So I have been thinking for a long time on how to follow up my Ace/Mags couple and then last night (while trying to sleep of course :P) I thought of a way. So everything from this point forward is following the story Death Comes to Time where Ace becomes a Time Lady. Also I had thought of making this another tryst with the two but as I got to thinking about it thought the idea of Ace being more on the Asexual spectrum seemed to fit the idea more. Not to say she might not have sex again, but it just seemed to click
It has been a couple of years now since Ace found herself not only traveling in her own TARDIS, but now comfortable enough with it that she even managed to let it do its thing without worrying about where she would end up this time. She thought after travelling with the Doctor for so long that it wouldn't be a problem for her, then she realized that she now was the one who was supposed to be "in control" of the TARDIS. Ace stopped to wonder if maybe that was why when she would ask where they were going the Doctor sometimes got irritated. It had dawned on her that while there were times where you could try and pilot it, that it would take you where it thought you needed to be.
Which apparently at this moment was nowhere. The instruments all showed that the TARDIS seemed to be hovering. There was nothing to show anything might come up. It is for the first time since becoming a Time Lady that Ace has had time to rest. It also is the first time that she realizes how alone she feels. Before when she was with the Doctor she had traveled with someone. She thought the man who had been her jailer, and now apparently a doctor, might be interested in coming with her. UNIT though proved to be a irresistible lure to him, which probably was good. It doesn't fix her issue though.
Ace has thought of trying to recruit some people she has met on her journey. There have been a few people who she has mentioned it too, but the answer is always the same. It might be time to ask someone who she knew before she started her new life.
At first Ace was hesitant. The location of Vulpana wasn't something that was easy to come by. The main reason she found out is they are a Class 0 planet. In fact they could be comparable to the Earth's stone age. The planet itself is massive in size, in comparison it is about the size of Jupiter. The land masses were still undergoing tectonic drift, the continents still fairly close together. It was also very green, most of the land masses were covered in forest. Actually it looked a lot like a place you would want to retire too as it would seem to be very quiet. What got Ace was the water color, it wasn't blue, which was something that still catches her by surprise even after her travels. It looked, from space, to be more of a pink hue, though she doesn't know if it will look like that when she lands.
Before she does that though ace has to find who she is looking for. After talking to Kingpin Ace learned that Mags had asked him to take her back home after a year of working with the Psychic Circus. While he was hesitant, the Circus was running again, and seemed when she saw it to be doing well. Kingpin gave Ace Mags' old outfit from when she was in the circus, the same one Ace remembered seeing her in. Now she is trying to figure out how to use the outfit to help her scan the planet. There weren't many humanoid creatures on the planet despite its size. It looked like when the continental drift finished it would be similar to Earth in land to water ratio, which meant that a lot of the humanoid clusters were many miles apart. And she didn't even know if Mags was still alive down there.
After some frustration with the scanner Ace manages to get it to scan for unique discrepancies in the humanoids. Even with the TARDIS it takes a little while, though finally it finds one. It is a small dot on the map and the scanner registers only 2 humanoids down there. One Ace can safely guess is Mags, though who the other one is she isn't sure. Ace did see that the other was moving a mile or so away from Mags' stationary location.
Ace enteres the coordinates and takes a moment, what would happen if the other humanoid comes back? Will Mags recognize her? How would they interact with the Kingmaker telling her she was destined now never to have a lover? Not that the last one was something she ever really thought about. Ace has had only a couple of what could be generously considered lovers, the last being Mags herself. Mags was also the only one she ever connected with during her time with the Doctor. She wonders if his reaction was because he knew something of her future and how hard it would be having someone she...loved?
Ace hadn't considered love for Mags until now honestly. Again relationships weren't things Ace thought about to often, partially because since leaving Earth she was in a sort of survival mode, and in part because no one ever approached her. She had some friends, a couple she had messed around with mainly due to boredom and pity for them as they were in dry spells. She didn't mind them, but didn't feel fireworks after it either. Even with Mags, after it she felt nothing and thinks most of the reaction she had at the time was the sheer surprise from it. And yet here she is, orbiting the planet Mags lives in, one press of the button away from going to her again.
Closing her eyes she presses the button, letting out a breath she didn't know she had been holding. as the TARDIS starts its approach it passes through a field causing Ace to feel a bit dizzy. Looking at the readout it is form of shield to prevent anyone from coming to the planet. It also affects those who do land so that they will not bring anything into the ecosystem to disrupt it. Ace feels nervous now. Someone doesn't want anyone on Vulapana, and yet somehow she managed to get through. Ace looks as the instruments show arrival would be imminent.
In just a moment the TARDIS would land within a couple feet from Mags. Then the doors would open and things would go from there.

Mags is sitting in a cave. The sun is out and she can see the tops of the vast forest below her. Her mate is out there somewhere hunting. Since Mags came back she found she lost the desire to hunt. Part of it was from Captain Cook using her as a thug. Mags had killed a few people under his command. Mags cringes at the thought of what he was able to make her do. As she felt a familiar hatred of him Mags sighs remembering Captain Cook had saved her life. He happened upon her when trophy hunters had landed on Vulpana and started hunting her kind, one of them having their mind set on taking Mags down. If the Captain hadn't been with them she would be dead now, like the dozen that were killed and taken back. It was only with the Captain's help that they managed to get Vulpana protected as a primitive world unable to defend itself. No outside contact is allowed.
It was when she is thinking Mags hears a brief noise, almost celestial. Looking behind her Mags gets a puzzled look, a small boulder has appeared in the cave she has lived in since returning to her home. As she stands up she hears the sound of an electronic door opening, crouching down and starting at it as a woman with a short haircut steps out.
Mags growls at the intruder making Ace spin and face her. Mags is naked and crouched on the floor. Fortunately for Ace she hasn't shifted to her wolf form yet. "Mags hold on! It's me, Ace. You know, the one who traveled with the Doctor."
The change in Mags is instant. While the haircut threw Mags off, the voice is true. A very broken voice asks "Jacket?"
Ace thinks "Oh that? It was taken from me when I was thrown in prison by a man called Tannis. He is also the one who cut my hair."
Mags nods, the voice is the one she remembers. Slowly standing Mags moves to Ace. Mags sniffs her and then hugs her close. Ace isn't ready for physical contact, and especially not with a naked woman. It takes her a minute but Ace finally returns the hug. The two stand in Mags' cave for a couple minutes as they just enjoy the moment.
Mags backs away finally again asking in a broken voice. "Why are you here?"
Straight to the hard stuff. Ace sighs and sits down telling Mags of the apparent death of the Doctor, her becoming a Time Lady, the events of the couple years and the desire for a travelling companion. Mags sits down next to her, closing her eyes and hanging her head when hearing of the Doctor. If it hadn't been for him, who knows what Mags life would be like right now. It was her idea to go to the Psychic Circus. Without the Doctor, both her and the Captain would've been killed and the Gods still using it to lure people to their death. After hearing the rest of the story a look comes across Mags' face at the word companion. "And you came here?"
Ace nods. "It took some time. I talked to Kingpin, who told me he hopes you are doing well, and he gave me your old outfit to help the TARDIS to find you. I know you, more than any of the people who I have been with during my years with the Doctor after we saw you, or the years since I've been on my own."
Mags smiles playfully and leans closer, "Not been to bed with any of them?"
Ace blushes as she stammers "Of course not. I told you the Kingmaker told me relationships are to dangerous for me now."
Mags grins at the reaction, then turning serious she looks at Ace "And what of us? You are a delicious woman Ace. If I thought you would let me I would enjoy your flavor again right here, and something tells me even though it isn't safe that you wouldn't stop me."
Ace swallows "I...I don't know. I didn't think about that. I just feel close to you."
Mags holds up her hand. "You don't have this conversation often do you?" she smiles, her voice much smoother now. "I know you care for me. I don't doubt that, just like I know if there were a relationship again, the physical side would be me alone. I knew when I conquered that while you are a delicious lover, you also don't feel it do you?"
Ace feels the blush drain as she looks down "I never have. I can guess it is any number of reasons. My mother, the hateful attack on my friend, my life on Iceworld." Ace sighs. "I don't get the fireworks, It is just...something. It is something I can do, if the thought crosses my mind."
Mags nods "I have known others like you, some here on Vulpana. There is nothing wrong with it. You are still a strong woman who has proven that in the time since we met. I don't mind that, or the fact you broke a galactic ban to see me." she grins "Actually that makes me love you even more that you would do that just for me."
At this point a rustling is heard outside. Mags turns her head and growls a serious of sounds. The rustling stops and a taller woman walks in. She is covered in dirt, most likely for camouflage. Her hair is styled like Mags with the only difference being color. Her hair is chalk white and the patches maroon red. The woman puts down a mauled animal and walks off into another room in the cave.
Mags smiles watching her. "That is my mate Luna, or that is what it would translate to for you."
Ace watches the woman leave and then hears Mags "Your mate?"
Mags laughs, which prompts a sound similar from the other room "Oh come now Ace, you know what a mate is. Did you not think I had one here? Luna and I were mates before the Captain took me. When I returned she found me and we have been living together again since. She does the hunting though, after what I went through I can't do it anymore. That usually would result in starvation here, but she cares for me."
Ace nods. Of course she knows what mate is, she just didn't think Mags would have one. Listening to Mags talk though and the tone she uses when referring to Luna makes Ace wish more than ever she knew what fueled that type of bond with another. Ace smiles to herself "I should've thought about that."
Mags shrugs. "Should you? You don't think that way. I can't even begin to think of what your life must have been like after we met. What you and the Doctor accomplished, how being a prisoner affected you. You told me about the trials. I never could've done that." Mags reaches out holding Aces arm. "Just because you can't feel everything I do doesn't mean you aren't as strong. I would even say you are stronger."
At this point Luna comes out from the other room. Her skin is albino and her eyes deep red. She sits behind Mags resting her head on Mags' shoulder and hugging her waist. Mags for her part rests her free hand rest on top of Luna's as she looks at Ace. "I don't suppose I can get you to stay with us? Vulpana is a young world, but there is already so much life. As long as you can get used to eating raw meat, fire hasn't been discovered yet."
Ace looks at Mags "Your kidding?"
Mags shakes her head. "Here the cycles are three of your days long. we hunt for three days and rest for three. We also have an adaption that after a couple hours without the sun we can see in pure darkness. So we have no need of fire. The winters here are non existent." Mags thinks "The Captain told me is was like a summer night."
Ace is listening but the cold reality that she would be leaving Vulpana alone has started to creep up on her. As she tries to think of something to say she pulls out a box she had forgotten she brought out. "I brought you this. Kingpin held on to it."
Mags looks and opens the box, with Luna looking inside as well. In it was the old outfit she wore, even the boots. Mags smiles and tries to control the flood of emotions she is feeling finally putting the cover back on and handing it to Ace "Keep it. who knows maybe you will find someone you would like to see in it. Or" Mags leans over and whispers "Maybe you can modify it and wear it yourself?" Mags grins leaning back "If you do you have to come back so I can drink in the sight."
Ace blushes again fumbling to put the box back down, then it hits her what Mags said. "Wait, come back?"
Mags nods. "This world is under galactic quarantine with one exception I added just before Kingpin brought me home. Three people are allowed here in this cave; Kingpin, the Doctor and you. The only way that TARDIS was able to land is you are the occupant. I thought someday you two might find me again and I wanted you to be able to visit should that happen."
Ace feels a little better now. She can't travel with Mags, but she can visit. She will have other times of calm like this and she can visit her again. "Well that makes it better." Ace smiles a bit defeated.
It is then that Luna speaks. "You will always be welcome here. Mags has told me about you and I thank you for what you did for her."
Both Mags and Ace look at Luna who also appears surprised. She had meant that to be translated by Mags. Ace then laughs "It is the TARDIS. it has a way to translate language to people in its range."
Mags laughs "OK that explains it." she turns to Luna who looks quite confused "Shh, I will explain later, I promise." Luna returns her head to Mags' shoulder and closes her eyes, tired from the hunt.
Mags looks to her mate "Maybe someday. Luna may need to find a mate to breed with. And during that time, I can be with you. A lifetime here is measured in centuries, and I'm only a couple hundred years old. So I have plenty of time yet. I will always be Luna's mate, but I was taken by the Captain during the time I would procreate, and now no other will have me save her. Come back to us from time to time, and keep that outfit close, one day I will wear it again."
Ace feels a tear and hides her face. She is ashamed anytime she feels weak around others. That isn't who she is in her mind. Ace feels a finger lift her face and looks into Mags' eyes. Mags brings her close and gives her a brief kiss before sitting back. Ace sees that Luna had seen it, though Luna only smiles and nuzzles Mags. "She is love" Luna says to Ace.
Ace looks at the TARDIS, she feels it now. There is something for her to do. Ace sighs "I have to go."
Mags nods "We will be here. Our kind are at the top of the food chain for now. Go and do what you are meant to. You will always have a place of rest with us."
Ace stands up and turns feeling a tug on her pants and Mags nodding. "Don't forget the outfit. Keep it ready for me, and if you wear it or some other morsel does, I want to see how it looks." Mags grins a feral grin making Ace briefly nervous but then she smiles and takes the box. "I will need a custom outfit for me I think." Mags gets a look on her face as she imagines Ace in a similar outfit and growls in appreciation "I can't wait to see you in it."
Ace takes that time to fumble back to the TARDIS and the women hear the door close and the celestial sound again as the boulder fades from their cave. Luna nuzzles and lets her hands roam Mags' body. Mags for her part sighs happily, her thoughts drifting between her mate Luna and Ace, the one who came back.
