Finding Themselves
Chapter Two
Madison rubbed the soap in her hands and then reached forward to clean Vida’s back. “I’m a little worried about him, Sis.” Her long, shining hair cascaded down her wet back, in perfect compliment with her olive skin. She and her sister were as fit as the boys had become, long battles hardening their muscles. Before her stood the Pink Ranger, dyed blonde streak standing out against her short, ebony hair. Her tanned skin held the same gentle sheen from the soapy water.
The Rocca sisters often showered together to save time and water. In Rootcore, the boys were always hogging the bathroom, and at home, the ancient water heater couldn’t handle two showers in a 12-hour period. Plus, as they got older, their showers together were a brief time they could relax and just be in each other’s company. They could talk about things or just simply enjoy the non-threatening touch of someone they knew and trusted. Vida stood still while her sister rubbed her delicate hands over her toned back.
“Why? I know he was freaked out about Necrolai possessing him, but Chip didn’t hold a grudge or anything.” Vida squeezed some shampoo into her hand.
“I know, but he’s been really weird lately…snapping at me. Kind of like when Beastie got that thorn in his paw and wouldn’t let any of us get near him.” Maddie thought back to the husky her family had owned when the girls were children. Never had there been a dog more tolerant of children stepping on his paws and tail, or pulling on his ears. Even when Vida got carried away and bit him while they were wrestling, Beastie had merely laid down, pinning her under his weight until their mother showed up.
One day, the fluffy pet growled at Madison when she went to pick up his empty food bowl. She jumped back in surprise, but her father immediately knew what was wrong. He moved in swiftly and held Beastie’s paw, even as he was being bitten. He pulled the thorn from between the pads and the dog immediately calmed down. Both girls learned two important lessons that day. Sometimes someone will bite you when they really need your help, and always wear a heavy jacket when you know a dog’s going to bite your arm.
Vida and Maddie turned around together, and the Pink Ranger began massaging the shampoo into her sister’s silky hair. “Hmm, I remember what Dad did…but I don’t know if you should go looking for a burr in Nick’s hand.” Both girls giggled. “But seriously, maybe he just needs to blow off some steam.”
Maddie nodded thoughtfully and stepped under the water to rinse. When something was bothering Vida, she would usually go work out. Her sister had come back weak and exhausted many times, but thoroughly happy. Whatever problem she’d had had been pounded out of her and she was good again. Nick and Vida shared many similarities, so maybe Maddie should take Nick rock climbing or something.
The girls switched places again under the steaming water. Vida placed her soapy hands on Maddie’s back and began to rub. The Blue Ranger had such an easy time letting go of things that bothered her, Vida was a little jealous sometimes. Her sister never seemed upset or stressed out. She knew that if she didn’t get sore at the gym once in a while, she’d go batty. She could tell by the way Nick was acting that something really bad had happened while he was possessed, and if that were she, Vida would have to kick some major monster butt to feel better.
They rinsed and turned the water off. Maddie handed her sister a towel and said, “Maybe I’ll just give him a little time alone.”
Vida thought that was a wise idea, “Good choice, Sis. Are you hungry?”
Maddie rolled her eyes as she stepped out, “Let’s go hit that new drive-thru.”
At that same time in the forest, Nick was pacing back and forth. He’d hardly been able to sleep at all since Necrolai clawed her way into his body. And what he did to Chip gave him nightmares in the few minutes he did drift off. Something had to give. He’d already snapped at Madison a few times, and felt bad about it. He’d even run Phineas off, even though the troblin was trying hard to cheer him up. In the end, his forest friend had left a pile of stickleberries for him, hoping it would make him feel better.
A gigantic red and blue mythical beast watched him pace, snorting once in a while. Fireheart had tucked his wings defensively; he knew something was wrong with his master because it was reflecting in him. The dragon had tried to stay with the Red Ranger to soothe him with his presence, but nothing seemed to be working. He had even looked over Nick closely for a hidden injury because sometimes animals act angry when they’re actually hurt. Since he didn’t find anything, and Nick smelled normal, something must be nettling his human from the inside.
Nick noticed the red dragon watching him intently and turned to pet his huge snout. The beast snapped at him, his massive teeth coming together mere inches from Nick’s fingers. He drew them back, slightly hurt, and was a little surprised when Fireheart blew a small amount of flame at him. As the Red Ranger backed away so his cape wouldn’t be singed, Fireheart barked at him and launched into the air, sensing another magic-user coming. Another who could help his master get the nettle out.
Nick’s hazel eyes dropped down to the earth again as soon as the dragon was out of sight. Why had he nearly bitten him? And what was with the flame? Nick realized his bad mood must have traveled through the magic that bound Fireheart to him, and felt bad again. He paced a few more times, then sat down heavily in the grass, a red aura beginning to form around the distressed teenager.
How could he have done something like that to his best friend? Yes, he didn’t have any control of his body, but he should have been able to get at the Vampire Queen from the inside. When she had invaded his body, it was like a thick, cold blanket of slime had settled over his consciousness, binding him. He couldn’t move or speak, and shivered in fear when he felt her take over his autonomic functions. That could only mean that when she was no longer controlling his heart and lungs, they would stop because he was disconnected from them.
That’s exactly what happened too, when Chip forced her out. Very clever, the way the Yellow Ranger had done that. He had overloaded her senses, taxing her ability to control not only Nick’s systems, but her own actions while containing Nick’s battling consciousness. Knowing she couldn’t keep up, Necrolai fled the same way she had entered, through Nick’s mouth. As Nick’s body dropped, panic filled him. His body would die an empty husk without his mind to support it! It was a stroke of supreme luck that Madison came when she did. Her Mermaid magic lifted the heavy slime and reforged the connection between his mind and body. That first breath had been the sweetest air he’d ever had.
But the whole time Necrolai had been in him, Nick could do nothing but struggle impotently against her control. A spark of hope lit when he saw Chip, but that turned to revulsion as he watched her violate his best friend. Chip had figured out that something was wrong with him and wisely sealed them in. As they fought hand-to-hand, Nick was impressed at Chip’s improved skills. The fact that he was beating Necrolai rallied the Red Ranger. However, while Chip may have had the upper hand on Necrolai in combat skills, she had all of them beat by a long shot in magical skills.
The Vampire Queen had been alive for centuries, possibly even millennia, and had all that time to hone her magic. When she drew on Nick’s mystic power, it was like she was forcing herself upon him. He felt a little violated as well. Very much so when she cast that spell that pulled Chip’s powers from him at his moment of most energy. The bolt the Lightening Ranger had unwittingly produced had seared Necrolai’s eyes and singed Nick’s body. Nick was shocked Chip had so much power, and that was just the physical manifestation, too.
The second time Chip surprised the trapped Red Ranger with his power had been when he drew out Necrolai. Even through the yellow, pain-induced haze, Nick could tell that Chip was carefully controlling a new found strength, barely scratching the surface of the available power. He couldn’t have been more proud of his friend at that moment.
Although Chip was an incredibly powerful wizard and friend, he was still a human being. Nick had tried to apologize, and Chip had accepted, but the Fire Ranger knew it was not even close to adequate. Chip had closed himself off to Nick now, keeping their interactions on a superficial level. The Garuda Ranger had acted no less bravely in battle than usual, in fact, his attacks had been more swift and powerful than ever, but he had begun excluding himself from the victory celebrations. Even the little ones like high-fives or hugs from the girls. Chip was alone, and Nick wanted to help. Not wanted, but needed to help.
He looked up determinedly, and was startled to see a red aura disappear from around him. He was even more surprised to see Xander picking himself up from the forest floor ten feet away, holding his head in his hands. Nick leaped up and ran to his friend, helping him stand the rest of the way. “Xander? You okay?”
The Green Ranger settled his cape on his shoulders and stared at his friend in shock. He dropped his hands to his side and took a step back, weaving a little. Nick couldn’t understand what was going on and steadied his friend. “What? What’s wrong?”
“Is that what happened?” the tallest teenager asked. Nick went pale, but Xander continued, “I was just coming to tell you Claire finished the protection potion when my head was filled with pictures.” This time, Nick backed away, dreading Xander’s next words, “That’s how you ‘attacked’ Chip?”
“You saw it?” the leader asked, his throat suddenly dry.
“All of it.” Xander’s accent always got heavier when he was upset. He stared at the Red Ranger, completely at a loss for what to say.
Nick squared off toward the Menotaur Ranger. “Well, go ahead. I deserve it.” Xander only continued to stare at his friend. “Do it, take a swing at me. What I did was wrong on so many levels, I deserve it.”
The tall man objected, “But it wasn’t you, it was Necro…”
Nick cut him off. “I should have stopped her! It was my fault Chip got…hurt!” Nick’s eyes held only pain, and a need for violence. “So do it! Hit me!” Nick advanced on the Green Ranger, fists clenched. Xander just stood there, content to let his friend’s rage burn out while he provided companionship. Nick was so angry, he was channeling magic again without knowing it. His emotional state began to overflow into the nearest magic-user.
The New Zealander fought the rising anger and need for retribution inside, drawing on his connection to the mystic Tree for strength. Nick was in his face, just begging for a beating, and Xander’s fists clenched in response.
The Phoenix teen raged on, red aura clearly visible, “How can you let me go, knowing what I did? I’m worse than any enemy we’ve faced!” Nick turned his back, “Goddammit, Xander!” he whirled on the Green Ranger, fist cocked, “I need this…HIT ME!” and clocked Xander square in the jaw.
Xander was so shocked Nick actually struck him, he lost his grip on the anger inside and punched his friend right back. Because of his months of wielding the power of the Tree, he hit like one, too. Nick went down, grunting in pain. Xander stood over him, Nick’s emotions battling with his own. Nick got up and wiped the back of his hand across his mouth, cleaning off the blood. “Is that all you got?”
That was it. Nick wanted retribution? Than that’s what he was going to get. All the times Nick stole the limelight were about it be paid back. Xander hit the Red Ranger with enough force to down a horse, following him to the ground. Nick fought back only weakly, fully aware he deserved anything and everything Xander gave him. In the purifying pain, Nick sent out the images of what he had done to Chip and rolled over to crawl to his feet.
With a short incantation, Xander called roots from the ground to hold the Phoenix Ranger down. The wood cinched tightly over Nick’s wrists and ankles, pulling him face first to the earth. Images of what Nick had watched Necrolai do to Chip filled Xander’s head and ignited his desire for revenge. His magic was powerful in this state, and blood began to seep where the roots were holding Nick so tightly. The Red Ranger felt a surge of fear; he was completely helpless in this state.
This time, Xander’s short incantation called vines from the nearby trees. Hurrying to please their master, the plants tore the clothes from Nick, leaving him on the ground with only his red leather gauntlets, the shreds of fabric disappearing into the woods. Nick’s emotions brought out the worst in the Green Ranger, calling forth any anger, jealousy, envy or frustration he’d ever had with the new guy in town. He felt Nick’s mad desire to get revenge for Chip, to give him exactly what he couldn’t stop the Vampire Queen from doing. In a flash, Xander had unzipped his pants and freed his suddenly full cock.
Xander was proportional to his height, and the largest of all the guys. Nick’s hazel eyes barely had time to widen in shock before he clenched them shut against the coming assault. Xander spared only enough effort to wipe his hand through the dew on the grass and deposit it between Nick’s firm cheeks before he gave him a taste of what happened to Chip. Fueled by Nick’s self-loathing, Xander plunged into the Red Ranger, sinking in all the way. The pleasure of the act itself helped ease Nick’s influence over Xander for a moment.
The Green Ranger paused as Nick’s authority and his own body’s gratification fought for control of his mind. Nick was rigid under him, the vines still cinched tight, holding him in the shape of an X. He wanted Xander to stop, wanted to crawl under a rock and hide from the humiliation, but knew he deserved it. How could he apologize to Chip appropriately unless he understood what his friend had gone through? He quelled the weak part of his mind and told himself to suck it up. What kind of a leader was he anyway? This had to happen, he had earned it by being too weak to stop Necrolai.
With Nick’s renewed determination, the red aura enveloped Xander as well, lighting the way for his negative emotions to take over. Xander began to move in Nick, savoring the tightness around him. Nick didn’t make a sound, but his body was conveying to pain he felt. He was a monster for allowing this to happen to Chip. As the minutes passed, Xander’s pace picked up. Nick had begun to bleed not only from the wrists and ankles, but also from where’s Xander’s large cock moved. The blood was finally providing lubrication, and Nick was surprised to find a spark of pleasure every time Xander was in deepest.
Stroke after stroke, the taller teen was getting harder. Something made Nick speak the same words Necrolai had, casting a spell on the Green Ranger. Xander didn’t even break his rhythm as the icy shot went up his spine. He was going to make Nick pay for what he did to the most innocent of the Rangers. The Menotaur Ranger had never been with another man before, but the pleasure was building just the same. He knew climax was imminent and increased his pace.
Nick was captive to his own carnal desires. As much as his sense of honor told him this should be a bad experience, his body had taken a liking to it. He’d broken a sweat trying to fight it, the fine sheen covering his whole naked body. That spark of pleasure Xander brought with each stroke had become an explosion, overriding the Red Ranger’s senses each time. His own penis was hard under him, pleasantly held between his solid abs and the ground. The tight bonds at his wrists and ankles were even adding to it. It was then that Nick knew he was weak.
He wasn’t able to resist Necrolai’s invasion, and now he couldn’t even control the rising desire. He had said it back when Udonna recruited him, and he knew it was true now. He was not the leader they were looking for. Completely against his will, his balls tightened and a growl rose from Nick’s throat.
The growl turned into a moan as Xander hit that spot again, forcing him to cum. Nick tried to hide the fact that pleasure had overwhelmed him, but couldn’t help tensing up. Rapture roared through his body, ceasing all thought. His seed exploded under him in spurts, each one bringing another wave of pleasure. The Green Ranger moved in him again, forcing one more bit of bliss through his tanned body before it let him go. Nick went limp under the taller teenager.
When Xander heard Nick growl, it was exactly what he had been waiting for. The Phoenix Ranger had broken. The victory over Nick’s will sent him into orgasm, drawing out a cry of pleasure. He could barely hold himself over Nick’s prone form, quivering in ecstasy he’d never experienced before. He shot into Nick hard, his mind numb from the hot tightness around his pulsing cock.
The Tree Ranger stiffened as green magic welled up out of him, moving through the forest like a shock wave. Every leaf on every tree in the forest turned brown and dropped from the branch. Then, a new, larger and greener leaf sprouted in it’s place, blocking out the sunlight with the thicker canopy. The grasses around the two boys grew six inches in two seconds.
The New Zealander dropped behind Nick, spent by the physical, mental, emotional and magical ordeal. The roots holding the Red Ranger down retreated into the ground, allowing him to slowly push himself into a sitting position. Nick noted the blood around his wrists and ankles, and his complete lack of clothing. He flushed in humiliation over what had just happened and mustered just enough courage to look up at his friend. Xander was lying in the tall grass, not moving.
Nick leaned over his friend quickly, placing a hand on his chest to feel for a heart beat. Xander was breathing normally, but was unconscious from the immense amount of magic Nick’s spell had pulled from him at the moment of climax. A green aura began to form around the fallen Ranger, and Nick knew he’d better got out of there before Xander woke. As he was running away, trying to hide his nudity in the underbrush, he watched the Green Ranger come around.
Xander stood and swayed on his feet slightly, but then brought his hands together as a focal point. He bowed his head in concentration and the green aura reached out to an acorn on the ground. Nick stopped and crouched among a patch of bushes, taken aback by the scene before him. It looked as if Xander was using his new power only because he would burst if he didn’t.
Like Chip, barely tapping into what was available, he reached down and touched the nut on the ground. Immediately, it took root and a huge oak tree rose up before the Green Ranger. Xander’s green aura began to dance around the new tree, shaping the branches and trunk. In a matter of seconds, a gnarly, healthy tree ready to shelter birds and squirrels in it’s many nooks was standing in the heart of the patch of tall grass. Before Xander could turn, Nick darted away.
Once he got home, he was grateful his sister was still at work. He went straight to the shower and cranked up the heat. Nick rolled the bar of soap in his hand before the weight of what had happened came crashing down. He sank to his knees in the porcelain tub, looking directly into the water and allowing it to run over his face. Today he had learned not only how terrible an experience he had burdened poor Chip with, but how bad a leader he truly was. Salty tears mixed with the hot, clear water.
He could now apologize to Chip correctly and possibly even seek his forgiveness. Maybe that would make him a little bit more like the leader the Mystic Force Power Rangers deserved. He made a vow right there in that shower. Never again would he let anything happen to his team. They were his friends and they deserved someone better than he, but he would simply have to try harder. Nick pulled himself together and stood, taking a deep breath. He felt a little better, but had a long way to go before he was worthy of standing equal with the other Power Rangers. He started with his wrists, carefully cleaning off the blood.
