Things had gone smoothly for a couple days. Nothing was ever gonna be perfect. They all knew that. Hard work had to be done in order for the farm to stay in working order. Like Melanie predicted, Hershel had decided to let the group stay on his property. Today was going to be the day that everyone moved into the house, as the weather would be changing soon and it was already starting to get colder at night.
Melanie wasn’t sure what everyone’s sleeping arrangements were going to be, but she knew that she wanted to stick close to Daryl. Their relationship was in a good place these days and she didn’t feel safe without him being around.
Melanie walked into the house carrying her bags and looked for an open place on the floor to set them.
“Melanie!!!” Maggie came running down the stairs and snatched up Melanie’s bags and took off upstairs with them. Melanie followed closely behind and caught up with Maggie just as she entered the room where Daryl had recovered in.
“What are you doing Maggie? My bags go downstairs.”
“Nope. I talked to dad. He is giving you and Daryl this room. He figured you guys wouldn’t want to be separated and although Daryl is a floor sleeper, he figured that you might not be. This is the best room in the house so I would count my blessings if I were you. Besides, when you two get all up on each other, the noise won’t carry out into the hall. It’s almost sound proof in here. Dad says its cause the walls are so thick.” And with that she winked at Melanie and nudged her playfully in the side.
“Oh my god, Maggie. I am not even gonna go there.” laughed Melanie blushing.
“Oh come on now girl. Give up the goods!! We have ALL heard the noises that come out of your tent during the night. You can tell me. I promise I won’t tell a soul…..Come on Mel. I need some good ol fashioned girl talk. Quit holding out on me. How big is that dick he’s packin? He must be big if he can make you moan like that.”
“This is not a conversation that I am comfortable with having Maggie.” Melanie tried to walk into the en suite bathroom, but Maggie stepped in front of her and blocked her.
“Come on Melanie. You want in the bathroom? Talk.”
“Fine. This is all I will tell you. He is perfection…He needs no help on figuring out what to do or how to do it, He has the most beautiful dick I have ever seen. It has no curve to it. It’s perfectly straight and the shaft is long and pink. At the base, he has curly brown hair that I love to run my fingers through when we are done making love and just lazying around. The head is the most perfect mushroom head you have ever seen. It is the perfect size. And his balls are smooth and fit perfectly in my mouth. I could kiss them all day. He loves it when I run my tongue from the base of his balls to the shaft of his penis.”
“Wow!! I wish I had all of that. Glenn’s leans a little bit to the right. I am not sure what that means, but it does. Glenn’s is nice, but Daryl’s sounds like it’s amazing. Too bad I didn’t nab him first, huh? Anyway, now that I have that vision in my head I think I am going to head up to my room for a little private time. But you probably wouldn’t know anything about that since you’ve got MR. Big Dick Redneck down there.” Maggie giggled and danced out the door and up to her room.
I hope Maggie doesn’t repeat what I said, Melanie thought to herself. Daryl would be so mad if he found out she was talking about their private stuff. Just as Melanie shook that thought out of her head, she turned to find Daryl standing right behind her.
“Whatcha in here doin Mel?” he said with a sly smile.
“Oh…You know….putting stuff away. Tryin to organize the drawers so we each have our own to put our stuff in. Do you want me to unpack your stuff for you?”
“Naw. Just leave em in the bags. Just in case we gotta leave in a hurry. Don’t wanna be wastin time havin to put it all back. Just grab and go.”
“What do you think is going to happen? We are pretty safe here and we have plenty of food to last us for a good long while.”
“Ya never know Mel. The world fell apart so fast. Things are shit everywhere. We all woulda died if we hadn’t found this place. Gotta have a backup plan in case this place falls. Need ta know we got everythin together in case it ever does.”
“Ok.” was all she could say.
Daryl walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her. He nuzzled her neck and planted kisses in her sensitive place at the base. He leaned into her ear and said. “If anything ever happens, ya stick with me ok? I’ll protect ya until my last breath.”
“Don’t say that,” she said. “I don’t want to think of what life would be like in a world where you didn’t exist.” Tears began dripping down Melanie’s face. Why was she so emotional lately? Any little thing could set her off into a crying mess.
Daryl let go of her and was about to walk out of the room when a blood curdling scream filled the house. Everyone ran outside to see where it was coming from. Daryl, Melanie, and Rick raced across the field. Daryl flew through the air and tackled a lone walker, stabbing it in the head. They all couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw Dale laying on the ground. His abdomen had been torn open by the walker and he was bleeding profusely. Rick called for Hershel to come and try to save him, but there was nothing that could be done. He was going to die. Dale began struggling for breath and Rick knew he had to help him.
“Help him. He’s suffering.” said Andrea.
Rick took out his gun and put a couple of bullets in. He cocked it and aimed it at Dale’s head, but he couldn’t pull the trigger.
Melanie held on tight to Daryl. This was what she was afraid of. She was afraid of losing him this way. To see Daryl lying in Dale’s place would devastate her. And that grief would consume her. She wouldn’t want to live without him. Not after they had come so far in just a few weeks. She would probably allow herself to be taken right along with him if it ever came to that.
She clutched to Daryl’s arm and didn’t want to let go of him for one second. But Daryl turned and kissed her cheek and walked over to Rick. He placed his hand over Rick’s gun and took it from him. He knelt down in front of Dale and lifted the gun and aimed it at his head.
Their eyes met and all Daryl could say was, “I’m sorry brother.”
The gun went off and Dale was gone.
Everyone went back to the house to settle in for the night, they would bury the body in the morning.
As they walked back to the house, Melanie and Daryl held on to each other so tight. They were both afraid of losing each other.
