The trees were turning brown this time of the year in rural Georgia. Not that Daryl Dixon would have noticed. He zipped down the road as fast as he could on his motorcycle, looking for somewhere, anywhere that might possibly have what he needed. He was a man possessed, on a mission, no going back until it completed.
He drove for what seemed like hundreds of miles and thousands of days. Of course it wasn’t, not really.
It was on his second day of driving that he found a place that seemed promising: Eddie’s Pharmaceuticals off of State Route 285.
He drove around the entire building to make sure that there wasn’t any sign of walkers within the vicinity. He wanted to ensure that he could get in and get out with very little trouble.
He parked his bike up on the sidewalk and climbed off. He grabbed his knife, his crossbow, his bag, and a shotgun just in case. The doors to the pharmacy were unlocked so he tapped a few times with his knuckles and waited to see if any walkers would come to the front. If they did, he was ready.
But no walkers ever came. He waited out there for almost a half hour and there was no sign, no trace of any walkers. He threw open the door, turned his flashlight on and marched inside to see what was left.
And there wasn’t a whole lot left. His heart dropped. He had come all this way, found nothing else that looked like it was remotely promising, put all his hopes on this stop, and there was nothing to show for it.
He could not resign himself to the fact that she was going to die. He loved her too much. Surely God wouldn’t take someone away from him that he had loved so deeply and passionately. The end of the world was enough. He didn’t have to take her from him. Not this way. It was almost cruel.
Daryl went up and down the rows looking for antibiotics that he thought might help her, but he kept coming up empty handed. He jumped back over the counter and picked up his bag and began heading towards the exit.
He was lost in his own head, deep in thought. He was not paying attention to where he was going and with no warning clipped his foot on the end of a cabinet and tumbled face first to the ground. Hurting, embarrassed and heart broken, he started to get back up on his feet when he noticed what looked like white pill bottles underneath a box in the far corner. He stood up and dusted himself off and rushed over to it. He lifted the box up and sure enough, there they were. 6 bottles of amoxicillin. This was his saving grace. This was the answer to his prayers. This would save his love.
Daryl ran with great speed out the door, jumped on his bike and sped back down the road towards home. His only hope was that she was still alive when he got back.
Hold on Melanie, I’m coming, he thought.
Daryl pulled through the gates of the prison and hopped off his bike. He ran through the mess hall and into the cellblock. Rick and the others had cleared it out while he was gone. He saw Hershel’s shadow standing in the entrance of the last cell and he made his way over to them.
“How’s she doin’? Is she….?”he said loud enough for everyone to hear. Lori, Rick and Hershel all turned and looked in his direction.
“Well, son,” said Hershel, “She’s weak. She is barely holding on, but she is a fighter. I think she was waiting for you.”
“She aint gonna die. Get some water. Need ta get these pills in her system.”
“Where did you get those?” asked Rick. “There isn’t a pharmacy for miles.”
“Was a long trip man….Too long..But I’d go to the ends of the earth for her.” Daryl said.
Hershel walked back into the cell with a cup of cool water in his hand.
“Im going to need you to help me sit her up, Daryl. We can’t give it to her while she’s laying down. She will choke.”
Daryl climbed up on the bed by Melanie’s head and hoisted her up by wrapping his arms underneath her shoulders and lifted her into a sitting position. Hershel was right. She was weak. She did not have the strength to even hold her own head up.
Hershel opened her mouth and placed two pills inside and tilted the cup of water to her lips and let it flow into her mouth. She swallowed and immediately became dizzy and groaned, wanting to be laid back down.
“Let’s let her rest.” Hershel said. He motioned to Rick and Lori to leave the cell.
But Daryl stayed behind. He picked Melanie’s hand up and gave it a soft kiss.
He started to walk away, and just as he was almost out the door he heard her voice, soft and faint.
“Daryl.”she whispered……
He stood frozen in the doorway….He wasn’t sure if he was hallucinating, but then he heard it again.
“Daryl….”was all she managed to get out.
“Mel?” replied Daryl. “Was that you? Ya need to rest darlin’.”
“Daryl…..Please…….Let me go……..Weak…….No….Air…….Hurts………Chest…”she softly said in shaky, shallow breaths.
“Hold on, Mel. Your gonna be alright. Gotta get these meds in your system and then you’ll be back to bein a pain in my ass in no time.”he winked at her…
Melanie’s hands were cold and her breathing became even more shallow…..She knew this was the end for her. No way was she coming back from this no matter how optimistic he was.
“Love….You…..Daryl……………………………………………………..Goodbye.”and with that last word, Melanie blacked out and that was it…
``````````````````````````````````````````Eight Days Later`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Everyone waited with baited breath, hoping that Melanie would make a full recovery. She had been unconscious for eight days and it was only this morning that she had woken up.
Daryl was a nervous wreck. He hadn’t gone hunting or anything since Melanie had gone unconscious. He hadn’t eaten. He hadn’t slept. All he could do was sit outside on the steps and wait. Wait for her to wake up or wait for news that she was gone.
“Daryl…….Ive been looking all over for you. I need you to come with me now.” Hershel said as he came out the door into the yard.
“Where’s Melanie? Is she ok? What’s goin’ on old man?” Daryl said with a low growl.
He walked into the cell block behind Hershel. He turned the corner and there she was standing up right in front of him, only a few feet away. She was leaned over the dining table reading a note that Carl was writing.
She looked up when she heard their footsteps and almost immediately her eyes locked with Daryl’s.
She pushed off of the table and sped across the room as fast as she could and threw herself into Daryl’s arms. He instinctly wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close. His nose nuzzled her hair, taking in her smell, and his hands roamed her back searching for the faintest little bit of exposed skin.
It had been too long since they were last together. He knew that they could not do anything, not with her still recovering, but he just wanted to feel her body against his, even if that meant they would simply have to settle to lying naked cuddled up in bed. He didn’t care.
Melanie wrapped her arms around Daryl’s neck and pulled his face close to hers.
In a voice so soft that only he could hear it, she said “I love you Daryl….I was so afraid I was going to leave you..”and she began to cry. A simple cry turned into sobs and Daryl tightened their embrace. “Daryl, I’m all finished in here. Do you want to come upstairs and lay down with me. My legs are starting to feel like jelly. I need to get off my feet and rest for a little while.”
“Well, actually, Daryl is supposed to be on watch soon.” Rick piped in.
But Lori cut him off before he could finish his sentence. “But I’m sure someone else wouldn’t mind taking over, since you two haven’t spent ANY time together in a very long time. We all understand how important intimacy is.” And she shot a look in Rick’s direction that said Don’t fuck with me.
Melanie took Daryl’s hand and led him up the stairs and down the railing to the end of the row of cells. This was her room. She would have been happy to stay in the room she had been in while ill, but Hershel and Glenn thought it would be best to transfer her to a completely fresh room, free of sickness.
“I’m kinda nervous,” Melanie said with a slight chuckle and the hint of a smile on her face. “It’s been a while since we have been alone, ya know, since ive been sick and all.”
“S’ alright Mel. We aint gotta do nothin’. I’m a big boy. I can control myself.” But the truth was he couldn’t. He was itching to touch her, to feel her, to caress her, to make love to her. He wanted to show her how much he had missed her and how he loved her even more now than he did before she got sick.
“Well, Glenn moved another mattress in here so we have more room to sleep now. If we had kept the smaller mattress, you would have been poking me in the back with your elbows in no time.” Melanie grinned, and gave Daryl a sly wink.
Daryl waited for Melanie to make a move first. He wasn’t sure how this was gonna go. He didn’t want to strip down if Melanie was not going to do the same. That would be awkward. So he waited…..and waited…and waited….
Finally Melanie began to undress. “It is stifling in here, Daryl. Its times like this I really miss all the amenities of home.” She removed her shirt and began unbuttoning the top of her jeans. Daryl just watched. She was stunning. She pushed the jeans down her legs and kicked them off, leaving them in a heap on the floor. “Gosh, I miss air conditioning…”she said.
“Never had air conditioning, not in my house anyway.”Daryl said.
“Really? You never had air conditioning?” she asked.
“Nah. We lived in the woods. Out in the middle of nowhere. No cable. No internet. No air conditioning. Just us, the woods, and the critters.”
“Wow…” was all she could say.
Daryl removed his shirt and unhooked his belt from his belt loops and pulled it off in one swift, fluid movement. All he had left was his boxer briefs.
He had always been a boxers man, but given that the world had ended, he had to make due. Melanie had picked these up for him while she was on a run, so he wore them proudly.
Melanie laid down on the mattress and pressed her back into Daryl’s chest as they laid on their sides.
“I missed bein’ like this with ya,”he said. “Missed feelin that little body of yours up against mine, missed the feel of ya soft skin under my hands. Missed other things to, but ya know we can’t do any of that right now til ya all the way better.”
“Daryl……” Melanie rolled over on to her left side so that they were face to face and chest to chest. “I’m not made of glass you know?”
She pushed herself as close to him as she could get. She began lightly rubbing circles with her fingertips in the little patches of chest hair around his nipples.
He loved it when she did that. It sent chills down his spine. Just the slightest touch and he was gone.
Daryl reached behind her and unclasped her bra. He slid the straps down her arms and removed it, throwing it effortlessly across the cell. Her breasts were pressed up against him and he could feel her warmth. She must have still had the slightest touch of a fever because her body was hot.
Melanie moved her hand lower, down Daryl’s chest and across his taut stomach. She paused her hand below his belly button while she took one of his nipples in his mouth. She gently ran her tongue all around the edge and lightly flicked the tip before taking it in her mouth and sucking on it.
Daryl’s hands moved from her back down to the hem of her panties. He hooked his fingers underneath the material and slid them down her legs. She kicked them off of the mattress. Her hands continued their descent downward and she grasped onto the waist of Daryl’s boxers and yanked them down. She sat up and nestled herself between his ankles and pulled his boxers all the way down and off. Daryl had rolled onto his back to allow her to get his boxers off easier and before he had time to return to his previous position, she was laying on top of his body.
As much as Daryl liked where this was heading, he wasn’t sure that the should be doing this right now. He wanted her, that was obvious, but she had just gotten better and wasn’t fully herself just yet.
Melanie was sprawled out across Daryl’s chest leaving feather light kisses all over. Her knees were straddled across his waist. Her warm center was placed directly over Daryl’s very hard cock. But she made no move to allow him access inside her.
“Mel,” Daryl said between kisses. “We should wait…..Ya just got over pneumonia….Are you sure you wanna be doin this?”
She sat up and looked down at him. “This is all I have thought about for days now. When I was unconscious, you were the thing I concentrated on. I tried to wake myself up so many times. I imagined your face, your voice, your body calling to me, begging me to come back to you.”
Daryl sat up, Melanie still straddling his lap. He slowly reached between them and guided his cock to the opening of Melanie’s center and slowly pushed himself inside. She lowered herself completely down onto his hard member and didn’t move.
“Don’t know what I woulda done if Id lost ya…”he said, his face buried in her neck. He places a trail kisses all along her jawline and neck and then brought her lips to his and kissed her passionately.
“Daryl, I love you,” she gasped as she felt Daryl’s dick spasm inside of her. “Please make love to me. Im begging you.”
“Your mine, forever…..”He started to pick up speed with his thrusts.He could feel his impending orgasm building. It wouldn’t be long now. Melanie ground herself down on to him and she could feel his cock rubbing against her clit every time he would pull out. This sent her over the edge.
“Ahhhh….Daryl…OHMIGOD!! Im so close…Please don’t stop….Right there…Oooh”
They were both so close. “Ya all mine, girl. I love ya and I want ya always. Whether in this life or the next.” Daryl thrusted a few more times and then came, the most intense orgasm he had had with her so far.
Melanie met her release seconds later. She wrapped her arms around Daryl and kissed him.
She rubbed her nose against Daryl’s and then looked deep into his beautiful blue eyes and they fell backwards on the bed and laid on their sides facing each other.
Melanie spoke first and said “What are we gonna do now? This place seems amazing!! Perfect place for a family… Strong walls and fences. Showers, tables, water. We could even plant crops down there in the yard. What do you think?”
Daryl just looked into her beautiful green eyes that shone with excitement and wonder and……hope… He cupped her face in his hands and simply said “Anything is possible Mel, as long as we’re together.”
