CHAPTER XXX
“I have something I want you to wear.” Garak said, motioning the pet over. Julian wandered over. Garak had a box in his hands. He gasped as the box was opened and two bracelets were revealed. Each was set with a glowing green oblong stone fragment. Garak put them over Julian's wrists. “Thank you,” Julian said, lifting them up and inspecting them. He had seen this bracelet design before. It had been almost seven years ago now. They had orb fragments in them. Hopefully, he could find out how to use them to contact the prophets. “I want you to have this hypospray as well. If we are to try to offer you as a child care servant, you being aroused at any point for any reason would be a bad thing,” Garak said gently. He rubbed the pet's back. Julian was surely going to make a fuss. “How long will it last?” Julian asked, feeling a twinge of annoyance. He mentally went over the list of items he had put in the emergency medical kit. “Eight hours,” Garak said, nuzzling the pet. Julian nodded. He held still while the hypospray was administered. Garak kissed the place and stroked Julian's neck. It really was too bad that the hypospray was necessary. It would be fun to show Julian the pleasure of a surprise orgasm, showing off his beauty afterward to the other Cardassians in the process. “Thank you for not being difficult. Let's go.” Garak said, reaching over and attaching the leash. The pet had been much softer toward him since coming back from Tskara's training the other day. He smiled as Julian moved close to him, touching his shoulder lightly. Julian followed him quietly after they were transported to the Dukat's home. He looked around. Tskara had been remarkably informative on how to deal with Garak. Garak had been a changed Cardassian. And the biggest adjustment was only in how he spoke to him. Asking questions in a way that showed he understood their different 'roles.' Julian rolled his eyes. He was slowly integrating the physical teachings he had learned. It would do him no good to have Garak think he was being manipulated. “JULIAN!” a little girl's voice shouted as they walked into the clearing decorated with almost everything done in a shade of purple. A lilac ribbon with purple silk flowers was woven through her hair. “I knew it. I knew it! Dung Beetle brought you!” Palira held her arms up to Julian, demandingly shaking them in an order to pick her up. She took a purple velvet ribbon from her pocket with a Cardassian data rod hanging from it. “It's for you!” she announced, proudly attempting to affix it around Julian's neck. “It means you are mine. And you listen to me!” She kissed Julian's cheek and bounced on his arm. “Little girl, he still belongs to me,” Garak said, flicking the leash up to show her. Palira whimpered, and tried to tie the ribbon around Julian's neck. Surely the dung beetle was joking. It wasn't funny. “Palira, you heard Mr. Kamar. Julian is still his,” Procal said, coming over and taking the velvet ribbon away. “But it's my birthday.” Palira said, reaching for the ribbon with tears rising in her eyes. She looked at Julian helplessly. “That's right,” Julian whispered, cuddling her close as tears trickled. “That means that Mr. Kamar is going to let me play desert riding hound with you. And I think you will like your present very well. Mr. Kamar says if your grandpa and daddy agree, I will come and watch you five days per week.” “YAY!” Palira cheered, hugging his neck. “Daddy will be here soon! You will like him. He is nice, and he loves me. He will let you watch me.” Palira pointed to herself. “I am sure he does. You are a good girl.” Julian said, allowing Palira to point and direct him about a little to show him the decorations and a large rectangular torte like cake which she said was just for birthdays. Many Cardassians came up to them and smiled at Palira, showing her presents and setting them on a long table already covered. At one point he saw Tskara walking on the arm of Legate Ghemor. She raised a brow at him and motioned him to look somewhere. When he did, he saw Procal Dukat watching him. Procal nodded slightly and looked Julian over from head to foot. Palira was chattering happily about her daddy and how he helped the Bajorans, making sure they had more food and little babies did not have to work and how Bajorans did not understand how lucky they were. Julian turned, lifting his head a little and looking for Garak. As he did, he found himself face to face with Gul Dukat as he walked up confidently to stand behind Palira. Several other children were winding their way through the crowd to the man. “I always listen to Daddy.” Palira gave a big nod. “So should 'Jorans.” “You are Daddy's little precious one.” Palira turned in Julian's arms. “DADDY! Hold me!” Palira held her arms out to the officer, making direct eye contact with him. Gul Dukat reached forward and took the little girl by her waist. Palira reached around his neck and peppered his cheek with kisses. She rubbed her forehead against his cheek and giggled. “I love you, Daddy. I'm your Palira.” “You are daddy's sweet little girl.” Gul Dukat squeezed the little girl softly. “This is Julian. He's a doctor. He took care of my hurts,” Palira said, glaring around as more hands and shouts of 'Daddy' rang out and her perch in her father's arms was challenged by a boy tugging on her ankle. Gul Dukat was soon surrounded by six boys ranging in age from seventeen to five. They all wrapped their arms around him. Julian backed up. It was difficult to watch, knowing that the Palira from his time was nothing like this innocent child. That she had a sister right now, who would be dead. He wanted to be good to her. “Daddy, I'm big. I just started learning weapons at school,” the smallest of the boys said. “I'm proud of you, Mekor. But you must be careful.” Gul Dukat stroked the boy's hair. “Daddy is here for me!” Palira shouted. “I haven't gotten to say everything yet! It's my birthday!” “What else do you need to tell Daddy?” Gul Dukat kissed the spoon ridge on her forehead several times. “An explanation about the makeup would be a good start.” “It's for my birthday, so I looked pretty for you. I do look pretty?” she asked, raising a hand to rub at the makeup if her father answered in the negative. “Daddy thinks you are the prettiest girl here.” Palira raised her chin. She looked around imperiously at all the other people. She was the Princess of the party. Her daddy was here. “And Julian took care of my hurts. When the bad boy pushed me down, and Glinn was not there. I cried and shouted. Julian took care of me. He is going to take care of me when you are working now.” Palira said, rubbing her nose on her father's cheek. “I don't know.” Gul Dukat glared at Julian suspiciously. “But he fixed my hurts. It is good to have him watch me. He fixed them good. No marks!” “Daddy will think about it. A male child care servant is unusual. I am not sure I approve,” he said, petting the baby's hair as she put her cheek on his shoulder. “He is very nice, Daddy. I love Julian.” she leaned over. She kissed Julian's nose and tugged on his sleeve. Julian lifted his hand to hold hers. “Daddy wanted you to start doing some learning exercises with Tskara,” Gul Dukat said, cupping the baby's cheek so she looked into his eyes. Palira was quiet. She rested her cheek on Dukat's shoulder. Julian took a step back to try to return to Garak as he noticed Procal watching him again. “JULIAN!” Palira cried, holding her hand out bossily to him. “It's my birthday!” Gul Dukat spun and gave the human a dirty look. If the human was going to upset little Palira, he would earn a quick lesson. Julian stepped close and took her hand. He looked around for Garak, but Garak seemed to have vanished for the moment. He wandered about the party, following Palira and Gul Dukat at the little girl's insistence. “Skrain.” “Tskara,” Gul Dukat reached a hand for her. Tskara stepped close and allowed herself to be given a brief embrace. “It's good to see you, Skrain.” She leaned up and kissed his cheek. “I'm very proud of you.” She nodded to Julian. Her eyes slid from his back to someone behind Julian. Julian nodded. Tskara and Gul Dukat leaned close and walked about the party in a conversation. Everyone at the party had approached them and spoken softly. Sometime later, Tskara left Dukat, giving his cheek a small kiss. She sat between the Legate's legs on the ground with her cheek resting on his thigh. Julian looked around for Garak for what felt like the hundredth time. The man had disappeared, though Julian was certain that Garak could see him and keep an eye on him from wherever he was. “Daddy, I want to do the toy hunt! Julian will carry my toys.” “Stay where Daddy can see you, Precious,” Gul Dukat said, kissing over her cheeks before setting her down. His lip curled up as he observed Julian still staying close to the child. “Come with me, Julian.” Palira took his hand and wandered off through the party. “I want juice!” She pointed to the table set with kava juice. Julian handed her a glass. He breathed out heavily when he turned to be face to face with Procal. “Come Julian.” Palira sipped some juice. “Grandpa wants to talk to Julian, Palira. Go do the toy hunt.” “But Grandpa. He is to carry my toys.” “Palira, I think your daddy would love to do that with you.” “Daddy would do a toy hunt?” Palira's eyes shone at the idea. Palira walked off happily carrying her juice. She went and hugged Julian's leg. “Is it okay, Julian?” “You should hunt with your daddy. I know he would love to spend more time with you. He loves you so much.” Julian said, petting her head. “I'll find Mr. Kamar. I am sure he is missing me as well.” “Is he your best friend?” “Yes,” Julian said. “He is.” Julian looked around. Where was Garak? Procal held out a hand to Julian, gesturing to a return to the adult crowd at the party. ~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~
