Chapter 12
Getting Grounded Is Never Fair
April 13th 2006 3:00 p.m.
Outside the Without Name Awakening
“Where are we going mom?!” the twins asked, startled.
“Home!”
“Why, and what was with that announcement that you just made?” one of the twins asked.
“I’ll tell y’all when we get home, right now I have questions for you and your sister. Now get in the car.” Emily said with disappointment and walked around to the driver’s side and got in. When she turned on the car she noticed that the music wasn’t on like it always is. Once everyone was in the car with their seat belts buckled she asked, “Would one of y’all mind telling me what you guys were talking about on your way here?”
“Mom, we didn’t talk about anything.” One of the twins answered, confused.
“Sorry Abbie, I wasn’t talking to you.”
“Why?” Sara asked.
“My sister always turns off the music when serious shit comes up, but no biggy.” Emily said simply, shrugging her shoulders.
“Well when you left in such a hurry saying that you had kids…” Fin started.
“Twins,” John corrected.
After giving his partner the evil eye he tried to continue, “We had questions…” and then was interrupted again by John, much to his displeasure.
“Like ‘why did you have kids so young’…”
“And she answered them.” Fin finished.
“Is that it?” Emily asked.
“Yeah, that was it.” Greg admitted.
Emily nodded and then turned to look into the rear view mirror to catch her daughter’s eyes, “Well, when we get home I want you girls to head straight to the library so I can explain what is going on to our guests at home, then we’re going to have a serious talk, understand?” she asked in her no nonsense tone.
“Yeah, whatever. Where’s our dad?”
“Please don’t bring your father into the conversation Ariel. I’m so mad at him I could spit nails. Did you know that he tried to kill me today?!” Emily exclaimed.
“He WHAT?!” Abbie and Ariel asked in unison.
“Yeah, so I really don’t want to talk about him right now.” Emily paused to heave a big sigh. Please let this be simple, Emily prayed. “Now, back to the problem at hand. Abbie where did you get the crystals?”
Abbie stayed silent with a stony look on her face.
Catherine raised her hand, feeling like a student asking permission to speak. “Uh, may I make a suggestion Emily?”
“Yes Ms. Willows?” She answered with a sigh.
“She probably doesn’t know what you’re talking about since all you said were ‘crystals’. You could have asked with the full street name for it instead…” she said quietly. Catherine hated getting into the middle of parenting, she wouldn’t have appreciated it either, but either way from the looks both Abbie and Emily were giving her it wasn’t wanted. Oops…
“Excuse me, Miss-whoever-you-are, I do know what my mother is talking about. I was just refusing to answer her.”
After Abbie said that the adults in the back of the car looked to see what Emily’s reaction would be and they all could see her jaw clichéd and twitching madly. “Oh okay, just for that…”
“Wait mom…” Abbie started to say, knowing she was in deep shit now.
Emily shook her head, her jaw clinched again. She was sick and tired of people walking all over her and telling her what to do, especially her own daughters. Nope! Not gonna happen anymore! “NO! Just for that last comment I’m going to have you training with the rest of our guests. I mean everything, along with teaching them how to fight demons with and without powers. You’re also going to be in the library teaching them how to identify them. You and your sister are going to spend the next few days training and teaching.” Taking a second to look in the back seat at Ariel she added, “Oh, don’t think I forgot about you Ariel! What were you thinking getting drunk like that?! Do you know the cops could have had you arrested for underage drinking! You’re lucky that I didn’t call them myself, and have the cops take you in, considering that they couldn’t because it is out of their jurisdiction!”
“Mom, you are so unfair! I hate you!” Ariel screamed.
“Yeah, and I bet that when you were our age that you were doing the same thing!” Abbie snarled.
“Actually when I was your age I was being beat to shit!” Emily gasped, covered her mouth with her hand. I can’t believe I just said that, rolling her eyes, she continued to doll out another punishment to her oldest twin, Abagail. “Well, just for that little comment, you young lady are grounded! All school and studying and while you’re not helping your sister teach our guests you will be in your room. That means no hanging out with your friends. YOU, Abagail Christen, are now grounded for a month after you get done teaching! We will talk about this when we get home, and if you continue to yell and make smart ass remarks I’ll keep adding more time to your punishment, so you better just stay quiet. You will also apologize to Ms. Willows.”
“I’m sorry Ms. Willows.” Abbie muttered.
“It’s okay, apology accepted.” Catherine said with a nod to Abbie.
With that out of the way, Emily turned the music back and started the C.D. over again and listened to it the rest of the way home while off in in her own little world. She didn’t hear one word of Abbie running her mouth at her mom and Ariel begging her to stop.
Noticing Greg, who was smiling at the scene, Nick nudged him, “Why are you smiling?” Nick asked.
“You know,” Greg started to whisper as he leaned towards his best friend Nick, “I would say something to those kids but it seems that Emily has already taken care of it.” Greg decided that enough was enough, that he was tired of hearing the twins bicker back and forth so he decided to get the twins attention and introduce himself. “Hi, my name is Greg Sanders, what are your names.”
“My name is Ariel and this is my older sister Abagail.” Ariel answered while she briefly pointed to her older sister that was sitting next to her.
“So why exactly are all of y’all here?” Abbie asked, crossing her arms over her chest.
“Well, you know the announcement that your mom made at the club about the new Source trying to take over the world?” Goren asked.
“Yeah, there’s talk about that all the time. What makes this any different?”
“Phoebe Halliwell, one of the Charmed Ones, had a premonition of the world ending and demons taking over the world.”
“You seem to know everything Mr. Assassin. So you’ve come to San Antonio to save the world. That’s very bold of you considering that you’re a wanted demon.” With that statement Abbie could see…is that fear in his eyes? “Don’t worry, I ain’t gonna say anything.” She said quickly
“Thanks.” Goren muttered
Deciding that there needed to be a change of subject, besides the doom and gloom that seemed to fill the car, Greg spoke up. “So you girls have some real talent. Where did you learn to sing and play guitar?” Greg asked.
“Our mom. Even though she might keep secrets from us she can still rock the stage when she wants to.” Ariel answered with a sly smile.
“Yeah, and our aunt Kristina is a Record Producer and she writes some pretty good songs as well as mom. Aunt Kristina has a partnership with us for managing our band, and she also taught us how to play the piano as well.” Abbie added.
“Your aunt plays piano too?” Warrick asked, finally getting interested in the conversations that were going around.
“Yeah, and she is pretty bad ass at it too.” Ariel answered.
When Emily suddenly turned off the blaring music and brought the car to a stop everyone looked around to see if they were there yet, only they weren’t. Something was wrong.
As soon as Emily was out of the car she ran to a nearby bush to start vomiting. There was a sharp pain in her abdomen and she feel to her knees as another wave of nausea washed over her as she emptied her stomach along with some blood. As another sharp pain struck her it felt like someone was tearing apart her insides. Emily wrapped her arms around her sides and screamed in pain as she closed her eyes. She started to rock herself back and forth and didn’t notice her daughters and a few other people from the car come out to support her.
“Mom, what’s wrong, are you sick?” Abbie asked worriedly
“Honey, mommy’s pregnant…” Emily managed to say before another vomit attack hit. She could feel a large hand rub her back but with the amount of pain she was in and the dizziness she felt she couldn’t feel who it was, considering that took concentration.
“Mom, I don’t know how you could be pregnant, you haven’t even been with anyone since dad right…?” Ariel asked. If her mom hadn’t been with anyone willingly, then that could only mean one thing…
All Emily could do is nod her head. The sharp pain struck again and again, while Emily screamed as she put her head between her knees.
“What’s wrong with her Catherine?” Greg asked pulling away from Emily.
“I don’t know, what I do know is that she needs to see a doctor NOW! I think that the cut to her abdomen could have gone deep enough to cause some damage to the uterus and the fetus, since Kristina said herself that she can’t heal the fetus.” Catherine answered with a sigh and walked back to the group, turning her attention to Emily. “Okay honey, we need to get you to the house and call your doctor, so let’s get you into the car.” Putting one arm around Emily’s waist and the other hand on her elbow, Catherine helped Emily into the back of the car with everyone else.
“What’s happening to my mother?” Abbie asked.
“A premonition that your mother had earlier is having some after affects. Emily, I’m going to sit here with you while Greg drives OKAY?”
As soon as the girls were in the car Emily started screaming as if her life depended on it.
Greg ran as fast as he could to the other side of the car, got in, shut the door while turning on the car. Putting it in drive he asked, “Which way?”
“STRAIGHT! WHAT’S HAPPENING TO ME?!” Emily screeched.
“Emily, screaming isn’t going to make the pain go away. You have got to steady your breathing, remember?? In through your nose and out your mouth.” Catherine said patiently. Suddenly she saw blood coming from Emily’s crotch and flowing slowly down her legs. She knew that if Emily didn’t get help soon that she and her child would die.
As if in answer to her prayers they finally pulled up into the drive way.
“Warrick, grab Emily, Nick take her pulse! She is bleeding from the inside, and she’s going t0 lose the baby if we don’t get to that Whitelighter soon.” Catherine commanded as she opened the car door. The men did as they were told and hurried up to the house. The twins were in tears when Greg got to them and the rest of the group assuring them that Emily would be okay.
As the group ran up the stairs, Leo opened the door to let them in. “Kristina told me that Emily was in trouble. What happened to her??” Leo asked wildly.
“Quit asking fucking questions and heal her!” Greg snapped impatiently.
Warrick quickly put Emily on the couch and Leo moved over to her, putting his hands over her abdomen. A similar yellow glow spread over her.
“Leo, what’s taking so long?” Piper asked.
“It’s not working, we’re going to have to take her to the hospital.”
“Then you’re orbing because she doesn’t have long.” Phoebe added
“I’m going with you and so are her daughters.” Greg said holding back tears. Picking up Emily’s limp bloody body he walked over to stand by Leo and the girls. Abbie, Ariel and Leo placed their hands on Emily and with a swirl of white lights they were gone.
