Garak sighed and scooped Julian up, tossing him over his shoulder to carry him up the stairs. He really ought to eliminate the doctor. He had just tried to shoot him, and he had stolen a weapon. He was a dreadful prisoner, but a fascinating being.
He dumped Julian on the bed and sighed, looking him over. He pressed a hand to the human's throat. He massaged it softly before exerting pressure on the carotid arteries. He moved his other hand to the back of the doctor's neck. He could end his problem. Just a flick of the wrist...But the doctor was far too lovely and so much fun and so interesting. He had not had this much fun or mystery in years.
Garak slid his hand back to card through the doctor's hair.
“I regret what you've forced me to do, Doctor. You know I would be so gentle with you. But you insist on being difficult.” Garak lifted up a pillow and pulled out a pair of hand restraints. He attached Julian's hands in them, binding him through the bars of the old style Cardassian bed frame.
Julian groaned.
“I would rather be your lover, not that I would not tie you up then as well...but you insist upon your stubbornness, which is also lovely. I must do what I must.”
Garak pulled a chair over so he was seated at the end of the bed, holding the phaser that Julian had tried to use on him earlier. He began taking it apart.
“So we're back to this?” Julian asked, opening his eyes. He groaned at the pain in his chest.
“Did we ever really move beyond it?”
“I suppose you're right,” Julian tugged at his bonds, trying to pull himself up. He shook his head. “That really stings.”
“It's a phaser. It's supposed to be unpleasant.”
Julian rolled his eyes behind closed lids. This was ridiculous. He should have seen this coming. He should have made Garak keep his hands in his lap. Damn Cardassian obfuscation. Small favors that the Cardassian had not shot to kill.
“Now, I have the high ground, Doctor.”
“Ha-ha,” Julian said, wincing at the pain.
“Shall I tend to you, Doctor?” Garak asked, holding up a container of skin cream.
“You could let me do it myself.”
“Isn't there some rule about doctors not treating themselves?” Garak asked, setting part of the phaser on the nightstand and sitting next to Julian, opening his shirt.
“Only about prescription medications.”
Garak opened the skin cream and dipped some out with two fingers.
“Since you are all tied up, you might as well listen.” Garak rubbed cream onto the slight burn from the phaser. “First, I see that you could be valuable for the foreseeable future to me.”
Julian shifted, watching Garak. What did that mean? How was he valuable?
“Secondly, it is clear that you know more about me than I realized. My best option would be to kill you.”
“Garak...I would never hurt you.” Julian said, staring at the blue eyes though they were not looking at his. It surely would not come to that, would it? He could not kill Garak. Garak was critical to the future.
“Which is why you were pointing a phaser at me earlier this evening, and making demands of me. I must say that was invigorating. I've not had so much fun in years.”
“Garak, please.”
Garak lifted his hand for silence. He rubbed the cream onto the burn, massaging it into the skin. He put the lid on the cream.
“I don't want to kill you, Doctor.”
“Glad to hear it,” Julian said, pressing back on the mattress.
Garak puttered around the room, putting the cream away.
“There are two possibilities.” Garak said, cleaning the phaser parts and placing them on a cloth on the bed. “You are from a different time. Or you are surgically altered and have been assigned to eliminate me, probably by Central Command. A grave error on their part. The latter seems a more likely scenario. However, your DNA reads as completely human. Curious.”
“I would never hurt you. I don't care what you've done, or what you do to me. I won't hurt you.” Julian stood, reaching out to touch Garak. “Please, I would never let anyone hurt you if I could prevent it. That is what it means when I say you are my friend.”
“Don't think I forgot or forgave you for stealing the phaser and pointing it at me,” Garak cupped Julian's chin, lifting it. He rubbed his fingers over the skin.
“I set it to stun, down from the maximum that you were going to point at me. It would not have hurt you, and I would have taken care of the burns. It was not what I wanted. But you have to believe me.”
“Small favors,” Garak said, but he smiled. “Killing me would not help you get the Orb of Time...if that is what you want. Your actions have spoken loudly to me, Doctor.”
“It is what I want. It can send me back where I belong. Why didn't you kill me?” Julian asked, looking up as Garak sat next to him on the bed.
“That's the problem with your species, Doctor. You don't appreciate a good mystery.”
“I'm lucky to be so enigmatic.”
Garak chuckled darkly, nodding his head.
“I think you will prove most useful with my assignment. How fortunate for us.”
