Chapter 1
Monica personally had no last name and she didn't need one, unless it was required for her assignment. But normally it wasn't needed; she was Monica an angel of the Lord whose purpose was to help those who were lost. Help them find their way, help them before they go so far down a path that even she wouldn't be able to alter their fate. And if that happened that soul, that once innocent and could have been again person was damned. Monica was still young by many standards, she had a very good idea about Hell but did not witness it herself and personally she didn't want to dwell even a hairs closer to learning of it personally having to deal with the odd demon was bad enough. And the look Andrew got at times was enough to tell her it was bad. Very bad. Andrew was an Angel of Death. He was the one who usually came to carry you to the afterlife, him and several other Angel's with that purpose. Every angel had their own purpose; she understood that as she understood the love she had for her Lord's creation and her Lord himself. And young she may be, even she was knew things most wouldn't even dream of. But her current situation was enough to send her in a fit of confusion and bewilderment. She closed her eyes as she sat in the passenger seat of Tess's car and the next she found herself in a quiet park dressed the same as she was when she fell asleep. But one thing that cut through her confusion and bewilderment was how cut off she felt. How alone. It was enough to send cold chills down into the deepest part of her. She didn't feel this very much in her life, but when she did she would remember those times for the rest of her existence. Feelings she didn't like feeling. But here she was, alone and isolated in a place she knew was one of the many cities on the Earth but was foreign to her at the same time. The American flag told her what country she was in, and the license plates filled her in on the fact that it was Chicago. But she knew that this wasn't her Chicago. Running a hand through her hair she looked around aimlessly. She was taught so many things, even went through her graduating test you could say with a little more confidence than she finds herself dealing with now. But at least then even if she was on her own dealing with the situation she knew that throughout the entire situation she wasn't as alone as she at times felt. It felt different here… So foreign. She didn't even want to consider herself lost and that was never a good place for an Angel to be. It was dangerous and if she made the wrong choices and made the horrible mistakes that couldn't be fixed so easily during lost times and even times that you weren't lost, her halo could be shattered and she could truly be lost and away from all that she loves and knows. It was a risk she didn't and won't make. Gathering herself she walked to the sidewalks and started to look for familiar faces, just in case. As she did so she aimlessly walked up one sidewalk and down another. Her feet were getting tired. Very tired. And oddly enough she was getting hungry and thirsty, being an Angel she didn't really require regular sustenance as humans do, but she like some others liked to indulge every now and again. So she spotted what appeared to be a bar and on the other side of the street a restaurant. She never liked bars so she headed towards the restaurant. In front of the bar there were more trucks and gleaming up to date cars. Only one car stood out to her though, an older model. Black. She knew enough to know that it was a Chevy Impala. One of her assignments loved cars; she just didn't know the date. Idly she noted that Elliot, the young boy she was sent to look after would have loved to see the car. There was no parking left in front of the restaurant, she was glad that she didn't drive because it would have been nearly a headache finding a parking. Tess would have complained, but Monica always knew she would find a spot and would no doubt lecture anyone around her car if they looked disrespectful. Tess was always like that, a teacher of sorts. Strict and kind and fair. A force to recon with when she got going. Entering the restaurant she passed two people bickering with each other, brothers no doubt. One was taller than the other. And she nearly flushed when the smaller one insulted the taller one who promptly replied with a simple 'jerk'. She never warmed up to cussing; never saw a reason for it when every language on earth had more than enough words to compensate for the need. The two brothers were getting up to go, it was then she realized they had a third person with them that she didn't notice before. A tan overcoat and a near detached but strict posture. Faintly her mind pointed him out to be a soldier of sorts. But there was something about him that both gave a sense of righteousness and wariness. Instinct served its purpose in letting her know that he was a man who was not to be trifled with. And now that she thought about it, neither were the obvious brothers who despite the smiles and bickering there was darkness in them. A chilling darkness. She turned her attention from them the second cool blue eyes peered in her direction, unblinking and in scrutiny. "Cas you comin' or what?" The smaller one beckoned as he pulled out a few bills and put them on the table before heading towards the exit. The taller one already packing up a laptop and following after the shorter one with a deep frown on his face, obviously not getting his way. The one called 'Cas' followed but not until one last look in her direction. Monica watched them cross the road and approach the Impala. Monica turned her attention to the impatient but obviously relieved waitress. "Hello, may I have a slice of mocha and a sandwich please." Monica asked politely with her usual soft tone. The waitress nodded and jotted down on a notepad before setting to fixing up what Monica asked for. She made sure she had some money even before the thought of eating entered her mind. She didn't want to cause any trouble, it wasn't in her nature. As soon as what she asked for came she thanked the waitress and started to eat. Perhaps on a full stomach she could figure out what happened and where she was. She really did want to go home, she wanted to see Tess again and Andrew and Gloria. She was already homesick, it was an unpleasant feeling to say the least. She wondered if they were trying to find her or if that was the whole point. Was this another test? If so than what was her purpose? Who was she supposed to help? Authoress Note: Well? Above all else, who do you think this little lost Angel should meet first? She already caught Cas's attention. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
