MORNING – PRESENT DAY - THE WHITMAN HOUSE –
The alarm went off as it was five in the morning getting up Alexa would turn off the alarm and get showered and dressed then walked back to each of her sisters' rooms shaking them awake.
"Hey, wake up, we got to go to school". She said a bit tired herself.
As she left one of the sisters groaned getting up walking to the kitchen, she began to get the pan for eggs and yelled to her sisters
"Ariana, Ally! Wake up! Come on, we are going to be late and I have to drive, get your asses up". She sighed softly and turned down the heat putting the lid over the pan.
She then went back to their rooms and said with an angry tone "come on, guys wake up!" she shook them now.
"God, Alexa okay jeez". Ariana said giving up and woke up getting out of bed.
Alexa rolled her eyes sighing ignoring her sister's attitude going back to the kitchen to get the plates and set them up for them turning off the stove and had everything ready.
Alex had come to see everything set "you guys have enough? For lunch?"
Alexa replied, "yeah, dad I got this covered".
By the time everyone was done it was time to leave as they went to the car and she drove to school with Ariana and Ally thinking in his mind Alex went straight back to bed.
MID-MORNING 10-11 am – THE BARRICKS -
Flint saw Kyle come and folded his arms "glad you could spare some time".
"Intervals, I got thirty seconds". Kyle replied
"You said your patient—the one with the handprint still alive". Flint asked.
"Very much so". Kyle replied. "Is it possible that aliens aren't the enemy of humanity?"
As they were talking Jasmine his little sister was at the base, she was hiding in the shadows glaring towards Flint listening in on what they are talking about. What Flint stupidly did not know is she hid a drone with a microphone for her to hear from her end.
Flint spoke ignoring what Kyle just said "Now you charged in here demanding information about Rosa Parker's death. I provided you that information. Your turn now".
Back to Jasmine's hiding place she gasped hearing where it came from "you little..." she muttered "it was fake... I knew it, what are you up to Flint?" she asked herself trying to sneak closer using stuff already there to hide behind as she put the recording on, using her watch to get the audio in case Flint uses excuses she has evidence.
Kyle asked just curious "can't one of your other three brothers be your alien hunting buddy? You have three of them".
Flint replied reminded he even had brothers who one is worthless "this isn't for the faint of heart".
Kyle replied, "Are you calling Alex faint of heart?"
Scoffed hearing that she whispered "Ass..."
Kyle [CONTD] "This entire town threw him a parade when he came home from Iraq".
Flint replied "Kyle, you can participate in Project Shepard because it's your legacy or you can choose to participate because you wisely fear what the United States government can do to you and your quiet, small-town life, not to mention your quiet small-town friends. Your country eagerly awaits your decision".
Kyle turned and said, "I am not going to tell you where I saw the handprint".
Flint turned to face Kyle from afar "that's okay, that's not what I want from you anyway. I need access to your father's research material. You wanted to know why I did not bring my brothers into this. It's because I don't need a solider". He began to walk calling out "I need a Valenti".
Hiding further as Flint walked by, she called the drone back with a button from her watch, grabbed it, and ran out unseen to get this back to warn her.
EVENING – VETERANS FUNDRAISER –
Mira came with Alex holding a surprise for Michael seeing he is beginning to leave a smile showed
Mira asked, "Leaving so soon?"
Michael turned leaning on his truck "Seen it before. I hate how it ends".
Yeah, Mira saw this coming and began talking "Yeah, not happening, I'll tell you what, I'll split this sixer with you... if you let me watch from here". She began to opening the tailgate sitting and grins knowing he cannot say no to booze.
Sighing as she won again, he grabbed the sixer and sat on one side as Alex sat on the other.
NIGHT – VETERANS FUNDRAISER –
A starry night happened at the fundraiser, Jesse walked and accidentally bumped into a kid playing with his fake gun
"Oh, careful, son". He told him
The young child held up his gun and it made a noise as though it shot him
Faking his death, he played along pretending to die "Oh, you got me, you got me".
Alex and Mira seeing that she thought how cute it was "aww, heartwarming that's a first I've seen you do that Chief".
He shrugged "well, with my boys grown up, it does help".
"Oh, yeah?" she asked and grinned "then I'd run because somebody else is about to attack sir". She played along seeing Gina with one now.
"Gotcha!" the youngest said.
"Missed actually, now start running before the tickle monster comes". Jesse replied.
She ran off behind a car and three other girls had the guns too, it was four against one now, Alexa, Ariana, and Ally were all hiding waiting for the enemy to come like a real battle at war.
"Nice try". Alexa grinned holding hers.
"We got you now". Ariana also said.
Flint came and shook his head "pathetic" he muttered about his dad chasing the girls while they play war as he turned to his younger brother "Maybe you ought to call it a night, huh? Use the evening to educate yourself on how to properly represent your country".
That pissed off Mira as she began walking towards him, except Alex grabbed her arm speaking to him "Do I embarrass you, brother?
Flint chuckled and walked to his side to whisper in his ear "You are a decorated purple heart soldier with three deployments under his belt. Mira is arrested once a week for gambling and bar fighting. Seems to be the only one you're embarrassing is yourself, brother".
As the fundraiser began to end, she walked to see Michael unable to ignore what she saw which was a side hustle he did and on the worst night that is offensive to the Veterans who protect them, and unable to see how he could do this to Chief Master Sargent and Alex who risked their damn lives after four years to of service to make their country better.
With Alex beside her, she spoke up as he was just pulling back up the tailgate "Hey."
Michael not even thinking first of her feelings and what he just did "You want to go for a ride?"
Mira was serious with her uniform and honor badge "No, Guerin. I am not here for your fun, not this time, because I cannot ignore what I saw tonight. Your side hustle on the one night that you could at least give one second to care about, but no... you have to go back to your little antics every time I ask you to do at least one thing for me". She was not playing this game tonight with him.
Throwing the keys, he replied walking towards her as she stepped back not playing "Yeah. Occasionally, I pawn a spool of copper wire from the junkyard for a little extra cash".
She scoffs as he is seriously thinking it is their little game.
Michael [CONTD] "Who cares?"
Alex saw this coming "Michael... it's not a game I'd shut up". He tried to help quietly saying to himself, wishing he was listening to her seriously.
Mira only tensed up further and raised her voice just a little "I do! I am a soldier, an honorable Jr. Captain for the air force. A pilot. I cannot be with a troublemaker. Or someone who doesn't stop acting like one".
"All my life, I was at the mercy of bullies. I am just trying to survive it. Guess you're still the girl just looking for any excuse to walk away, huh?"
Mira replied her tone went quiet "Maybe. And you're still so good at giving them to me". She then walked away not wanting to see him until he learns to grow up and stop acting the way he did back in nineteen ninety-nine because she is not that girl no more, she grew up learning the rules.
NEXT DAY – FLASHBACK –
It was a perfect sunny day in Mira's high school, she had just gotten off for the day walking with Alex not noticing her mom and dad waiting as usual.
"Only three more shifts at the Crash Down and then freedom! From that to go to UNM". She pumped her fist up excited for the freedom
"Why such a hurry?" he asked, "what about the gas money".
That killed her mood and told him as it is "You're a joy kill. "
"Hey, you're the one with the attachment on me and you love me so win for me". Alex said overconfident.
Max looked up with Eliza and noticed "Hey, Mira".
Mira ignoring her mom and smiled at her dad "Hey, dad. What are you reading?"
He showed her "Oh, just..."
While they spoke, Alex saw Kyle coming.
He groaned and said mostly to himself "I'll take "high school T.A clichés" for $500 Mr. Trebek".
Kyle sneakily grabbed her from behind causing her to startle
Mira exclaimed not expecting that "Oh, my God. Kyle. Hi".
Kyle told her "I got into UNM".
She asked surprised "You got off the wait-list?"
He nodded responding "Yeah I'm going to be a T.A there" –
"That's amazing".
Kyle was getting dragged by his T.A buddies not giving Mira even the time of day "Yeah. Yes. Go, Wolverines!"
She watched them leave wondering what was playfully in her mind as they just took him away.
"Hey! So, you just going to take him away?!" she asked his friends.
He called out "I'll be back! See ya at the crash down".
Yes, that was the only year her life was without anything, everyone here as it should have been she then saw Alex's guitar sitting there grinning she took it and went to go meet Michael at his truck what he did not see will not kill him or I should say... almost.
EVENING – MICHAEL'S TRUCK – FLASHBACK STILL –
Back at the school, Alex had gone back for his guitar except he did not see it from where he put it, he looked around everywhere until suddenly it clicked.
"Mira..." he muttered.
He walked to go find her knowing she is with Michael the other trouble maker of Roswell and snatched the guitar back from her hands surprising the two troublemakers.
"What, Mira? You cannot just steal instruments from me. This is mine".
Mira replied, "it was out of tune, so... Michael wanted to fix it, you're welcome".
"Really? That is your answer? You know how to drive me crazy as always". Alex said annoyed with her and sighed toning down a bit seeing he did go a little mean "You're kinda lucky, you know. Things at my house suck. I wish my brother would disappear at least you have great parents". He began to walk off but stopped midway making this kind of an invitation "There's this toolshed out behind my house. It is warm and I go there when things get bad. So.". he left leaving her to think about it while he went to go wait.
NIGHT – PROM – FLASHBACK HOURS LATER –
It was a night more so, prom night for Mira as she followed the boy's Kyle and Alex as he stormed off with Kyle talking to him. She tried to rush with her dress on her as she headed to stop the boys since this fight was over her.
Kyle followed Alex behind "Where the hell you going, Whitman? Huh?" he laughed "What are you so afraid of?"
Alex swiftly turned around looking towards Kyle now "Say it again, this time so Mira can hear you". He was angry and hurt
Kyle taunted Alex as if he hadn't learned when Mira was nineteen "Oh, I don't see what the big deal is, Alex. We just have different tastes. I like tacos, and, well, you like... hot dogs".
Alex got in his face telling him "That is not what you said".
Kyle as well got in his face asking in a threatening way "What did I say?"
Mira shouted having to scold him like a child he is being "Kyle!"
Kyle turned to face her then cleared his throat turning back to Alex "You know, I just think you're blowing this whole thing out of proportion, Whitman.
Alex replied getting back at him. "So, what, you don't want Mira to hear what you called me? You are gonna be one guy with your friends, and another with her? You are a coward. You always have been. And you are no better for her, I am! I have loved her since forever I have taken care of her when she cried, when she was lonely, a brother, a friend, a protector, I was always there for her and always will be I know her then all of you she likes combined!" he began shouting the words said "And you know what Valenti? Whenever she needs me, I am there always and forever. Where have you been?! She needs me!" he yelled pushing him
Just hearing those words set him off and not well either as he punched Alex right in the face in retaliation from being pushed as Mira watched her Alex was getting hurt emotionally and now physically.
Mira once again yelled as the boys began to fight "Kyle!"
She could not stand it and got in the middle pushing herself in and used both her arms to separate them "Kyle, Alex knock it off!" Mira snapped and looked at the boys from different sides. Quietly she said whilst turning to Alex to cup his cheek as he allowed it "You, okay?"
"Now that you're here". Alex panted from the fight as he looked down at her abit, he had some tears.
"Aww how cute..." Kyle taunted held back by his T.A friends.
Alex has had enough as he just decided to leave walking out of the prom in tears wiping them away as he walked, Mira followed him hearing Kyle.
"Alex, baby". She called out and heard Kyle
Kyle trying to get Mira's attention "Mira, wait. – "As he walked closer abit she turned angry holding a finger up cutting him off "-- Don't follow me. Alex is right. You need to grow up. Can't you see he is hurt enough?!" she stormed out to go comfort, Alex.
NIGHT – SAME DAY – ALEX'S SHED –
Mira was just doing some drawing on her own enjoying relaxing time to keep her spare time as she heard creaking fear caught up with her as she got up and began cleaning stuff.
Alex poked his head and told her "Mira, relax. It's just me".
Mira stammered replying "I was just, uh, hang-hanging out".
Alex nodded coming in holding a black guitar case "Yeah, yes. No, it is fine. It is good that you have been staying here. It is cold at night. Uh, hey, I-I brought you this. It is, um... it is my brother's. I do not know. I thought maybe you'd use it".
She looked at it and liked it "why?"
Alex chuckled and smiled replying "People don't always have an agenda. They can just care for a person for no reason sometimes".
Mira laughed abit smiling back replying "Alright, I'll go with that, well... it's the only thing that makes me feel quiet. Playing music". She grabbed the guitar.
Alex asked curiously "Quiet?"
Mira looked at Alex as he sat by her side "Uh... Well, like Michael, I have all this chaos going on inside me all the time, and... all I want to do is get away from myself. But then I play, and my, uh... my entropy changes. Everything goes quiet".
She looked at Alex in his beautiful brown eyes, everything she could ever ask in a guy she found, he was kind, sweet, loving and so much more than what others see or he sees in himself he had such aura, such calmness about him that called to her saying 'this is my harbor, trust him he will always and forever love you 'til the end, protect you, love you, won't ever leave you for anything.' And not those who just go for what they want just a calm serenity like the waves of a calm ocean or the water in the river flowing ever so gently as though he knows how to handle her than anyone else that is the kind of guy Mira sees in Alex, it was then she leaned in but could tell that if so, Flint would just simply come and barge in at any moment so she moved away and Alex understood and smiled loving her play the guitar as she did the acoustic to 'Sound the Bugle' from Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
NEXT DAY – UFO EMPORIUM TICKET BOOTH –
Alex worked at the ticket booth waiting for someone to get one as Mira walked by smiling standing there to talk to him.
Mira called him by his pet name "Hey, baby, I see you are bored..."
Alex replied through the glass "Uh, yeah, sadly". He smiled lighting up seeing her
Mira smiled making it an invitation for private time with him "So, uhh want to take a break and go somewhere...private, maybe?" she smirked knowing he will catch on as in maybe a little make out for a bit.
She smiled and began to walk back door where the space part is as Alex put the sign saying I have been abducted be back in five, as he too walked to the space gallery knowing where she wants to be with him waiting for her Whitman to arrive.
