When Blaine entered school on Monday, it seemed word had gotten out that Kurt had been kidnapped. There were missing posters on every bulletin board in the school. If that wasn’t bad enough, Blaine passed several of the members of New Directions in the hallway looking positively solemn. Rachel was actually in tears. Blaine didn’t blame them. Who didn’t love Kurt? Finn didn’t even seem to be in classes at all that day. Blaine wasn’t surprised. Kurt was his stepbrother after all.
It was strange being at McKinley without Kurt there. The senior had a perfect track record. It didn’t seem right for him not to be around. Blaine found it hard to concentrate knowing that Kurt was missing. He still didn’t have a clue why anyone would want to kidnap Kurt of all people. As far as Blaine knew, Kurt didn’t have any real enemies anymore. The only think he could think of would be if someone was jealous of Kurt. But who would be and why? One name came to mind as Blaine made his way to the cafeteria during lunch period. Sebastian. He seemed like the perfect choice for someone who would be jealous of Kurt. Blaine was well aware that the new Warbler was into him and he was also well aware that Sebastian was willing to do stuff with him even though he had a boyfriend. Blaine wasn’t a cheater. He would never do that to Kurt. Sebastian was an awesome singer and good at getting hold of things like fake ID cards for people but Blaine was not in the least interested. He could already gather that Sebastian was a troublemaker type and not in the same way as Puck might be. Speaking of Puck, Blaine was pulled out of his thoughts as the Mohawk kid slapped his tray down on the table. “Hey,” Puck said in a very quiet voice, quite unlike him. “So, are you hurt?” he asked. Blaine looked up from the sandwich he’d been intending to eat but hadn’t even touched. He cocked an eyebrow. Why did Puck suddenly care if he was hurt? He watched the kid with the Mohawk pick at what surprisingly little food he hand on his plate. “My head is sore,” Blaine said, voice equally quiet. “Whomever took Kurt knocked me out with a fireplace poker,” he told him, staring down at his untouched sandwich. The clink of a fork had him looking up at Puck, who looked positively pissed. Had he really become that good a friend to Blaine that he cared that he had been hurt trying to save Kurt? Blaine wasn’t going to lie. He was surprised. “You okay Puckerman?” he asked, looking at the football player curiously. “Damn. If they did that to you, there’s no telling what they could be doing to poor Kurt,” Puck replied, seemingly staring off into space. In the next instant, he’d stood up and thrown his untouched lunch in the trash. Shouldering his backpack he gave Blaine a nodded and headed out of the room before the other could ask where he was going or what he was doing. Puck just seemed like a giant ball of confusion to Blaine and he was still trying to figure the football player out. He was still staring after Puck when another slap that was the sound of a lunch tray met his ears and he turned to see that Mercedes had dropped down on the table. Her plate was piled with tots but she didn’t look very much like she was actually going to eat them. Blaine looked at her for a moment and she looked at him. Finally, he shoved his tray away and folded his arms, dropping his face into them. Mercedes put a hand on his shoulder and the two of them just sat there in silence like that. Blaine was a mess and he was quite sure that the only person who could possibly be worse than him was Finn, not including Kurt’s parents. The fact was, someone had taken the love of his life from him and he was scared shitless that he wasn’t going to see him again. And that was how it seemed to go the rest of the day. Blaine had classes with other members of New Directions but none of them paid much attention in class. Most of them were worried about Kurt. Well, all of them were and nobody wanted to say anything either. For the first time ever, Blaine was not looking forward to Glee Club that afternoon. It wouldn’t be the same. No one would be able to concentrate. The few times he saw Rachel were enough to tell him that she hadn’t stopped crying at all, all day. Her Jewish nose was blistering red as though she had a cold but he knew it was from the sniffling that comes with crying. She must have been thinking of all the hard times she’d given Kurt, including their recent spat because she’d decided to run against him for president of the senior class. Passing in classes, Blaine’s cell phone rang. He looked at it. It was Finn. He swallowed, not sure if he wanted to answer it or not but he knew that he should. He ducked into the bathroom and locked himself in one of the stalls. “Finn,” he said in a really broken voice, placing the phone to his ear. The voice on the other end of the line was so choked up Blaine couldn’t even recognize it. It wasn’t even speaking words to begin with. “Anything?” he asked. “They…” Finn managed to get out before he practically broke down into the phone. Blaine did not press him for information. But a fear gripped him tightly in his chest. He was afraid. Afraid that whatever Finn was going to say, it would be bad news. What if he was calling to tell him they’d found Kurt’s body? A lump formed in his throat. Blaine did not think that he would be able to take that news if it was discovered that Kurt was dead. He was almost certainly that whoever had taken him would probably rape him at the very least and he shivered. The sobbing went on for some time and Blaine heard the bell ring. He didn’t bother to rush off to class. It was the last class of the day and frankly, he didn’t want to sit in it at all. He slid down against the wall in the stall and took a deep breath. “They what Finn? Please, tell me. Say it isn’t bad,” he said, trying to coax his boyfriend’s stepbrother into telling him whatever the news was. “They didn’t find his body did they?” he asked in a quiet moment of horror. “No…” Finn choked out on the other end of the line. Blaine felt a wave of relief wash over him. So at least there was still hope that Kurt was alive. “But they found a blood trail. They think that Kurt might have tried fighting his captors and got hurt in the process.” Oh good God. Now Kurt may be hurt but there was a good thing about the blood trail. He swallowed. “Well, wouldn’t that trail lead them to Kurt?” he asked heavily. Though he couldn’t see him, he was pretty sure Finn was shaking his head. No way would it be that easy. “I can’t hear you shake your head Finn.” He heard a gulp. “That’s the weird part. You’d think that it would. But they said that the trail of blood just stopped abruptly. Like someone had deliberately meant for it to lead them that way.” Shit. Whoever it was, was playing games with them. Messing with their heads. Finn was seemingly calming down just a bit but he still sounded overly hysterical to Blaine and it was a wonder that he was able to comprehend what the other was saying. He swallowed and closed his eyes, wondering what he should say. He didn’t know if there was anything to say. “Thank you Finn,” he finally said. He heard Finn sob a reply and than something that sounded like “bye” and he hung up the phone. Blaine knew that he probably should go to class but he didn’t. Instead, he just sat there on the floor of the stall, head resting against the stall door and eyes shut, tears burning their perimeter. He wanted to cry but he knew Kurt wouldn’t want him to. Now though, despite the fact that Kurt could still be alive, he could also be hurt. And he was still naked. Wherever Kurt was, he could be freezing his little ass off. This was not good weather for Kurt to be naked in. Much less if they had him tied up outside or something. Blaine was just about to open his eyes and figure out how much time had passed when his phone rang again. He blinked his eyes open and stared down at it. The caller was unknown. Blaine scrambled to his feet, a wave of anger suddenly flooding through his body. He went for the talk button and slammed the stall door open at the same time. “Who the fuck are you?” he said darkly into the phone when he’d pressed it to his ear, storming out of the bathroom and heading for the choir room. He didn’t know how he’d known but something in his gut had told him that this was Kurt’s kidnapper. But why call Blaine? Wouldn’t the kidnapper rather make contact with Kurt’s family? There had to be a reason for this. Something that was starting to tell Blaine that it was more and more likely that Sebastian was behind the whole thing. But the voice he heard on the other end of the line surprised him so much that he stopped short. “B-Blaine?” It was Kurt. His sweet Kurt was on the other end of the line. He was alive. He was alive and he was…well, maybe not safe but he was alive. Blaine swallowed. “Blaine…help me…I…” was all that came through the phone line before Blaine heard a sound that sounded much like someone snatching the phone out of Kurt’s hands. He had the sudden inkling that Kurt had snuck in this phone call. “Who allowed you a phone?” Blaine heard a voice say. His face hardened. There was a sudden smacking sound and Blaine was quite sure that whoever it was had just hit Kurt. That did it. A fuse that had been sparking since the break in burst into full flame and Blaine flew down the hall toward the choir room, not sure why he was running there instead of out of the school. He slammed his voice back into the phone at rage levels. “Whoever the fuck you are you keep your grimy mitts off him! I swear to God I will beat the shit out of you!” Had anyone who knew Blaine been in the vicinity, they probably would have done the jaw drop of shock. This wasn’t Blaine. This was not the confident boy that was known to stand up to people for Kurt’s sake. He looked as though he were going to kill someone. Blaine came to a screeching halt outside the choir room, hearing voices from within. He knew that it was after school now. He hadn’t even really heard the bell ring signaling the end of classes. No one met his voice. Instead, in the next instant, he heard the dial tone. Someone had hung up on him. He had a feeling that he wasn’t supposed to know yet that Kurt was alive. But then he had to wonder, why had Kurt called him first of all people? Was it because they had been together the night Kurt had been kidnapped? Maybe it was because in his state of panic, Blaine was the only person that popped into his head quickly enough to call. He knew there had to be a reason because he knew that Kurt’s family was very important to the senior. Gulping for air, Blaine stepped into the choir room and everyone, including Mr. Schue turned and looked at him. He was breathing heavily and his eyes were dark. “Kurt’s alive.” And that was all he said. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
