(Open in the observation room of the Excelsior, from episode 3-14. Janet stands in front of the window, staring at the giant planet below. Perez enters)
Perez: Hey, Janet.
Janet: Hey, Damerae.
Perez: You're not worrying about your sister are you? (stands beside Janet, looks at the planet)
Janet: No. No, I've been trying to be productive, so I won't think of her.
Perez: Ah. And what have you produced?
Janet: Some ideas of how we can support Vertag after we get Jamie. I'll have to run them by some military experts, like you, but-
Perez: (turns to face Janet) Janet, what are you talking about?
Janet: (turns to face Perez) Vertag. He'll need support. They'll never stop searching for him. Him and Lessala.
Perez: But... That's not our mission. We came here to find and rescue humans. Not giants. And certainly not to directly interfere with giant politics.
Janet: No, I know that, but he's on the run, he's become a rebel because of us. Because of me. We can't abandon him.
Perez: (takes Janet by the arms) I really don't think that's our fault, but I know it's not our mission. Seriously.
Janet: But we've helped them!
Perez: As long as they're helping rescue humans, they're serving our goals. And as long as they're keeping the tech in Jamie's head out of giant hands, they're serving us. But if we get Jamie out, the Fleet isn't going to stay in orbit a minute after the shuttle docks.
Janet: He'll be-
Perez: Fine. He knew what he was getting into. They both did. They're prepared and they're professionals. Once they stop having to help us, they'll be free to do whatever they have to, to survive.
Janet: But if they overthrow their government, that'll make Earth safer!
Perez: And maybe you can convince Congress of that, same way you helped convince them to set up the Exchange. We'll come back. But we're way over budget. Everyone's wondering why we're still here.
Janet: For Jamie!
Perez: Right, right, right. Of course, if she didn't have such lethal technology in that head of hers, we might just ask Vertag to keep her safe and head home.
Janet: Damerae!
Perez: Sorry. Look, if it was up to me, we'd nuke their politicians and let them rebuild. I'd give Vertag a light saber and all the info in Brown's database and the shrinking potion and the gianting potion and the robots and everything. But it's not. It's up to other people.
Janet: I... I know. But they're so... They're friends, Damerae.
Perez: Yep. The whole garrison is willing to storm down there, for you, your sister, the giants. Our giants, anyway. But the Admiral answers to people who don't see Vertag as anything but another Giant, a bully from the Land of the Giants.
Janet: I hear you. So I guess I should be writing goodbyes, not plans.
Perez: Oh, Janet. I wish it could be different. (they embrace.)
Janet: I just really wanted to introduce him to my mom's crabcakes, you know?
Perez: Sounds like something Styles would say.
Janet: No. Styles doesn't share seafood.

(Open inside a giant sedan traveling on a highway. Dordell is a passenger in the front seat. Some SID agent drives. Lessala is in the back seat, heavily restrained. Dordell has an arm on the seat back, talking to her.)
Dordell: ...stationed all over 2nd Nation. Except for Tettskin. He's watching Vertag's parents' ranch.
Lessala: You really think he'd show up there?
Dordell: No. I just need some place to put people that might be loyal to him out of the way.
Lessala: So where are we going?
Dordell: There was a Vertag sighting in Central. I want to talk to the cops that think they saw him.
Lessala: And why am I here?
Dordell: I just enjoy your company.
Lessala: You enjoy it more behind a locked door. (He laughs. She gazes out the window) I'm bait.
Dordell: Could be.
Lessala: You think once he knows I'm in custody, he'll come to you. To your trap.
Dordell: Could be. When you don't rendezvous with him, he'll start to worry that you're captured.
Lessala: (shakes her head) He doesn't know I'm even on the planet. I was supposed to evacuate with the humans.
Dordell: On one of their little flying security tanks? That's what picked them up. You wouldn't have fit inside.
Lessala: Well, yeah. The humans changed the plan. But Vertag doesn't know that.
Dordell: Nope. They wouldn't have changed the plan until they had this Smith woman.
Lessala: They didn't know they didn't have the Smith woman. They just never intended to take us back to Earth. Vertag's not looking for me.
Dordell: We'll see. (Fade out)
(Fade in on a giant street corner. The camera view angles past a street sign that says Manfire Thoroughfare. Centered in the screen is a doorway to a small apartment building. The door opens and Vertag steps out. He looks left and right, then turns to walk towards the camera. The POV descends slowly as he approaches.)
Vertag: Well, that's taken care of.
Jamie (voice): I didn't understand any of that.
Vertag: It's alright. I'll explain later.
Jamie (voice): Why not now?
Vertag: Because I'm apparently the only man on the street having a conversation with his pocket.
Jamie (voice): Oh. Oops. (Vertag smiles and shakes his head. Just as he reaches the spot where the camera seems to be, he looks to the right and freezes.)
Vertag: Oh, crap.
Jamie (voice): SID?
Vertag: Worse.
(Camera turns and we see he's standing in front of a café. There's a table in the window. Millious is drinking coffee and smiling through the glass at Vertag. Fade out)
(Fade in to the Excelsior's conference room. There are several high-ranking officers, Adams and Perez. Janet is not among them. The Admiral is running the meeting)
Admiral: (Pointing at a map of 1st Nation. Dots here and there form a grid covering about 30% of the land mass in splotches centered around cities) ...And while they don't pose a risk to us in this orbit, they are extending their sensor network. We can't get anything that isn't stealthed close to the ground anywhere they've built the net.
Adams: Can we stealth the assault craft?
Officer1: Not on this platform. We'd have to ferry them to Earth for that kind of alteration.
Officer2: The good news, they only have about 30% of the continent covered and they're concentrated in urban areas. If your giant can signal us from the wilderness areas, we can get down there.
Perez: Could that be what they want, though?
Admiral: What do you mean?
Perez: They really don't want to shoot down the shuttle over their cities. Maybe they want to herd us to areas they can deploy some superweapon, and worry less about collateral damage.
Officer1: Has the directorate ever really struck you as worried about collateral damage?
Perez: Not on 2nd Nation. But 1st Nation is their home. They're a bit more protective.
Adams: That's a point.
Officer3: So whatever we do, they are going to notice us.
Officer1: Which means it'll have to be a very fast grab.
Officer4: Expecting a superweapon.
Adams: Which would mean the shuttle.
Admiral: I don't mean to sound heartless, but if they're going to shoot anything down, I'd rather lose the assault craft than the shuttle.
Adams: But the shuttle has the best chance of engaging...this hypothetical threat, and surviving. The AC have fewer defenses.
Officer3: And the shuttle can get down and back up faster.
Officer2: They'll see it coming from farther away, though.Officer3: But they'll have less time to react.
Admiral: Alright. Alright. I'll take all of this under consideration. (Points to Officer3) Keep looking for signs of weapons testing. (3 nods) (Points to Officers 2 and 4) I want some mission plans and some numbers. Fastest we can evacuate Smith using the shuttle, fastest with assault craft. Possible decoys or ways to confuse the giants. (2 and 4 nod) (Points to Officer5) And just in case, take those plans and figure out what changes if we're going to use the shrinking potion on one or two giants to get them up. (5 looks surprised, but nods)
Adams: Admiral?
Admiral: The president's granddaughters are very worried about what will happen to our giant friends after we abandon them to the giant government.
Perez: They're going to pile bodies like cord wood.
Admiral: Possibly. And the president has directed us not to offer them anything like asylum if they don't ask for it first. And it's only a contingency right now. But if we can feasibly save them, without a substantial increase in risk to Smith or the crews, we should consider it.
Adams: That's... Sir, the mere possibility is going to make some Marines very happy.
Perez: And a liaison.
Admiral: No. Do NOT share this information outside of this room. Especially with Miss Crane. As I said, they have to ask for it. Without coaching. Am I understood?
Adams: Perfectly, sir. (fade out)
(Fade in to a giant park. Vertag sits at a picnic table across from Millious. Both have soda cups and some take-out snack food.)
Vertag: Do I even want to know what you're doing here?
Millious: Oh, yes. You want to know what I've been doing since we parted. And what I want from you. And where Lessala is.
Vertag: She's in orbit.
Millious: No, but you're not ready to hear that yet.
Vertag: Alright. Hi, Millious! How have you been? What have you been up to all this time? You look good! I think you've lost weight! Have you shot anyone I know?
Millious: (smiles slightly) I have learned a lot since you took my organization apart. I've learned that cooperative cells are good security, but very unwieldy in a crisis.
Vertag: And since rebels get most of their work done by generating crises, that should be annoying.
Millious: It is. So. I've been creating ties to other organizations and your pocket is moving.
Vertag: Sorry. She's probably just getting cramped. (he looks around the park, picks up a cookie and slips it into his pocket.)
Jamie (voice): Um...anything to drink? (he dips the cookie in the soda, then into his pocket) Mmm. Thanks.
Millious: Anyway, I've established contacts with rebel organizations in all four nations.
Vertag: You've been busy.
Millious: I have. So, long story short, I know that Dordell has been given sweeping powers to find you and stop your traitorous treason, and that he has Lessala in his custody.
Vertag: Aw, crap. (thinks for a minute) And how did you find me?
Millious: Dordell has a report that maps your movements since you were two. Contacts, friends, assignments, places you lived, people you dated, people you arrested. He's looking for a pattern to anticipate your movements.
Vertag: And you....?
Millious: Essentially, I turned the map upside down, looking for where you'd never been and went there.
Vertag: (shakes his head) Brilliant, but my grandparents used to live here. I visited for a few summers. Your system wouldn't lead you here.
Millious: Okay, maybe Stogga saw you at the airport and he called me instead of Dordell.
Vertag: I might believe that. But Stogga's in Mining City.
Millious: Well, I'm here. However I got here, whoever recognized you at the airport, it really doesn't matter. You want to know why.
Vertag: You want me to ask your help getting Lessala free, so I'll owe you something so you can ask me for how I got into SID Headquarters.
Millious: You got into SID? How?
Vertag: (stares)
Millious: Oh, right. Okay. Okay. Yeah. That wasn't what I wanted when I got here, but... Wait, can I use the same method?
Vertag: If they haven't figured it out, yet. Sure.
Millious: Alright. You wanna make a deal like that? Or do you need to run it past your cookie pocket first?
Jamie (voice): (plaintively) He never asks the cookie monster what he should do.
Vertag: (shakes his head) I can't risk the cookie pocket getting hurt while we get Lessala. Janet would jump down from orbit to tear my heart out with her bare hands.
Millious: Okay. Maybe after you repatriate your little friend? (she pulls a piece of paper from her pocket) My contact info-
Vertag: (rips a side off the bag the snacks came in and starts writing) There's a bank in Industry City. This safety deposit box has the instructions I got from the Order. (slides the paper across to her). Use it how you want.
Millious: (half-smile as she glances at the paper. She talks as she folds it and pockets it.) Is this a down payment on my help?
Vertag: No. Just...cause mayhem and/or confusion upon my enemy.
Millious: Your former bosses.
Vertag: Them.
Millious: And Lessala?
Vertag: My problem. But I have to wait.
Millious: Okay. (she stands) Hey, if you did spend time here, doesn't that mean Dordell is going to show up here eventually? I can give you a ride out of town.
Vertag: Don't need it. I've never been in this town before in my life. (smiles)
Millious: (Frowns, then shrugs) Later, Vertag.
Vertag: I hope not. (she walks off. He gathers the trash)
Jamie (voice): Do you like, lie to everyone?
Vertag: I never tell lies, Jamie.
Jamie (voice): (thoughtful silence for a moment) And why didn't Janet ever shoot you? (Fade out)
(Fade in, interior of Dordell's car, camera looking in from over the front hood.)
Lessala: You really mean to just drive around until-
(She pauses, looking to the right.)
(Cut to a few through the passenger window. Millious is paused on the sidewalk, staring at the camera (presumably at Lessala in the back seat))
(Cut to car interior seen from over the hood.)
Dordell: (Facing forward like the driver) Until he learns you're in custody, yeah. Figure someone's going to tell him.
Lessala: (shaking her head) Who?
Dordell: Someone. He's got to have access to some sort of network. No one could move around and avoid SID attention alone.
Lessala: We did.
Dordell: (turns to face Lessala) I have to point out that you're- (Driver's eyes widen)
Driver: Sir! (Everyone looks forward)
(Cut to a view out through the front windshield. Vertag is on the sidewalk. He sees the car, turns to run)
(Cut to the interior-from-hood view)
Dordell: Get him!
(Driver grimaces, floors the gas, car surges. There's a metallic clink. Lessala releases some of her restraints, wraps the chain around the driver's neck. Car starts to swerve. Horns sound. Dordell pulls out his gun and aims at Lessala's head)
Dordell: Let him go, bi-
(Cut to street view. Sedan shoots through intersection, veers to one side. We hear a gunshot. Car hits a light pole, stops. Horn sounds.)
