“So are you here alone?” He asked, his words slipping down her throat like liquor. Unusually nervous, she bit her lip again, trying to conceal her electric frustration. Chloe’s sharp eyes caught his eyes narrowing, suddenly focused intently on her mouth. A sweet wickedness slid through her, and very deliberately, her tongue darted out to moisten her bottom lip, very quickly so it seemed perfectly innocent. But she knew better.
His eyes burned darkly, as his gaze caught hers again. Her eyes were wide, her façade of innocence hiding her devilish glee. But his eyes were smoldering embers, and a sharp thought pierced her mind, slicing through the veil.
He knew it wasn’t innocent.
Lex was so close she could breathe him in, a strong scent of earth, smoke, and shadow. She didn’t dare move, the fear of what he might do sent shivers of anticipation licking up and down her spine. Chloe held his gaze, heart pounding in an erratic rhythm, mind slowing into complete stillness. The silence was thick and restless, suffocating her slowly with its heavy weight. But the moment, soft and motionless as moonlight, held her captive in its thrall until she could no longer stand its chains.
“Yes, I am here alone.” Her words bit through the air like a cold blade, shattering the moment into glittering shards of silver. Lex’s eyes, spiraling shadows, did not change, still as dark and intense as ever. Chloe tensed slightly, trying to hide her struggle to breathe, hoping he wouldn’t notice though she knew he saw through her like glass.
“Miss Sullivan,” Lex began, words dark and aristocratic and feral, “Even when there’s no trouble to be found, you always manage to stumble right into it. I think it’s best you go home before…”
Chloe cocked her head to the side, never looking away. “Before what?” The question was innocent, its meaning lethal.
“Before you get yourself into more trouble than you can handle.” The warning was thick and intoxicating, his voice ebony thunder. Chloe recognized the challenge and saw the danger churning in his eyes, but when had she ever backed down from a fight? Ignoring the delicious ache that kissed its way across her skin and along her spine, courage roaring through her veins, she stepped even closer to him boldly, no more than a breath separating them.
“I can take care of myself, Luther. I kind of like a little trouble. Besides, I’m not afraid.” She tossed her golden hair in defiance, eyes blazing.
Before she knew what was happening, Lex moved, faster than shadow, one hand tangling in her hair to hold her still, the other burning into the small of her back, pulling her to him fiercely until nothing but silk and leather stood between them. Chloe almost gasped at the burning sweetness of him, but bit her tongue lest she reveal too much. He held her captive in his glare, dark and smoldering, his fingers scorching the back of her neck, until all awareness faded and Chloe could think of nothing but him.
“Really, Miss Sullivan?” Lex purred darkly, malice and midnight. So slowly, as if time was holding its breath, he lowered his head to hers, so close his breath was sticky sweet on her lips and Chloe couldn’t help but shudder.
“You should be.” And suddenly he was kissing her, hungrily, passionately, desperately, and Chloe never wanted him to stop. His mouth was hard and soft at the same time, and he tasted of darkness and smoke and liquor and was so sinfully sweet that Chloe was drowning in him. That deep burning within her soul blazed furiously and consumed her, and she kissed him hungrily, her fingers clutching him fiercely. His hands pulled her even harder against him, and Chloe nearly choked on a moan, starving for him. But Lex faded away softly, a soft chuckle burning in the silence. She glanced up at him, eyes wide in shock, mouth swollen slightly. When she saw the glint of amusement in his eyes, she nearly growled. Well, if that’s how he wanted to play, so be it.
“What’s wrong Miss Sullivan? Scared?” Lex mocked, smirking like Lucifer himself. For a moment, Chloe played along, blushing sweetly, breathing softly. She lowered her arms, keeping up the aura of stunned innocence. When she saw his feral grin widen, Chloe smiled to herself. Now it was really time to play.
~ Interlude ~
Lex knew he had won until he saw that smile. Sweet, crimson, and sinful. He had seen that smile before and it had led to nothing but trouble. Confusion clouded him for an instant when Chloe leaned forward suddenly and kissed his exposed collarbone.
Oh shit, he thought, sensing the danger and trying to escape, to pull away from her delicious mouth. But Chloe already had imprisoned him, one hand gripping his hip firmly, the other clutching his lower back. He felt that small, dangerous hand sneak beneath his silk shirt, dance across his skin all the way up to the nape of his neck. Then, so slowly, she dragged one nail all the way down his spine, and Lex couldn’t help but shiver. But while she had distracted him with her hands, Chloe had kissed her way to his neck, soft and wicked. Lex closed his eyes, summoning his renowned self-control, swallowing any reactions to her touch. He could do it, he knew he could. Lex kept still and silent, and for a moment he thought he had won again.
Until she bit him.
“Oh fuck,” he growled. He pulled her off of him, seizing control of her mouth once more. She was fucking delicious, tasting of strawberries and sin. Nothing had ever tasted this good. He crushed her against him, and she purred wickedly, clutching him to her. She was soft and wild against him, nails raking across his skin, the sweet pain just inflaming him further. His hands burned their way down her back to the luscious curve of her hips and pulled her to him fiercely, until they were flush against each other.
Everything touching.
She broke away suddenly, and Lex grinned in satisfaction as she gasped for air, lips pink and swollen, sapphire eyes blazing. He watched, fascinated by every move, every breath, as her eyes flickered close. He had never noticed how long her eyelashes were, fluttering dark against her pale cheek. Her golden hair was in wild disarray, shards of sunlight in the darkness. Chloe moaned, sweet and whisper soft, and Lex could feel his heart ache painfully, beating erratically in his chest. He was utterly captivated by this girl, liquid gold and light, breathing in his arms. It hurt to look at her, but Lex couldn’t turn away. He didn’t want to admit defeat, that this wisp of a girl that tasted of daybreak and wickedness had shaken his heart and scorched his soul, and that he would never again be the same. He couldn’t lose all that he had tried so hard to protect.
She opened her eyes, hazy blue velvet, and stared straight into his soul, unwavering. Lex bit back a gasp at the delicious shock of feeling, like a shot of liquor shooting through his blood to his brain. She smiled, honeyed silk, one small hand reaching up to his cheek, warm and soft. Lex flinched slightly, unused to such tenderness, to the feeling of warm skin against his own when it wasn’t a sexual overture. This was completely different, unfamiliar, frightening. It was sweet and gentle and compassionate, and Lex had never known a woman’s compassion. Except when she wanted something from him, of course. But Chloe’s eyes were clear, crystal truth. There were no ulterior motives, no hidden meaning. She was just a woman being held by a man. Never mind that she was a sixteen year old snoop and he was a ruthless businessman at twenty-four, never mind that she loved a hero in love with someone else and that a man like Lex Luther should not be touching her like he was. But she was looking at him like none of it mattered and suddenly none of it did.
Her thumb began to trace his cheekbone, so very softly, and her smile grew brighter, lit with star shine and sunlight. Lex could feel his mouth tweak, the beginning of a smile. Not a smirk or a sneer, but a true smile. It felt uncomfortable and new, but good. Strangely good.
Slowly, Chloe’s innocent, bright gaze darkened into something else, something sweet and wicked. She lifted her head, brushing those strawberry lips against his, burning him softly, and Lex groaned against her fiery mouth. She pulled away slightly, pinning him again with those eyes that never let go.
“Lex,” she whispered on a breath, a mix between a satisfied purr and an insatiable growl.
And Lex knew. He had to have her. She had to be his, irrevocably his, forever his own as he was hers.
Now.
