Episode 27: Conversations
“I said I’m sorry, Rhade,” Aries said apologetically, slowly getting irritated. It was the fourth time she’d apologized for knocking him nearly senseless. Their sparring session had gone just fine until Dylan called down from the command deck, distracting Aries. Distracted, she hadn’t pulled back on one f her punches and sent Rhade flying into the wall. He cracked his head and passed out for a minute.
“Look, Aries, I appreciate what you’re trying to do and I know your sorry for what you did,” Rhade said stiffly, rubbing his head as they headed for the med deck, “but I think I’d really like to be alone now.”
Aries watched him stalk off. She leaned against a wall and looked up at the ceiling. “Well, I tried,” she said.
Don’t worry too much about it, Aries, a voice whispered back in her mind. Things will sort themselves out in due course.
“And if this all falls apart? What then?”
The voice paused. Total annihilation of all we know and love? Utter chaos?
Aries groaned. “You’re not very comforting, you know?”
What, you want me to comfort you now? “Who’re you talking to Aries?” Rommie asked, walking over to her.
“Huh? Oh, just myself.”
“Do you often hold conversations with yourself?”
“Yes, actually,” Aries said stiffly, walking away from the ship’s avatar. “That was close,” she muttered under her breath.
Just don’t let anyone catch you doing this again. I’ve often told you that you need to work on your communication skills, the voice scolded. If they find out about this, it’ll uncover who you are, who I am, and put everything in jeopardy.
“Enough already!” she shouted, startling several passing crew members. She smiled innocently and ducked into her cabin. “This isn’t easy.”
No, but it’s necessary. Aries, I have to go. We’ll talk again soon.
And just like that, Aries was alone again. It wasn’t easy for her to be separated from that other person, but it was necessary if the future was going to be repaired and her family restored. She lay down on the bed, face down. “I only hope that we’re not too late.”

Trance cleared Rhade from the med deck not long after his arrival there, but advised him to rest until they arrived at Terazed. Sensing a conspiracy, he headed to his cabin briefly before going to the arboretum deck, finding Beka and Yuki under one of the larger trees. So involved with each other were they that they didn’t even notice his hastily stammered apologies as Yuki slid his hands up under Beka’s top. He backed out and roamed the decks aimlessly. After a couple hours, he wound up on the observation deck where he found Kasei sitting against one of the windows, lost in thought.
Swallowing, he took a few steps in and cleared his throat. “Kasei?”
“I would really rather be alone right now,” she replied softly, her gaze not turning from the view out the window.
“My apologies, but I think we need to talk.”
“About what?”
“Us.”
Her head turned a little. “I have nothing further to say on the subject, Rhade. Why can’t you just leave me be?”
Rhade’s eyes narrowed in concern. “What’s wrong with you? Before we left Nomaie, you were almost friendly, wanting to get away from your family and out back into the fight. Now, here we are, back on the Andromeda, heading to where the fight is and you clam up and become as close to a hermit as you can get on a warship. Your friends barely see you and I practically have to hit you over the head and drag you off to my room to spend any time with you.”
“What’s your point?”
“I’m worried about you. What happened?” When she made no reply, he ventured a guess. “It’s where we’re going, isn’t it? Terazed. My home world. Something about that bothers you.”
Her head turned to look back out the window. “It looks like you can figure it out for yourself.”
“So it does have something to do with that, then.”
“For being a ‘perfect’ being, you have the most remarkable lapses,” she replied, standing up, facing him. “Yes, it does. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that it has everything to do with it. I just got away from one family. Terazed is your home, the home of your parents, your siblings, your other assorted relatives, and the place where you lived with your dead wife and children. Yes, it bothers me to be going there. If it weren’t for the fact that the Magog are going there as well, I would be against this entirely.”
“And how do you think I felt, back on Nomaie?” Rhade countered. “Do you think it was easy for me meeting your family, having your sister hitting on me, meeting your fiancée? I could have easily stayed with your sister. She’s beautiful and she wanted me, but I chose to be with you.”
Kasei laughed bitterly. “Are you sure you chose wisely?”
“You publicly declared me to be yours. There’s the life debt on top of that. I plan to put myself in as much danger as possible to get that out of the way, incidentally. Kasei, I won’t bore you by repeating how I feel about you. I just wish that you would sort out how you felt about me.” He walked up behind her and gently placed his hands on her shoulders. “End my torment. Either accept me or reject me, but don’t leave me hanging like this. I can’t take it much longer.”
“Touching me isn’t going to speed that up.”
“You told me that you’ve become addicted to this. I need to touch you, to be with you. It hurts when you’re cold like this.” He ran his hands down her arms to take her hands in his. “About going to Terazed, don’t worry about the ghosts of my past. I’ve put all that behind me. What I felt for my dead wife is nothing compared to how I feel for you. A lot has changed since then. I don’t care if my family accepts you. I accept you. I don’t need their approval. I’m a grown man and I can make my own decisions.”
He kissed her neck. “Relax. Everything will be alright, I promise.”
Kasei broke away from him. “You can’t know that. It’s foolish to make a promise like that.”
He sighed. “What do I have to do to get you to believe me, to stay with me? You already have a double helix. I’ve made my intentions perfectly clear.” He walked up to her. “Come by my room later. I have something I’ve been meaning to give you for a while, but a lot of things have happened and I forgot about it.” He kissed her and left her alone on the obs deck.

While Rhade and Kasei were talking, Yuki was busily undressing Beka, not caring who saw them. The fact that this was a public place had occurred to both of them, but neither one cared overly much. In fact, the risk was a large turn on to them both. Contrary to what Rhade had thought, Yuki had heard him come in and heard his apologies. It had almost made him laugh, but doing so would have made Beka ask what was up and he would have had to tell her. There was no telling how she’d react to Rhade having seen her in such a compromised position, regardless of how this situation was turning on. He wasn’t prepared to risk spoiling the mood, so he kept it to himself and busied his mouth with kissing her breasts while he had her pinned against the tree.
Beka moaned and writhed as much as she could with Yuki’s hands pinning her hands above her head and his sweaty naked body pinning hers to the tree trunk. She was soaking wet; he could smell it, but he was prolonging things as much as he could, but it was becoming increasingly difficult to hold himself back. Beka managed to push him off long enough to turn her back to him, wriggling her hips suggestively. Yuki gave her a strange look.
“Well? You said you had a lover before me. Surely you know what to do here.”
“It’s not that, Beka. It’s just that…well, we don’t exactly have any sort of lube on hand,” he said, blushing.
“Is that all? Come over here,” she instructed. When he was close enough, she reached around behind and gently grabbed his manhood, guiding it to her back entrance rather than her ass hole.
Fully understanding now, he took over. It wasn’t easy to get in there, but he managed. It was unlike anything he’d ever done. Granted, pretty much everything he’d done with Beka was a new experience. It took Yuki a while to get into what he was doing, but before long he’d relaxed enough to satisfy both Beka and himself.
As they lay on the grass, exhausted, Beka rolled over to look at him, tracing a finger over his bare, smooth chest. “Took you a while,” she observed. “And here I thought that you would know what to do there.”
“Female anatomy is significantly different than male, Beka. Besides, the angle is different. It’s hard not to slip out. I enjoyed it though.”
She smiled wryly. “I got that. I’ll have those dents in my hips for days.”
Yuki twisted to look. When he came, he’d grabbed onto her, but hadn’t realized just how hard he’d grabbed. “Oh geez, Beka. I’m sorry.”
She cuffed him lightly on the head. “Don’t apologize, Yuki. Do you honestly think I mind?”
“Well, if you don’t mind…”
“No, I don’t, but I might get annoyed if you keep worrying about things like that.”
Yuki smiled, stroking her jaw line. “We can’t have you being annoyed, now can we?” Before they could get up to anything further, Dylan’s voice came over the intercom. “Beka? We’ll be at Terazed in an hour. Could you join us on the command deck?”
She sighed. “I’ll be right there Dylan,” she replied before kissing Yuki. “I guess we’ll just have to finish this later.”
“Assuming that we survive this Magog thing,” Yuki grumped, pulling his clothes on.
“Don’t talk like that,” Beka scolded. “I thought you senshi were good at this sort of thing.”
“We are, but it’s generally better to keep a level head about massive fights like this one. Overconfidence gets people killed. I prefer to remain slightly pessimistic. I get better results that way.”
Beka was silent until she finished pulling her clothes on. She pinned Yuki to the tree. He was stronger than she was, but it didn’t matter to her. She grabbed his shirt. “Come back alive and intact or I’ll kill you slowly and painfully,” she growled.
Yuki looked at her calmly. “I have a lot to live for: friends, family, and you. I swear, I will always come back to you.”
Beka released her hold on Yuki’s shirt. “That’s what I wanted to hear. I guess I’d better go see what Dylan wants me for.”
She bumped into a very unhappy looking Rhade on the way up. He was clearly agitated, but not saying anything. “Rhade?”
“What?” he snapped.
“Ok, maybe I won’t ask.”
Rhade shook his head. “I’ve just had enough of dealing with women for one day. I just can’t seem to figure them out.”
“Let me guess. Aries and Kasei.” At his startled look, she laughed. “Those are the only two on the ship we don’t really seem to be able to figure out. I can understand why you’ve been around Kasei, but Aries?” Beka waggled her eyebrows. “You’re not trying for Aries in case the Kasei thing doesn’t work out are you?”
“Of course not! Aries is cute, but she’s not my type and she’s too young.”
They walked onto the command deck. “And here I was thinking that you had a thing for enigmatic women.”
“Only the one,” Rhade clarified. “Dylan, what did you call us up here for?”
“We’re almost there. I thought it would be best to have you all here before we get there,” Dylan replied from the pilot’s chair.
“ETA is presently approximately thirty five minutes,” Rommie told them.
“You couldn’t have waited half an hour?” Rhade asked incredulously.
“What’s the matter Rhade?” Harper asked. “You have something better to do?”
“Yes, actually. Not that it concerns you at all.”
Harper looked taken aback by Rhade’s tone of voice. “Yeesh! Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.”
Trance looked over at him. “Be nice Harper. It’s been a long and hard journey for all of us.” She glanced at Rhade. “Harder on some than on others.”
The doors to the command deck opened and Tenshi and Yumeko joined them. Rhade looked at them as if he expected them to do something. Tenshi walked over to stand near Dylan and Yumeko just stood by the door. She met Rhade’s gaze. “If you are wondering where the other two are, we left them in the mess hall talking about something or other. We weren’t particularly inclined to interrupt whatever it was as it looked fairly involved.”
Rhade sighed and turned to stare at the screen, wondering what Okami and Kasei could possibly be discussing.
~~~~~~~~~~
In the mess hall, Okami sipped on a mug of some kind of hot tea she’d procured from Andromeda’s auto chef. It wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t the kind of tea she’d wanted. She looked over the rim of the mug at Kasei, who was sitting back in her chair with her arms crossed over her chest.
“None of it makes any sense,” Kasei said slowly. “This entire situation is beyond my comprehension. Ever since I left Nomaie the first time, things have been falling apart; starting with what those dammed Nietzscheans did to me.”
“What did they do to you anyways?” Okami asked, setting her mug down. “You still haven’t told anyone besides Yuki. Oh don’t look so surprised. We all know you’ve talked to him about it. He’s your twin, the other half of your soul; as if you could keep a secret like that from him.”
Kasei relaxed. “I’ve been healed of hat was done to me, but it’s still not pleasant to think about, let alone talk about.”
“This I understand, but you’re going to have to talk about it sooner or later. I’m surprised that Rhade hasn’t pried it out of you.”
Kasei shook her head. “He thought about it, but he seems to prefer that I tell him on my own.”
Okami looked at her incredulously. “All that talk of him being your love and fate and stuff and he still doesn’t know the whole story? You really are a piece of work Kasei.”
“Frankly, I don’t think he needs to know right now.”
“You know, it might back him off a little if he knew.”
“The last thing I want right now is to be talking to him. It’s bad enough that he somehow found me on the Obs deck. I have no intention of seeking him out any time soon.”
“In case you’ve forgotten, we’re heading for his home world. You’re not going to be able to avoid him. We should be there in a half hour or so. You know full well what that means.”
“Aside from being confronted with his family, his relatives, friends, neighbors, and past history you mean? Yes, Okami, I know. I’m not really looking forward to this.”
The silver haired Guardian sipped at her tea. “On an unrelated note, what do you think of this Aries girl?”
“I’m really not sure. She’s definitely a senshi. Tenshi confirmed that one. Her aura feels familiar, but I can’t place it.”
“Could she possibly be one of the senshi we encountered in previous lives?”
“I doubt it. The aura is almost like Yuki’s, but not quite.” Kasei shook her head. “I don’t know, but I have this sick feeling in my stomach that we’re going to be finding out fairly soon.”
The holographic Andromeda appeared beside their table, startling both women. “If it’s not too much trouble, Dylan would like both of you up on the command deck. We’ve reached Terazed.”
