They married six days later at the Paris casino. He gave Sara a credit card and told her to make it happen. If the womenfolk wanted a wedding, then there would be a wedding. Gil was tired of not being married. It was not a large affair, but it was elegant and tasteful and full of love and friendship.Sara wore a Vera Wang gown that skirted her curves and dipped low in the front. It hovered just before white and was made of something slinky and light. Gil told her that it reminded him of something from the 20’s. She wore nearly flat shoes and no stockings. Ropes of pearls added to the aged illusion. Her hair was loose and free and she never had looked quite so young as she did that day.
Grissom wore a black Italian suit with a silver tie and one cufflink with the initial “H” and another with the initial “S”. He held Hope close during most of the ceremony while Sara beamed at them both and stroked the child’s back with one finger.
Mara, the next door neighbor who had bumbled her first meeting with Sara by admitting that she held a torch for Grissom, baked the couple’s wedding cake by way of apology. When she saw Nick starring at her as she cut Warrick a slice, she blushed and looked around to make sure she wasn’t mistaken.
Warrick rolled his eyes at Catherine who stunned him when she blew him a kiss and gave him a saucy wink.
Brass and Dana whispered to one another in a dark corner until Grissom and Sara yelled that they should get a room.
The years passed. They all married the ones who had caught their eyes. There were babies born, even a set of twins. They changed jobs, and bought houses and went on treks through Europe. One couple survived a near affair. Another conquered infertility. A third stared down cancer.
They thrived and prospered and even the least happy of them was happier than any one person had a right to be.
