Chapter Eleven
A week had passed since the incident with Tariq. Sayid had returned to Kristien’s and had sent all but one of his staff home. At first he kept away from Kristien, feeling he had to do some kind of penance for the cruel deed that Tariq did to Kristien. Slowly he started to make contact, at first just to exchange pleasantries and then started to ride out with the main stables, where sometimes he would actually be out on the same string of horses as Kristien.
Then unexpectedly one day, Hawke had left Kristien, probably to go off in the monster helicopter that he was shown, Sayid came across Kristien walking in the estate grounds, in her woods by herself without any protection guards and just with her dobermanns.
Sayid looked over at Kristien who had not spotted him in the distance. “Hello Kristien.”
Kristien looked around her and then saw where the voice had come from. “Bugger.” She muttered under her breath. She took a deep breath. “Hi Sayid, nice day isn’t it.”
Sayid walked directly over to her. “I never knew you walked alone?” He spoke softly to her. “Where’s your protection detail?” Sayid started to look around the near area watching for the Agents, there were none.
Kristien looked directly at him. “Daily.” She lied. “Carsten watches from afar.” She put her hands deep into her pocket to find her PDA to activate her GPS signal. How she was going to explain this one she did not know. “Besides I have killer dobermanns here!” Kristien looked at all the dogs around all looking at her awaiting any instruction. “They all have previous with tennis balls, they are deadly.”
Sayid saw her fumbling with her pockets. “I am making you uncomfortable, I apologise. I will leave.” Sayid turned to leave her alone.
“No it’s alright.” Kristien got out her PDA and just waved it. “Just emails that have come through, that’s all.” She lied looking down at the PDA, would she start now letting Carsten know what she was doing or would she hold off?
Sayid sat down on a felled tree. “It must be hard for you.”
“Hard? You have lost me?” Kristien held the PDA firmly in her hand, her thumb ready to press one button that would activate the GPS signal and alert everyone to her position.
“Every time you have come across an Arab male you have been hurt.” Sayid reminded her. “I don’t blame you for not wanting to be with me.”
Kristien made a small frown and worked out that Sayid was right and sadly he was putting himself into that category. Kristien closed up her PDA and put it back into her pocket, she walked over and sat next to Sayid. “It’s not you.” Kristien spoke with a sad tone in her voice.
“Really? You could have fooled me.” Sayid spoke softly to her and looked around at the trees all swaying in the light breeze, the leaves and branches all making a soft wooded sound, a soothing sound of nature. All of the dobermanns laid down awaiting Kristien’s next move.
“Sayid, honestly it’s not you or where you come from.” Kristien did not want to fully explain her decision to Sayid.
“Then would you be so kind as to explain why you won’t consummate our marriage?” Sayid struggled to ask her with a raspy voice and looked at the floor.
Kristien noted his voice, Carsten was right, he was in love with her. Kristien could not look at Sayid. She hated herself for causing any man pain, no matter how it was caused or in Sayid’s case self imposed. “So are you telling me a quick roll in the hay would be enough for you then?” Kristien asked.
Sayid looked at her. “Yes, once would be sufficient.” He told her and stood up and started to walk away, to leave her to her quiet walk. “Then I would leave you.”
“Leave?” Kristien was intrigued.
Sayid turned to her. “Yes, I would leave.”
“Just like that, you get your leg over and bam, off you ride into the sunset?” Kristien could not believe what was offered to her, she felt sick to the stomach. “What’s not to stop you from staying then?”
“I would offer a contract. Once you consummate I would leave you and annul our marriage, I would not insult you by a divorce.” Sayid told her. “You would be free to do what ever you please, I would never darken your door again.” Sayid continued with his offer. “I have asked my legal team to draw up a prospective contract, I can let your legal team have it, if you would like.”
Kristien was lost for words. She had been offered one hell of an indecent proposal and she just looked at Sayid, in shock.
Sayid saw that he had gained the advantage and continued to walk away. “Good afternoon, Kristien.” Sayid left Kristien to think about what had just been said.
Over a few days Sayid often met Kristien for informal chats in the woods. He found her very different when she was by herself, more open, more happy than when she was alone. Hawke was still nowhere to be seen, which pleased Sayid. Sayid sat on the tree waiting for Kristien. Kristien was on her way back as she had altered her time to walk and was earlier, partly trying to avoid accidentally meeting Sayid. As she walked back she saw Sayid.
“Hello Kristien.” Sayid greeted her warmly.
Kristien nodded in acknowledgement and she saw Sayid had brought up a leather folder next to him. “You brought your homework?” Kristien sat next to Sayid on the tree.
“I have got the contract for you.” Sayid pushed it over to her. Kristien just looked down at it at first, really not sure how to react to this. She picked it up and flicked through it. Her speed reading was phenomenal, to anyone watching it appeared she had flicked through..
“It’s very thorough.” Kristien complimented him.
“I hope you will consider its’ contents.” Sayid calmly replied to her.
“Sayid, I cannot….” Kristien started.
“I do not want an answer now.” Sayid stood up and started to leave her.
“Alright, you want sex then?” Kristien threw a bone to Sayid. He turned and faced Kristien.
“I want to make love to you.” Sayid answered.
“But the thing is, you might be making love but it will just be sex.” Kristien told him and stood up. “The sort of sex you can get from your concubines, anytime you please.”
“Kristien, I ….er ….I.” Sayid was stuck for words.
“Bloody hell, don’t go all shy now on me! Are you this bad with your concubines?” Kristien couldn’t believe that at the mention of his girls he kept for pleasure he went all shy. “Or are they chained up?”
Sayid looked over at Kristien sheepishly. Kristien ignored Sayid’s male pride and ploughed her hands through her hair and rubbed her head, her long brown hair fell gently though her fingers and down her back, the sunlight catching the auburns and the blonde strands that were naturally part of her stunning hair. Sayid watched her struggle with her deep intimate feelings that she kept just for Hawke.
“Sayid I would not go to bed with you or any other man for that matter, ever.” Kristien just came out with it, she didn’t know how to turn a man down gently. “I will try and tell you once and for all that Stringfellow is the one and only man I will ever allow in my life.” Kristien looked at Sayid who was hanging off her every word. “How do I explain this?” Kristien said rhetorically, searching her brain to help her.
“Please try.” Sayid begged.
“Sayid that was a rhetorical……oh never mind.” Kristien mumbled under her breath. “Prime example there.”
Sayid heard her and raised his eyebrow, Kristien realised that Sayid heard her.
“Ok here goes nothing.” Kristien took a deep breath. “The reason why I will have trouble explaining this is that I don’t understand it either and I deal with facts and figures every day but this is beyond any physical logical explanation.” Kristien continued. “Have you ever made love with someone and the world around you physically stopped spinning? The raindrops that were falling, pause in the sky because the sea of emotion that you are creating changes gravity, in fact all the laws of physics cease to exist.” Kristien looked at Sayid who was now listening to Kristien’s deep explanation. “Stringfellow and I are soul mates, we know what each other is thinking, feeling, seeing at any one given time, our hearts, minds and souls are connected at any one given point in this universe but when we are as one, when our bodies join.” Kristien inhaled deeply and let it out slowly as if experiencing what she was describing. “When we combine our hearts, bodies, minds and souls we become each other, our heart beats are the same, our breathing, everything combined so much that we are floating above our physical bonds.” Kristien paused. “When you have shared your body with your soul mate, nothing else will ever come close, nothing.” Kristien looked at Sayid with sorrowful eyes. “If your soul mate leaves this earth, some how, some way you will follow soon as you cannot exist in the empty void, the black hole, that is left behind, such is the enchanting spell of having a soul mate.” Kristien looked up at Sayid. “Sadly we are only given one soul mate per life time and billions don’t even experience that.”
Sayid stood in the silence, feeling very envious of Hawke and also deeply saddened at what he had just heard. As much as he wanted to be with Kristien, a realisation of what she had just explained slowly dawned on him, he had never experienced one thing of what she had explained.
Sayid moved over to Kristien and gently kissed her on each cheek. “Thank you.”
“For what?” Kristien asked.
“For treating me like a man.” Sayid smiled at her and then walked away leaving her with her thoughts about Stringfellow.
Carsten stood several yards away hovering behind the bushes, watching the scene. He would have to tell Hawke on his return.
