After they lost Bob and Eugene to Terminus, Rick, Shannon, Michonne, Ty and Abe were on their feet again, and more desperate than ever. They set out through the woods, often stumbling due to exhaustion and hunger. They went from house to house, trying to find a morsel of food. Rick told his friends that they need weapons. They sat in a circle and watched as Rick used his knife to whittle tree branches into spears. Rick wouldn't sleep at night, even when he wasn't on guard. He would sit and stare at the fire, thinking of everyone who died. His hatred for Michonne was hard to mask. She was so close to killing the Governor, and if she did everyone would be safe. He refused to look at her, and would walk away whenever she got close. He needed his family. Their blood is on her hands. One night Abe and Ty had to take Rick's Colt away from him, since he had it in his mouth and his finger on the trigger. He was stuck. He couldn't move on. He lost his entire family.
It was getting cold. They didn't have any shelter, and the only source of warmth was a small fire, but they had to keep the flames low. The wet sticks hissed as the snow continued to fall. They passed through towns with billboards advertising products that no longer exist. They would find the occasional car and drive it, headed north, and sleep in it when they ran out of gas. They were cold, tired, and hungry. They were just hanging on. In the evenings they walked across a cold, wet field, trying to find a place where the flames would not be seen.
As they continued to scavenge for supplies, their conversation continued to mimic the mood; very sparse and exists as more of a frame for a conversation rather than a full discussion. When they were on foot Michonne would use her Kantana to kill the walkers that appeared, then when they eventually found some rope at an abandoned hardware store, she made "pets" for everyone. She knew that she should have killed the Governor when she had the chance. They would still be at the prison. Their friends would still be alive. He knew that Abe and Shannon would be having sex, being as quite as they could about it. Same for Ty and Michonne. Rick never felt more alone. Every dream he had was of his family. He thought of the last time he saw them. He tried to yell to her to take cover, before a large portion of the wall crushed her. One day, after months of simmering tension, Rick's rage at Michonne took over.
"We lost our home. We lost our friends. We lost everything, because of YOU. YOU did this."
"Rick, you have no idea what he did to me." Michonne hissed.
"Then why didn't you kill him? You could have done that and saved Maggie. She's dead because of YOU. LORI. My WIFE. My CHILDREN. DEAD. Because of YOU."
"Rick, cool it" Ty tried to step in.
"No, Ty, no. She left Lori and Maggie on their own to die. That's on her. Hershel probably had a heart attack when he saw his daughter. He's dead because of you. My WIFE. My KIDS are dead because of YOU. I've heard what you've said to Ty about your kids. You left two daughters and a son alone with two guys who were on drugs. And you want sympathy because they died? How many more people are you gonna kill?"
Michonne didn't say anything, just walked away. Ty went up to Rick and demanded he apologize. "No. No way. We lost our home because of her. We would have never gone to Terminus. Bob and Eugene would still be alive. Your sister, Ty. Who else...Morgan, Duane, Andrea, Shane, Daryl, Merle, the baby, everyone. We lost EVERYONE because of her. They would still be alive if that stupid bitch killed that man. If she took another minute, we'd still have a home and family."
Rick walked away before he threw a punch, at either Ty or Michonne. He thought of ways to kill her. He could wait until there was a walker near her and shoot her instead.
As the weeks went by, Ty broke up with Michonne. He didn't care that they almost had a child together. He thought about the type of person she is; three children, almost four, each by a different man. He started to doubt the story she told about her abuse. Dumb bitch could have save everyone if she killed the guy. Michonne started yelling at Ty and Rick, telling them about what happened. Shannon, who suffered the same pain, also asked Michonne why she didn't kill the man. "Everyone who died. Their blood is on YOUR hands."
Michonne grabbed Shannon's long red hair and started punching the back of her head. The only way they could separate the two was for Ty to grab onto Michonne shirt and pulled her backward. After he yanked her off Shannon he pushed her away with such force that she hit a tree with her face and lost consciousness. Ty unhooked the Kantana holder and gave it and the sword to Shannon. He looked at the redhead and said "I think the fighting Irish can do better than her."
They walked away, leaving Michonne unconscious and with no way to defend herself. Everyone lost someone because of her. She's just a memory.
After a long day of walking, they approached an abandoned grocery store. Rick, told everyone to stand back, and they knocked on the glass and waited a few moments. No walkers appeared, so Ty pulled out a crowbar and forced the doors open. Ty and Rick went into the store, handguns pointing around, in an attempt to clear it. The store looked stocked, and didn't smell of rotting corpses. This could be shelter, for a while.
"Clear." Rick said, just as everyone started to filter in.
The man heard the larger group; Rick, Ty, Abe and Shannon, walk in, and knew he was outnumbered. He heard the door to the ladies' room open, and turned the corner, arms raised.
"Please help." Martinez said.
"Keep your hands up." Rick said, as he kept his colt aimed right on the man.
"Please help." Martinez repeated.
"You have a group? A camp?" Ty asked as Rick frisked the man.
As he was about to answer, Shannon came out of the bathroom, and the redhead took out her Katana.
"He's one of them. He took us. He killed Maggie, and raped Lori"
