Dean didn’t remember much of his little journey. He saw a few flashes of hallway, some shocked faces, there was a tingling sensation at some point, and that was it. Mostly he just let himself be dragged. He was healed sure, but still plenty weak after months- or was it years?- in captivity so he just stayed limp. Besides, he had no desire to make it any easier on his captors to carry him.
After what seemed a surprisingly short trip, he was tossed unceremoniously through a wide doorway and onto the soft carpet beyond. He didn’t even attempt to catch himself, falling to the floor and staying there as his tormentors left, speaking the strange language of the Seraphs that all demons seemed to know.
Dean took a moment to just lay on the ground and rest, enjoying the rare opportunity of privacy. Before too long, his survival instincts were yelling at him to move, to learn his surroundings before anyone came to look in on him. He slowly struggled to his feet, getting his first good look at the room he had been so rudely dumped in.

After being stuck in the rancid dungeon for so long, he thought he’d be glad for a change of scenery. But dear God this room was boring.
A white expanse of room lay before him that really didn’t have much in it. There was a white desk in the far corner next to two large balcony doors that lead to a white marble terrace. There was a fireplace of the same marble set in the adjacent wall in front of Dean, a small closed door on either side of it. A single plush, cream colored armchair sat before the hearth and… that was it. Other than the carpet which was… what a fucking shock, white! That was it. Two pieces of furniture and so much white that Dean was starting to get a headache.
He took a deep breath and made his way to the door on the left of the fireplace, praying it wouldn’t just open to more white walls.

If there was some deity up there, they were certainly perfecting the art of ignoring Dean Winchester. The bathroom the door opened on was huge, and white. Holy shit, what was with these Seraphim and fucking white!?
Dean sighed heavily, not really interested in exploring the bathroom, and made his way to the other door. If he didn’t find something with color in it soon, he swore he would go mad. Then again, maybe that was their plan? Switch out the physical torment for the mental torment of utter boredom. He honestly couldn’t say which would be worse.

The door swung open to reveal a bedroom and finally something other than that terrible lack of color met his eyes. The mono-chromatic carpet continued in the room, but the walls were all painted a deep blue that reminded Dean of the sky he hadn’t seen in what felt like an eternity. There was a bed in the middle of the wide floor that was covered in a midnight blue comforter and at least twenty sky blue pillows embroidered with intricate silver designs.


It was big enough to fit at least ten people with room to spare, thirteen if everyone got really comfy. The dark wood frame made the bed look even more massive with its sturdy headboard and four spiraling posts. They supported a shear blue canopy that mixed not just the sky and midnight, but every shade of blue under the sun.


What on Earth did a Seraph need with such a massive bed? Dean knew enough about them to know that they never slept, or if they did not for more than an hour at most. So what would they need… then again, maybe he really didn’t want to think about it.


In fact the presence of the obscenely large bed was making him more uncomfortable the more he looked at it. Dean all but fled the room, slamming the door shut behind him. So much for having some color to look at, in fact he was now determined to avoid that room at all costs. He still had no idea what that Seraph, Castiel he reminded himself, wanted with him but it couldn’t have been a coincidence that the fucking bedroom was the only spot with a splash of color!


He took a deep breath and moved to the balcony doors. It was the only place he felt comfortable going. The big glass doors revealed a gleaming, fucking white, marble balcony that stretched before him for at least five feet out, it could’ve been an entire living area.

He wouldn’t admit it but he felt tears in his eyes, not because of the boring ass terrace, but because there, stretching wonderfully over his head, was the clear open sky. The vast blue was there, right before his eyes and he almost couldn’t believe it. He stared at it for what felt like hours but was probably only about thirty minutes. He had missed the sky, and the wind, and the sun. Mostly the sun.


He closed his eyes and just basked in the warmth and light that he hadn’t thought he’d ever feel again. Taking in the warm glow, he allowed himself to feel a tiny glimmer of joy for the first time in who the hell knew how long.


He wanted to go running, jumping, swimming, anything to be out underneath the sun like he used to when he and Sammy were young. Well… maybe there was a way. He looked down at the railing running along the balcony, indicating that it came to an end and something as beneath.

Dean walked towards the edge, praying he wasn’t that far up. Maybe he could jump and just get the hell out of here; go back to safety and his family.


Of course, no deity was listening. He looked over the edge, expecting to be several stories off the ground at most as his relocation hadn’t taken that long. Instead he found himself with a bird’s eye view of nothing but clouds and empty space between him and the land far, far below. He looked up in shock to find himself looking at soaring spires of white and gold, gleaming in the late afternoon sunlight. All around the upper levels he could see winged figures soaring here and there, laughing in the face of gravity as they easily traveled through the air.


A floating city. He was in a goddamned floating fortress miles and miles from the ground, from safety, and from his family. Well, that was just peachy.


He looked around at the massive balcony that seemed to run along the wall of the rooms he was in. There wasn’t much to see, another over-stuffed chair and few potted plants. An angel kept potted plants. At this point, it barely surprised him. Plucking a small rock out of one of the plant bases, he turned and chucked it over the balcony, feeling a little better, a little.


That is until the rock came flying back at him from over the ledge. He had to duck in order for it to miss him and it went flying into the room behind him. The hell? He cautiously picked up the small stone, walking back to the railing of the terrace. Dean leaned over the edge, held the stone out, let go and watched it drop. The stone fell about two feet before hitting some kind of invisible barrier and being thrown back up over the rail.


Yeah sure, why not? Put up an invisible shield to keep your captives from jumping and maybe ending their torment. Where’s the fun in letting them get away with that? Dean sighed and threw himself into the cushy chair on the terrace.


He didn’t want to know any more about his new prison. What was the point?


He turned his face up toward the sun and closed his eyes, imagining that he was home, basking on the hood of his car after a good old hunt with his brother. He fell asleep like that, sprawled in the chair, dreaming of better days and hoping he wouldn’t wake to face his reality.
