Maggie and Carol sat with Lori as the contractions tore through her body.
"Keep pushing…almost there" Doctor Stevens encouraged.
"The head's crowning. Full head of hair!" Sasha squealed.
Lori was exhausted but her body was taking over where she wasn't able to keep up the pace. She squeezed Carol's hand tightly and gave one last push.
Soon the room had one more occupant, and as Carol placed a cold cloth on Lori's face, the brunette burst into tears.
"Baby boy!" Doctor Stevens happily said.
"Is he healthy?" Lori asked, her voice thick with emotion and exhaustion.
"Perfect. Perfectly healthy." The doctor replied.
After the baby boy was examined he was swaddled and given to Lori. She cried as she held her son.
"He needs a name." Maggie said, her own belly protruding.
"Michael. Michael Richard Grimes. It's Rick's name flipped." She said, as she wiped away tears.
The nurse rolled over the bassinette and Lori reluctantly held over Michael so he could go to the nursery.
As the nurses cleaner her up, Lori's emotions got the better of her. She put both her hands over her face and started sobbing.
"He'd be proud of you." Carol whispered. "He'd be so proud of you. You know that."
Maggie and Carol could only softly say words of comfort as Lori emotionally broke down.
It was six months since they found refuge at Fort Benning. In those six months, they were finally able to sleep during the night. They had food in their stomachs and a pillow to sleep on.
Times changed for the group who once found solace in a prison. Daryl found love with a private named Aaron Raleigh. Glenn and Maggie got married by the base's priest, Father Gabriel Stokes. Andrea delivered Ty's baby, named Tyreese Williams Junior. They had an informal ceremony and we married when the baby was three months old.
Andrea completely ignored her daughter, Amy, whom called Lori "mama."
Carol and Abe also got married, and enjoyed their family of AJ, Becca and Sophia. No other children would be added to the family. They lived together with Allen, because Billy and Ben didn't want to be away from their cousins.
Lori was the only adult in her small home, with her children; Amy, Carl, Judith, Julia, and, now, Michael.
Collette married Private Hudson, and moved into a house across the grounds from her father and stepmother.
Only one hundred miles away, in a dilapidated but still standing seven-eleven, Michonne was trying to adjust her clothes to be more comfortable. Her pregnant belly was making her clothing tight, and she realized she needed to buy maternity pants.
The night she tried to seduce Rick the truth came out. She was the one who manipulated the fences. She knew the timing…just before someone would be in the guard tower. When she checked the schedule, it was Abe and Carol. She knew they'd be more focused on each other.
Weeks before some of the men raided an Army surplus store, and of all things to bring back, they found a few hand grenades. She used a few of the walker pets to mask her scent as she used a bolt cutter to loosen the fences. The walkers who were roaming around outside the perimeter of the fence didn't "see" her there…she was masked by the pets. It was twilight, and she could still see what she was doing. The fence was cut, and a steady stream of walkers came through. Sure enough, she looked to the top of the tower and didn't see anyone. It wasn't until later, when she slipped out of the side door, that she threw the grenades, one after another, toward the fence.
Her plan worked. There was screaming, and when she grabbed her daughter and started to run, she saw Andrea give him to the walkers. She ran in the other direction, and toward freedom. She got a hold of two of the pets, and ran a mile or so down the road. Hours later, at sunrise, Rick, Michael, Beth and Merle showed up at the abandoned gas station in which she was hiding.
While she was happy to see her son, Michael, she was happier to see Rick. The only problem was that he was in a complete panic. He lost everything. Just as she hoped. She wanted to recapture the magic they had in high school. She had to get Lori and the brats out of the way.
She was on her own since the night she confessed to making the prison fall. At least I'll live with the satisfaction of knowing I ruined your life.
