Summary: After a brutal attack by the Magog on a planet belonging to the restored Commonwealth, Dylan Hunt decides to get rid of the Magog threat once and for all. Trance has a plan.
Episode 30: Revelations
After her talk with Trance, Aries headed back to the room she’d been assigned. As soon as the door closed, she sank to the ground, leaning her back against it. “It’s happened. Now let’s see if it worked. Are you there?”
Always, the voice in the back of her mind whispered. How are things going?
“Kasei has officially taken him as her mate and husband.”
That’s wonderful news!
“Has anything changed?”
The voice was silent for a moment. Not that I can tell, but there is still much left to do in the past, Aries. It may be that their relationship wasn’t the trigger to this after all.
“If not that, then what?” Aries cried. “I know father and I weren’t on the best of terms, but I can’t take this anymore.”
You’re the one best suited to this mission, which is why you were sent. You have more self control than I. “Not by much. I’m almost tempted to change places. Trance would understand, she knows you.”
But would the others? the voice challenged. I know we look similar, but they’re bound to notice the differences. Aries sighed. “True, that.” She leaned her head back. “I just hope that whatever happened to cause these problems is resolved soon. I can’t stay here much longer. It’s too hard.”
When you left, you said you were positive you could handle it. “Oh please! You try being surrounded by people who are well-known to you and not be able to talk to them as you once did. Rhade, Kasei, Yuki, Beka, Rommie, the Guardians and even Harper and Dylan.” She slammed her fist into the floor causing the deck beneath her to vibrate slightly. “I can feel myself slipping.”
The voice signed. You only have to hold out a little longer. I’ll be there soon. I know, I know. I said I would keep an eye on things from here, but it seems to me that you need me more than the people here do. Besides, if this excursion into the past is successful, it doesn’t matter if I’m here or there. Likewise if it fails.
“I look forward to seeing you again.”
Me, too.
Aries got up off the floor and went to lie down on her bed, contemplating her next move, rubbing her arms absentmindedly.
When the conversation in Aries’s room ended, Rommie headed straight to Dylan. Ever since she’d encountered Aries talking to herself in the corridor, the ship’s avatar had kept an eye on the young girl. There was something odd about her, something that warranted a closer watch. She knew something about what was going on, something that might improve their chances of beating the Magog. She rang the door chime on Dylan’s door. He invited her in. He wasn’t alone. Sitting across a Go board from him was Tenshi. She looked surprised to see Rommie.
“Captain, I have something I have to tell you,” she said formally.
“Perhaps I should leave,” Tenshi said, standing.
“This concerns you as well, Tenshi,” Rommie told her. “Captain, it’s about Aries,” she said before telling him everything she’d learned. “I don’t know who she’s talking to, but I can’t detect any communication devices on her or in her quarters.” Dylan looked at her. “Rommie, the implications of this are very serious.”
“It’s possible that there’s no device being used, but that the other end of the conversation is being help telepathically,” Tenshi said. “I’d have to test her to be sure, but if that’s the case, then Aries is only speaking aloud because she can’t respond in kind.” Seeing the look on their faces, she explained, “I’ve seen this before. Telepathy is a very common thing where I’m from. Kasei and Yuki are telepathic with each other as all twins are. I doubt they’ve used it much lately, though.”
“I think we should all have a talk with Aries,” Dylan said. “I think Rommie is right, she knows something and we need to know what that is.”
The holographic projection of Andromeda called Aries up to the Observation Deck where she was confronted by the entire command crew of the Andromeda Ascendant, the four princesses and Yuki. “What’s this all about?” she asked, seeing the serious looks on all but Trance’s face. “What’s going on?”“You’ve been in communication with someone,” Dylan said, getting to the point. “We want to know who that is and what’s going on. You know something, possibly something critical to the defeat of the Magog.”
Aries took a step backwards. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Oh please,” Rommie drawled. “I over heard you in your quarters this morning. Tell me, who were you talking to? What does the relationship between Kasei and Rhade have to do with anything? How do you know us and from where?”
“Not where, Rommie,” Trance interrupted. “When.” Everyone looked at her. “When?” asked Dylan.
“Aries is from the same future as me, Dylan. I can guess as to whom she was talking to and that person is trustworthy. As for knowing something to help us fight the Magog, she doesn’t know much more than I do.”
Rhade studied Aries carefully. She kept sending panicked glances in his direction. “If this is the case, then why didn’t you say something before this?” he asked her.
“I figured that it would be best if you didn’t know where, or rather when, I was from. If you knew, there was a high chance that you’d start asking me questions about that time period, questions that I’d want to answer but wouldn’t be able to. I just felt that it would make things less complicated. Please, I beg of you. Don’t ask me what I know. I don’t want to have to refuse to answer or worse: lie about what I know. I’ll help you fight the Magog, but that’s all I can do right now.”
Rhade shook his head. “I have one question for you, then, before I let this drop. What does my relationship with Kasei have to do with anything?”
Aries turned away from him. “Your relationship has a very deep effect on my parents. You see, in the time line I’m from, things didn’t go so well with you two and it caused a lot of stress on other people.”
“Your parents.”
“Yes. Because of the conflicts between you and Kasei and her refusal to accept you, my parents didn’t get together for a long time. There are some back home who believe that because of this, their relationship wasn’t as solid as it should have been and the crisis we’ve been going through is worse as a result. Others think that their relationship is too new and this crisis is causing a rift. In either case, mother is in a coma and father is useless in the fight. All he does it sit at her side all day, barely eating. If she dies, we think he’ll die of a broken heart.”
“And this timeline is different?” Kasei asked.
Aries nodded, still not looking at either one. “I don’t know why, though. In the history I know, at this point in time you were still refusing him. It took another year before you let him touch you and another six months after that before you officially claimed him as yours. I can’t say more than that, but maybe this new turn of events will make things better.”
Rhade walked over and wrapped his arms around her. “No child should have to be without her parents. I hope things get better for them soon.”
Aries tensed, breaking free of his embrace. “I’d appreciate it if you didn’t do that again. Don’t ask why, but respect my wishes. Please?” He looked confused, but nodded.
“I want to know who you’ve been in communication with,” Dylan insisted.
“Someone who will be here soon to help,” Aries said tiredly. “That’s all I can tell you for now. Please excuse me.” She turned and fled the room.
Yuki, who had said nothing at all during all of this, looked at Dylan and Rommie. “If you ask me, which you didn’t, this entire episode showed a remarkable lack of tact on your parts.”
“Tact is for people lacking the intelligence to be witty, Yuki,” Kasei said absentmindedly, “although I must agree with you in this case.”
“Yuki?” Beka asked quizzically.
“That girl is clearly far from home, missing her parents, grieving as if they were both already among the dead, and without any of her friends or anything familiar to her here. True, she knows who we are, but we’re largely familiar as historical figures, not people she grew up with. You acted rashly. This could have been handled better.”
“I needed to know what was going on. For all we knew, she was communicating with the Magog,” Dylan insisted.
“My pardon, Dylan, but she’s a senshi,” Tenshi said gently. “If she had been in league with the Magog, they would have been here by now. Her aura feels healthy to me, and any senshi in league with something as evil as the Magog would have a tainted feel to them.”
“There’s also this feeling of familiarity that none of us can shake about her,” Yumeko spoke up. “It’s odd. None of us had seen her before we met her on Nomaie, but she looks and feels so familiar somehow.”
“Mother was also terrified of her,” Yuki added. “Now, having met my mother, this should mean something.” He looked at Kasei. “Nomaien women don’t scare easily.”
Rhade kept looking at the door during the entire exchange, only tearing his eyes away when Andromeda appeared in front of them. “Captain, the Magog world ship has entered the Terazed system. There’s no indication that they’ve seen us, but there are several swarm ships heading for the capital. ETA is thirty minutes and counting.”
Tenshi turned to Dylan. “We have to get down there,” she said urgently. “Those people will need our help.”
“I agree. After what I saw you do on Callien, they’ll need you. Beka, get the Maru prepped and ready to go.” He turned to the four guardians, Trance, Yuki, and Rhade. “I guess you know better than me what you should be doing. Rommie, I want you to stay here and keep an eye on Aries, just in case. I know she’s your friend, Trance, but you can’t blame me for taking precautions.”
Trance shook her head. “I just want you to know that it’s not necessary.”
“Duly noted. Let’s get going, people!”
When the Maru landed in Terazed’s capital city, the swarm ships were already there, spewing out their cargo of Magog who immediately began feasting on the terrified citizens. The senshi looked at each other and nodded.“Vedra Solar Power…”
“Terazed Planet Power…”
“Fire Elemental Power…”
“Nomaie Planet Power…”
“Water Elemental Power…”
“Air Elemental Power…”
“Earth Elemental Power…”
“Make Up!”
Transformed now, they started attacking the nearest Magog to them. Gradually, they spread out into the city, splitting into teams. Sailor Vedra went with Nomaie Kamen and StarLight, deciding to focus on trying to destroy the swarm ships before they landed. Terazed Kamen teamed up with StarFire, heading into the central parts of the city with Dylan in tow. SStarSinger paired up with StarLove, deciding to wander through the city and take care of whatever they came across. Beka stayed with Vedra’s group while Harper decided to go with SStarSinger’s.
StarFire’s group headed towards the government buildings at the center of the city. Dylan was insistent that they protect the government officials and the Triumvirate. As Terazed Kamen was in agreement, StarFire had no other choice but to tag along. This was the first time since her healing that she’d transformed and was a little nervous about using her powers still. They reached the offices of the Triumvirate after going through a couple bands of Magog. Terazed himself was responsible for killing most of them as was Dylan. StarFire spent most of her energy keeping herself from getting killed and sending the Magog into the range of Dylan’s forcelance and Terazed’s lethal powers. Just outside the building, they came across a group of High Guard lancers gunning down any Magog that got came into range. They turned their weapons on Terazed Kamen and StarFire.“Identify yourselves,” their leader insisted.
“Cool it, Major,” Dylan said as he approached. “Their friends of mine. They’ve come from a very far away place to help fight the Magog.”
The major lowered his weapon. “You can’t be too careful, captain.”
“I’m not faulting you for doing your duty. Are the Triumvirs safe?”
“They were escorted to their offices as soon as the swarm ships were spotted.”
“We’d like to see them.”
“Of course.” He unlocked the door and let them into the building.
The trio ran up the stairs to the offices of the Triumvirate. All three were in Tri-Lorn’s office, trying to figure out what to do. They saw Dylan and the two senshi and stared. While Terazed Kamen himself wasn’t anything particularly odd to look at, StarFire’s blank leather uniform brought a lot of stares. She simply met their gaze with her cold blank eyes.
“We’re glad you could get here so quickly, Dylan,” Tri-Lorn said, sounding very frantic. “Who are your friends?”
“We’re warriors from far away,” StarFire told him. “Our names are unimportant. Normally, we wouldn’t interfere in the matters of a galaxy not our own, but since the Magog will most likely turn their attention in our direction once they’ve destroyed your Tri-Galaxies it’s in our best interests to help you destroy them.”
“Your help is appreciated,” Tri-Camille said. “Now please, save our people.”
“What about the rest of your crew, Captain Hunt?” Tri-Jemma asked.
“They’re already here, helping fight Magog,” Terazed Kamen told her. “Don’t worry. They’re perfectly safe.”
“And your guests? The princesses?”
StarFire smirked. “They’re doing what they do best: being themselves.”
That seemed to relax them. “Now that we know you three are safe, we’ll head back out there and make sure that as few of your people die as possible.” Dylan smiled reassuringly. “It’ll be ok.”
“That’s very optimistic of you, Dylan,” StarFire told him as they left.
“It’s better to reassure them than to have them think the worst, StarFire,” he told her as they left the building. “It creates less panic that way.”
“While to much panic is bad for you, too little is equally dangerous, Dylan,” she warned, sending the spiked heel of one of her black leather bots flying into the stomach of a charging Magog. Dylan quickly dispatched it with a blast from his Force Lance.
“Terazed Serious Laser!” Terazed Kamen shouted, blasting a hole through a group of Magog. “StarFire, why aren’t you using your powers?”
“There’s no real need for it. When I need to I will.”
“You’re not afraid to, are you?”
“Of course not.” Just to prove her point, she called up a blazing ring of fire around a Magog, incinerating it. “I just didn’t feel like it.”
“I just had to check.”
The use of her powers had left her feeling a little shaky, even if what she’d done was relatively minor. She was glad for once to be behind both Terazed and Dylan so that they couldn’t see just how pale and shaky she was.
Back at the Eureka Maru’s landing site, Sailor Vedra, Nomaie Kamen, and StarLight were using their powers to blast the swarm ships out of the sky. They’d attracted quite an audience. Beka had gone up in her ship to take them down from the sky, figuring that her ship’s guns were pretty much useless on the ground. Nomaie’s Desert Storm attack succeeded in blinding the swarm ships while Vedra’s Solar Flare got some of the ones higher up in the sky and StarLight’s Double Snake Twist, having a shorter range, got the ones that had managed to get closer to the ground. The Maru just went wherever Beka could find a target. After they’d been at it for an hour, they finally ran out of ships to destroy. The three senshi looked around.
“Does this strike anyone else as being odd?” StarLight asked.
“Normally they just keep attacking,” Vedra said, nodding. “There’s something else going on here.”
“Let’s wait for Beka to land before we do anything else,” Nomaie suggested. “I wonder how the others are faring, if it’s just our area that’s clear of Magog.”
It was, actually. SStarSinger, StarLove, and Harper were backed into a corner by a large group of Magog. Harper was, understandably, scared. The last thing he wanted was to become a host to Magog eggs again. The two guardians were hammering away at them with their powers, but they just kept coming.“Great. Just great,” Harper said, looking around. “This isn’t the way I wanted to go out.”
“We’re not going to die, Harper,” StarLove told him. “This is just a temporary setback.”
“Oh yeah? Well, if its so temporary, why does it feel like we’re going to die?”
“Death isn’t so bad, Harper,” StarSinger told him. “We’ve done it quite a lot.”
“That wasn’t very comforting.”
“It wasn’t meant to be. Water Dragon!” The blast knocked a few Magog over, but as she expected, a few more came forward to replace their fallen brethren. “Yeah, it figures.”
“Now what?”
“You’re the genius Harper, not us,” StarLove said, blasting a group of Magog.
“Energy Lance!”
Several beams of white hot energy shot down from the sky above the Magog, incinerating them until there were none left to take their place. A lone figure walked towards them out of the smoke. Harper aimed his gun at the figure. “Who are you?” he asked, his voice shaking.
When she came into view, she stopped. “You might want to consider pointing that somewhere else. I’m not going to hurt you.”
Spotting her black and white sailor collar, StarSinger stepped forward. “We’re glad for your timely assistance, Sailor…”
“I regret that I cannot give you my name yet, but soon. Besides, there are more important things to do right now. There is a reason why the Magog are here. We must go. Hurry!” She took off, running back the way she’d come. StarSinger and StarLove exchanged a puzzled glance and took off after her with Harper following behind them.
Te strange sailor senshi led them to where the Eureka Maru was. She looked around. “They’re not here.”“Who?” Singer asked.
“Vedra, Nomaie, and StarLight. They’re supposed to be here.”
“Well, maybe they went off to help other people,” Harper suggested, looking around. “From the looks of things, they had quite a blast, knocking those swarm ships out of the air.” He paused. “Get it? Blast?”
The new senshi rolled her eyes. Clear from the smoke, they got a good look at her. She was wearing a black sailor collar around her neck, the hallmark of all sailor senshi. Around her neck was a white ribbon, tied in a knot in the front, leaving long tails down to her waist. Her arms were mostly covered in white silk gloves, coming up nearly to her shoulders. Around her right wrist was a black cuff set with a blood red stone. Her white bodice looked vaguely like a tuxedo jacket with no sleeves complete with tails. Her skirt was black and fell straight to her mid thigh with a bit of lace and around the edge. On her feet was a pair of knee length white boots with spiked heels. Her dark brown hair was short, curling around her ears.
As Harper made his bad joke, Dylan, Terazed, and StarFire came running up. They stopped short, seeing the new girl. “Who’s that?” Dylan asked.
StarSinger shook her head. “She’s not saying.”
Terazed walked up to her. “You look really familiar to me.”
She shrugged. “I get that a lot. You’ll find out who I am sooner or later.” Overhead, a larger version of the Magog swarm ships began heading towards them with an escort of the smaller ones. “Though it looks to be sooner rather than later.”
“I thought swarm ships only came in one size.”
“It’s something they aren’t supposed to have yet,” the black and white senshi said knowingly. “They shouldn’t have developed them for another fifteen years, give or take.”
“You wouldn’t happen to be Aries, would you?” Dylan asked.
“No, but I know her.”
“You’re the person she was speaking with then?” StarFire asked.
“How do you know about that?”
“My ship’s avatar shows a remarkable amount of free thought and incentive,” Dylan told her.
“Ah yes, the stories of Rommie, avatar of the great Commonwealth warship Andromeda Ascendant. I’ve heard them all my life, but I never quite believed them.” She shook her head. “Yes she was talking to me. Where is she?”
“Up on my ship,” Dylan informed her.
“Are you insane? We need her down here.”
“I could have Rommie bring her here in a slipfighter.”
“That will take too long.” She built up an energy charge between her hands and flung it up into the air. It exploded, sending out a large shower of sparks. “Any senshi watching either from space or from the ground will see that and come.”
Sure enough, Vedra’s group came running. Spotting the black and white senshi, Vedra stopped dead. “What are you doing here?”
“I told Aries I’d come. I was expecting her to be here.” The girl looked up at the descending ships. “Hopefully, she gets here soon. I have a really bad feeling about this.”
“Do you know what’s in those ships?” Terazed asked her.
She nodded. “Yes, I do. I believe that the one in that larger ship is the one responsible for changing the past and inciting the conflict in my time period. If we can destroy him now, in this time…well, no sense in getting ahead of myself is there?”
The senshi, save for the new one, Dylan, Beka, and Harper watched as the ships landed. They tensed, unsure of what to expect.
