2 years later
She slowly pushed the stroller up the ramp and then down on the moist earth. The wheels of the stroller dug into the soft ground, but she had no trouble navigating it to her destination, which was a small bench below a tree. There was a cool breeze, but the mid October afternoon was still warm enough to enjoy the outside world for a while. After checking on the sleeping toddler in the stroller, she sat down and slowly rubbed her tired eyes.
The physical toll of the stress of the last 2 years was evident in her sad blue eyes, and grey streaked blonde hair. Her body was still supple, but the ache in her heart was now accompanied by an aching body. Her lover Jason had long since departed from her life, and the life of his son as well, but she didn’t ache for him. Her daughter, likewise had deserted from her life when she found out about her true father. Even though Chuck knew he wasn’t her biological father, he left a sizable trust fund for her, and Jess for her part, still carried the name Bartowski.
She came here every day, and always at sunset. The fading light painted the stone monuments a mixture of orange and yellow, which brought her some level of comfort each day. The ache in her heart was constant, and although she loved her new son, she couldn’t help but feel for all that she lost. She was in mourning, not only for Chuck, but also for her former life.
The fallen leaves of the oak trees provided that familiar fragrance of autumn, which also helped. She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply, letting the air fill her lungs and held it slightly before exhaling. Repeating the process several times she became aware of the sounds of crunching leaves as someone walked in her general direction.
Her senses alerted, she gripped the small 25 caliber she kept in her ankle holster, and disengaged the safety. She could deduce the general direction of approach from the increasing sound and focused on a large oak tree to her left. Even though she was no longer a spy, she still had enemies and always kept a gun on her person for just these events.
The sound intensified and a tall man wearing an overcoat came into view.
“Agent Walker,” the figure said.
“Do you have the information,” she queried all the while keeping the gun hidden in her pocket.
“Right here,” he said as he reached into his his coat.
“Slow,” she said and removed the gun.
“Take it easy Agent Walker,” he said as he pulled out an envelope and held it up.
“Put it on the ground and back away.”
The man wordlessly did as she said then casually backed away.
“Nice seeing you again Agent Walker,” the man said as he melted into the background and vanished.
She quickly approached the envelope and tore into the contents.

Six weeks later the Cotswolds.
The first few rays of dawn were beginning to loosen the dark hold of the night, and she could finally see the target without the need for a scope. She crawled under the drooping branches of a pine tree, and slowly approached the estate, surveying the grounds.
The lush manicured gardens and green sloping hills seemed right out of an English postcard, and while the cold misting rain was a hinderance to her going, it was not too bad for England in early December.
Lights began to appear in windows as the occupants of the estate began to wake up. Sarah has been in this position before, but this was first time that she was in this position without the intention of taking a life.
She felt tired and cold and slowly closed her eyes. She was too old for this now, but she needed to know for sure. She glasses the house one more time with her scope then heard the click behind her.
“You’re dead Walker. You’re getting sloppy,” the familiar voice said.
“I am. I always knew it would be you,” Sarah said sadly.
“You had every chance in the world Walker. You just wouldn’t do it.”
“I couldn’t do it.”
“Bullshit! You had a choice. You made it, end of story.”
“I came her because..,”
“I know,” the voice interrupted.
“You needed to know.”
“Yes I did,” Sarah said as she turned over and looked up at a very pregnant Carina.
“He doesn’t know you’re here,” Carina said while keeping the gun pointed at her.
“How long,” Sarah asked.
“Not till after he left.”
“Carina let me talk to him,” Sarah said as she tried to get up.
“Stay where you are,” Carina said kicking her down with her foot.
“Go home Walker. Go home to your family.”
“He is my family Carina.”
“No he isn’t.”
“Carina put the gun down you won’t kill me.”
“Don’t test me Sarah. I will not hesitate to protect my family from anyone. Even you,” she said removing the safety.
Just then Chuck came out of the house carrying a car seat and loading it into the suv.
Sarah tried to push her way up, but Carina held her down.
“You see that’s my family down there Sarah, and nothing in this world means more to me. Go home to your son Sarah. Go home to your life.”
“Carina...,”
“He’s my husband Sarah. We were married over a year ago,” Carina said showing her the ring.
“Married,” Sarah said thunderstruck.
“Yes. We fell in love after he left. We didn’t want to waste any more time on nonsense,” she said a not so subtle jab at Sarah’s lifestyle.
“I don’t understand .....,”
“He loved you Sarah. I’m sure he still does, but he was through hurting. He regrets sending you after his mother and has paid the price for that. But it’s over Sarah.”
“But we had a life together..”
“Built on lies. He was never unfaithful to you and put up with all of your crap because he felt guilty.”
“But when your lover Lafayette was going to kill him, he finally woke up. And then you do this shit again with a fucking intern?”
Sarah said nothing, she just layback and quietly cried.
“Oh God. What do I do,” she said finally.
“Go home Sarah. There is nothing for you here,” Carina said as she turned and walked away.
Sarah lay there for a few more minutes before she finally got up and slowly walked back in the direction that she came. Never turning back to look at the house.
