Chapter 3
The cabinet of crewmen who usually manned the bridge sat in the briefing room. Mr. Spock and Captain Kirk sat at the end of the table as the head officers of the ship. As each crew men went over their reports, a few of the attendants of the meeting found themselves a bit uncomfortable. . Yanira sat quietly sat next to the wall in the background in silence just watching and listening. She was wearing a traditional Vulcan dress, and a sort of veil that seemed to hang down from the hood she wore to conceal her face somewhat in her attempt to be discreet and unnoticed but her mere presence was distracting.
“At our next port, we will see about getting the replicators replaced. I have to admit it’s hard to overlook the glitch when eggs turn up in my morning coffee.” He said looking to see if there was anyone left to report. “If there is nothing else to report or discussed, I think we can call it an evening.” The Captain said dismissing everyone. Each person picked up whatever things they brought with them and headed out to go back to their duties. Captain Kirk, and Mr. Spock lingered a moment. “Spock.” The Captain said stepping close to him and pulling him away from Yanira so they could talk in private, as much as possible. “Yes Captain?” He answered turning with Kirk. “You seem to have . . . a shadow with you today.” He said keeping his voice low. “Is there a reason for this? Or is Yanira simply tired of being locked up in your quarters.” He asked. “I am attempting to slowly introduce her back into social surroundings.” He explained. “I thought if she observed how I interact with humans on a daily basis it would help her to understand how she is to behave. That she does not need to react so harshly, and that no one is going to injure or molest her person in anyway. Secondly, I am hoping that not keeping her in our quarters at all times, she will also realize she is an individual, and not simply property.” Kirk wasn’t sure he understood, but there was a lot about Vulcan’s he didn’t understand. “Is this going to go on all the time?” He asked, “Because I think it may be a little crowded on the bridge at times, and if there is an alert . . .” “No, she shall return to my quarters before we adjourn to the bridge. Although I still interact with humans, there cannot be much value in her standing quietly on the bridge.” Spock answered. “Uh huh.” Kirk said not entirely sure how he felt about this new arrangement. “So you plan to have her with you whenever you are not on the bridge.” He said. “As often as is possible.” Spock answered. “Well, she’s your wife. You’ll have to do whatever you think is best I suppose.” Kirk said clasping his hands behind his back. “When we arrive at Vulcan, my mother will be there to take her to my father’s house. They have insisted that Yanira stay with them, and I agreed it would be the best course of action. My mother will teach her the things that she was not taught in the Colony. Such as how to act properly in the company of others, and any other social instruction she may require. My father is often at council, or away on as an ambassador unable to let his wife accompany him. My mother could use the company, and I believe that she enjoys the prospect of having a daughter-in-law . . . somewhat like her son.” He said, “As emotional as Yanira seems to have become, I believe my mother has the skills and knowledge needed to help Yanira control and understand them.” Kirk gave a nod, “It seems that both of you are interacting much better this past week. She seems to listen to you intently and follows your every word to the letter as if it were in the Starfleet manual.” “Yes.” Spock agreed, “We have managed to come to a mutually beneficial arrangement.” “Oh? What sort of agreement?” Kirk asked. Rather than answer, Spock turned and held out his hand to call for Yanira. Instantly she stood and walked to him, and they left the briefing room. Now it was Kirk’s turn to arch a brow.Things had been going quite well between Yanira and Spock. He arranged it so that she could work from his quarters to research information and learn whatever she could when she was not with him. It seemed unwise to send her to the computer labs any more after the last few incidents with the crew.
However, when she learned how close they were to Vulcan, and that she and Spock would be beaming down in just two days, her behavior and mood changed drastically. Instead of her strong individual pursuit for knowledge which benefited from her hunger and desire to acquire more information and learn all there was to learn, she returned to her old habits when she had first come aboard the Enterprise. Spock came back to his quarters when his shift was over, to find several candles lit, the computer off, the chair empty, and the room dark. The air felt thick, almost heavy when the door closed behind him. He followed the glow of candlelight to find Yanira, on her knees, in deep meditation, starring at the altar. As he approached her, it was painfully obvious that her mind was not there. She hadn’t even heard him come in. She was somewhere else, far away from the starship and far from him. It was cause for concern on Spock’s side, as she seemed to be crawling back into her molded shell they had pounded her into at the Colony. And all the work that had gone into bringing her out of that shell and out of that life was quickly melting away. Spock kneeled down beside her on one knee. “Yanira.” He said attempting to pull her out of her deep mediation. She didn’t respond to him nor did she respond to his voice. Reaching out he took her by the arm and said her name again, “Yanira.” A bit more loudly this time as he shook her a little. Her eyes closed, and her head hung down, before they opened and remained downcast, strictly focused on the floor. Spock looked at her for a moment, almost able to read her thoughts. Their minds had been joined so many times, and since they had begun lying together in the human manner, their minds melded even deeper than before, perhaps far deeper than either one had ever gone into another’s mind or thought possible. It was a profoundly personal and a singularly significant to each of them. He kept his hand wrapped around her arm but loosened his grip. “I have told you repeatedly you shall not see the Colony where you were raised again.” He reassured her. “There is no need for such anxiety.” She was silent for a moment before she turned her head towards him but kept her eyes turned down. “They will want a full report and evaluation of me.” She began, “They will want to know if I preformed my duties, if I followed the rules, and of any mistakes that may have been made. Both of us know that there were numerous unforgivable transgressions that cannot be ignored.” She said quickly, her breath actually becoming deeper and more erratic. “They could want to replace me for someone better trained and more suitable for a family such as yours.” She said a knot in her throat. “Impossible.” Spock said, “You are no longer one of their colonists. You are no longer under contract, or in their care. You are a married woman and my lawful wife. They no longer have any say in the matter there is nothing they can do.” “How do you know.” She whispered before at last turning her eyes towards his. “How do you know they will not find a way to take me back.” Her voice was shuttered slightly with her fear and anxiety at the thought of being taken away never being allowed to see him again. “These are irrational and illogical fears, Yanira. You must control your emotions and not let them control you.” He said seriously, “There is no logical reason they should try to take you back much less make any attempt to contact you. Your new position and name as part of my family has been made clear. My father is well respected, and his name carries much more weight than most realize. As my wife, his name was given to me at my birth, and now I have given that name to you.” He was trying to make it as simple as possible and as clear as could be trying to make her understand “You are safe, Yanira.” He did his best to reassure her each time he spoke. “No harm will come to you.” “And when you are gone?” She said. “When I am gone . . . you will live in my parents’ home. My mother insisted upon this, and my father has given his consent.” He said. “Everything has been arranged. And I can assure you that they will keep you safe until my return.” Yanira was silent, having heard his words, but it was somewhat obvious she didn’t completely trust them. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Spock so much as she didn’t trust the situation. Once he was gone, how did she know his parents would keep from sending her back? Knowing who and what she was. Spock’s parents who knew that she went to their son under the false story that his family had sent her to him as a gift. Would they not resent her and be angry at her for this? “There is an officer’s dinner tonight.” Spock said deciding to change the subject for the time being to take her mind from it, “It would please me if you would accompany me this evening.” He was inviting her, not wanting to simply demand or order her to go. Something that would be simple enough to do under the circumstances. “I would be honored.” She said simply. Spock gave a nod before standing and offering her his hand to help her to her feet from the floor.Around the table sat the officers of the enterprise all in dress uniforms, Captain Kirk, Scotty, Doctor McCoy, Spock, Sulu and Yanira. Yanira was absolutely beautiful, her hair was much longer than a traditional Vulcan’s ladies, and it certainly was not the same dark color. With the softness of her wheat colored hair, obviously soft with a slight wave to it, and her stunningly beautiful eyes, her human features certainly seemed to add to her natural beauty. Yanira’s eyes were painted flawlessly, and the dress she wore was modest but very complimentary to her form. Yanira sat quietly next to Spock who was in his dress uniform, eating when he began to eat, and stopping when he stopped weather she herself was finished or not. She didn’t do it clumsily or obviously; she was very graceful in her movements. No one would notice what she was doing, except Spock.
“Even though I have seen you on occasion, Mrs. Spock . . . I have to say this would be our first formal introduction.” Captain Kirk said filling her glass of wine and handing it to her. “It is an absolute pleasure.” “Thank you Captain.” She answered. “You have been very generous since I have come aboard the Enterprise.” “I’ve seen you as well, but not at your best.” Bones said with a smile. “And I am grateful for your kindness, Doctor.” She said with a soft smile. “When I return home to Vulcan tomorrow, I will miss your company and guidance.” “Mr. Spock, will you be staying on Vulcan with your new bride?” Captain Kirk asked. “Yes Captain, I will be taking a short leave, at least a week.” He answered. “Yanira is to live with my family in my parents’ home when I return to my duties on the Enterprise. The rest of our Vulcan marriage rituals, ceremonies, and rites must be performed. I have already contacted the official’s of our home world, and preparations have been made.” “You mean you aren’t married until the Vulcan’s sanction it on your home world?” Scotty asked. “Both Yanira and myself have ancestry in two worlds, Mr. Scott. Our human marriage is binding and has been completed. However, our marriage will not be recognized, legally, on our home world as citizens of Vulcan.” He answered. “Once we have been married in a traditional Vulcan wedding, and the ceremony officiated over by a council member, she will have all my land, name, titles and properties on Vulcan.” “It’s kind of strange though, isn’t it Mr. Spock?” Scotty said, “I’ve never heard of the Vulcan’s sending any woman out into space intended to be a bride. I thought it was traditional for the groom to go to her?” Kirk quickly stepped in, “Yes but, how many Vulcan’s are such high ranking officers in Star Fleet. They knew on his home world it would have been most difficult for him to return, as you can see we are only returning now. It’s been several months.” “Yanira,” Bones said, “I know that this might be a tender subject for you and your new husband . . . but as a Vulcan who looks like a human . . . would you not want to go to earth?” He asked. “It might be a more relaxed atmosphere there.” Yanira’s eyes turned towards Bones. It wasn’t as though she had not considered it as soon as she began learning of humans and earth; it had been an unbiased study of humans and earth that is by federation standards. “Yanira has no family of her own Dr. McCoy. Her place is on Vulcan, with my family.” He answered for her. Although, he could almost feel the thought patterns that he had invoked in her mind. “It is better that she stay with my mother on Vulcan.” His mother was more compassionate than any other person he knew, and it seemed to be what Yanira needed most right now. Interaction with a human, who knew of Vulcan’s and their ways and also had the burden of emotions that needed to be controlled in social situations. The men talked and laughed as they continued their meal. Spock wasn’t involved in the current conversation, and he could feel how weary Yanira was. The nervousness she felt about being around others had taken its toll. “Gentlemen, I am afraid that we must say goodnight for the evening.” He indicated. “It’s been a long day for my wife, and must retire.” All the men stood up when Yanira did, and she bowed slightly to thank them for their hospitality. Then she followed Spock out of the room. All the men looked at each other having been a bit uncomfortable themselves. “She is a beauty.” Scotty commented. “There’s no denying that. Apparently she even managed to turn a Vulcan head or two. Those who weren’t so horrified and appalled by her human heritage.” Captain Kirk agreed. “Spock is being very caviler about this whole thing.” Bones said under his breath. “A 16 year old wife . . . that’s not even done on Earth anymore. Not to mention the way he acts and treats her.” The men retook their seats. “Like he’s a whole different person, someone we’ve never even met before.” “As he has repeated several times, their ways are not our ways Bones.” Kirk answered. “And she is his wife, and as we’ve all witnessed she does need an amount of discipline and guidance.” Kirk took his glass and had a drink, “You can’t judge them on how they handle this situation it’s all a very difficult and confusing mess that neither of them thought they were going to be in.” “But they are really married, Captain?” Sulu asked. “Indeed they are, Mr. Sulu. Once she is returned to Vulcan, and Spock has returned from his shore leave. Things will get back to normal and everything will be as it should be . . . for the most part.”Yanira readied herself for bed before sitting down on Spock’s bed waiting for him to retire. The Vulcan came in a short while later, removing his shirt and under shirt, before sitting down next to her. Yanira turned and started to reach for him placing her hands on his face starting to lean forward to kiss him. However, Spock caught her wrists, and gently pulled them away from his face.
Yanira cocked her head not sure she understood, as she was about to begin her duties. He was quiet for a moment, before speaking to her. “Yanira. . .” He began. “Yes?” She said looking into his eyes. He didn’t respond to her question and he continued to firmly hold her in place causing her confusion. “Are you angry with me?” She asked curiously, not understanding why he was stopping her. “No.” He answered, “You honored me this evening. How you presented yourself to my colleges and friends. You far exceeded my expectations.” He reassured her. Spock quieted for a moment looking into her eyes, mesmerized by the way they shimmered. “You are beautiful, Yanira.” “Thank you.” She said bowing her head a little. After a moment Spock regained his thoughts and went back to what he wanted to speak about “However, I felt your thoughts.” Spock said, “At dinner. When Doctor McCoy mentioned earth.” Now her eyes turned downcast, instantly. “Why?” He asked. “We have mind melded so often, it is side affect of our minds becoming one.” She said in a clumsy attempt at dodging his question. “And perhaps, my curse has transferred a little to you.” “Yanira.” He said knowing she wasn’t ignorant to his question, but it was her attempt at evasion of the subject. She was silent, pulling her hands away from his and placing them in her lap. “Have you never wondered,” She paused before starting again, “Before you left for Star Fleet had you never wondered of earth, and all the humans that live there?” She asked. “No.” He answered almost instantly. “My mother was human; I did not feel the urge to pursue further knowledge. She gave me all that was needed of their race and their world. It was also part of our training when I was a child.” She stayed still, pausing another moment. “I never had the advantages that you seemed to have,” She wasn’t trying to be accusing and she did not envy him, but trying to explain herself. “My lessons were different from yours. It was not thought that other worlds were necessary, we were never meant to leave the colony as anything other than a companion and consort, and return when we were not needed. Knowledge of other worlds then Vulcan was a waste of useful time to further our training in more important areas of education.” Yanira explained. “The others never thought of it as I did. But when they looked into their mirrors they saw a Vulcan looking back at them. My mirror did not hold the same image. Instead it was a human face looking back at me. A face that I knew nothing of, that I didn’t see anywhere else. All I knew was that this face brought misery, and ridicule for my entire existence.” She breathed slowly, “I wish to know who that stranger is who stares back at me.” “There is no sin in your curiosity about your origins.” He began, “In truth it is quite logical to question about your heritage and in normal circumstances you would have had parents and family to explain it to you.” “But when you have no family it is a sin to question such things.” She said looking at him, “I asked once and I was punished severely.” Spock arched a brow, “I’m beginning to believe that a severe inspection of the Celass colony is long overdue.” This thought had been in his mind for sometime the more he learned of the practices that were taught, and the sorts of ‘lessons’ and instruction that Yanira received there. “You will not find anything. It is well known what the colony is created for, what training is used and the purpose for it. As I am, I required more attention and discipline to quell my natural and genetic traits. I understand why they had to be harsher with me.” She assured him. Spock was silent for a few moments, “Humans are an illogical and emotional race by nature. They rely on feelings instead of logic as we do.” He paused for another moment, before speaking again, “It is not a disease, to be part human. There is no cure for it.” His eyes turned towards hers, “I know this, Yanira I have tried.” She tilted her head as she looked at him hearing his words. “Even more curiosity spans then about your choosing to take me for a wife.” She said honestly confused. “Each time you look at me is it not a reminder of your own heritage?” It was something that she had apparently been thinking about for some time. “You can hide your human half if you wish it, your human blood is not visible.” She shook her head, “I cannot hide mine." He sighed, and rested his hands on her shoulders. Who knew why in her case he preferred to have her there with him. Perhaps it was the need to protect her, to help her, because perhaps he was the only one who knew what she was going through. Carefully, he cupped her face in his hand, and smoothed her hair back from her face. He kissed her gently, before pulling her harder against him and kissed her deeper.Yanira sat quietly, waiting in silence with her eyes squarely on the floor. She was dressed in the dress she had come in, with a few modest alterations and wrapped in her cloak, with the hood pulled down over her face. If one didn’t know she was alive, they would think she was a stone statue.
Every since Spock had left his quarters, she remained here waiting for him to call. She closed her eyes taking a breath, trying not to think too much about what she was to face today. Already they were in Vulcan orbit, and the surface had been notified of their two passengers who would be beaming down. In a matter of minutes, she would be returning home to Vulcan to a new life, new surroundings, and people who she had never met that could condemn her immediately for everything that had happened up to this point. Finally the intercom beeped and she was requested to come to the transporter room where they were waiting for her to beam her down to the planet surface. Gathering all of her courage she stood and took a breath before leaving Spock’s quarters. When she arrived in the transporter room, Spock was already waiting for her and the co-ordinance was locked in. She looked around for a moment seeing that they were the only ones in the room besides the technical engineer running the transporter controls. Spock once again was reading her thoughts just by looking at her. He walked over and offered her his hand, “You will see both the Captain and Doctor McCoy again. They will be attending the ceremonies on the planet surface.” He reassured her. She gave an obedient nod, before she took his hand and he led her to the transporter platform, then he let go. “Energize.” He ordered and the operator beamed them to the surface.Yanira was quiet, as she lay next to Spock, but her eyes were wide open watching him sleep. It seemed as though she wanted to say something, but wouldn’t dare. Instead, she just lay next to him, watching him, waiting.
“It is very difficult to sleep when one is being stared at.” Spock said his eyes still closed, “Especially one who lies so close.” Yanira bit her lip and frowned looking away. He opened his eyes and looked into her eyes. “Your mind betrays you, Yanira.” She nodded as she sat up. However when she moved to stand and leave him so he could rest, he caught her hand and pulled her back, so she would return. She lay down next to him and rested her head against his chest as he wrapped his arm around her. “You have dreaded this day from the time we left the ship. We have spoken of this.” He said reminding her. “I know and my concern is not because” She stopped a moment, “Your mother, is wonderful. She is very kind and understanding. Your father is much more tolerant of me then any others I have ever met who are pure of blood.” “Yet there is still something troubling you.” Spock said waiting to hear what it was that was bothering her. “The shame I feel has grown it weighs heavy on my heart.” She said softly hardly able to say the words that admitted to her feelings that she was supposed to be attempting to control. “There is no need for you to feel ashamed, Yanira. We are now wed in both worlds; both of our heritages are satisfied. You are in every way my wife.” He said in a definite voice. “My heritage is not a noble like yours.” She said, “Many have said it and believe it. The term used, I think was ‘half-breed whore’.” Spock looked down at her; His jaw clinching at the sound of the vulgar word. “I was raised as one, meant for nothing else and even knowing this you have still taken me into your home.” “Never use those words again.” He commanded. Something he had not wanted to do with her, but it was more than offensive to his ears then anything he’d ever heard before. “Where did you learn them?” “One of the ambassadors at the gathering after the final marriage ceremony three nights ago.” She answered, “Said that I was a half-breed whore . . . not worthy to be taken into such a house. That there were far better choices that had been available to become your consort.” Spock sighed, “Yanira. . . I am certain if you had waited, you would have heard me referred to as much worse.” This wasn’t the first time he had heard of this, the person the ambassador had been speaking with was Spock’s father. But the specific words were not repeated to Spock until now. “And you would have heard my father correcting the offense before asking them to leave.” She nodded obediently. “My mother has lived most of her life on Vulcan and has had to endure much hatred and criticism. She will help you.” Yanira nodded again and they both fell silent, before her words broke it. “When will you return to Vulcan?” “I do not know.” He answered as honestly as he could. “I will take the shore leave I’m given and return when it is possible to do so. You need not worry, and you will be able to contact me, if you have need of me.” She nodded again, but it was obvious she was still dreading the moment that he would leave. Not wanting to discuss the subject of his departure or even entertain the thought of it this moment any more then Yanira did, Spock found himself once again mesmerized by the beauty of her lovely eyes. Running his fingers along the line of her jaw, he tilted her chin up and kissed her lips tenderly. She eagerly returned his affections, after a few moments of gentle kisses, they became deeper as the passion they had come to felt for one another began to spark and Spock wrapped his arms around her in a strong embrace and turned them so he could lay over her in his bed.It had been months since the Enterprise left Vulcan, and Spock had been thinking about the young woman he had left behind. Obviously, there had been no emergencies otherwise he would have been contacted long before now. Still he was curious to find out how she was doing since he had left.
When his shift was over, he went back to his quarters and put in a call to Vulcan. It took a few moments for communications to connect since they were quite far away from the planet. When he was finally connected, it was his mother who answered him. “Spock . . .” She said with a smile, “You are looking well, how are you?” “Hello Mother. I am well.” He answered, “You and my father?” He asked in turn. “We are well also.” She said. “And Yanira?” He asked. Amanda smiled knowing that perhaps that was the reason for his phone call, “It has been 10 months . . . nearly a full year since you left, Spock. She has wondered why you have neither called nor returned.” “Time seems to go much faster on a Star Ship mother. I am very rarely idle.” He said honestly. “How is she?” “She is well. It was sometime after you left for her to become comfortable with us. It was as though she was a cat and someone was holding her over a pool of water. Yet once she relaxed and settled in, she was much better.” She explained, “I think you would be proud of her, as she has been almost desperate to learn everything she can and better herself. Even Serek has taken a hand with her training when he is home.” Spock nodded. He thought she would do well, although he was somewhat surprised to find that his father had begun to aid in her training when he left. He and his father were not exactly on friendly terms. They hadn’t been for over 19 years, since he left Vulcan to join Star Fleet. “Is she available? May I speak with her?” He asked. His mother shook her head a little disappointed that she didn’t have better news for him, knowing that Yanira would have wanted to speak with Spock as well, “No. She will not return until the end of the week. Serek was able to enroll her in a training course for the Vulcan youth that are of her age. She spends almost all of her time studying, if not practicing etiquette and manners. She has been a welcome addition to our family, Spock. I never could have hoped for better company.” She said with a smile He nodded, knowing that Yanira would be a good companion for his mother. “Would it be possible, for you to have her contact me when she returns?” He inquired. “Of course, Spock. She will be disappointed that she missed you.” Spock arched a brow at this as he had hoped she had been able to regain some control over her emotions since his departure. Amanda smiled again, “Her emotions are always hidden in front of our Vulcan guests, and even Serek. No doubt she will hide them in front of you when you return.” She assured him. Spock sighed a little, “Spock . . . she is half human, and for her it is her stronger side. You cannot expect that it will be completely erased during her entire life time. The point is that she wishes to please you and make you proud of her. I believe that she will do anything to honor both you and Serek.” “She is strong, and I have faith in her.” Spock answered. “Good. I will tell her as soon as she returns that you wish to speak with her. Be safe.” She said giving him the Vulcan fair well. He returned it. “Live long, and prosper mother.” He said before turning off the screen.Spock and Yanira lay together making love quite vigorously for hours on end. One of the advantages to Vulcan heritage was the stamina that they naturally possessed. They both fell asleep hours after they had begun wrapped in each other’s arms.
Neither of them stirred again until the morning, and strangely it was Yanira who slept and Spock who awoke first. Perhaps for the first time in their entire association she had done that. He tilted his head and looked at her for several moments. Was it possible she had become lovelier since he had gone? He had regretted that it had been a full year before he could return. Another advantage of Vulcan’s was the common belief and courtesy that anything that was between a husband and his bride, stayed between the two completely and was not subject for conversation or interference from outside sources. So if a small amount of emotion seemed to slip out, who was ever to know? He touched her hair, ever so gently so as not to disturb her and swept it out of her face tucking it behind her ear. She looked so peaceful with her arm wrapped around him and her head resting contently on his chest. Her skin was white like alabaster, and her lips the color of deep crimson roses, amazing considering she had green blood like he did. He couldn’t resist, and gently touched them with his forefinger tracing the line. It seemed he had finally awoken her with the strong thoughts of his intentions, as her lips kissed his finger before her eyes opened and looked up towards him with a soft smile. “Why did you not wake me?” She said in a gentle voice. “You seemed as though you needed rest. I did not wish to disturb you.” He said honestly. “You do not disturb me.” She replied. “I apologize, Yanira. . . that I have not returned much sooner than this.” “You are the first officer aboard a Star Ship, in Star Fleet. I understand that you are very important to your ship and your crew. That is where your life is and your home, it is no longer here on Vulcan.” She said softly. Spock looked at her for a moment, arching a brow. Their mental link had not been as strong as it was when he left her when he first arrived. But they had managed to re-strengthen it during the course of the night. He arched a brow, “You have something you wish to ask me. Your excitement at the prospect betrays you.” He could see it very clearly when he looked into her eyes. She smiled a little and sat up, looking at him. “Your father and mother are going on an ambassadorial mission in a few weeks. They will need to stay for at least a full month and they say with your permission, I could accompany them, to observe and assist when needed.” “Where is it this mission will take them?” He asked patiently. She smiled and bit her lip a little trying to hold back the excitement she felt. “Earth. They shall be going to earth, the humans planet.” She said her eyes lighting up. Spock arched his brow at her words and the obvious way her heart seemed to be yearning for this trip. He also noticed the number of times she had tended to smile since his return even though her emotions were much better under control. Yet it had been quite some time since they had seen each other and it was obvious how much Yanira had missed him. “I will need some time to meditate on my answer.” He said honestly. Yanira smiled softly and gave a nod. She was a little disappointed that she would have to wait for his answer, but she would wait nonetheless.Serek and Amanda sat on the opposite side of the table across Spock and Yanira. It was incredibly quiet, which wasn’t unexpected. Spock and Serek did not speak almost at all, and Yanira was absolutely silent and her face expressionless. She had been training in Vulcan discipline, and no one could tell how emotional she could get at times anymore except Spock when they were absolutely alone together and sometimes Amanda who tended to encourage it. Serek had been more than satisfied with her studies and endeavors.
Amanda had a small smile on her lips as well. As she knew the true face of her daughter-in-law which was something she enjoyed immensely when the men were not present. Finally, she could stand the silence no longer and decided to be the first one to speak. “Has Yanira told you of our planned travel to Earth?” Amanda asked Spock. “Yes.” Spock answered, “I have not yet decided the answer I will give.” He said not wanting to go into further detail about it right at this moment and knowing this would keep this line of conversation from continuing. “I have received several recent reports from your teachers, Yanira.” Serek said, “They have said you are their most promising and dedicated student.” Spock arched a brow at his father speaking to Yanira directly, and still almost ignoring his existence completely. “I endeavor to honor you and Spock.” She said bowing her head slightly. “She has learned at least a dozen languages when since you left, Spock. She’s amazingly attentive, and learns very quickly.” Amanda added hoping that time they would be able to continue a conversation of any sort. “like a sponge when it comes to anything she can find to learn.” “I expected nothing less.” Spock answered looking at Yanira for a moment, before turning his attention back to his parents. “She has managed to impress upon me her potential from the first day of our acquaintance.” “Yanira. . . have you yet told him?” Serek asked. This was getting almost ridiculous, as Serek had never spoken to Spock, his own son, in such a way. “No.” She answered, “I did not know if I was permitted.” She said honestly. Serek was very pleased with her manners, “You are.” He answered. Yet instead of letting her tell him, he decided to. His attention for once turned to his son, “Your wife has endeavored to earn the mark of our family. I have given my consent, but she has retained desire for you to be here for the ceremony.” Spock nodded, “As a part of our family, it would be the logical step to take.” He replied. It was an incredible honor that Serek would approve of their match so much that he would allow her to take their mark. “Yanira also wishes that you choose the appointed time and day of the ceremony.” Serek said. Spock arched a brow finding this most odd. It was her desires, her wishes that Spock be so involved in the ceremony. He got the distinct impression that Serek had been impatient in waiting for his return to accept Yanira completely into their family line. “Then perhaps as soon as possible would be best.” He said. “Tomorrow?” He asked his parents wanting to know if it was convenient for them. Serek nodded, and of course Amanda agreed. His mother had been anxious for this as well knowing how hard Yanira had worked for this. “I will make arrangements immediately.” Amanda said excitedly as she looked at Yanira. She had a feeling that Yanira was smiling on the inside, but she refused to let it show on the outside out of respect for Spock and Serek. Spock picked up his wine glass and took a drink, and Yanira did the same. He’d never imagined that she would be accepted so well . . . particularly by his own father. It wasn’t as though he was not pleased, he was very much. It was just not what he had expected.Spock stood on the terrace under the black star filled sky with his hands clasped behind his back, looking out over the landscape the lands and property that his family owned.
“You look troubled Spock.” He heard his mother’s voice say. Amanda walked out onto the terrace and stood beside him looking out at the view as well. “Are you concerned about the ceremony this morning?” She asked. “No. I was pleased to see that Yanira was properly prepared.” He said. “She took the mark without moving nor making a sound.” Amanda smiled, “But I do not think it was your wife who’s invading your thoughts at this moment.” She said knowingly. “I do not need the Vulcan telepathic ability to know it is your father, and his overseeing the ceremony.” Spock was silent for a few moments, not willing to confirm or deny her suspicions just yet. His mother continued, “He oversaw your marking ceremony as well, Spock. It’s just that you were far too young to remember since it was just a few weeks after you were born.” She explained. “Yanira is just like a daughter to him, he sees her as one of his children.” “At least, he now has one child that is not a disappointment to him.” He said clasping his hands behind his back again. “Yanira is a very attentive young lady, and her ambitions are selfless. She wishes only to please and honor our family. Something that must have been repeated over a hundred times by now.” “Your father is pleased with you as well, Spock. More then you could ever know and more than he will ever admit to. He is very pleased with the mate you have chosen for yourself. She’s the sort of young woman every parent hopes that their son will find to be their companion in life.” His mother said. “What of Yanira?” He asked, “What has she to say of the arrangement?” Amanda looked at him for a moment, wondering if it was possible he hadn’t asked his wife this question yet. “She was hesitant at first. She puts everything she has into her work and studies. Yet I think she’s finally become comfortable with the role of wife. As I did when I married your father and came to Vulcan. I know love is a human emotion, but I can assure you that she feels it for you. Very deeply.” Amanda said. “She always wishes for your company and yearns for your approval with everything she does.” “I know.” He answered. “I wish that she would understand that I approve of her. I would not have taken her as my wife, if I did not.” He said slightly frustrated that she still did not understand that. Amanda reached out putting her hand on his arm. “You must be patient with her Spock. Yanira is still very young, and very self-conscious. You know better than anyone what sort of difficulties she’s had to overcome, how hard her life has been. But she is quite loyal and devoted to you. In more ways than I could possibly convey to you.” “Serek will want to know why he does not yet have grandchildren.” Spock said looking up towards the sky. “Why she has not given birth since I left Vulcan before.” He crossed his arms, thinking out loud with a sigh not wanting to speak of it at all. “I do not wish to go into detail about her misfortune when she was taken off the Enterprise. She prefers not to speak of it as though it did not occur, as do I.” He said simply. “Spock . . .” his mother started, “You don’t live here with us. You live out there . . . among the stars.” Amanda said looking towards the beautiful black tapestry of night. “You have your duties to your Star ship . . . Serek does not have such unreasonable expectations of you to . . . have children from across the universe.” He sighed, “I know mother.” Really, it was something that was bothering him. Since her incident, and what happened before when she was pregnant, he didn’t want to rush her into something that might hinder her progress. It took a lot to change ones course in life, but she was managing to find her own way down a new path, she was strong enough to. “Patience is one of the virtues of our people.” He said. “I wish her to find a solid footing in her new position in life, before expanding our family.” He admitted. Amanda nodded understandingly, “She is still young, and it is perhaps not time yet for children.” He was quiet for another moment, before he spoke once more, “How old is she now?” He asked. She was 16 when she came aboard the ship. “18 within the month.” She said with a smile finding it odd that Spock would ask such a question and not know the answer down to the minute and second, “On earth she would be considered an adult. We have different standards and measurements in the human world as you well know.” “You know how hungry she is for knowledge of the humans and Earth.” He said still struggling with the decision of her request. “Oh yes. She asks me endless questions even now, wanting to know all there is. Serek was the one who thought that her accompanying us to Earth would be a wonderful gift for her.” Amanda said putting her hands on the rail of the balcony. Amanda looked at her son a moment “I get the feeling, that you would like to be the one to take to her on her first trip to Earth, Spock .” There were times when he wondered if his mother was a telepath herself as well as she read him as she always seemed to know what he was thinking . . . and feeling. “It would not be fair to Yanira to wait for such a indeterminate yet undoubtedly long time for me to accompany her, when a perfect opportunity is presented for her now.” Spock said, “I would not have enough time to take her and show her all she wishes to see and know, perhaps for some years. With Serek being ambassador to Earth . . . it would be logical to allow her to go.” He looked at his mother, “And you would be a much better guide then I.” “Spock, she would be disappointed if you didn’t want her to go. But she would not hold it against you. You must know that.” Amanda pointed out. “I know that you and Serek will keep her safe.” Spock said, “So I have decided that she has my consent to accompany you and Serek.” His mother cocked her head looking at him for a moment before nodding. She rubbed his shoulder a bit looking back out towards the stars.“REALLY!” Yanira said excitedly, “Oh Thank you, Thank You, Thank You!” She said wrapping her arms around Spock’s neck and kissing him between each thank you. Her eyes were bright and sparkling, and it seemed that her body was bouncing slightly in anxiousness to go.
Spock reached up and unwrapped her arms from his neck, holding her by the wrists so that perhaps she could calm down a little. “Please, regain some control over yourself at once Yanira.” He said quickly more uncomfortable with the huge display of excitement then angry with her. Yet her entire body seemed to be alive with electricity, he knew that she would be pleased with the news but this was almost unreal. She nodded a little and kissed his hands before forcing herself to sit still continuing to smile. “Yes,” he said clearing his throat, “however I do have some conditions.” He said seriously. Yanira nodded quickly anxious to know what they were, “Of course, anything, anything!” She said her eyes still bright and a huge smile on her face. Spock just looked at her for a second hardly able to understand where all this overflowing emotion was pouring from. The reports he had received from his mother was that she had become rather stoic in her expressions and regained full control of herself. Serek certainly wouldn’t approve of such behavior, so where was all of this coming from? “You must adhere to everything my mother and father tell you. Do not disobey them in even the smallest capacity.” She nodded as he said this. It was something she was ready to do to begin with, yet he wanted to make sure she understood this. “And . . . I would like you to keep a daily journal on your travel.” “A Journal?” She said curiously, “like the one that you and Captain Kirk keep on the enterprise?” She said. “Similar, yes.” He indicated. “Each day I want you to record something about what you learn, what you see, and even . . . if necessary, how you feel. This is an important adventure for you. You should not leave out any detail.” Spock instructed. “I promise.” She said with a smile nodding. “I will include everything.” She couldn’t help herself and she wrapped her arms around him holding him tight. Spock hesitated a moment with a sigh before finally he relented a bit and wrapped his arms around her in turn. She could feel the overflowing joy that she felt, emanating from her very being. He hoped that she would not be disappointed.Spock sat in his room, listening to the daily transmission that he received from his young Yanira. She had continued her journal even after they had left earth, and he still received them daily. It was actually a very pleasant arrangement that they had managed to come up with. As the year he spent with almost no contact with her had distracted him somewhat from his duties. It was always just at the back of his mind, wondering how she was and if everything was alright. Now, it didn’t need to be that way as every day he would know everything she did, what she learned, how she was doing, and even given updates on his parents he would otherwise not receive.
However, at this moment he was replaying the transmissions he had received in the last week over and over again. Something sounded different and not quite right with the pattern of her usual communications. It almost sounded as if she was trying to carefully avoid mentioning something, doing her best to hide information. Captain Kirk had come in just a short while earlier and Mr. Spock asked him to listen with him. Both men listened carefully the last 5 messages from Vulcan, and when the last one was finished they looked at each other. “These messages have changed from all the others. They are half the length, less detailed and there is nervousness in her voice when speaking that has never been there before.” “I’ll admit, there is certainly a change. But what would she be trying to hide? From what you have said and what I just heard, she tells you everything down to what she’s had to eat that day. She doesn’t hide anything from you at all.” Kirk admitted. “Very true Captain. Or at least it has been true until now.” He said replacing the disks that held her transmissions. Whenever he received a message from home he immediately recorded them to disks and had quite the collection at this time. “Well Mr. Spock, all I can suggest is that you make a call home. Talk to her, or your mother to find out the reason for the change. But you’ll have to wait two days before we’ll be in broadcast range. This far out all you would get was static and buzzes.” The Captain advised. “I think that would be the wisest course of action.” Spock said with a nod. “It is obviously something that has been on her mind for a full week if not longer. Yet she still has not told me of it. Perhaps if she could speak with me directly then she will be more inclined not to avoid her main concerns.”McCoy and Kirk stood next to Spock who had just finished his call home. He wished for them to be there, not knowing what it was she was keeping secret. Just as predicted the truth came out rather quickly once the connection was made. It was his mother who had told him, since Yanira had been unable to.
There were several moments of dead silence once the call was disconnected and the screen went dark, before someone dared to break it, “Congratulations?” Bones said. Finding it slightly odd that no one seemed happy at such news. “Thank You Doctor.” Spock said in response. Kirk and Bones glanced at each other. It’s not they expected a huge burst of excitement, but the look on Spock’s face was frozen in place. Something was definitely on his mind. “Spock . . . you can be glad at least that she’s had time since her ordeal, her body has no doubt completely healed itself by now. All that junk is long out of her system, and the medical profession on Vulcan is one of the best in the universe. There is no better place for her to be.” Bones attempted to find all the good things about the situation. “Yes, Doctor. However it is going to be sometime before I can return to Vulcan. It is also unlikely I will be there when my child arrives.” He said solemnly. “Well that’s simple enough, we can put in the request now, and as soon as the call comes that she has gone into labor . . . we will make our best time to return to Vulcan.” Kirk said. “That seems somewhat impractical, Captain.” Spock said. “Not knowing if this pregnancy will be like the first or different in the sense that she was not abducted and treated with chemicals for weeks on end, we do not know exactly what time the request should be put in for. “That’s easy enough, the doctors on Vulcan will monitor everything and they’ll know before too long if the baby is growing faster than it should or at a normal rate. Once someone gives you a health report of their findings, the senior officers can save up their shore leave days and no one can say anything about where we decide to take it. ” Bones said. “I could not ask you to sacrifice your shore leave privileges.” Spock said. “As humans you are in more need of them then I.” “Then take it as a shower gift.” Captain Kirk said, “A gift for the baby and Yanira who will no doubt want you to be there on the day it arrives.” Spock was silent for a moment before giving a nod.Spock listened to the transmission he had received that day, over and over again. Not sure why he felt as though he had to replay it so many times, but here he was, once again, pressing the button that would play it over:
“My Husband, Spock, I apologize for not telling you about our fortune earlier. I was not sure how you would respond to such news. However, your mother and father seem to be happy about the prospect of grandchildren. Your mother is mostly the one who displays joy, your father is as happy as a Vulcan man could be expected to be. Yet it has shown through, in his swiftness in helping me to enroll our child into the best training programs of our world. It seems as though in a few days of the news, our child’s future has been well scheduled through college with the best schools and the best teachers. The doctors all say that both I and the child are remarkably healthy, and considering my medical history, they intend to analyze me each week. To monitor the progress of the baby’s growth which as of now is of a normal and healthy rate, and insure our safety. I have heard the nurses talking, and even though I am not completely fluent in their speech yet, I could understand enough of what they said to know that you will have a son. Already they are able to tell this, and I am still amazed by it. I am almost glad you are not here to see me this way. I realize vanity is yet another human trait, but I notice also, that many Vulcan’s are afflicted with it and it seems I am no exception. I am twice the size I was when you left, I am told that I shall grow much bigger before the child arrives. It is a strange feeling to be the guardian of a new and innocent life. The respect that I receive when I am seen is so strong it overwhelms me. Being a mother and life giver seems to outweigh my natural human flaws and appearance. I hope you are well, and are continuing to stay safe. Your mother and father send their greetings, and wish you well also. Anxiously Awaiting Your Return,Spock turned off the message and leaned back in his chair. He felt as though he wanted to see her and the change her body was going through as it carried their child. Yet, she was not about to appear to him on a screen, and he would never ask such a thing of her.
For the first time in a very long time, he actually longed to be home. He wished that he could return at the next possible moment, yet an opportunity to do so was not to appear any time soon. He had no choice but to be content with the transmissions he received, and exercise a great deal of patienceSpock had not shared the news of the fact he was going to have a son with anyone. Kirk and Bones were the only ones who even knew that he was going to be a father, but they did not know it was to be a boy. Once again his family was always in the back of his mind now, it somehow seemed wrong to simply impregnate her and leave her behind on Vulcan to face everything without him. It seemed incredibly unfair and heartless. Even though these thoughts and feelings may have existed in his mind, no one would know them or see them. He simply would never allow it.
Of course, Captain Kirk and Bones had noticed the change in his behavior being closest to him, and the way he seemed to be constantly having his mind on other things when there wasn’t something of urgency going on aboard the ship. His mind would wonder to thoughts about the young wife who would soon be the mother of his child. It was a discipline he would have to teach himself, since the fact was, she was safe at home on his planet, with his mother and father who would see that she was well taken care of. There was no need for him to feel guilt or concern. “Any news on your recent good fortune?” He heard the Captain say causing him to look up from his scanner. Mr. Spock hadn’t even heard Kirk approach. It was a rare occurrence. “Only that her doctors continue to monitor both her and the child’s health closely. They are both in perfect health and they see no reason for this status to change.” Spock reported simply. Captain Kirk looked at him a moment, not saying anything. Spock could feel his eyes on him and sighed looking up from the scanner again. “Was there something else, Captain?” He asked without even looking at him. “Oh . . . no of course not.” He said, “Just making sure everything was alright, at home and such.” Spock arched a brow knowing that there was more to it then that. The Captain relented realizing that there was no use in beating around the bush. “Alright . . . there is a pool going between the officers, about the baby.” Kirk answered. Spock looked at him, “Pool, Captain?” He asked. “Yes . . . a sort of . . . uh. Guess to see who is right. About the baby’s arrival date, time, sex . . . that sort of thing.” He explained. Spock seemed a bit amazed, “You are gambling, on the birth of my child.” He said cutting right to the chase. “Well, when you put it like that . . . it doesn’t sound like as much fun.” He said. “I have always been amazed by the human capacity to find a way to wager on everything in existence.” He said. Kirk felt like he had really put his foot in it, and started to turn and walk away. However, Spock looked back into his scanner before speaking again. “August, the 23rd, and male.” He said simply. Kirk looked back at him a moment before smiling, and going back to his chair.“Bridge to Mr. Spock, Bridge to Mr. Spock. Mr. Spock?” The voice came bursting through the darkness. Having just worked almost a 46 hour shift, the temptation to roll over and go back to sleep was there, but wouldn’t be entertained for even a moment. He was very loyal to his sense of duty.
He rolled over and pressed the switch, “Spock here.” He answered. “Mr. Spock, there is an emergency communication coming in from Vulcan. They demand to speak with you immediately.” She answered. “Patch it to my quarters, please.” He replied. “Yes sir, connecting now.” Spock got out of bed and walked over to his screen, sitting down before it before opening the channel. It was his father on the screen, which he found instantly worrisome “Serek.” He said. “Spock . . . I have requested that I be allowed to notify you before the orders come through from Star Fleet. A tragedy has befallen us, as your wife has disappeared.” He stated. “Disappeared?” He asked. “Yes, she was apparently taken against her will from our home on Vulcan. Evidence suggests that she put up a severe struggle when she was abducted. We have very little information, but what little we have has been sent to Star Fleet. I am now transmitting it directly to you.” Serek said. “You spoke of orders coming from Star Fleet?” He asked. “I have requested that the Enterprise be assigned to investigating and retrieving Yanira.” He said seriously. Spock simply nodded. “Understood.” The Vulcan replied. “I trust, you have been keeping track of the days and realize how close she is to giving birth, Spock.” Serek warned. Spock nodded again arching a brow. He had kept track, much closer than anyone would imagine. “Bring her home Spock, before it is too late.” Then the picture faded. How could this be? She was in the safest place he could arrange for her to be in. On Vulcan in his family’s home where she was well guarded and no one had access to her. Who would dare to abduct her from an Ambassadors home? Moments later, Captain Kirk called for Spock over the intercom to report to him on the bridge.Spock sat on the bridge as Kirk and McCoy took a landing party down to the planet’s surface. This particular planet was nearly out of federation territory. It was a brand new explored part of space, and there were still a number of mysteries that accompanied it. The system itself was still being charted by survey convoys and mapping crews.
They had tracked these criminals all the way across space from Vulcan. It was an unbelievable stretch of occurrences that brought them here, but there seemed to be no other place for them to run. The only good fortune that the Enterprise found was that the abductors either did not realize they were being pursued, or simply did not care. It had taken four months to get to this point, but Spock was ordered to remain on board none the less. The landing party managed to make their way into what looked like a massive underground laboratory the size of four where houses. The ceilings metal, domed and were so high, it was hard to imagine ever being able to get up there to touch it much less construct it. It wasn’t long before one of the security men called out, “Captain!” He shouted. Kirk and Bones quickly responded and ran through the maze of equipment and what looked like water chambers or pods. When they came to the security officer they saw the look of absolute horror in his eyes. Once Bones and Kirk turned their attention to what the security guard had been looking at, they understood his reaction. One of the large liquid chambers held a naked female body. It was Yanira. Stripped down to nothing, and simply floating there in the liquid on display like some specimen in a science museum. Her body was absolutely not pregnant, but at this point she had been long overdue to give birth. “Bones.” Kirk said unable to turn his eyes away. The first thought that crossed everyone’s mind was that she was dead. McCoy instantly turned on his equipment and quickly took readings running his scanner over the tube like structure, “She’s alive, Jim.” He said, “She’s in statuses, completely unaware of anything. Her brainwaves are normal for a Vulcan, it’s almost as though she’s in a deep sleep. But her mind is still quite active.” “Can you tell if she is alright? If there is anything severely wrong with her?” The Captain asked. “Not here, Jim. I don’t have the equipment to run a full analysis. We’ll have to take her back onboard the ship.” Kirk nodded giving him the order to do so. “Transporter room, have the medical team assemble immediately. Emergency status. Two to beam up as soon as you’re ready.” He said into his communicator. “Everyone else, keep searching. This woman was almost ready to give birth when she was abducted. Her child might still be being held somewhere in this place.” The rest of the team nodded and split up to keep looking.“It seems as though we have been here before, Doctor.” Mr. Spock said as he stood by the table where McCoy was taking readings and scanning the young woman that lay covered with a medical blanket.
“Not quite, Spock. She was never so completely unconscious when I cared for her before.” He took his pen making a note on his chart, “She is healthy, even though it seems that she did indeed give birth at least three months ago. All her vitals are perfect, all her systems working normally, no damage, she’s fine physically.” He said, “We won’t know how alright she is until she regains consciousness.” “Captain Kirk has said that they still have found no trace of the baby. I suspect that perhaps this one was taken as the first one was.” He said. McCoy stopped what he was doing, turned off his scanner and looked up at Spock, “How can you be so cold?” He asked, “This is your child we are speaking of, your wife. Are you really such a heartless creature you feel nothing for the loss that the two of you share?” Bones said narrowing his eyes. “Doctor, making a display of despair and sorrow will not help Yanira, nor bring back our children. What is important, is seeing that she is properly cared for.” He said keeping the same expressionless look on his face. “You green blooded, pointed eared . . . this girl could very well be devastated beyond help when she wakes up and learns of this if she’s not already aware of it. Where is she going to find the sort of comfort she needs if she can’t turn to you!” Bones shouted. “There is a reason, on Vulcan, that the matters between a man and a wife are neither discussed nor interfered with. I would suggest that you employ such discursion in this instance. Yanira has been raised on Vulcan and is half Vulcan. She and I have the same genetic structure and will be able to deal with this on our own, without interference.” Spock said directly. The doctor could hardly stand this. “You really are a heartless bastard, Spock.” “Notify me when she wakes.” Spock said before turning and leaving the sickbay.Doctor McCoy stood outside the window to his office, just looking through the glass starring at Yanira who sat quietly beside his desk. It wasn’t long before Kirk and Spock arrived in the sick bay as requested by the Doctor.
“It looks like she’s awake. That’s good news.” Captain Kirk said, “How is she?” He asked. “Physically, she’s fine.” He said never taking his eyes from the window. “Mentally . . . she’s changed a bit.” It seemed as though he was in shock and awe, only to be left in thought trying to figure out the problem. “How so?” Kirk asked. “Well, she’s . . . umm.” He started, yet when he saw Spock turn and start to go into the office, he quickly reached out and grabbed him by the arm stopping him, “Don’t go in there Spock, not yet.” He indicated. “I am certain that she will want to see me, Doctor.” He said arching a brow. “As you have said, she has been through an ordeal, and a familiar face will no doubt be good for her.” McCoy started to say something but, Kirk reached out and put his hand on the doctor’s shoulder giving a nod to let the man go in. “You don’t understand, she really isn’t the same as she was before she was abduct . . . .” Bones said before the Captain managed to get his hand off of Spock’s. Kirk held McCoy back who lunged forward in an attempt to stop him, and the Captain couldn’t help but think he was being ridiculous. Instantly he turned and went into the office, leaving Bones and Kirk on the outside of the window. “Yanira.” He said standing next to the doorway, clasping his hands behind his back. A moment passed before her eyes turned towards him, looking him over from head to toe. “I am pleased to find you unharmed.” She didn’t say anything, or make a move. The look in her eyes was certainly a different one then he had ever seen before. He’d not been expecting it. “Serek and his wife are anxious for you to return to them on Vulcan.” He stated giving her an opportunity to speak once more or perhaps even an emotional outburst. At this point, anything would be welcomed. Spock was beginning to feel uncomfortable with her lack of acknowledgement. Even though her eyes were on him and she was listening to his words, she didn’t respond and it almost seemed as if she didn’t recognize him. Arching his brow, he decided to walk closer to her and kneeled down on one knee beside her so he would be looking at her instead of down on her. “I apologize that our search took so long to find you.” When she didn’t answer yet again, Spock decided perhaps there was as simpler way. Carefully, and slowly he started to reach up and touch her face. However, before his fingertips could touch her cheek, her hand shot up and grasped his wrist extremely tight. “Try to touch me again and you will keep your arms in a box on display rather than wear them on your person half-breed.” She said throwing his hand away from her. Needless to say Spock was completely caught off guard, and Bones and Kirk stood outside the window, their jaws dropping at what they had just witnessed. “What did she just say!?” Captain Kirk whispered quietly to doctor McCoy in amazement. “Vulcan’s are terrifying when enraged; you’ve seen Mr. Spock lose his temper before. What do you think a female Vulcan would do?” Bones said also keeping his voice down. “I’d rather he didn’t upset her anymore, not all of us heal as quickly as Vulcan’s.” “Yanira. . . I have never known you to be disrespectful.” Spock warned her. “Why do you insist on calling me such a name?” She said finally cutting him off not wanting to hear another word from his mouth. “That is not my name; refrain from referring to me with it again. It offends me as you offend me by daring to speak to me.” She said looking away from him. Now Spock was becoming confused as well as irritated as he looked at her, “Yanira is your given name.” He stated. “How can ones name be offensive to their ears? “My name is Headra. If you insist on addressing me, then I demand you do so properly.” She said her back straight and her eyes not even remotely turning downward. She had acquired extreme pride and a huge ego to match. This was not the same young woman he’d left on Vulcan. Spock was quiet for a moment, finding the irritation growing into anger like he’d never felt before. She was not only being disrespectful and irrational, but illogical as well. “And I suppose that you shall continue to deny knowing of me.” He said arching a brow. “I doubt very much I would know a creature such as you.” She said crossing her arms, “I would hope that I would have better taste, then to associate with a lower being.” Kirk and Bones decided it was time to jump in; otherwise a domestic dispute the likes of which had never been seen on a Star Ship might break out. The hurried into the door and stood close to Spock. “Doctor,” The young woman began, “Would you kindly remove this creature, before he attempts to paw at me again?” She asked. Bones sighed, “She doesn’t seem to remember any of us Spock. I’ve already attempted to speak to her; she has no recall of the time she spent aboard this ship.” The Doctor said trying to explain what he’d already found out. Spock just looked at her in silence, feeling a sense of both anger, and devastation. How could she speak to him in such a way? They were the only two of their kind in the universe . . . how could she look down on him? Either way, he stood clasping his hands behind his back. “Captain, I should like to request that . . . “Headra” be placed into my custody.” He said not even looking at her. Kirk cleared his throat not quite sure what to do and glanced at Bones, “Well . . . I suppose that would be up to you. If you think you can control her.” The Captain said looking back at his first in command. The young woman stood up, her back as straight as could be and her head held high. She looked quite outraged at the suggestion. “How could you possibly entertain the idea of giving me over to that . . . thing.” She said. Spock looked at her square in the eye and said in a very definite tone, “Because as your husband, I am your guardian and it is within my right to demand it.” He said in a low voice. Her eyes went wide as she started to say something else but Spock paid her no mind and continued to talk to Bones, “Although I think a daily evaluation would be best until we can find a way to restore her memory.”While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
