Everything went down in the middle of Stull Cemetary. Sam had managed to fight Lucifer every step of the way, denying him over and over again. This time he made it seem like he would finally say yes. He stared Lucifer down, watching Michael out of the corner of his eye. Lucifer moved closer, smiling. "Just say yes, Sam and we can end this." It was then that Sam let the Archangel Sword slide down from his jacket sleeve. "This is for Gabriel." He growled before plunging the blade into Lucifer's chest. The look on the fallen archangel's face was priceless for him, disbelief and fear evident there. "NOW DEAN!" He yelled as his brother threw the horseman's rings on the ground, chanting the incantation as Sam turned, running as fast as he could. Michael had come forward, brandishing his blade with every intention of killing Sam for what he had done, but then the ground opened beneath him and Lucifer and they plunged headlong, heading straight for the cage. Sam fell to the ground, panting before turning so he could watch as the ground closed up, efficiently sealing the cage shut. "We did it." He spoke softly, bringing his hand up to cover Gabriel's seal while closing his eyes. "We did it, love. He's gone forever." He puffed out, shaking his head slightly. It was over now. He pushed himself up, looking at Castiel, Dean, and Bobby before smiling sadly. "Lets head back to Bobby's." He brushed his fingers through his hair, gripping Gabriel's sword tightly as they all got in the car and left. Once they were home, Sam walked out back, heading straight for the tree where Gabriel was buried. He knelt down, still clutching the sword. "I know you aren't here. I don't know where you are or..if you even are anymore. No one can tell me what happens when one of these is used on an angel, but I'm hoping it doesn't completely destroy you. Anyways, this is yours. I can't...I just can't keep it. It hurts to much to have it with me." He dug a hole in the dirt with his hands, making it deep before he laid the blade inside and covered it back over. Grass was already starting to grow out of the grave and he smiled. He still had moments where he would wake up crying in the night, clinging to the pillow that Gabriel had slept on. The angel's smell was gone now, replaced with Sam's. Sam knew he had to move on, but he didn't think he could. The apocalypse was over and he didn't know where to go from there. He whole purpose for the last month had been to kill Lucifer and now that was done. "Where do I go now, Gabe? What do I do? I'm...I'm so lost." He whispered, dropping his face into his hands as he started to cry. A few hours later Sam found his way back into the house. Dean and Cas were on the couch talking in hushed tones, sitting close together with their heads leaned towards each other. Sam smiled, watching them for a moment before heading into the study. Bobby was on Sam's laptop, looking through some things. He was probably also checking his email to see if any other hunters or new cases had come up. He looked up when Sam walked in, watching the young man. "How you hanging in there?" Sam shrugged a shoulder, grabbing a random book and flopping down onto the bed. "I'll be fine, Bobby. Just tired. This has been one hell of a year." He laughed weakly before opening the book to start reading. Eventually he figured out the book was about as exciting as watching dust collect so he put it down and laid back, stretching out as best as he could while folding his hands behind his head. He listened to the steady rhythm of Bobby breathing and the occasional creak or rustle inside the house before he started daydreaming. ***** "Come on Sammy boy! You know you want this!" Gabriel motioned to his body, smiling brightly at the man who was glaring daggers at him. "What I want, Gabriel, is for you to send me back." He looked around the room he was in, wishing there were a door or something so he could get away from the archangel. "Why would I want anything to do with you after everything you've put me and Dean through?" Gabriel rolled his eyes, stepping closer. "I told you I was sorry about that! Come on, kiddo, give me another chance. I promise, no more trying to kill your brother. I'll behave." Sam snorted and shook his head. "I don't think so. And why are you trying to...date me when you hate me?" Arms crossed over the angel's chest and he tilted his head, giving Sam the best puppy dog impression he could. "I never hated you Sam. I was trying to teach you something, but you wouldn't listen! Thats all over though. I told you, I'm picking a side and it ain't with either of my brothers. I'm picking you two as the winning team." He smiled brilliantly. "Plus have you looked at yourself? You're gorgeous kid! Come on...one date. Go on one date with me and then you never have to see me again if you don't like it." "I'm not gonna go out with you damnit!" He growled. This had been going on for some time. Gabriel would show up when Sam was alone, or whisk Sam off somewhere private and spend god only knew how long trying to convince him to go on a date with him. Honestly, it was starting to work. Sam wouldn't admit it, but he was actually starting to look forward to the times that Gabriel showed up. The angel was funny, smart, and not bad to look at. Plus he didn't just use word to try and convince Sam. He'd taken to helping Sam and his brother, leaving books where Sam could find them, dropping hints when needed. The last few times Sam had found stuff obviously left by Gabriel had been a real shock though. One item had been an intricate silver band bracelet with symbols Sam couldn't recognize on it. In the end Castiel had told him they were very strong Enochian protection symbols. "Gabriel. Just...shut up ok?" He sighed, sitting down at the table in the middle of the room. "You swear that if I go out with you once that you'll back off if I say so?" He watched the angel, almost smiling when he looked surprised. "I said I would, Sammy." Sam thought about it for a moment. "I just don't know. I really don't know if I should trust you..." Gabriel sighed, throwing his arms up. Sam watched him, brushing his fingers through his hair before he finally nodded. "Alright. Ok, one date. One." Gabriel suddenly whooped, clapping his hands before he suddenly appeared in Sam's lap. Sam yelped, almost dumping the angel on the floor. "You won't regret this, Sammy boy." He said before kissing Sam and disappearing. Suddenly Sam found himself back in his hotel room, sitting on the bed. He looked shocked and he slowly reached his fingers up, brushing them over his lips. ***** He jolted when he felt his shoulder shoved hard, sitting up and nearly slamming his head into Dean's. "Dean! What gives man?" His brother moved away, sitting down in a chair in front of Bobby's desk. "Bobby found a case. Its in Texas and it sounds like werewolves. Pack your duffel bag. Looks like we're heading out." It literally took him ten minutes to get his stuff loaded into the Impala. He pulled the trunk open, going through everything to make sure they were stocked up on the various bullets they needed, rock salt, and holy water. When he was satisfied he nodded, turning his head to look out at the tree behind Bobby's house. He sighed after a moment before going to get the others. "Guys I'm ready whenever you are. Lets get the hell on the road. This is gonna be a long drive." He took a moment to run back up to his bedroom, rummaging through one of the drawers in his dresser before pulling out a picture he'd taken of Gabriel one day when the angel wasn't paying any attention to him. He smiled at it before shoving it into his back pocket, then they were gone. He groaned as he followed behind Castiel, who was practically dragging Dean into the hotel room. Dean had refused to let Castiel zap them back to the hotel so Sam had been forced to drive the car back to the hotel. He spent most of the ride doing a mental assessment of his own injuries. He was almost positive that he had a couple broken ribs and the damn werewolf had managed to claw the hell out of his side, but he knew none of it was fatal. He glanced in the rear view mirror, smiling at the way Cas was holding Dean protectively, like the werewolf was going to come back and try to take a chunk out of his brother again. They'd killed the beast though so there was nothing to worry about. He understood why Cas refused to heal them. He was mad that they had just taken off without him, half-cocked like always. Once Castiel had shown up and provided a good distraction for the beast he'd managed to get in the killing blow. Then they'd spent the next 15 minutes listening to the angel yell at them about how stupid they both were. Sam had pointed out that they were both still alive and had handled much worse which had only earned him an icy glare and a chuckle from Dean. His bed looked too inviting not to lay down, turning onto his stomach after a few moments so he could bury his head in his pillow. They'd managed to get a small suite for half the cost since it was off season for the small town and he could hear Dean and Castiel talking in the other room. He sighed, lifting his head when he heard his name and then Gabriel's. He shook his head, he couldn't take this. Not right now. So he pushed himself back up, walking out and past them to the front door. "I'm gonna walk up the street and grab something to eat. I remember seeing a place a few blocks down. I got my phone if you guys need me." He tapped his pocket before leaving the room. Instead of going to the diner he turned up a different street, ending up in the town square. It was a Saturday and apparently everyone had come out for some type of farmers market. It looked pretty interesting so he walked into the crowd, humming softly to himself. He ended up buying a few apples and a knife that looked really cool, hand crafted by the man running the booth. He swung his bags in one hand as he continued on, passing a store front and looking in the window. Which was when he came to a crashing halt, feeling like his breath had completely left his body. The reflection in the window was what had stopped him. His eyes widened as he mumbled. "Gabriel..." The angel was in the reflection, smiling at him sadly. Immediately he spun, looking at the crowd across the street. "Gabe!" He yelled, startling a woman and her two children as they passed. His eyes scanned the crowd, but Gabriel was nowhere to be seen. He looked back at the glass, frantic to understand what had just happened, but the reflection was gone. He shook his head suddenly, backing away down the sidewalk. Gabriel had looked so real, but had he imagined it? Grief washed over him as tears filled his eyes. He blinked to push them back before he started running back toward the hotel. He burst into the room, panting loudly. The pain in his broken ribs flared, heat racing up his side, but he didn't care. "Cas..." He moaned, looking at the angel and his brother who had been on the couch watching tv. "Gabriel...I...I saw him! I know I did!" The two stared at him before Castiel got up and made Sam sit in a chair. He could feel pain and grief flowing from the human and it saddened him. He touched Sam's arm, healing him before shaking his head. "Gabriel was killed, Sam. We were all there. You...grief is a powerful thing. It can make you imagine things..." Sam just shook his head, still panting from his run. "I saw him..." Castiel looked at Dean before motioning for Sam to go to the bed. "Why don't you lie down, Sam? You need to rest." It pissed Sam off, but he stood, stalking slowly into the bedroom. Cas followed, waiting until Sam had lied down before touching his forehead, sending him into sleep. ***** It had been just over 4 months since their first date. Sam smiled as he thought back to the day Gabriel had finally convince him, shaking his head. The angel had been in and out all day trying to deal with the normals of his life, but finally he heard Gabriel as he appeared in a flutter of wings. "One of these days you are gonna have to show me your wings." He smiled, lifting his head from where he had it on the couch. They were back in the lavish room that Gabriel had actual started using on a regular basis when he and Sam were together. It was an illusion, easy to enter for Dean and Castiel if they needed them. "You hot for my wings, Sammy boy?" He winked, walking over and sitting on top of his lover. Sam huffed, smirking and shrugging. "How about I'm just hot for all of you?" He pulled Gabriel into a kiss before stretching out a bit more. Gabriel chuckled, slipping a hand beneath Sam's t-shirt, scratching across his stomach before getting back up. Sam laid there for a moment longer before sitting up, looking at the angel. "Hey Gabe? Will you mark me?" The angel froze before turning. "Mark? What you mean hickeys? I thought I gave you plenty of those the other night!" Sam shook his head, eyes serious. "No...mark me like Cas marked Dean. I see the way they look at each other. That mark...Cas basically claimed Dean, right?" Oh this was not good, Gabriel thought, groaning softly. "Yeah Sammy. Dean was claimed by Cas but its more than that. You don't understand what you're asking for kid." And Sam didn't. "So help me understand. I want to be yours. I want you to claim me." And it just wasn't getting any better, was it? "Dean is Cas' mate, Sam. Even if he doesn't know it. That kind of mark isn't just...its not something we angels take lightly. If I marked you like that you would be mine for eternity. My mate. Essentially we'd be married. You don't want to tie yourself to an angel." Sam's eyes had widened during Gabriel's speech and he swallowed hard. "But...I do want that. I want you. You really think I could stand to be with anyone else after being with you?" He smiled softly, standing and pulling Gabriel into his arms. "You kinda ruined me for pretty much anyone else." He bent his head, kissing the angel softly before pulling back. "I understand if you don't want it though." Gabriel groaned again, cupping Sam's cheek. "Kid you don't know how wrong you are. You are all I want and I have wanted to claim you since the moment I laid eyes on you." He thought about it long and hard, standing there with Sam in that moment before he finally nodded. "If you truly want this, then so do I." He pulled the man into another kiss before pushing him gently until he was sitting on the couch. "Might hurt a little. Grace meets human soul...can be overwhelming as hell. Just letting you know." He rested his hands on Sam's chest, waiting for the knowledge to sink in. Sam smiled, shaking his head. "You think thats going to make me say no, Gabriel? You are the only one I want. The only one I will ever want. I know that now." He leaned in, kissing the angel softly. Gabriel sighed into the kiss, moving his hands up to cup Sam's face. "Alright. There needs to be an act of intimacy. Since I'm not pulling your soul out of hell that won't work. Umm...Sex is probably the best we've got." He smirked, licking his lips. "Of course I don't think we'll have any problem with that." He reached between them, hand cupping Sam through his jeans. Sam moaned, rolling his hips into that hand. "Fuck, Gabe..." He pulled the angel in for another kiss before shaking his head. "I think we need to be in bed for this." Gabriel's fingers snapped and suddenly they were on the bed and both of them were naked. "You know, you really need to learn to be patient, baby." He shook his head, stretching out as Gabriel straddled him. He sat back on Sam's thighs, reaching down and grasping his cock, stroking firmly. "Just relax, Sammy boy." He winked, snapping his fingers again, magically lubing Sam's cock. He kept stroking as he moved up, bending down to kiss Sam deeply as he positioned himself and sank down on his cock, groaning loudly. "Fuck, Sammy. I don't think I'll ever get enough of you." Sam grasped his hips, rocking up into Gabriel with a gasp. He smiled, blushing slightly before pulling Gabriel down into another kiss, biting his lower lip, sucking. Gabriel's hands pressed flat to his chest as he started moving, impaling himself on Sam's cock over and over. He threw his head back, whining softly as he closed his eyes. "Sam...fuck, Sam..." He panted as Sam moved a hand, catching one of Gabriel's in his own, lacing their fingers as they both moved. "Close your eyes...don't want to burn you out..." He ground out, setting up a heated rhythm, pressing Sam down into the bed as he pounded down on top of him. Gabriel closed his eyes, focusing as best as he could. He felt his Grace flair inside him, responding to him as he pushed at it, forcing it down and into Sam. As soon as his Grace touched on Sam's soul they both yelled. Sam's eyes slammed shut as his whole body tightened and arched off the bed. It felt like he was being burned alive even as he came with a strangled cry of Gabriel's name. The angel came at the same time, feeling his mark burning into Sam's chest, right over his heart. "Sammy!" He screamed as light flashed through the room, his Grace exploding out of him before he collapsed over the top of the larger man. They lay like that for what felt like hours, but was probably only a few minutes. Sam slowly blinked his eyes open, groaning softly as his arms came up, wrapping around Gabriel. "Gabe?" He whispered, looking down. Thats when he spotted the handprint on his chest. He reached up, touching it briefly before smiling. "Gabriel..." He nudged the angel who slowly moaned and opened an eye. "You ok, Sammy?" He lifted his head, seeing the mark and smiling as well. "Well, how does it feel to be mated to an archangel, kiddo?" Sam laughed, kissing him. "Feels good to me, actually." He stretched again, pulling Gabriel into his arms. "I think we need some rest though. That had to be the most...mind blowing experience ever." The angel chuckled, shifting so his body was next to Sam's. "Yeah you rest. When you wake up I'll make sure to have a full spread for you to eat. Need to keep your energy up for the rest of the night...." He smirked before letting Sam drift off to sleep. ***** Sam woke up with a start, pressing his hand over the mark on his chest. It was tingling and itching, which hadn't happened since Gabriel died. He pulled his shirt off as he got up, walking to the bathroom. He could hear Dean and Cas getting quiet, listening to him as he moved. He shoved the bathroom door open and stopped in front of the mirror, eyes stopping on the handprint over his heart. The skin there had always been raised, ever since the mark had been made, but something was different this time. It was swollen and red as if irritated. He reached up to touch it, pulling his fingers away when he felt the heat that radiated from the mark. "Gabriel?" He whispered, staring into the mirror like he expected the angel to appear. Of course, he didn't and that made Sam's shoulders slump slightly. He heard Dean behind him and looked up to see his brother staring at the mark now. "Since when does that thing look like that?" The older Winchester frowned, reaching out to touch it, but jerking his hand back when he felt the heat. "Cas! Something's going on with Gabriel's mark!" The angel pulled Dean out of the bathroom, leaning in so he could look. The look that came over Castiel's face was a mixture of curiousity and confusion. "Your mark is reacting to something, but I cannot determine what. Keep an eye on it, Sam. Let me know if anything changes." He nodded, looking up at the man before he left the bathroom. Gabriel looked at all of them, yelling at them, beating his wings, anything to get their attention, but it was no use. He still had no idea how he had managed to appear to Sam in the reflection, but he hoped he could do it again. "Damn it, Sammy. Can't you feel me here?"
