Summary : A reflection made by Betty at their Skype conversation with Sara brings Gil to reconsider his position regarding the distance that separates him from his wife ...
A few days later, Sara was in her office of the laboratory.
She conversed quietly with Gil on Skype, they hadn't been in contact between them since the gala evening school for deaf and hearing impaired.
Each of them had had a busy week and were discussing right now on the subject when three knocks at the door interrupted them.
It was Betty, come to see Sara to make amends for the way she had welcomed her into her family.
For the occasion, she offered an African violet that Sara had agreed heartily, affected by this voluntary gesture of reconciliation.
Gil was very happy to see them get closer, he didn't expect more.
-I still think you two need get together more, sex is always important in a marriage ... said Betty to end their family conversation.
Since then, Gil was long troubled by this phrase which wasn't trivial to him.
It then led him to think more seriously about his future with Sara as a married couple.
How could he keep his distance with her as long as they were in love with madness and that the lack was becoming increasingly difficult to bear?
He knew how much his mother was right about the subject and began to wonder how he would solve his problem.
Maybe eventually, they should move in together somewhere more permanent?
One thing was certain, Gil couldn't consider for one second his life without his beloved wife.
In building their lives as they did currently, a kind of unconventional marriage, have they no took the risk being permanently separated by fate?
Gil was torn between their present life and this new decision to make : what should he do?
Stay like this or settle permanently with Sara somewhere where they would remain together until the end of their days?
Gil reflects well during the week that followed this first conversation Skype family.
Despite the busy schedule caused by his trip to Peru, he couldn't prevent himself of think about this phrase said by his mother and reflect.
Gil took his decision at the end of the following week, after a few phone calls and emails exchanged regularly with Sara and his mother.
He was missing Sara so much, it could hardly be otherwise.
The end of his trip was scheduled for the following weekend.
Gil spent several phone calls between Paris and Las Vegas to settle certain customary formalities regarding his work and housing.
He said nothing to anyone, not even his mother so that the surprise be complete.
His journey ended, Gil went first to Paris to get a few things he would need and some gifts and memories that he had accumulated from Peru.
He then traveled to Las Vegas to find Sara.
In the taxi that brought him back to home from the airport, a song by Mariah Carey played on local radio.
It was called "Without You" and when Gil listened more carefully, he reacted.
It was like some sort of message, reminding him of the errors he had made with Sara in the past and the last night they spent together before she returned to work recently.
No I can't forget this evening
Or your face as you were leaving
But I guess that's just the way
The story goes
You always smile but in your eyes
Your sorrow shows
Yes it shows
No I can't forget tomorrow
When I think of all my sorrow
When I had you there
But then I let you go
And now it's only fair
That I should let you know
What you should know
I can't live
If living is without you
I can't live
I can't give anymore
I can't live
If living is without you
I can't give
I can't give anymore
Well I can't forget this evening
Or your face as you were leaving
But I guess that's just the way
The story goes
You always smile but in your eyes
Your sorrow shows
Yes it shows
I can't live
If living is without you
I can't live
I can't give anymore
I can't live
If living is without you
I can't give
I can't give anymore...
("Without You" by Mariah Carey.)
When the song ended, tears were rolling down the cheeks of Gil.
He wondered how he could let the distance to invade his couple to this point.
It was comforting him now in his decision.
The taxi deposited him in front of the new house inhabited by Sara since her return to Las Vegas.
Obviously, from what he saw through the window, she seemed not to be home yet.
Gil went until a flower pot that stood at the foot of the gate and lifted it.
He was right, there was a key below, he took it and opened the door of the house.
Once he had closed the door behind him, Gil put his luggage in the lobby and took the time to admire his wife's tastes in decoration.
They had this in common, this taste for the sciences and especially for butterflies.
There was absolutely all over the walls, not to mention the great library located in the lounge.
He never missed one of their favorite authors.
Gil returned to take his luggage and went into the bedroom.
No sooner had he crossed the threshold he stopped of a sudden : Sara was lying in bed, she slept soundly.
He thought she wasn't at home and now he stood there on the threshold of their bedroom looking at her sleeping, his luggage still in hand.
Without a sound, he stepped back and then went back to the lounge, where he deposited his bags.
He took off his shoes in the lobby and then returned to the bedroom quickly.
He shut behind him and undressed completely in silence so as not to wake her and cause a big shock.
Then he slipped quietly under the sheets and managed to embrace her in his arms.
The softness of her skin and the warmth of her body caused him to react of an uncontrolled way.
There were weeks ago that they hadn't had physical contact and coming from Gil, it was quite natural.
Sara seemed to be dreaming because when Gil embraced her in his arms, she moved slightly and slipped her fingers in his as if she was knowing his presence in their bed.
She groaned slightly as she felt his erection pressed against her thigh.
-Mmmmm...Gil ...
Gil smiled, visibly happy.
Exhausted by his journey and his emotions, he closed his eyes and fell asleep ...
TBC ...
