really? The truth was he made the choice already. Somewhere inside him, he had already done that and knew it. However, he wasn't going to make it easy on himself, or anyone else, to admit that. “How would this even work? I don't share well, Cas. This includes sharing, for all three of us. You and Sam are already an item, apparently. I don't see either of you taking that well.” “I have no problem doing it,” Cas told him simply. “You would always be involved, no matter what, because of your relationship with Sam. It just adds another dimension to it for me, nothing more. Nor do I see that Sam has a problem with it. We've discussed it and he doesn't from what he says. I'm sure there will be problems at some point, but we can work with them.” This pleased him, greatly. Dean was going to agree. He just had to ease his mind. Looking at the older Winchester, he stated, “I don't have the same issues with jealousy that humans do, Dean. It doesn't matter to me. You and Sam may for a time, but it can be overcome. I know what is between you and took that into account before I even approached Sam the first time. You, both, have a way of working out your troubles between each other. This would just make that a necessity is all. We will be bound together for as long as we live.” Looking at Cas, eyes widening slightly, he took that last part in. “Bound? In what way? And why bound?” “It'll ensure I can always protect you both, from either side. It's like a--,” stopping, Cas frowned, trying to come up with the right way to phrase it, then said, softly, “spell of some kind. A very simple one. It ties the three of us together and allows us to know when one of the other needs them. Nor is it something either side can overcome, break or trick us into dissolving. It's just more protection, Dean.” Head lowering, Dean thought it over then shook his head, “Alright, let me say this; I'll agree. It isn't going to be an easy road here, Cas. Don't expect me to jump in with both feet, but I'll agree to try. However, before we try anything, I want to talk to Sam about this. His version of what is going on is something I want before anything else.” “Acceptable,”Cas nodded. “We can go do that now if you like.” Though not real sure about facing his brother at the moment, Dean gave a weary nod, slumping. Honestly? He wasn't sure how much more he could take of this mess. This—it was an out, he knew that, but he wasn't all that certain it was one he should take either. What could come of it would fuck things up for all of them for years to come if it went south. Not that their relationship wasn't already fucked up to start with, something like this would just make that all the worse. Looking at Dean, brow slightly furrowed, Cas then stepped closer. Putting his hand on the back of his head, the angel kissed the older Winchester again. This time, though, it wasn’t like those heated, lust inspired ones before, something he had wanted to use to push Dean in a certain direction. No, this was softer, more tender and meant to show affection, not the passion of the others. Breaking it off when he felt Dean stiffen slightly, he backed away, unlike he had before. Looking at him, he said, simply, “It's being done because I want to, Dean, and there is something there. Though it helps, that's the primary reason.” Lifting his head, backing away, he said, “Come. Let's talk to Sam.” Nodding to Dean, he turned then let himself into the hotel room, leaving the door slightly ajar as he did. Licking his lips, Dean shivered slightly. That kiss—it was different and, dammit, he liked it. Shaking his head, he scrubbed a hand over his face and sighed. No, he didn't need to think about that now. Instead, he had to face Sam. Unlike what Cas said, he didn't think this was going to be easy. Walking to the slightly opened door, he felt like he was on his last walk, sure something horrible was coming. Putting his hand on the knob, he stopped, tried to stiffen his spine and get himself under control to face his brother. Heart pounding, he opened the door then stepped in.
Sitting on the edge of the bed after yanking his boxers on, Sam was trying to get his still groggy, sluggish brain in gear as Cas was quickly filling him in on what had happened. Apparently, the plans they had made were playing out fine and Dean had agreed. All he wanted to do was talk to him about it. That Sam could handle, once he was functional that is. Taking a deep drink from the bottle of water he had on the bedside table, he was nodding as Cas talked then glanced at the door when he heard it open. Unlike most times, Dean didn't have his game face on. You could easily read that there was some trepidation there. That was understandable, of course, something Sam could appreciate. Finishing his drink, he sat the bottle back down then looked at his brother, smiling a little. “You wanted to talk to me?” He asked gently. Being confronted with Sam, the Sam that knew just what his problem was and about the desire that was there, was among the hardest things Dean had ever done in his life. Stiff, he walked over then all but dropped on the edge of his bed. Rubbing his face, he looked at his brother then said, “Your pervert angel there filled me in on everything.” Stopping, he saw Sam grin a little and looked at Cas who had his normal passive look in place, then he sighed. Shaking his head, he asked, “Is my stick up the ass, girly, prudish brother really willing to be involved with me and an angel in a threesome relationship?” Giving a snort at that, grin growing, Sam chuckled, shaking his head. “Dude, you have no clue, trust me. And, yes, I'm willing.” Brow furrowing slightly at what Dean said, Cas added, “That doesn't describe Sam well at all. He's not girly, prudish and I’ve not seen a stick anywhere close to his ass, let alone up it.” Snickering, still grinning, Sam explained to the always slightly befuddled angel, “Just a figure of speech, Cas.” Thinking that over, Cas nodded, though wondering about some of the visions that came from the stick up the ass part. Those were—interesting, to say the least. Grinning a little himself at Cas, Dean focused on Sam, then sobered up, “Your willing to do this because you want to? Not for any other reason?” “I am,” Sam told him with a firm nod. Shrugging, he said, “Dean, it's you. I'd do anything for you and you know it. This—well, I like the idea, alright? It works, so I can go with it.” Stopping, he looked at his brother then said, softly, “I certainly like it a helluva lot more than watching you tear yourself apart over it.” “It's been bad, I admit that,” Dean sighed, rubbing his eyes. Looking back at his brother, he said, “You're sure, Sammy? I mean, you know what's involved, right?” “I know, Dean,” Sam snorted, grinning a little. “I also know your reaction to some of what I've done. It's good, alright?” Looking at Cas, grinning bigger, he said, “If I can deal with him and some of what he does, I can certainly deal with you!” Looking somewhat smug, Cas said, tone level as it always was, “You don't ever complain.” “And I'm not now either,” Sam grinned. “It just took some getting used to.” Nodding, now understanding, Cas said nothing, looking at Dean. “Sam is willing, as I told you.” “And I never thought I would see the day that my brother decided to become a perv!” Dean chuckled. Looking at Sam, he asked, “You're sure? I mean, you know what I want as Cas apparently told you.” “I'm sure and I know, Dean,” Sam assured him, looking at his brother. “It'll take time to get over the uncomfortable parts, obviously, but it'll work. For all of us.” Nodding slowly as he looked at his brother, Dean then glanced at the angel that was looking at him. Right at this moment, he was hard as a rock and the traitorous part of his brain that had been heartily lobbying for this for a long time was cheering, demanding he do something. He ignored that though. It would come, especially since Sam had agreed and knew what he was getting into, but not right now. There was too much of a mess here for him to just jump into that part right away. Shaking his head, he looked down, shoulder slumping. “I can't believe I’m even talking about this with my brother and a damned angel.” “Yeah, well, it happens, Dean,” Sam said softly, looking at him. “Don't worry about it and we press on from here. It'll all just take some getting used to.” Stopping, he grinned again, looking at Cas, then said, hoping to lighten the mood slightly, “Especially dealing with Cas.” “You don't object and haven't,” Cas stated, looking at Sam. Seeing the grin there, he then nodded, understanding it was probably just some levity on the younger Winchester's part. “I don't,” Sam admitted, looking slightly smug. “Dude, it does take getting used to! I'm not at all used to someone manhandling me the way you do. Let alone being blindsided and pinned to the bed then kissed! I like it, I really do! It just takes time to get used to it.” Looking somewhat smug himself over that, now understanding, Cas nodded. Snickering a little over that vision, Dean shook his head. Somehow, it felt wrong to him. Cas was—well, he was very passive in so much. Especially in dealing with the areas they had to, wanting to let him take the lead and go about it his way. He was having a hard time envisioning Cas bodily doing anything to his ginormous brother. “Seriously? He does that?” Dean asked before he could think it over, grinning as he did. “Oh, yes!” Sam laughed. “His normal greeting? I hear a fluttering of wings then I'm pinned to the bed with his tongue stuffed down my throat.” Grinning, he said, “And I like it! Just took some getting used to was all.” Leaning against Cas, he looked at the angel, expression softening into a smile, he said, “I do like it. It's odd, not what I would ever have expected or thought would work, but it is, so I’m not questioning it.” “I gotta ask, cause, well, I want to know; who did what first?” Dean inquired looking at the two. Though it was funny, some of what Sam said, he could see that his brother did seem to really like Cas and there was something there from the angel's end as well. That told him this probably wasn't just about the sexual part, something he was still leery of. “I did,” Cas said bluntly. “I kissed him.” “Why am I not surprised?” Dean chuckled, shaking his head. “Yeah, he perfected the technique on me before he turned it on you,” Sam grinned. “You knew what he was doing then?” Dean asked, looking at his brother, though grinning a little still. “I knew,” Sam admitted. Shrugging, he said, “I gave him some pointers and pushed it from my end as well. We—you weren't going to listen if either of us just tried to talk to you, Dean. You were so far into denial and dealing with self loathing over it, you were more apt to start swinging than listen to either of us if we said anything. It's the only way we really knew how to go about getting you to where you would listen.”
