Liam woke just before sunset. He blinked, staring up at the ceiling for a moment before stretching and sitting up. Being in a bed rather than a hospital room or the cramped back seat of a car, that was nice. He finally willed himself to get up and go to his bag that he’d sneaked out of the car while Dean was in the kitchen with Natalie the night before. Of course, he had also overheard their conversation, which in turn gave him a lot to think about. Eavesdropping was not a nice thing to do, but he couldn’t help it. Dean’s violent reaction to a simple kiss already had him wondering. It was just all too easy to tip toe silently through the house and stand around the corner down the hall. Missy was right, with his hearing, he did hear everything. As to what he’d heard, well, now he knew he was under Dean’s skin, and that was why the guy was acting so touchy around him. He didn’t exactly know what he was going to do with the information yet. Hell, he wasn’t even sure how he felt about Dean. He did know the hunter was definitely under his skin as well. Despite him trying like hell to fight it, history was beginning to repeat itself.
He dressed in black slacks and a purple t-shirt before making his way downstairs. Dean, Sam, and Natalie were in the formal dining room, Sam in front of his laptop and papers strewn everywhere. “Look who finally decided to join the living,” Dean looked up when he entered the room. Liam met the hunter’s gaze, his own questioning. Dean very quickly looked away and pretended to be busy with some papers. Interesting.
“Morning to you too, sunshine,” Liam smiled.
“Hey, Liam,” Sam greeted him from behind the laptop monitor. “We’ve been working on your case pretty much all day. Natalie actually had a suggestion we wanted to run by you. Since you, you know, burn in the sun unless covered by something, she thought maybe we should only travel at night and stay in motels during the day to make things easier for you.”
“Being under that heavy blanket all day doesn’t sound too comfortable,” Natalie nodded.
“But it would slow us down,” Dean pointed out. “Only travelling at night, I mean, that’s... less travelling time.” Dean still wouldn’t look at him.
Liam let the idea tumble around in his mind. Why didn’t Dean like the idea? “It would definitely make things easier on me,” Liam agreed. “And probably you guys too. While driving in shifts is time saving, you can’t argue it would be nice to stop and rest in an actual bed. Plus, it’s not like we have an actual deadline, and I don’t have anyone that loves me. No rush there.”
“Then it’s settled,” Sam nodded. “We’ll stay here tonight again so that we have our ducks in a row, and we’ll leave tomorrow night. Also, Patrick offered to let us do the ritual here, so we were thinking of going to the furthest point first, and working our way back here.”
“Makes sense,” Liam said as he sat himself down in one of the chairs near Sam so he could see what the guy was working on.
“Yeah, so, I found the Chalice of Restoration in a museum in Portland, Oregon. That’s the furthest point, and it’s going to be the hardest to get. That’s where we should go first. Then I was thinking we’d go to Bobby’s because he has the rest of the stuff we don’t have. After that, some rich guy bought our Act of God on an online auction in Macon, Georgia. Then we’ll have everything and we come back here.”
Liam listened to the plan. It all sounded reasonable. “And then we wait for love to strike.” That actually seemed like it was going to be the hardest part, not getting the chalice. It was something he couldn’t control, and it may never happen. Alice always seemed to know what she was talking about somehow, but it made Liam’s guts twist.
Natalie was watching Dean and trying not to smile. Something was going on in the hunter’s mind that was very entertaining. At least Liam knew his thoughts were safe, only until someone fell in love with him and did the ritual. He was the only one who knew he was developing feelings for Dean.
“I appreciate you guys working so hard on this,” Liam said truthfully. “Do any of you mind if I go out and wander around? Maybe I’ll get lucky and be on the receiving end of love at first sight.”
Dean looked like he was trying to think of a reason, but none were coming to mind. “Just follow the rules,” he said finally. “We’re trusting that you will.”
“Of course I will,” Liam reassured them. “See you later, Mom and Dad,” he mused before getting up to leave. Either what he said or something in the minds of one of the brothers made Natalie laugh. Being around a mind reader was weird. You could never tell what they were reacting to.
The vampire had to walk down the deserted street because he couldn’t drive, not that Dean would likely let him anywhere near his baby anyway. That really limited him to where he could go, but the fresh air and alone time would be good for him. Dean’s revelations caused him to have his own, which stirred up a whole giant mess when he already had possibly becoming human again finally on his plate.
He walked aimlessly until he came across a night club. The flashing neon sign read ‘The Bloody Mary’. A wide grin appeared on his lips. There was no doubt in his mind what kind of club this was. This was his kind of place. His attire wasn’t gothic, which was usually the theme of such places. Still, it couldn’t hurt to go in and unwind a little, could it?
Just as he thought, a woman was standing just inside the door wearing a skimpy black dress. Death metal was blaring out of speakers on the wall. A crowd of people also wearing all black filled the place.
“Vamp or doll, handsome?” the woman inside the door asked.
“Definitely vamp,” Liam answered, and she took a round black sticker off a roll, sticking it to his shirt by his collar. “I’m new in town, so are there any guy dolls around I could play with?”
“Welcome to Memphis!” she gave him a bright smile, then pointed out a fairly attractive red headed guy wearing black pants, a black leather vest, and a studded black leather dog collar who was sitting at the bar across the room. A red sticker was on his shoulder, indicating he was a doll. “He’s a regular, and I know he likes to play with the boys.”
“Thanks,” Liam said and headed straight toward him. He leaned on the bar by the guy and flashed his best charming smile. “Can I buy you a drink?” Upon closer inspection the guy had numerous cuts all over his body in various states of healing. He was definitely a regular.
The guy turned to look at him, obviously liking what he saw. "Absolutely. Have a seat. Gin and tonic. What are you having, sweetness?"
Liam laughed. "I think you know what I want," he said as he took the seat beside his prey. There were rules he had to follow, but the brothers hadn’t objected to him feeding on a willing nurse. That meant willing victims were okay, right? The vampire wasn’t going to think too hard about it because he would just go in circles. He’d gotten out of the house to release a little pressure, not add to it.
He talked to the man while the guy sipped his gin and tonic. He was able to be completely honest, which was refreshing, even if his companion thought it was all some made up fantasy story. Liam was pretty sure he was the only real vampire in the place. The rest of the people wearing black stickers were just freakish humans who like to play pretend. Oh, if only they really knew what hell being a vampire really was.
As it turned out, his new friend was an accountant named Stephen. Stephen’s job sounded pretty boring and thankless, but the rest of his personality was actually engaging. It wasn’t love, and wasn’t likely ever going to be, but at least Liam was able to enjoy himself and relax.
Stephen finished his drink and turned to Liam with a little smile, running a fingertip lightly up and down the vampire’s bare arm. “They have private rooms here for play time. Care to join me in one?”
“I’d love to,” Liam returned the smile.
Stephen took his hand and led him over to the back corner where there was a dimly lit hallway lined with rooms. Some of them had what looked to be neckties on the door handles. Liam guessed those were the already occupied rooms. Stephen guided him to one that was open, taking a necktie off a hook just inside the door and placing it on the door handle like the others. It was a small room with blood red walls and a black bed in the center. On the wall was a little basket, and in it a very sharp looking knife in a clear plastic sheath. Once the door was closed and locked Stephen wasted no time. He turned on Liam like he was some kind of predator and ripped the vampire’s shirt right off him, drinking in his bare chest. Then he lunged at Liam and kissed him passionately. The guy was coming on a little strong for only having known him a short time, but Liam had already decided he wasn’t going to put too much thought into tonight. “You don’t even feel warm,” Stephen said, breaking the contact to remove his own vest. “I don’t know how you pulled that off, but oh, god that’s hot!”
Suddenly flashes of Dean came to the forefront of the vampire’s mind. It wasn’t Stephen reaching for the knife in the basket and pulling it out of its flimsy sheath, it was Dean. It was Dean who made a long shallow cut across his entire chest, causing blood to drip down that perfect skin. Liam felt like he was losing his mind, but decided to just go with the delusion rather than fight it. Sometimes a heavy dose of fantasy wasn’t really a bad thing. He moved toward Dean, leaning down to lap at the spilled blood, delighting in the taste of it. A soft moan escaped his lips and Dean pulled him up for another heated kiss. The act seemed so intimate, so full of desire. It reminded the vampire of when Jason used to let Liam feed from him. A human giving up their life’s essence to nourish a vampire. Nothing else could bring two people closer.
More cuts were made, and Liam delighted in lovingly licking up the spilled warm red liquid that poured from Dean’s skin. His cock was so hard in his pants it was becoming a little painful. It was a relief when Dean reached to unbutton the slacks and pull them off. “Oh, god, I need you right now,” Liam moaned against the crook of Dean’s neck, nibbling on the sensitive flesh.
“I need you too,” Dean answered, lust dripping from his voice. A drawer in the wall was opened and a bottle of lube was placed in Liam’s hand. “Take me,” Dean whispered, claiming the vampire’s mouth again while hurried to undress himself.
Liam quickly shed his boxers and watched hungrily as Dean got on all fours on the bed. Liam squirted a generous amount of lube in his hand and started rubbing it on his ready and willing manhood. Sensation flooded his brain just from his own touch and his eyes fluttered in pleasure. This was going to be good. He moved to stand behind Dean, admiring that perfect ass he’d been lusting over since he met the guy. The little pink ring of muscle was visible, and Liam pressed the tip of his cock to it. The anticipation was almost too much.
He pressed forward, sinking slowly into the depths of the beautiful man’s body. He heard a pleasured moan, much like the one his ears had picked up in the professor’s study. It was all just too much for his brain to process. It had been so long, years actually since he had been with someone in this way. Who it was made it all the more arousing, and he knew this was going to be a quick one. His body couldn’t last with this kind of stimulation.
Before he knew it he was buried to the hilt inside of Dean. His hips started rocking in a slow gentle motion at first, pleasure washing over him and making him shiver. He grabbed the knife where it lay discarded on a little stand and he cut across Dean’s back, leaning over to suck up the freshly freed blood.
The noises Dean made suggested that he liked that. Dean pushed his ass back against Liam’s hips and ground into him every time he thrusted in. Liam’s pace became quicker and more erratic as he continued making fresh cuts. He couldn’t get enough, and he was about to blow.
His bloodied lips found Dean’s shoulder and he raked his teeth across the bare skin. Seconds later his orgasm slammed into him and his fangs shot out, digging deep into Dean’s flesh. He heard Dean reach his own climax shortly after.
Liam took a deep breath and pulled his softening cock out of Dean, collapsing on the bed beside him. His eyes closed and he savored the moment. “Finished already?” a strange voice hit his ears.
Liam’s eyes snapped open and his head turned. There sat Stephen on the bed with a satisfied smile, fresh cuts all over his exposed torso and blood streaked across his skin. A wicked looking vampire bite was still oozing blood on his shoulder. The delusion was gone, and Liam had crash landed back in reality land. “I guess you’re just that good,” Liam responded, reaching to run his fingers through Stephen’s hair. He couldn’t tell this guy he’d just used his body to make love to another man. That would be rude and very insulting. “Plus it’s been a while for me,” he threw in a bit of truth.
“Oh,” Stephen nodded. “Well, what little there was of it was pretty good for me too.”
“Awesome.” Liam now felt extremely awkward because of the trick his brain had played on him. “You know, I have to get up early tomorrow for a business meeting anyway. I should really go, but it was a pleasure to meet you.”
“You too. Hey, are you leaving tomorrow, or can I see you again?”
“Leaving tomorrow,” Liam answered, moving to start gathering his clothes and putting them back on. “This was just a very short business trip.”
“Oh, I see.” Stephen looked rather disappointed as he too began getting dressed again.
Liam left the room quickly without saying another word. He walked at a brisk pace right out of the club and into the crisp night air. His hands moved to his face and his eyes shut tight, willing the universe to make it so the last few hours had never happened. But when his eyes opened he was still standing outside the club with the taste of blood on his tongue.
With a heavy sigh he began walking again, not really sure where he was going. He didn’t have that much to think about anymore. His subconscious had made it abundantly clear what he wanted. He wanted Dean Winchester.
It was just after four in the morning when Liam walked back into the house. Sam, Dean, and Natalie were all still seated at the table in the dining room. Dirty dished sat to the side, suggesting they had even taken a meal there and just hadn’t cleaned up the mess yet. “You were gone a long time,” Dean commented when he walked in the room.
“I guess I was,” Liam said as he took a seat at the table again.
“Follow the rules?”
“Naturally,” he lied. It was only a little white lie, and they pretty much trusted him finally, so he could get away with it.
“I’m not gonna pick up the paper tomorrow and see a news story of some person getting attacked?”
“No,” Liam laughed. “At least not with a strange bite mark anyway. I behaved myself, I can’t speak for all the criminals in the city.”
“Where’d you go?”
What was with the third degree all of a sudden? Now it felt like he was a kid again with his brother breathing down his neck. “Around. I found a nice little night club I sat in for a little while.”
“Oh, that’s nice. Meet anyone special?”
That question Dean seemed very interested in the answer to. Liam shrugged. “No one special, no. There was this guy who turned out to be a very nice piece of ass. I wouldn’t call what happened between us relationship material, but hey, we all need a nice piece of ass once in a while too.” Was that jealousy that had flashed in Dean’s eyes?
“Glad you had a good time,” Dean sounded a little cold. “I’ve had a long day. I’m gonna go take a bath and then hit the hay. See you tomorrow,” He stood and grabbed the dirty dishes beside him to take to the kitchen.
“I’m just going to do a bit more research on this museum we’re going to break into, then I’m going to turn in myself,” Sam said.
“Liam, would you mind helping me clean up the rest of these dishes?” Natalie asked.
“Sure,” Liam answered, grabbing the plate and silverware next to Sam and following her to the kitchen. He could guess that she had an ulterior motive and just wanted to get him alone.
He passed Dean coming out, and the hunter ran right into his shoulder even though the hallway was wide enough for them to pass each other without touching. “What’s his problem?” Liam mumbled as he helped put the dishes in the dishwasher.
“You know exactly what his problem is,” Natalie said. “It’d be the same problem you’d have if he went out and got laid.”
Liam stared at her a little dumbfounded. Did she know about his eavesdropping? Was she lying about not being able to read his mind? “I... Why would I have a problem with that?”
“You two,” she sighed and shook her head. “Honestly, I really think you were made for each other.”
“I don’t follow.”
“Quit playing dumb. I know you heard that moan come from Dean when you kissed him. You’re not stupid. Right now he’s feeling very confused and more than a little vulnerable. He’s not used to that, so you’re going to have to be the patient party. Don’t bait him, Liam.”
“I wasn’t baiting anybody!” Liam insisted. “He asked a question and I told him the truth.”
“Well, things like this are easier for you to come to terms with. He’s had his whole world turned upside down. It’s going to take some time for him to sort through everything, but I promise, it’ll be worth it in the end.”
“Okay,” Liam nodded. “I can be the patient party.”
“Good,” she smiled. “I’m going to bed too. See you when you rejoin the living again.”
With that she left Liam alone in the kitchen to ponder the world of possibilities that lay before him.”
