Chapter 10
Rory was thankful she woke up before her mom Saturday morning. She had a text from Dean saying to check the mailbox. Inside was a letter.
You already have a key to my heart, so it only seemed right that you had a key to
my place as well. Come by when you have a chance.
Taped to the bottom of the page was a brass key. Rory rubbed her fingers over it. They were moving so fast. They had only been back together for a few days and he already had given her a key to his apartment. All her memories of the first time they dated began to run through her head justifying it in some weird fashion. They hadn’t been dating for days, they dated for two years. They just took a break because of Jess. He was why they broke up. Because she had fallen in love with Jess while they were still together. And somehow Jess and Dean were... friends? No, friends was the wrong word. Something strange was definitely going on with them. Dom or not, Dean was going to answer some questions today. Slipping back inside she saw her mom was still sleeping. She got dressed and left a note on the coffee pot that she was hanging out with Dean and would see her later. About 15 minutes later she was standing outside of the apartment, key in hand. She reached out and almost knocked anyway. It felt weird just unlocking the door to someone else’s house with them inside it. But he had given it to her and the note made it seem like he wanted her to use it. Taking a deep breath, she put the key in the lock and gave it a twist. The bolt clunked allowing her to open the door. The place was silent, plastic bags with random items seemed to be scattered around the living room and kitchen. “Huh, they must have gone shopping.” she muttered, closing the door behind her. She walked to the bedroom and stepped inside. Her mouth dropped open yet again at the sight before her.
Dean and Jess were in bed together. Not just sharing the bed, but sharing each other’s space. Jess’s head was on Dean’s chest, an arm wrapped around his waist. Dean also had his arm wrapped around Jess holding him there. Rory felt like she was intruding on a private moment and wasn’t sure how to proceed. Glancing at the clock it was a little after 9 in the morning, was it too early for her to be here? She began to tiptoe backwards, planning on sneaking back out of the house, when her foot landed on something other than the floor. The box shifted throwing her off balance and crashing her to the floor. Dean and Jess both leapt to their feet ready to defend themselves from the intruder.
“uh , hi guys…” Rory stammered scanning the two men who at once came over to help her to her feet. “Sorry for the rude awakening. I didn’t realize you all were still asleep so I was trying to sneak back out. You see how well that went.” She reached up as each man wrapped their hands around her arms lifting her to her feet. That’s about the time she realized they were both in their underwear. Blushing profusely, she stared at the ceiling.
“Is there something wrong with my ceiling?” Dean drawled.
“Um… no not particularly. Just trying not to stare.” Dean pulled her into a deep embrace, making her heart stop. He stared lovingly into her eyes.
“There is absolutely no reason to be embarrassed right now.” Dean said smiling. “I think we should all chat.”
“Oh, okay” she stammered, stealing a glance toward Jess who was just standing there smiling at them. She pulled her eyes away from him back to Dean’s face still blushing.
“You can be tied to my bed and brought to a climax and be okay, yet we can’t just stand here without bothering you.” Dean let her go chuckling. Rory’s eyes widened further in shock as Dean nodded his head to Jess gesturing to some clothes on the floor. Rory just stared at them, still not believing her eyes. That’s when she saw the passing moment between the two men. Jess had placed his hand on a shirt and Dean gave the tiniest of a shake no and Jess pulled back leaving it there. The sun shined in the window causing a glare on something around his neck. He has the same collar as her! How had she missed that before? She had been pretty focused on Dean the other night, still that was a pretty big thing to miss. When both men had pants on they strolled toward Rory, Dean first with Jess behind. Dean walked right past Rory and out into the living room. Rory turned and followed Jess out of the room. Dean had sat at the kitchen table and gestured for them both to sit.
“Like I said before, we have a lot to talk about.” he started, “as you both know, I am a Dominant and enjoy power shift relationships. From the other night, it should be obvious that I have started such relationships with both of you. It is not something I planned, but it is what happened.” Rory’s vision tunneled, the sound of Dean’s voice faded as pain seared into her chest. Something was tugging on her arm, sluggardly she turned toward it and saw a hand on her arm. With all her might she looked up and saw Jess standing there. His mouth was open and he looked upset, but no sound came from him. She focused on his mouth, she began to hear a whisper of sound… what was it?
The sound finally pierced her ears, “Rory! Rory!” he was shouting. Slowly her senses came back to normal, the darkness lifted and she could see Jess standing on her right holding her arm still, with Dean on her left, stroking her other one. Gasping she took a ragged breath, and the pain subsided.
“Rory are you okay?” Dean asked, kneeling down to her. “You completely freaked us out. It was like you passed out without actually passing out or something.”
“Yeah, I think so.” She whispered, her voice sounded tight and irregular. “I don’t know what happened, you were talking, then everything went silent, and my vision blurred. My heart hurts, it was beating so hard.”
“Whatever it was, you are okay now. We are here.” Jess voiced, trying to sound reassuring.
“So…,” she began, “You two are a couple?” She sounded out these words slowly and carefully. Not believing her own words. The boys glanced at each other.
“I don’t know if we would call it that,” Dean stated. “This is how I see it, you and I are a couple. We love each other and that is the base of our relationship. On top of that, I am your Dom; you submit to me. On the other hand, I am also Jess’s Dom now.” He looked up at Jess, Rory following his gaze. Jess’s face was hard to read. But she knew that look all too well. He was hurting, something in what Dean had just explained hurt him in some way. He shook his head some relaxing his face and gave Rory a sly smile nodding back to Dean. When Rory returned her attention back to Dean he continued. “While you are both my subs, it’s different. Does that make sense? I know it’s a lot.” He took a long pause before adding, “and I’ll try to understand if it’s too much.” He grazed his fingers along her collar sending shivers down her spine.
It hit her suddenly what he had just said, as panic gripped her. She shot her hands out grabbing his, “No! No, it’s not too much. I just,” she glanced at Jess “I just need more time to process this.”
Dean smiled at her, “Of course, would it help if you two have some time on your own?” motioning to the two of them.
“Um…. maybe?” she wondered aloud. Honestly time alone with Jess was one of the last things she wanted. But maybe it needed to be done.
“Okay, I am gonna run to Luke’s and grab some food to go. Given that it’s a Saturday morning that should give you all around 40 minutes or so to chat and figure out how okay with this you are. I really want this to work. I love you Rory, but I also care for Jess now.” With that he walked out the door and they were alone.
Rory stood suddenly, running to the bathroom. She barely made it before what little was in her stomach was unexpectedly in the toilet. Jess was on her tail, and held her hair, and rubbed her back. When Rory was certain it had passed she leaned back into Jess. She melted into his warmth finding her old mold so easily; feeling good from his fingers stroking her arm slowly. All at once she realized who she was laying on and shot to her feet again, grabbing the sink as she wobbled uneasily.
“Woa, Rory chill. You need to stay calm.” Jess commanded.
“No Jess!” She turned on him. “You don’t get to tell me what to do! You don’t have that right!” She stormed out of the bathroom with Jess on her heels. She stomped into the living room turning back onto him again. “You left, you ditched me without even saying goodbye. You wait a year Jess, a whole freaking year without a word. Not counting the calls of course. Yes I know it was you!” she shrieked as bewilderment shown across Jess’s face. “I know you were the one that kept calling but refusing to speak to me. Who else would it be? Then you show back up? You just show up one day and profess your love to me? Ahhh!” She yelled, pacing the living room. “And then!” She rebound shoving a finger in his chest, “then before I can do ANYTHING you leave me. AGAIN!” She stormed off past him into the bedroom. Jess wasn’t behind her as she fell on the bed. The wound of their breakup had been reopened, fresh air exposed the infection that had spread through her body. She shook as she cried. Hands touched her arms gently, she could feel as Jess laid in bed next to her, pulling her into his arms.
“I’m sorry,” he whimpered into her ear. “I am so sorry Rory.” She turned into him and looked into his eyes, they were wet with tears. She ran her fingers through his messy black hair, and then her lips were on his.
Before, kissing had been one of the things they were really good at. Despite their ability to debate writers and books for hours, kissing was what they were best at. Now was no different. Time faded, they were 17 again all was right in the world. Rory's head swarmed. She couldn’t think, she couldn’t form words, all there was, was Jess. She pulled him closer in, their bodies touching. Like a shot, Jess suddenly pushed away and lept out of the bed, staring at her like she had just stabbed him. Before Rory could react he bolted from the room. Rory chased after him and found him pacing in the living room.
“This is not good,” he repeated again and again. “This is not good!” He turned to her. “What the hell just happened?”
Rory was frightened. The weight of what she had just done came crashing over her like a landslide. “Dean..”
“Yeah! Dean! FUCK!” he bent and punched the ground with a deafening thud. “Ow! Fuck!”
“Jess!” Rory cried and ran to him. She reached for his hand and he jerked it away.
“No. You sit over there in the corner. I’m gonna sit over here across from you. Neither of us are going to get up from that spot. Got it?” Rory nodded walking to where he pointed. As she sat down, so did he on the other side of the room. “We are going to finish talking like adults. Then when he gets back we are going to tell him what happened.”
“But Jess!-”
“No! We are telling him and we will accept whatever he says. We are not…” he sighed looking out the window. “We are not a couple” he choked, “we cannot be doing that.”
Rory only nodded. She knew Jess was right. But that didn’t make it any easier. They sat in silence again for a while. “So, can you explain your side to this? It really doesn’t make sense to me.”
Jess remained quiet for a while. Rory found him trying to find the correct words. “I’m not sure how best to explain the beginning. I wasn’t exactly a willing participant.” This hit Rory like a ton of bricks.
“Wait, are you telling me that he held you captive here?”
“I wouldn’t put it that far,” Jess lied. “But there was some arm twisting, that's for sure. But after a little bit of time with Dean, I realized how freeing letting go was. When Dean is in control, I don’t have to worry about my past. I’m not held back by those who hurt me...or those I hurt.” his voice trailed away.
Rory nodded, “I think I understand. The first time Dean and I did anything, I was scared out of my mind.” She smiled at the memory, “But I knew I trusted him, he led me to a place where my mind was at ease, I didn’t have any worries, all that there was, was him.”
“Yeah,” Jess smiled. Rory leaned back against the wall taking the sight in. Jess smiling, truly smiling was a sight to see. “So, have you read any Hemingway lately?”
Rory rolled her eyes, “Is that seriously your segway? Hemingway?! Ugh, you never change.” With the tension broken, they chatted away catching up on authors that the other had been reading lately. Before they knew it the deadbolt clunked and Dean walked in with bags of food. He looked at the two, still in their separate corners and sighed obviously feeling the tension in the room.
“What happened?” He walked in and sat the food down in the kitchen. Jess rose closing the front door then sank to his knees kneeling in front of Dean. Rory couldn’t deny how much Jess’s entire essence shifted as Dean stood over him. Dean shot a look at Rory. She covered her mouth with her hand, a single tear running down her face. Dean looked back at Jess, with growing anger in his body. “What happened?” He hissed.
Jess lowered himself further, “I’m sorry sir, I don’t know what happened. We were talking, and she got upset. I tried to comfort her, and suddenly I kissed her. I stopped as soon as I got a hold of myself!” He raised his head looking into the eyes of his Master, tears running down his face. Rory could see, sadness yes but something else, suddenly it dawned on her, shame. Jess was ashamed.
“Wait!” Rory felt herself call, she raised up and walked next to Jess. She lowered herself, trying to match his pose, glancing at him to match it exactly. “Wait, please. He is trying to spare me. It was me. I’m the one who kissed him. He’s the one who pushed me away and told me that it was wrong. And he was right, I’m so sorry Dean.” Fire flew from Dean’s eyes as she lowered her head. “I’m sorry sir.”
“You will be.”
