Liam lay on his stomach on the bed dressed only in a pair of red boxers while he stared at the laptop screen. He was looking at stock exchange information. It had been a while since he’d messed with it, but if they were going to continue hunting they would need money for motel rooms and food. He hadn’t taken anything for pain all day and the agony clouded his mind a bit, but when he was determined to do something not much could stop him.
It was starting to get dark when the door opend and Dean stepped in. “Going to tell me what you’ve got planned?” he asked, peeking curiously at the screen as he moved over to the bed.
Liam closed the screen and turned to his mate. “No peeking. Anyway, put on something nice because we’re going to dinner. I feel like being wined and dined after everything that’s happened.”
Dean leaned in to kiss him. “Alright, we’ll go somewhere nice, but I can’t promise I’ll put on a monkey suit.”
Both men moved to get dressed. Liam slipped into a pair of black dress slacks and a nice green button up shirt. Dean put on a cheap gray suit with a red tie that he usually kept for playing an FBI agent. It was really the nicest article of clothing he owned. They looked each other over and Dean couldn’t help but steal another kiss before they went downstairs.
Sam and Natalie both told them to have a good time, but to be careful. John was still out there and apparently desperate. Dean promised to keep both eyes out and they headed to the car. “Just tell me where I’m going,” Dean said as he started up the engine.
Liam gave the address of the restaurant he chose, and smirked at the thought of Dean having to turn his baby over to a valet. It was a short drive to the charming little Italian place. Liam instructed Dean to pull up front by the door and they got out. As predicted, Dean’s expression turned a little sour when the valet took the car, but he behaved himself. Liam wrapped his arm around Dean’s and escorted his mate inside.
The atmosphere was nice. The lighting was soft and there was romantic piano music playing in the background. “Fucking fags,” was mumbled by some guy who passed them, but Liam brushed it off. He was very familiar with human ignorance, so it didn’t bother him that much.
Dean tensed a little at the comment, but he didn’t say anything either. He just followed Liam up to a little desk at the front. An older gentleman was standing behind it in a black suit. He gave them a welcoming smile. “Can I help you?”
Liam returned the smile. “Reservation for Jameson.”
The man looked down and started scanning through his reservation book. “Ah, yes, here you are. Alan, will you please escort these two to their table?”
The young handsome waiter beckoned for them to follow. He led the way through the maze of tables over to one by the window and motioned for them to have a seat. Liam sank into the padded chair and took the cloth napkin off the table, draping it over his lap. Dean mirrored him, obviously having no idea what he was doing. “Would you care for some wine?” the waiter asked, handing them their menus.
“Yes,” Liam nodded, taking a look at the wine list on the table. He wasn’t supposed to have any alcohol, but screw it. There was no pain medication in his system, and he wanted the full experience of this. He really didn’t know that much about wine, only what he’d been able to smell of it over the years. “Um, bring us a bottle of pink Zinfandel, please,” he made a blind pick.
“Very well,” the waiter nodded. “I’m going to need to see your ID.”
Liam dug out his wallet and pulled out the fake ID. He got the usual look about his age, but the waiter only nodded again and headed off. It was after all a very good fake. “I think I need new papers,” Liam commented as he turned his attention to the menu. “Maybe our next stop should be Chicago to see my ID guy.”
Dean gave a little nod. "We can probably do that in a day or so," he said, shifting slightly in his chair. He wasn't all that thrilled about fancy places like this, and it showed. "You are so lucky that I adore you because I usually hate places like this. The food usually looks like something better suited to an art gallery or something like that."
Liam couldn’t help the smile that appeared on his face at the comment. A mental note was made to do something for Dean to make him happy since Dean was suffering through this to make Liam happy. Like he said before, relationships were about give and take. "I'm glad you adore me," he said as he reached out to take his mate's hand in his. "I adore you too. Next time we do something like this I'll let you plan the activities."
He pulled his hand back when the waiter returned with the bottle that was ordered. The waiter presented the bottle and Liam gave a little nod. The wine was poured and both men took a sip. Liam didn’t know what Dean thought of it, but he found it had a very nice balance between sweetness and tart acidity. He had picked well.
“I don’t know what I want,” Dean said as he looked back to the menu.
"I don't know either,” Liam replied. “I just know Italian food has always smelled so good to me. Now I can actually eat it. I'd try a little bit of everything if I didn't think my stomach would explode." He lowered the menu and just looked at Dean for a moment. The guy looked really sharp in the cheap suit, but somehow it didn't suit him. No, Liam liked him better the way he usually was. "Dean, can I ask you something? We really have been through hell since the ritual. I got sick and died, you sold your soul to bring me back, then your father promptly tried to kill me... twice... and damn near succeeded both times. Do you regret it?"
Dean’s eyes narrowed at his lover. “How could you ask me something like that? Sure, things haven’t been coming up roses, but I love you. I used to sit and think to myself that I was probably going to spend the rest of my life alone and die having never been loved. Then you plopped yourself into my lap. You startled me because I always pictured myself with a woman. Like I said, I’ve never had these kinds of feelings for a guy before. But here you are now, and every minute I’ve spent in bed snuggled up next you has been worth it. Do I wish things had turned out a little differently? Of course I do. Things would probably be so much better if you had had better judgment and waited a month. But shit happened and things are what they are. No, I don’t regret anything that brought you to me. I mean, here I am in a suit sitting in a fancy place feeling like tits on a bull all to make you happy. Doesn’t that tell you anything?”
“It does,” Liam nodded, taking Dean’s hand again and giving it a little squeeze. “I’m also very glad we were brought together, despite the frustrations. And thank you for coming here with me, by the way. You will be handsomely rewarded when I’m healed.”
“Yeah?” Dean gave him a smile that made him weak in the knees.
“Oh, yeah,” Liam nodded. “Just bare with me tonight. It’ll all be very worth it,” he gave a little smirk.
The waiter approached them again. “Have you decided?”
Liam decided to go with bruschetta for an appetizer, and the cheese tortellini in alfredo sauce with broccoli. Dean just ordered chicken parmigiana over spaghetti. The waiter wrote down the order and took their menus. “I’ll get that right out to you gentleman.”
“On a more pleasant note,” Dean said as he took another sip of wine, “all that stuff you were looking at earlier when I came in, was that stock market related stuff?”
“It was,” Liam nodded. “I figured we were going to need money. I don’t know how you usually get your hands on it, but I’m doing what I know how to help.”
Dean shifted in his seat again. “Well, to be honest, mostly credit card scams. Then there’s hustling at pool and poker games.”
“So, mostly illegal stuff,” Liam shook his head. “And stuff that doesn’t bring in a whole lot at once.”
Dean shrugged. “Yeah, well, we get by. Hunting isn’t exactly a job that pays you know, and we still need a place to sleep and food in our stomachs, so...”
“I know,” Liam nodded. “We all do what we have to.”
“I don’t mean to bring up a sore subject, but what did Jason do for money?”
Liam shrugged. “Pretty much the same stuff you do. There weren’t credit cards back then though. He relied heavily on my stash I had at the time, though he hated it. Damn pride… It wasn’t like I minded. He did rob banks a few times. They were much easier to break into back then if you knew how. When my money ran out there were a few times we had to steal food. Those aren’t good memories.”
Dean nodded. “I know all about that. Oh, you are paying for this dinner right? I saw those prices, and… ouch...”
Liam chuckled. “Relax, I got it covered. Anyway, what if I told you the investments I made today, if they go the way I think they will, could net fifty grand easy.”
Dean’s eyes nearly bugged out of his head. “Are you fucking shitting me?”
“Nope,” Liam smirked. “Consider me your personal cash cow. People make and lose huge fortunes on the market every day. I mean, no one is perfect, I’ve been wrong before. However, it’s mostly a matter of predicting human behavior. It’s hard to explain, but everything in the world is connected, like one giant web. I don’t have a degree in this stuff by any means, but from the way I seem to understand it, it seems to be mostly cause and effect. I look at both ongoing trends and current events to try and determine what I think people will do. I really have no idea if that’s the way it’s all supposed to work. All I can say is it’s been working out great for me.”
Dean shook his head. “You really are a fricken genius. I mean it, you just fucking blew my mind. I don’t understand any of it, but that fact that you do… Even if you’re just getting really lucky a lot, I’m impressed.”
Liam practically glowed at the compliment. “It’s really not that big of a deal.”
“But it is,” Dean insisted. “You not only survived in the world for over three hundred years, but you thrived. You didn’t have anyone to teach you or rely on but yourself, and you figured things out beautifully. You’re not just beautiful, you’re also caring, very intelligent, and extremely determined. I couldn’t ask for a better companion.”
Liam shrugged. “You’re not so bad yourself. You have your own kind of smarts that makes you a damn good hunter. You do the job because you like to help people, even though you weren’t so crazy about me at first. I’m glad Sam talked you into it though.”
“For the first time, I’m also very glad Sam talked me into something. When I first met you it was no secret I was itching to take your head off. Now, the thought of doing anything to harm you sickens me.”
They were interrupted by Liam’s bruschetta being brought out. “Even with this nose it smells heavenly,” Liam said as he grabbed a piece to take a bite. As soon as it touched his tongue a look of instant pleasure was on his face. “It tastes even better than that.”
“Can I try a bite?” Dean asked.
“Sure, go ahead.”
Dean picked up the other piece and took an exploratory bite. “Not what I’m used to, but really not bad.” He put the piece back on the little plate and just watched as Liam thoroughly enjoyed it.
“Better than watching me drink blood, isn’t it?” Liam commented after he finished the first piece.
“Much,” Dean nodded. “As much as I loved you just as you were as a vampire, I really like having you human. Though, to be honest, I still worry about your more annoying qualities causing a problem. I’m nervous about taking you on your first hunt. You promised you would listen, but your track record...”
Liam nodded as he took the second piece and started working on it. “I understand completely. I guess all you can really do is be nervous about it and let me prove myself. I have to get used to my new limitations, but I adapt.”
“I know you do. I’m also terrified my dad won’t stop his quest to save me from myself. One of these days I’m not going to be able to stop him.”
“Now that we’re on the subject, how did you guys find me so fast in that hotel room?”
“Natalie put a tracker on Dad’s truck one day when he wasn’t paying attention.”
“Oh, that was smart. I owe her.”
“We both do. We owe her a lot, actually. Anyway, since tonight is for our, well, mostly your enjoyment, we should stick to less heavy subjects.” Dean took another sip of his wine and looked around. “How did you pick this place anyway?”
Liam shrugged, finishing the last bite of his appetizer. “I looked up Italian restaurants in the area and read reviews. A lot of people seemed to really like this place, so I figured it was worth a shot.”
“Yeah, I guess this would be a nice place if you go for this sort of thing. I don’t, but… Like I said, you’re very lucky I adore you.”
“I know it,” Liam gave him a little smile.
Their food was brought out, and Liam’s eyes grew wide at the large bowl of pasta that was set in front of him. “I’m not going to be able to finish all that.”
Dean shrugged. “Just finish what you can without stuffing yourself and they should let you take the rest home.”
Liam nodded and picked up his fork to take a bite. “Oh, this is really good too. I think I’m enjoying the food aspect of my humanity more than I really should.”
Dean chuckled. “Don’t think too much about it, just enjoy it. You only had one thing day in and day out for a very long time. Now a whole new world of options is at your feet. Don’t worry, once we get on the road again you’ll soon get just as sick of crappy food as we are.”
Liam took the advice and threw himself into his meal. They continued to talk about trivial things until Liam was convinced he couldn’t swallow another bite. He never got that full feeling as a vampire, and it felt good. As Dean predicted, the waiter offered them a to go box. Dean hadn’t finished all of his either so they both put what was left into little white styrofoam containers.
The check was brought and even Liam was a little shocked. “You don’t wanna know,” he said as he took out his debit card and placed it in the little slot.
“I’ll take your word for it,” Dean said as the waiter came to collect the check and ring them up.
The waiter came back a few minutes later with two copies of the receipt. Liam had to sign one and he got to keep the other. “Have a good evening,” the waiter gave them a little nod and left.
The two men got up from the table with their boxes in hand and headed out the door. When the Impala was brought back out front Dean had to inspect her closely. Liam laughed as he got into the passenger seat. Dean really did have a strong attachment to his car.
“Is this the end of the evening?” Dean asked before they headed out.
“No, but the rest of it is back at the house. Don’t look so disappointed. We’re getting to spend time together.”
“I like spending time with you, it’s just that this place is not my kind of place.”
“I know, and I appreciate it. Don’t worry, the rest of the evening won’t be nearly so bad.”
“It wasn’t that bad,” Dean said as he pulled out onto the road. “I just felt out of place.”
Liam was quiet on the way back to the house. Mostly he was just enjoying a quiet night with Dean. Hopefully Natalie would have part number two ready for them like she promised. When they pulled into the driveway Dean groaned at the sight of his father’s truck. “Stay in the car,” Dean ordered as he parked and got out.
“Do I have to put a fucking bullet in your head for you to take the hint?” Dean called out as he searched around for his dad.
“I just want to talk,” John appeared by a tree a few feet away.
Dean crossed his arms. “So talk.”
“I’ve been doing some research into your little vampire. Do you know how many good hunters he’s killed?”
“One hundred sixty three,” Liam answered the question, now standing beside Dean. “And all in self defense.”
Dean rolled his eyes and shook his head. “I fucking told you to stay in the car! Here you already are not listening.”
Liam sighed. “I need to be able to defend myself don’t I?”
“That’s a much bigger number than I thought,” John said, getting them to turn their attention back to him. “Dean, are you really okay with that? One hundred and sixty three good men all dead because of him.”
“It’s bad, but the fact that he remembers the number says something to me. It says he also feels remorse.”
“I do,” Liam nodded. “Just like the one you were after me over, it was me or them. If all of them would have just left me alone they’d have lived longer than they did. I’m not a cold blooded killer, never have been.”
“See,” Dean nodded. “He was just trying to survive like the rest of us. I can’t hardly blame the guy for that. And he’s human now, so no more hunters will get hurt. The only things he’ll be killing are monsters.”
“I can blame him,” John said as he pulled out a 9mm and aimed at Liam.
Liam hid behind Dean who looked like he was about to spit nails. “Dad, I swear to god, if you hurt him...”
“You’re gonna do what? Looks like you don’t even have a weapon.”
“He doesn’t, but I do,” Sam appeared on the porch with his gun in hand with it trained on his father. “Leave now!”
“You’d really shoot me, Sammy?” John looked hurt.
Sam swallowed hard. “Don’t tempt me. Like I’ve been trying to tell you, Liam makes Dean happy. Quit trying to take that away from him because you don’t like it.”
“He won’t be so happy in the pit. That no good, lying, hunter killing sack of shit shouldn’t be breathing right now.”
“But he is,” Dean said as he reached behind him to take Liam’s hand. “He is because I decided I’d rather die than have him any other way. That was my decision and we’re all just going to have to live with it. Sam and I are trying to find a way out, but we can’t do that if we’re constantly having to watch our backs for you.”
“A bullet in his head would solve the problem real quick. Though the longer we wait because of your sick attachment...”
“It’s been six days,” Dean said in an irritated tone. “That ship has probably already sailed. Just let us find door number two.”
“Fine,” John growled. “I leave you for now, but this is not over.”
They all watched as John got into his truck and sped off. Dean turned to wrap his arms around Liam. “I’m just gonna get out of these clothes, get a bath, and meet you in bed.”
“No, you’re not,” Liam insisted. “I made plans, and I’m not going to let your father ruin my night.”
“Yeah, I’m just gonna go back to the library until it’s time to turn in,” Sam said.
“Thanks for sticking up for us, Sammy,” Dean nodded.
“Anytime,” Sam said as he went back inside.
Dean kept his arm around Liam as they also headed inside. “So, what else you got planned for us?”
“A movie,” Liam answered. When they went inside on the coffee table in the sitting room was a big bowl of cheese popcorn and a brand new copy of Top Gun on DVD. Natalie had come through for him. “Ever seen it?” he picked up the DVD.
“No,” Dean answered. “Was always too busy taking care of Sam or hunting to watch movies.”
“Well, that’s what you’re going to do with me tonight. I picked this one because it’s got romance for me and action for you. I’ve already seen it a couple dozen times, but hey, it’s a good movie. So, go ahead and get changed because I know you want to. I’ll pop this in the player and wait for you.”
“Okay, I’ll put these in the fridge too,” Dean nodded as he took their food boxes to the kitchen.
Liam started ripping the plastic off the movie case and tossed it before taking the DVD out and putting it in the player. He turned everything on and it was ready to go by the time Dean came back down dressed in his usual jeans and a black t-shirt. “Feel better?” Liam asked with a little smile.
“Oh, yeah, much,” Dean nodded as he plopped himself on the couch by Liam.
Liam pressed play on the remote and leaned back against Dean, resting his head against Dean’s chest and placing a hand on his thigh. The two men stared at the screen as the movie started. While they watched Liam occasionally glanced back at Dean’s face to get some kind of read on whether not he was enjoying the movie too. “So, what do you think so far?” he asked when they got to the volleyball scene.
Dean shrugged. “I think you’ve awakened something in me and I have a new appreciation for the male form.”
Liam laughed. “Yeah, the shirtless hot men don’t hurt.”
“But they don’t have near the appeal to me that you do,” Dean kissed the side of Liam’s head.
“But what do you think of the movie?”
“I told you I’m not the sit around and watch a movie type, but I guess it’s okay. At least you didn’t pick a really girly, sappy movie.”
Liam frowned and deflated a little. “I was trying to have a fun night with you that we would both like at least a little.”
“Hey...” Dean wrapped an arm around his mate and pulled him a little closer. “I am enjoying a nice evening with you. Just because what we’re doing is not exactly up my alley, that doesn’t mean I’m not happy just being alone with you. You didn’t put a gun to my head and force me to do these things. I like making you happy, and if in doing that I get to cuddle on the couch with you in the dark, that’s a bonus.”
Liam smiled and leaned up to plant a tender kiss on Dean’s lips. When the sad part was coming up he burred his face in Dean’s chest. “What’s wrong?” Dean asked, gently stroking his hair.
“Nothing, I just know what’s gonna happen next.”
“Oh,” Dean nodded and snuggled him close. “Yeah, I see what you mean. That really sucks. I kinda liked that character.”
They finished the movie and Liam turned it off. “Well?”
“It was pretty good. You’ve got good taste in movies I think. Is that it for the night, or do you have even more planned?”
Liam frowned. “I had more planned up in the bedroom, but if you just wanna go to bed...”
Dean put a hand on Liam’s chin and pulled his head up to look him in the eye. “I was only asking a question, not implying anything. If you’ve got more planned I am happy to go along with it, as long as it doesn’t involve anything that will put too much strain on you. Don’t think I haven’t noticed that you haven’t taken a pain pill since last night. You’ll take one now before we continue this.”
Liam nodded and took Dean’s hand to lead him up to the bedroom. He grabbed a pill and went into the bathroom to get some water to take it with before returning and starting to undress. Dean did the same, looking a little skeptical of what Liam had planned. When both of them had all their clothes off Liam grabbed Dean’s cock and started sinking to his knees. “Nope,” Dean shook his head.
“But my mouth isn’t broken,” Liam argued. “It won’t put any strain on me.”
“As good as that would feel right now, I’m going to say no. It feels like you’re trying to repay me for the rest of the evening, and I don’t want you to feel like you need to do that. I wanted to do this for you. Tonight is all about you and your pleasure. Why is there a big white feather on the night stand?” he asked when he noticed it.
“Oh, that?” Liam said as he looked over at it. Natalie had come through again. “I was hoping that after I tended to you that you would indulge me once more.”
“With a feather?” Dean looked a little confused.
“Yeah.” Liam grabbed the feather and lightly ran it against Dean’s shoulder down his bare arm.
A light came on in Dean’s eyes. “Oh. You like that do you?”
Liam nodded. “Very much, especially on my back.”
“Well then, I propose we skip me and go right for the indulging you part. Lie down on your stomach. If it’s your back you like, it’s your back you’ll get.”
Liam pulled Dean in for a kiss before very carefully getting onto the bed on his stomach. He swept his hair off to the side so his whole back would be exposed. When he was settled he felt the feather touch the bottom of the back of his neck and sweep down his spine. He shivered at the exquisite sensation. He couldn’t help but let out a little whimper as the feather traced its way across his shoulders.
Liam lay there very content and relaxed as Dean tickled his entire back, even making little patterns on his skin. His back arched when the feather moved down and along the very sensitive border between the bottom of his back and the top of his ass. Then the feather ventured to lightly caress one ass cheek and Liam let out a little moan. He gasped and jumped when Dean dared to take the tip of the feather and brush the very top of his ass crack. Dean chuckled. “You really are sensitive, aren’t you?”
“I am,” Liam nodded.
“Do you want me to stop now, or keep going?”
“Keep going.”
“Alright, your wish is my command.” Dean continued, doing his arms first, and then his legs. Liam gasped again when he felt a brush against the sole of his foot. He held still for it though, and both feet were done.
“Okay,” Dean said as he set the feather aside. “You’ve now been thoroughly tickled. How does that feel?”
“Really good,” Liam answered. “You know, I know tonight was not your ideal of a good time, but I really enjoyed it, except for when your dad came by.”
“Good,” Dean smiled. “Your enjoyment was the whole point. And yeah, my asshole father did have to put a cramp in things. But, now I propose we do my favorite activity, which is cuddle in bed until we fall asleep.”
“I can do that,” Liam smiled. “Just let me run to the bathroom quick, and I’m all yours.”
As soon as Liam put his boxers back on his phone started ringing. Wondering who the hell wanted what at this hour he picked it up to answer. “Missy, something wrong?” he asked as he got up to head for the bathroom. “You don’t usually call me, especially not at this hour.”
He took the phone into the bathroom, coming back a few minutes later looking rather shaken up. “What’s wrong?” Dean asked.
“It’s Alice,” Liam bit his lip and headed over the bed to sit down. “Missy says she just got rushed to the hospital a little while ago with really bad pneumonia. She’s not doing so good, and she’s been asking for me.”
Dean wrapped an arm around him and pulled him close when he started to cry. “If she needs you then we’ll go. Not tonight because everyone is so tired and it’s so late, but very first thing in the morning. Will you be okay for a minute while I go let Sam and Natalie know what’s going on?”
Liam nodded, and laid down on the bed, curling into a ball with tears running down his cheeks. Dean left him only long enough to go knock on Sam and Natalie’s doors to fill them in. Then he came back and crawled into bed with Liam, snuggling his lover close. “It’s gonna be okay. She looked like a tough old lady. I’m sure she’ll be fine.”
