Hotch InarusDisclaimer: I do not own Criminal Minds, nor do I make any profit off of writing this.SLASH WARNING!!! Hotch / ReidWritten for the Chit Chat on Author’s Corner Halloween Horrors Challenge. The moderators supplied a number of titles of the novels of the Master of Horror himself, Stephen King. We were to pick any title and write a fic using that as the prompt. I chose, “Cycle of the Werewolf”Chapter 25
Neither Aaron Hotchner, nor Spencer Reid, were ready to go to work in the morning. Both were sore, both from the mating and their healing injuries. Reid quietly held still while his new mate looked him over closely, inspecting his wrist and ankle where Noriko’s brothers had grabbed him in their teeth, and then looking over every scratch, bite and bruise from their mating. Once he was certain that Reid was fine to work and no one would see the marks from their mating.
Then the alpha had to hold still while his omega performed the same inspection on him, focusing on his healing gunshot wound.“Wow…” Reid murmured.“I told you we wolves heal quickly.” Hotch smirked.“Yeah, I know. I just didn’t expect you to heal this quickly. I sure don’t.”“Maybe it has something to do with your ties to your wolf heritage? Or the fact that I’m alpha and you’re omega?”“Maybe…” Reid said, tying his shoes.“Coffee should be done by now.” Hotch said. “We’ll pick up some breakfast on the way in.”“Sounds good.” Reid said, running a hand over his hair and following the man out of the bedroom. Reid prepared their coffees while Hotch gathered their GoBags, and the pair were soon in the car and heading in to work. The drive was quiet and comfortable, and the pair stopped off to pick up some donuts and breakfast burritos to bring in for the team, thought Reid didn’t wait until they were at work to get into them. He had some fun popping a donut hole into Hotch’s mouth every time the man tried to speak. When they arrived in the bull pen, Reid immediately announced that breakfast was served, and the whole team gathered in the Round Table Room, doors closed, to eat… and to grill Hotch and Reid about their weekend…“… So…” Garcia said, not one to wait for someone ELSE to ask. “Did you two…”“What?” Hotch asked, looking amused.“You know…”“Did we do what?” Hotch asked.“… Each other.” Emily blurted.Reid choked on his coffee and Morgan sighed, whacking him on the back a couple of times and shooting Emily a look.“What?” She asked putting on an innocent look. She couldn’t keep it up though. She grinned devilishly.“This really isn’t any of your business.” Hotch said calmly.“Uh, yes it is.” Garcia blurted. “If some crazy bitch is gunning for my baby and you two doing the mattress mambo is what will keep him safe…”Hotch stopped, donut halfway to his mouth, and Reid squeaked and turned red.“That’s classy, mama.” Morgan chuckled, grinning at Garcia.“Seriously, though.” Emily said. “She’s right. We want to help and protect you two… you’re family.”“That doesn’t mean you have to know about… THAT!” Reid cried.“Yes we do!” Garcia blurted.“No.” Emily laughed. “But it WOULD help to know whether or not you did it at all.” And the entire team stared.“… I know perfectly well that you want to know mostly because it drives you crazy NOT knowing.” Hotch snorted, smirking. “But since you can’t see and smell like wolves, otherwise you would know already… Yes.”“You did it?!” JJ blurted.“Details!” Garcia cried, and Reid howled “NO!”Hotch smirked, sipping his coffee. “And ‘mattress mambo’ doesn’t quite… do it justice.”“Wait… did you two do it… like dogs?” Garcia asked.“Hey! We don’t want to know that!” Morgan yelped, now looking alarmed.“Do you mean doggy-style or do you mean did they do it as wolves?” Emily asked, looking at Garcia.“Okay, I don’t need to be hearing this anymore.” Rossi said, also looking rather unnerved.“There was no fur.” Hotch chuckled. “Spencer would never allow it. And you don’t get details. All you need to know is that it was done.”“But—““No.” Hotch sad firmly, giving Garcia a look.“So… that’s it then.” JJ said. “You’ve um…”“Mated.” Hotch supplied.“Yeah… so… this means you’re safe, right? This woman—““Bitch.” Garcia supplied.“—won’t be coming after Spence anymore?”“I’d like to say yes.” Hotch sighed. “But… it seems she’s still not willing to give up.”“What do you mean?” Morgan asked“She… tried to attack him after we had… consummated.” Hotch confessed. “She and her brothers.”“So… what are we looking at?” Rossi asked.“Well…” Hotch said slowly. “Before, she was trying to scare him away… and her plan was to mate with me. But now that Spencer and I are mated, to get to me, she only has one option… She’s going to try to kill him.”“You said he would be protected!” Garcia squealed.“… I… truly thought he would be.” Hotch sighed, drooping a bit. “I had no idea she would be this relentless.”“Some profiler YOU are.”“Shut up, Dave.”“So now what?” JJ asked.“I’m not sure.” Hotch admitted. “I’ll… probably have to seek help from the pack.”“… I don’t have to go with you to see them, do I?!” Reid yelped, looking frightened.“Spencer… They won’t hurt you!”“That’s what you said at the beginning! And now there’s a crazy alpha female and her brothers out to kill me!” Hotch sighed and rolled his eyes, and gave Morgan a look when the man said “He has a point, Hotch.”“Spencer… Ralph and Bev want to help. And so do the others.”“Others?” Reid asked. “I have friends too, Spencer. Just as they protected you on the Run, and just as they defended us the other night… they’re willing to stand with us against her.”Reid just groaned and allowed his head to fall to the table with a loud THUNK! Hotch eyed him, then rolled his eyes and shook his head, taking another donut. Morgan chuckled and ruffled Reid’s hair. Reid jerked away and smacked at his hand, growling. Morgan froze at the glint of gold in Reid’s normally brown eyes, and at the way his teeth suddenly seemed to sharpen.“Spencer, knock it off!” Hotch barked, and Reid froze, then slumped down, submitting to his alpha’s will. “I don’t care if they know the truth, do NOT show them your teeth! They may not be wolves… but they’re OUR pack.”“… Awww…” Garcia cooed, flushing and grinning. “We’re your pack?”“The closest we have.” Hotch smiled.“Wow… How flattering!” Garcia giggled.A moment later, the door was flung open.“Agent Jareau?”“Anderson…” JJ said, looking at the man. She stood and accepted the file he was holding out to her.“This just came in.” He said, and she opened it up.“… Whoa.” “What is it, JJ?” Hotch asked.“… We… need to get on this…” She laid the folder down. “We’ve got bodies in Oregon…”“Wow…” Reid breathed, snagging the top photo. Hotch leaned in and looked at it. The photo was of an old, gnarled tree… Chains hung from the branches, and hanging from the shackles was the body of a young woman… or at least what used to be… now it was a mauled corpse, flesh hanging from the bones in tattered ribbons… “Let me see those…” Hotch said, and the team immediately focused on him, hearing the tense tone in his voice. JJ blinked and slid the folder across the table, and Hotch snagged it. He began to go through the photos of the body, looking more and more agitated with each close up shot.“What is it?” Reid asked.“Look at the wounds…” Hotch said, and passed the photos to Reid. Reid inspected them, and then his eyes widened.“… Oh.”“What is it?” Morgan asked.“This woman… she was ripped apart…” Reid said. “By wolves.”“… By… wolves?” Emily asked. “Or… Werewolves…?”“… I’m not sure yet.” Hotch said, then looked at the team. “And other remains were found?”“Uh…” JJ said, looking through the information. “Oh… Wow…”“JJ?”“Um… yeah. Three other bodies. They were all killed approximately a month apart.”“When did the last victim die?” Hotch demanded, and Reid thumbed through some papers. “Um… she was found three days after the full moon. The coroner places her time of death at… three days before she was found.” Reid took a breath, then looked up at Hotch. “The next full moon is in about two weeks…”“We need to get out there.” Hotch said, his voice low and gravelly. “Reid… Pack the silver bullets.”
The team was tense on the flight out to Oregon, all of them wondering if they were flying out to hunt down some killer werewolves… all while knowing that there were still killer werewolves back home in DC… They somehow managed to take comfort in watching their leader… and their youngest. The alpha wolf sat silently, studying the case file before him. His young mate was curled into his side, head resting on the alpha’s shoulder, also studying the case file in the Unit Chief’s hands. After a bit, Hotch wrapped an arm around Reid and pressed a kiss to the top of his head. Reid smiled and nuzzled his alpha.
Emily and JJ met glances and smiled at each other, and JJ discreetly snapped a photo on her phone and sent it to Garcia. Moments later, she appeared on the laptop screen, looking eager.“PSST!!!!” She hissed. “Turn me around!”Emily grinned and reached out, turning the laptop around so that the webcam pointed at Hotch and Reid.“Awwww!!!” She squealed, and Hotch and Reid looked up. “You two are so CUTE!!!” Reid flushed and Hotch gave Emily and JJ a look. They both just grinned and shrugged. Rossi and Morgan chuckled.“Garcia… you had better have a REASON for this…” Hotch said, warningly.“Oh… Uh, well… I have the report on the latest victim and the others… There was DNA on the bodies that could not be identified… no known species. They believe that the DNA is degraded and contaminated because she was hanging out there for a few days before she was found.” Hotch and Reid both frowned. “And… They’ve also um… just dug up five more bodies. Mostly just bones, but… there are… marks on them. They think they’re from… the teeth of animals. Large animals. They suspect bears or wolves…”“But bears and wolves didn’t shackle them to a tree.” Morgan pointed out.“No.” Hotch said immediately. “But Werewolves could have.” The team stared at the two men who they now knew were not human… “Reid… you’re coming to the crime scene with me. We need to… sniff around. Morgan, I want you to come with us. An unbiased party. I don’t want US to jump to conclusions.”“So you’re going in to find signs of werewolves, and you want me there to play the devil’s advocate and try to argue against it?”“Yes.” Hotch nodded.“… Alright.” Morgan sighed.“Dave, I want you and Prentiss to go to the ME’s office and take a closer look at the remains. Garcia… I want you to see about ID’s all of the victims and getting the victim’s families in for an interview…”“As the Alpha commands!” Garcia nodded, and disappeared, Hotch shooting the computer a look.“JJ, get us set up and start looking into what the press knows…”“You go it.” JJ nodded.“Alright… everyone rest up… I have a bad feeling about this one…” Hotch said, and the team watched as Hotch went to his GoBag and pulled out two Glocks. He handed on to Reid, and the pair began to load them with silver bullets. Then Hotch handed Reid a holster, taking up one for himself. The pair affixed the holsters to their ankles and slid the Glocks into them. Reid leaned over and peered through the window, staring at the dark land below them, glimpsed through the pale gray clouds…“Kid…” Morgan laughed as he managed reach out and catch Reid before the young man toppled over. “You’re a werewolf… aren’t you USED to being in the woods?”
“Reid grew up human.” Hotch chuckled. “The only time he’s ever been in the woods is with us. On a case.”“We need to take him camping, Hotch.”“I’m game, if you’re okay with going out into the woods with a pair of werewolves.” Hotch said, shooting Morgan a smirk. Morgan grinned.“I’ve worked with you this long. I trust you.”“Good to know.” Hotch said, and they finally stepped into the clearing that was filled with people, equipment and crime scene tape. Morgan watched as Hotch and Reid both stopped in their tracks, nostrils quivering. His pulse quickened when he saw their eyes turn gold, and the pair met one another’s gaze, before their eyes returned to normal.“Well?” Morgan asked softly.“… There were werewolves here.” Hotch said in a low tone. “Four? Five?” Reid murmured.“Seven.” Hotch said. “One alpha, three beta, two delta and one gamma. All male.”“The alphas and the betas have marked the area.” Reid told Morgan.“Two of them are older… one middle aged… the others younger.” Hotch added.Morgan just stared at them. “You can tell that by smell?!”Reid nodded, and Hotch moved further into the clearing, skirting about the people working on exhuming more bodies, and approaching the tree… bloody shackles still hung from its branches. Reid glanced at Morgan, and the pair followed after their Unit Chief.“You must be the FBI.” Came a gruff voice. The three men turned when the large, burly sheriff approached. His hair was graying and he had a thick moustache and leathery skin. He looked over the three agents before him, who all had to look UP at him…“Aaron Hotchner.” Hotch greeted, not intimidated. He offered his hand and the sheriff shook it. “Unit Chief. These are Supervisory Special Agents Derek Morgan and Dr. Spencer Reid. The others are working other aspects of the case.”“Well, I appreciate you folks comin’ out here. I have no idea what we’re dealing with…”He glanced over as Reid edged closer to the tree, peering up at the shackles, inspecting every inch… then he turned his gaze to the tree.“Oh wow…” He breathed. “Sheriff?”“Yeah?” The man asked, walking over to the young agent. “You didn’t send us pictures of the tree…”“We uh... we didn’t notice this until later…” The Sheriff said, sounding very on edge.“What is it?” Hotch asked.“Look.” Reid said, and pointed at the tree. There, carved into the old trunk, were writings and symbols. He leaned in closer. “Some of these are… really old.”“We’re finding bodies that may be years old at this point.” The Sheriff said.“No…” Reid mumbled. “I mean they’re DECADES old… some of these may have been here for a century…”“You don’t think that there could be victims going back that far, do you?” The Sheriff gaped.“That is NOT likely.” Morgan said, though Hotch could see the nervous look in his eye.Hotch gave a sigh, betraying his frustration. He wanted to go over this crime scene with Reid… without anyone else there to oversee them… something about this one didn't feel right. He had a feeling that there was more than met the eye... or his nose for that matter. He had a bad feeling about this one...
