Sam knocked on Dean and Liam’s bedroom door one morning. “What’s up?” Dean asked when he answered.
Sam came in and sat down on the bed. “As you know, Natalie’s due date is coming up fast. I know our job is important, but I don’t want to take any more jobs for a while. I want to help get Natalie through these next few weeks, and I want to be here when my son is born.”
Dean nodded. “You’re perfectly entitled to put your family first once in a while. Yeah, we can hole up here. I wanna watch my nephew be born too. So, yeah, we can just not look for jobs.”
Sam looked a little surprised. “You’re perfectly okay with not saving anybody?”
Dean shrugged. “We’re not the only hunters in the world. Others can take the jobs. And if they don’t, well, like I said, we’re entitled to lives too.”
“Thanks,” Sam smiled.
They went down for breakfast and told Natalie the good news, that they weren’t leaving for a while. “You sure you three are gonna be okay with that?” she asked. “I thought there was some kind of law that Winchesters couldn’t be in one place too long.”
Sam put a hand on her belly. “I think that law can be broken for very good reasons.”
About two weeks later Natalie and Dean were both out. Liam came out of the bathroom and Sam slammed him against the wall with a knife in hand. “Sam, what are you doing?” Liam asked a little scared.
Sam’s eyes were a little wild. “I know you don’t understand what’s going on right now, but part of you does. It’s been close to two months, and I need something from you.”
“Sam,” Liam was shaking a little. “If you need something, all you gotta do is ask, but what do I have that you need so bad?”
Sam pinned Liam’s arm above his head and made a little slice in the flesh. Then he brought the bleeding wound to his mouth and started sucking down the blood. Liam watched terrified and disgusted until Sam stopped and let him free.
Liam went back into the bathroom to bandage himself up, then went into the bedroom and locked the door to lie down.
“We’ve got a problem,” Astiratu appeared behind Bobby who jumped out of his chair.
“Don’t you knock?” Bobby gave him a little glare as he got up off the floor. “What’s this problem?”
“Sam’s unholy gift, I didn’t get rid of it. I thought I could take it and turn into a weapon, which was working fine and dandy until a few minutes ago.”
“What happened?” Bobby asked concerned.
“Don’t get mad. I replaced the demon blood with angel hybrid blood. I said don’t get mad,” he put a hand up when Bobby advanced on him. “My intentions were good, as they always are. It’s just… something is happening that I don’t quite understand. I haven’t visited him in close to two months because I’ve had my own shit going on, and he just attacked my body for more blood.”
Bobby took a deep breath. “I’d say that’s a problem, yeah. What were you doing playing with fire like that?”
Astiratu shrugged. “Part of how I get things done is playing with fire. Fire is pretty and it has its uses. I don’t often get burned like this though.”
Bobby narrowed his eyes. “What are you gonna do now?”
“Would I be here talking to you right now if I knew?”
“So, just like with that angel you summoned a while back, you’ve made a giant mess and you want me to clean it up?”
Astiratu sighed. “I’m saying I need help. I’ll find out what I can and do what I can, but I can’t clean this mess by myself. Truth is, nobody exactly knows what Azazel did to Sam’s soul except Azazel, who is dead now. There is no lore to rely on this time because nobody has ever faced this before. Now, I am truly sorry I placed a bet and lost. If I didn’t really care about Sam I’d waste him and be done with it like I always do when things turn a little south on me. But, believe it or not, I do care, quite a bit.” He sighed when he heard the far off sound of knocking and someone trying to shove a door open. “I need to go. Just, at some point have a little chat with Dean and figure something out.”
Liam’s eyes opened, and there was banging on the door. “Babe, are you okay in there?” Dean shouted, his voice full of worry.
“Fine,” Liam called out and got up to unlock the door.
Dean was standing there with a bag in his hand. “Are you sure? I’ve been knocking for a couple of minutes and you weren’t answering. Why did you lock the door? And for that matter, what happened to your arm?” he noticed the bandage.
“Nothing major,” Liam gave him a little smile. “I… Damn it, I can’t lie to you.” Liam’s eyes turned red and Astiratu confessed everything.
Dean’s jaw clenched and he sat on the edge of the bed. “So, what you’re telling me is you turned my brother into your personal guinea pig?”
“I thought having another me around would be handy. Look, I’m sorry. It’s like I told Bobby, we don’t know exactly what we’re dealing with. I mean, he was probably ordered to be killed for a reason. I hadn’t done anything to him when he had that headache. For all I know my angelic influence has kept the twisted part at bay until now. I really don’t have an answer here, which is why I went to Bobby. It’s why I’m talking to you now. The easiest and most convenient thing to do would be just kill him, but I don’t want that, and I don’t think you do either.”
“You...” Dean shook his head. “Just when I thought I was beginning to understand and trust you, I find you’re pulling this shit.”
Astiratu sighed. “Your revelation about me was spot on. I just… Look, I don’t know if this happened because of me, or if it would have anyway. I really don’t know! Maybe I should have left well enough alone. How many times can I say I’m sorry. At least I didn’t lie to you.”
“No,” Dean snorted. “You’ve still got that going for you. I’m just… I’m really angry with you, and I’m worried for my brother.”
Astiratu nodded and blinked. Liam was Liam again. “You look upset. What’s wrong?” Liam asked as he put a hand on Dean’s shoulder.
“Nothing for you to worry about, Babe,” he gave Liam a small smile. “Are you hungry?” he held up the bag in his hand. “Natalie wanted mushroom swiss burgers again. I brought you two since you skipped lunch for a nap.”
“Starved, thanks,” Liam grabbed the bag and dug into the first burger.
A week passed without incident. At about six in the morning Sam knocked on Dean and Liam’s bedroom door. “What?” Dean called out very sleepily.
Sam opened the door, letting light from hallway shine into the room. “Natalie needs to go to the hospital now.”
“Why? What’s wrong?” Dean sat up and rubbed his eyes.
Sam chuckled. “Uh, what do you think we’ve been waiting for? She’s in labor, her water broke about an hour ago and she’s been having contractions.”
“Awesome. Babe,” Dean shook Liam. “Baby time.”
Liam stirred and they got dressed to take Natalie in. Sam had called ahead and a room was waiting for them. They got Natalie all settled and hooked up to everything. “Sam...” Natalie held her hand out and Sam took it. “I’m really scared right now.”
Sam kissed the top of her head. “We’ve read all the books and done everything we can do,” he assured her. “Like you said, you’re a young and healthy person, so everything should be fine.”
Another contraction hit and Natalie grimaced and squeezed Sam’s hand hard. “Uh oh,” the nurse said while looking at the fetal monitor.
“I really don’t wanna hear uh oh right now,” Natalie said with fear in her voice. “What’s wrong?”
“I’m just gonna go get the doctor,” she said before she left.
Doctor Ricci came in moments later with Natalie’s chart. “Please, tell me what’s wrong!” she begged.
“Nothing to be too alarmed about just yet,” the doctor assured her. “It’s just, during your last contraction your baby’s heart rate dropped significantly.”
“I’m no doctor, but that sounds like something to be worried about,” Sam frowned.
“It’s not what we want,” Dr, Ricci looked at him. “But for now we’re going to wait and see I think. His heart rate went right back up to what it should be after the contraction, so that’s good. If it happens during the next contraction I may give you something to hurry you along a little Natalie. But don’t worry, the minute I think your baby may be in any serious danger we will rush you for a c-section and get him out quickly, all right?”
“Alright,” Natalie nodded and relaxed a little.
Sam stood by her and they all watched the fetal monitor when the next contraction hit. The fetal heart rate dropped again, so the doctor gave the go ahead for the nurses to give her something to hurry things along. “Holy...” she grabbed Sam’s arm when another contraction hit much sooner than she expected. “That drug really works. Are you sure he’s okay in there?” she asked the nurse.
The nurse nodded. “Except for the drop in heart rate during the contractions he is showing no other signs of distress. We will keep watching him closely, don’t worry.”
In a little less than five hours Natalie was fully dilated and ready to push. “Okay, Natalie, it’s time. Do you want them to stay for this?” the doctor motioned to Dean and Liam.
“Yes,” she nodded. “They are the uncles. They can even watch if they want.”
Sam, Dean, and Liam, all positioned themselves to watch. “I’ll warn you, gentleman,” the doctor turned to them, “this can get pretty gory, and we’ve had fathers to be faint before.”
“It’s okay,” Sam nodded. “We’ve seen some pretty gory stuff before.”
“Holy...” Dean blinked when the baby crowned.
The baby came all the way out shortly and was held by a nurse. The doctor turned to Sam. “Wanna cut the cord, Dad?”
“Absolutely.” Sam followed the instructions and the baby was taken to be given his first bath.
“Congratulations you two,” the doctor smiled at them. “You are now the proud parents of a healthy baby boy.”
The baby was brought back to Natalie and placed in her arms, all wrapped up in a blanket. “Oh my god,” she smiled down at him. “I’ve been dreaming about this moment since the first time I felt him move, but this is better than my dreams.”
“It is pretty awesome,” Sam agreed, reaching down with a finger to poke at his tiny hand and smiling when he grabbed at it. “Ten tiny fingers, and ten tiny toes. A perfect little human being because we got horny one night.”
Dean patted his brother on the shoulder. “That is how life works, dude. Him coming into the world was the freakiest, yet most awesome thing I have ever seen in my life.”
“Wanna hold him, Dad?” Natalie offered.
“You know I do,” Sam smiled and carefully took him. “Hi there. I’m your dad. I’m the one that’s been talking to you. Oh, god, you are weak in the knees adorable. I never thought I could love anybody so much, but I do, I love you more than anything.”
Dean smacked Sam on the shoulder. “Dude, don’t hog the cuteness. My turn.”
Sam handed the baby over to his brother. “Hey, I’m your Uncle Dean,” Dean smiled down at him. “You’re not even my kid and I think you’re the cutest thing ever. We’ve been waiting a long time to meet you, and I gotta say, this freaking surreal.”
“Me next,” Liam insisted. Dean handed him over. “Hey, I’m your Uncle Liam. Wow, another new life on the planet, and I gotta agree, a damn adorable one. Hang on for the ride, kid, because it’s gonna be a bumpy one, but you’ve got us to look out for you, so you’ll be okay. You’ll be a little spoiled too, I’m sure. Here, I’ll give you back to Mommy.”
Liam set him back in Natalie’s arms and she lovingly stroked his sandy blond colored hair. “That’s your family, and they’re all gonna love you so much. You’ll meet Grandpa a little later I’m sure, and he’ll love you too. Welcome to the world John Matthew Winchester.”
A week later Natalie was searching the house in a frantic state. She found Liam with John in the kitchen. “Oh, thank god, there he is.”
“He can’t run away yet,” Liam chuckled. “Sorry if I worried you, but he was starting to get a little fussy when I got up to pee a little while ago, and I thought you might appreciate sleeping in a little. I changed his diaper, fed him with a bottle, and now he’s… sleeping like a baby.”
Natalie smiled. “Thanks, I do appreciate sleeping in a little. You did warm the bottle up and everything right?”
“Relax, this isn’t my first time handling an infant. It is my first time with that freaking bottle warming contraption, but I figured it out. It’s also the first time I haven’t been able to hear that little heart beating. I swear, a newborn’s heart fluttering away is so freaking cool, but I lost that sense with the blood drinking thing. Ah, well...”
“Since he’s in such good hands, what would you like for breakfast?”
“Waffles sound really good right now.”
“Then waffles it is,” Natalie nodded.
Dean came down a short while later. “Hey, there’s John and Liam, two of my favorite people. I wanna hold him.”
“He’s sleeping,” Liam blinked. “If I move him it’ll wake him.”
“Yeah, then he’ll go back to sleep. The kid loves me.”
“He’s only a week old,” Natalie chuckled. “His big priorities are food and a clean dry diaper. He doesn’t care who holds him, as long as somebody does. He’s cuddly like his daddy.”
“Come on, share the wealth,” Dean held out his arms. Liam sighed and handed him over. John did wake up and fuss a little, but Dean held him close. “It’s okay, little man, Uncle Dean’s got you.” John seemed to settle right down and go back to sleep. “See,” Dean smiled. “Nothing to it.”
Sam came down finally. “Do I smell waffles?”
“Yes,” Natalie nodded. “I’m granting Liam’s request since he was nice enough to pick John up this morning and take care of him so we could sleep a little longer.”
Sam chuckled. “Not that I don’t mind a little extra sleep, but hell, the four of us have been like fighting over who gets hold him since he came home from the hospital. I’m surprised the kid gets any sleep because one of us is always holding him. He’s not gonna want to to sleep alone later if we keep this up.”
“I don’t like sleeping alone either,” Liam shrugged.
“We’re just showing him how loved he is,” Dean said when Natalie reached to take him.
“Breakfast is ready. I will just go put him down so we can eat.” They all gathered around the table and Natalie came back shortly to join them. “Oh, Sam, we’re interviewing nannies today. I know you’re not gonna want to for a while, but eventually you three will go on a job and I need the help.”
“Okay,” Sam nodded with a mouth full of waffle.
After they finished interviewing nannies and picked out one they liked Dean came down. “Sorry, guys, but we gotta go,” he frowned.
“Seriously?” Sam sighed and fell back against the couch. “Already?”
“Castiel needs us for something,” Dean said. “He came to me while I was snuggling John.”
“What does he want now?” Sam asked.
“Don’t know,” Dean shrugged. “Wouldn’t tell me, said it wasn’t safe because someone might be listening. He gave me an address to go to.”
“If this is involving Castiel I certainly don’t need to go,” Liam said. “I just pass out around him anyway.”
“You still need to go,” Dean insisted. “Go pack.”
“Fine,” Liam sighed and went upstairs.
Sam grumbled under his breath. “I’ll go say goodbye to John and pack too.”
When they were alone Dean turned to Natalie. “Natalie, we’re probably not going to be back for a while as much as I hate to say it.”
“Why do you say that? I thought you didn’t know what this Castiel wants.”
“I don’t, but we’ve got a little situation to deal with involving Sam. I won’t go into details, so please don’t ask me to. Don’t go probing my mind either. All I’ll tell you is it’s got something to do with what happened when he was a baby.”
“Okay,” she sighed. “I won’t pry. I trust you. Just please don’t take too long, all right?”
“We’ll try,” Dean nodded.
They left for the address given, and the place was a wreck. “It looks like a bomb went off,” Sam commented.
“There was a fight here,” Dean nodded. Dean’s flashlight landed on a symbol on the wall painted in what looked like blood. “Check it out. Look familiar? Anna used something like that to wish the angels back to the cornfield.”
“So, what? Castiel was fighting angels?” Sam asked.
“Something like that,” Liam nodded. “As usual, the meaning of things is on the tip of my tongue, but it won’t quite come.”
Castiel’s vessel was lying in the rubble and they rushed over to him. “Castiel?” Dean called out and gently shook him.
Castiel groaned and sat up. “What's going on?”
“Cas, you okay?” Sam asked.
“Ugh. Castiel. I'm not Castiel. It's me,” the guy insisted.
“Who’s me?” Sam asked.
“Jimmy. My name's Jimmy,” the man answered.
“Where the hell is Castiel?” Dean asked.
Jimmy looked up at them. “He's gone.”
Jimmy said he was hungry so they took him to a hamburger joint and then to a motel. Jimmy practically inhaled the food. “When's the last time you ate?” Sam asked.
“I don't know,” Jimmy shrugged. “Months.”
“What the hell happened back there?” Sam asked. “It looked like an angel battle royale.”
“All I remember is a flash of light and I, uh, I woke up and I was just, you know, like, me again,” Jimmy said.
“You remember anything about being possessed? Anything at all?” Sam asked.
“Yeah, bits and pieces,” Jimmy nodded. “I mean, angel inside of you, it's kinda like being chained to a comet.”
“Ah, that doesn't sound like much fun,” Dean nodded.
“Understatement,” Jimmy snorted.
“Cas said he wanted to tell us something. Please tell me you remember that,” Sam looked at him.
“Sorry,” Jimmy shrugged.
“Come on, what do you know?” Dean asked.
“My name is Jimmy Novak. I'm from Pontiac, Illinois. So, when can I go home?”
Liam’s eyes flashed red. “You can’t.”
“The hell are you talking about, I can't go home?” Jimmy looked at him like he was nuts.
“Yeah, Astiratu, why can’t he go home?” Dean asked.
“There's a good chance you have a bull's eye on your back now,” Astiratu answered.
“What? From who?” Jimmy asked.
“Demons. You’ve been an angel’s vessel for a while. They’ll want information.”
“I don't know anything!” Jimmy insisted.
“Maybe you don’t,” Astiratu shrugged. “And maybe you do and you just don’t know you know. Demons, they don’t particularly care, and they will do all kinds of very unpleasant things to you to find out.”
“Look, I'm done, okay? With demons, angels, all of it. I just want to go home and see my family.”
“I understand all that,” Astiratu nodded.
“I don't think that you do understand,” Jimmy started to get angry. “I've been shot and stabbed and healed, and my body has been dragged all over the earth. By some miracle, I'm out, and I am done. I've given enough, okay?”
“Oh, believe me, I understand plenty,” Astiratu growled. “Heaven is a demanding bitch, and I was never given a choice. You had a choice. True, you were no doubt brainwashed by all that bible crap and didn’t have a clue what you were actually getting yourself into, but still, you said yes. So, now you are going to be a good little heavenly bitch and keep your ass right where it is, and I’m going to be a good little heavenly bitch and play protection detail.”
“So, basically you’re saying I’m a prisoner,” Jimmy sighed.
“Yep,” Astiratu smiled and patted Jimmy on the head. “That’s about the gist of it. Just be glad the demons didn’t find you first. I won’t hurt you unless you give me a good reason.”
“Sorry,” Sam frowned. “I’ve got a newborn at home I would dearly love to be bonding with right now, but I’m stuck here, same as you until we figure out what’s going on.”
Jimmy sighed and shook his head. “I’m a little tired. Am I allowed to sleep?”
“Of course,” Astiratu smiled. “Like I said, we’re the good guys. This body is exhausted too, so sleep is not a bad idea.” He went over to his bag and pulled out the handcuffs. He put one around his own wrist and the other around Jimmy’s wrist. “Come on, let’s go try and get comfy.”
“Kinky,” Dean chuckled.
Astiratu smirked at him. “If only you weren’t so vanilla, I’d show you just how kinky I can get. And before you say anything, Mr. Christian man,” he turned to Jimmy. “No, homosexuality is not a sin. That’s just human prejudice that happens to really tick me off. In reality land God doesn’t care who you screw as long as all parties involved are of proper age and consenting. He’s really not a fan of Pedophilia or rape, but otherwise… The four of us could have ourselves a grand old homosexual orgy right now, and as long as we all entered into it willingly everything would peachy.”
“Really?” Jimmy looked surprised.
“Really,” Astiratu nodded. “I honestly was made this way. If you want to know why you’ll have to ask God because He’s the one who dropped homosexuality in the mixing bowl that became me. All I know is that in eight thousand years I have only touched women for procreation purposes and I didn’t enjoy it that much. But don’t worry, your virtue will remain in tact. Like I said, rape is a sin, and I am no rapist.”
“Oh, that’s good,” Jimmy sighed.
Sam chuckled. “I really can’t picture you as a father.”
Astiratu shot him a little glare. “I am a very good father when I need to be. You’ll see that as I interact with John. I actually like infants. They may be helpless and needy poop machines, but they’re innocent.”
They all settled down to get some sleep. In the morning they all seemed to wake at the same time and sat up. “Manage to find out what the hell’s going on?” Dean asked Astiratu.
“A little something at least,” Astiratu sighed. “Castiel was dragged back, and it had something to do with whatever he was going to tell you. What that is exactly no one will tell me. Not even snooping yielded any real results. All I really know right now is that until Cas is finished with a remedial angel refresher, we are glorified babysitters to his vessel,” he looked over at Jimmy.
“What?” Jimmy raised his eyebrows. “I said I was done with this!”
“Sorry,” Astiratu shrugged. “Once permission is given it can’t be taken back. Heaven owns your ass as long as it lives and breathes. I know, the hidden clauses in the contract are really sneaky, but life sucks, get a helmet.”
Jimmy sighed. “Well, this vessel is hungry again and it has to go to the bathroom.”
“This body too. We have four people and one bathroom, so we’re gonna have to take turns. I was also doing some thinking. Believe it or not, Jimmy, I may be half angel, but also half human, and therefore not unfeeling or non sympathetic. It may not be the smartest idea, but, I think maybe we can take you for at least a short visit with your family.”
“Thank you,” Jimmy smiled and gave him a little nod.
Astiratu scooted himself so that he was closer to Jimmy and his legs were over the side of the bed. “Keep this in mind, Jimmy. I am doing you a kindness, and I really don’t like it when those are thrown back in face. So, if you try to run from us I will hunt you down like a dog and carve your heart out with a spoon, got it?”
“Got it,” Jimmy swallowed hard.
“I wouldn’t test him on it either,” Sam said. “He’s not a bad guy when he’s happy, but piss him off and hell hath no fury...”
Once they did their morning routines and got some breakfast they got on the road. “Are you really eight thousand years old?” Jimmy asked Astiratu.
“Roughly, yes,” Astiratu nodded.
“And really half angel half human?”
“Again, yes. As one of our companions’ friends put it, I believe it was President Roosevelt who said ‘speak softly and carry a big stick’. Well, God fashioned me into his big stick. If evil looks like it’s going to get too much of a foothold in the world I get sent to beat the ever loving crap out of it.”
“And now you’re guarding me.”
“Seems that way. I’m as thrilled about it as you are, but orders are orders.”
It was nightfall when they pulled up to a nice looking house and Jimmy got out, followed by the others. Jimmy walked up to the door, Astiratu close behind him, and he rang the doorbell. A woman answered and her jaw hit the floor. “Oh my god! We thought you were dead!” she put a trembling hand to her mouth.
“I’m okay,” he assured her with a smile.
“Who are these men with you?” she asked.
“Hello,” Astiratu smiled warmly and reached out to shake her hand. “We are from the Rosewood Mental Health facility. Your husband, he checked himself in with us. He really wasn’t well at the time. However, he has really missed you and your daughter, and he’s gotten well enough that we felt a quick home visit wouldn’t hurt.”
Amelia raised an eyebrow. “And this mental health facility doesn’t have a telephone?”
“I am so very sorry, Amelia,” Jimmy frowned. “It’s my fault. I should have called, I just… Like this nice man said, I wasn’t in a healthy place. I’m better now, so, can we…” He looked to Astiratu. “Can we have dinner?”
Amelia nodded and motioned for them all to come in. “I’m Liam,” Astiratu smiled again. “And this is Dean and Sam.”
They both nodded and smiled. Jimmy’s daughter came in to give her father a hug. “Well, hello there,” Astiratu greeted her. “And what’s your name?”
“I’m Claire.”
“That’s a very pretty name for a very pretty girl.”
“Thanks,” she blushed. “Are you friends of my dad’s?”
“You know what, that’s exactly what we are.”
“Make yourselves comfortable while I throw something together,” Amelia said as she headed into the kitchen.
She called them to the table a little while later with a platter of sandwiches. “Sorry, but turkey and roast beef is all we’ve got that’s enough for everyone.”
“That’s completely fine,” Sam said as they sat down.
“It’s perfect,” Jimmy smiled and reached for a sandwich.
“Daddy, aren't you going to say Grace?” Claire asked.
“No, honey, I don't think I am,” he shook his head and took a bite.
They ate, no one really saying much. When Amelia started cleaning up the doorbell rang. Amelia went to answer it. “Hey, Roger.”
“Hey, Ames. Am I crazy or did I just see your husband wander in here a while ago?”
“Yeah, uh, you did,” she nodded. “But, Roger, now is not a good time.”
Jimmy got up and went over to the door. Astiratu followed closely again. “Hey, there he is,” Roger smiled. “Son of a bitch. What the hell happened to you?”
“Ah, long story,” Jimmy chuckled.
“And who are you?” Roger asked Astiratu. “Standing that close, are you Jimmy’s secret boyfriend or something?” Roger laughed.
“That depends on who’s asking,” Astiratu said as he stealthily pulled out a bottle of holy water and splashed it in the man’s face. There was a sizzling sound and Roger screamed in agony. “Nice try, bitch,” Astiratu growled and pulled the knife to thrust it up into Roger’s throat.
Amelia saw what happened and she screamed in horror. “Amelia, please, it’s okay,” Jimmy pleaded.
“That man just killed our neighbor! How the hell is that okay!”
Astiratu sighed. “Regrettable that your neighbor is dead, but there was a demon inside him trying to get to you and your husband. My job is to keep that from happening.”
“You’re all crazy!” she shouted. “Out of my house!” She backed up toward the dining room and was snatched by a red headed woman.
“Son of a bitch!” Dean shouted as he ran after them. Between him and Sam they grabbed the possessed woman off Amelia and held her in front of Astiratu. Astiratu held out his hand and black smoke poured from her mouth and burst into flame.
Astiratu sighed. “I knew this trip was a bad idea...”
Amelia was trembling in the corner. “Was that…?”
“A demon? Yes,” Astiratu nodded. “Demons are real. A lot of things are a real. And what really happened to your husband was that he was dumb enough to sign a contract without reading the fine print.”
“Jimmy?” she looked to him.
“It’s true,” he sighed deeply. “I can’t really explain everything in detail, but you must know my intentions were good.”
Suddenly there was a bright light in the room. Everyone but Astiratu had to shield their eyes. “Welcome back, Cas,” Astiratu smiled.
“Thank you,” Castiel nodded and turned to walk out.
“Cas!” Astiratu called out.
“Yes?” Castiel turned.
Astiratu motioned to Amelia and Claire. “Those people are your vessel’s family. I distinctly remember explaining this to you before, humans have feelings. Can’t you, I don’t know, be a little nicer than just walking out on them again?”
Castiel nodded. “You’re right, of course.” He turned to the two women. “Your husband and your father has given himself to serve the Lord. Take comfort that you are losing him to a noble cause.”
“Hey, Cas,” Dean called out as he turned. “What were you going to tell me before?”
Castiel looked at Dean. “I learned my lesson while back in heaven,” he said as he walked out.
“What was that?” Amelia asked.
“That was an angel,” Astiratu answered. “One I am apparently going to have to corrupt all over again, but hey, corruption can fun.”
“Can we go home now?” Sam sighed.
“Nope,” Dean answered.
“Why?” Sam asked.
“Because Bobby needs us. He called while you were doing your thing in the bathroom this morning. I told him we’d be over as soon as we were done babysitting. We’re done babysitting.”
They drove to Bobby’s and he was waiting for them. “Well, thanks for shaking a tail,” he said as he motioned for them to follow them to his basement.
“Anything for you, Bobby,” Dean nodded.
Bobby opened the door to his panic room. “Go on,” he motioned to Sam. “I wanna show you something.”
Sam walked in while the others hung back. “What’s this big problem?” Sam asked curiously as he turned around.
“You,” Bobby answered as he slammed the door closed and locked it from the outside.
