Watching and waiting.
Here's more sry for the wait.
The Doctor had managed to get the Captains bleeding under control. When he had tried to use a dermal regenerator the anticoagulant in the wounds wouldn't allow the instrument to do it's work. Instead he had to result to using sutures from old Earth practices of barbaric medicine. For all that Chakotay never once left her side. He would move when the Doctor needed to work on her side but as soon as he was done Chakotay was back at her side holding her hand and telling her that he was here for her. The Doctor had put her in a drug induced coma so he could manage the pain she was in. She had been unconscious for nearly a week and Chakotay had been there every single hour of that week.
Chakotay barely heard the sickbays doors open and didn't even register that the Doctor was talking to B'Elanna.
"Maybe you can get him to leave." The Doctor hissed out.
"I'll try but if he doesn't want to move then he's not going to move." B'Elanna replied and moved over towards Chakotay.
She stood there and watched him holding the Captains hand gently in his. There were rumors filtering through the ship that Chakotay and Janeway were lovers, but when Chakotay had been spotted having dinner with Seven all the talk went right out the airlock. Most of the former Maquis were angry over the fact he would choose the Borg drone over the lovely Captain. If you had been in a room with them for more than a minute than you would know how much they were in love with each other. Yet he started to date Seven.
"Chakotay?" B'Elanna tried and was pleased when he turned his head slightly to look at her.
"Yeah B'Elanna?"
"What are you doing?"
"Staying with her. I said I would never leave her side and I won't." He replied and rested his cheek against the Captains hand.
"You need a shower and a hot meal. The doctor told me you have been here for a week and he tried to get you to leave but you threatened to delete him. That sounds like something I would do." B'Elanna tried to get him to smile but to no avail.
"I don't want to..."
"How about this. You go take a shower, get a hot meal, and try to rest while I stay here with the Captain." B'Elanna offered and Chakotay turned to look at her.
"You would do that?"
"Sure, besides you really need a shower." B'Elanna said and watched as Chakotay moved gingerly from the chair and slowly took his hand from Kathryns.
B'Elanna sat down and took her hand looking at her pale face. She was so still that B'Elanna had to look very carefully to make sure she was still breathing.
"I'm not good at this so I'm just going to talk. I was glad when you caught us out here. It gave me the family I had no idea I was missing and now because of you I have a wonderful husband who may drive me crazy at times but I love him more than I have loved anyone. So you can't leave us no matter what. We need you. You are the heart of our family. You have to know that we look to you. Don't leave us... please." B'Elanna said and jumped when she felt the Captains hand clench hers.
"Doctor!" She shouted but kept her hand in the Captains.
"What?" He walked over and checked the Captain. The Doctor made a weird face that had B'Elanna staring at him with wide eyes.
"She moved." B'Elanna told him
"This shouldn't be happening." He said and ran a diagnostic.
"What's happening?" B'Elanna asked and went over to look over his shoulder.
"She's waking up from the strong dosage I gave her." The Doctor replied.
B'Elanna looked puzzled and when a sound came from the Bio bed. She went back to her Captain side where Janeway's eyes fluttered open.
"Chakotay." She whispered.
"He's not here. Chakotay will be back in a while. Until then I'm here Captain."
CHAKOTAYS'QUARTERS.
Chakotay stood looking out at the stars in his living room while he held onto a clean uniform jacket. He had been in the same uniform for a week that had Kathryn's blood all over it. He hardly noticed because he was too busy beating himself up over the stupid fight they had had about something he couldn't even remember what.
Chakotay was still thinking when he heard the chime sound at his door. "come." he announced and slid on his uniform jacket. He knew it was Seven by the way she walked briskly into his quarters. She walked right over to him and slipped her arms around his waist and rested her cheek against his shoulder. Chakotay immediately stiffened. There were so many warning bells going off in his head already that he had begun to go deaf with all the noise.
"Seven now is not a good time." He said and moved away from her.
"I assumed the Captain was conscious again." Seven said in her usual tone.
"well she's not and I have to get back to her."
"Then why are you with me?" Seven asked but Chakotay had no answer for her. He simply walked out and left Seven standing there.
Of all the women he's had Chakotay could say with certainty that Janeway was the only one he has ever loved with his whole heart. He showed her parts of himself that he had never showed any of the other women he had knew. Seven wouldn't understand the small details that Kathryn had found fascinating. He had tried to explain his beliefs to her but she had looked at it with a cold analytical eye in her Borg way. Kathryn on the other hand was deeply fascinated an she would ask questions and make little jokes which he would laugh at and then they would get back to his explanation.
Why was he with Seven? That question repeated over in his head everytime he tried to have a conversation with her. He told Kathryn that he would always be by her side. What was he doing with Seven? He still couldn't figure it out. When Chakotay did he was going to have to make a choice and some how he knew that choice would be Kathryn.
