CHAPTER XXXVI
“Garak, what is going on?” Julian asked, setting a meal on the table. He poured a glass of electric blue kanar and placed it in front of the Cardassian.
“Whatever do you mean, Julian?” Garak asked. “Dukat said you would explain.” Julian said, walking back to the replicator. “Oh that. We are going on an all expenses paid trip to a vineyard in the Dahkur Province. Dukat just wants you to check over his Bajoran mistress.” Garak took a sip of kanar to hide his disgust. Julian's eyes narrowed as he ordered Plomeek soup from the replicator. Dukat had asked what he knew about Cardassian physiology, not Bajoran. He was not—Naprem. Naprem was the name of Ziyal's mother. He had to be...he couldn't let Garak find out. Not that it would long be a secret from the crafty man. Julian set his soup on the table and sat down. The scent wafted up to him, making him sigh. “That brings something else to mind, Julian,” Garak said, eating some of the odd human savory lamb stew that Julian had insisted he should taste. It was quite agreeable. Much more delicious than he had thought it would be, though it did need some Yamok sauce. Julian looked over at Garak. What could his sly friend be up to now? “I think it would be wise for you to have access to knowledge on Cardassian physiology and anatomy.” Julian's jaw dropped. His eyes widened. Where the hell was this coming from? “Bajor is a dangerous place and bad things may happen. I prefer to be amply prepared for any opportunities.” The more people who cherished Julian, the better off the sweet human would be. “This is the eve of the Cardassian withdrawal from Bajor.” Julian looked up, remembering the last time he had heard that phrase from Garak. “And I do not believe that you would use the medical information against me. You are too gentle,” Garak said, scowling a little. The human's tender heart was going to get them into trouble. Julian stared at Garak, forgetting the soup in front of him. “Garak, have I ever hurt anyone?” “No, and some people you have helped, it would have been better for you to have ignored.” Julian scowled. Like he would ever ignore someone who was in pain and needed his help. Especially a little child. Palira was a sweetheart, and Mekor had been trying to impress his father. Julian could understand that. “I want you to learn the information as quickly as you can. We leave for Bajor in two days. We will be traveling in Dukat's personal shuttle with him. Won't that be fun? I want you to stay at my side.” “Why?” Julian asked, looking Garak over. He was going to be able to do so much with this information when he returned to his own time. He would be able to use it to save more lives. “Dukat will not do anything to alienate you.” Garak sneered at the thought. Dukat was disgusting. He had a wife and seven children. And he still paraded about with his mistress, and he may even have done something far worse than disrespecting the mother of his children. Garak reached for Julian. “You think he would try to hurt you?” Julian asked, allowing Garak to direct him closer. “Why? You haven't done anything to him.” Yet, Julian's mind added. “The Dukats see you as something of exceptional value.” Julian touched the sides of Garak's neck. He longed to warn Garak to stay away from the Dukats. But he could not interfere with the timeline. He had to let events unfold as they would. Garak hissed, stroking Julian's ass softly. He looked up at the human and felt a scowl. He directed Julian to his lap. The Dukats would surely attempt to take Julian away from him. Julian wiggled a little. He stroked along Garak's shoulder. Julian looked away as the memory of the last time he looked into future Garak's eyes rose in his mind along with his last statement. He bit back the urge to punch Garak. “Garak, we have to be careful. I want you to be kind no matter what we may find out.” Garak made a non committal hiss and stood up, holding onto Julian. “Clean up the mess and come upstairs. We need to get packed. Bajor is going to be cold,” Garak scowled. At least, he had a cozy friend for snuggling. “How long of a trip will it be?” Julian asked, resisting the urge to pinch the neck ridges. Would Garak want to see him when he got back to his time? He wanted to punish Garak. Had Garak been saying that Julian would see him, but he would not see Julian in a sense? Had he been hinting that Julian would be sent to the past? We live in uncertain times. What were all the interpretations of that statement? He had to know that Julian would come looking for him when he got back...unless...unless he was going to die in the past. “A couple of days,” Garak said, stepping back. Julian was far too distracting. The human knew how to be completely desirable. “Don't worry. I am endothermic. I will keep you warm at night.” Julian said, stepping back and gathering the dirty dishes. He took them and deposited them in the replicator before following Garak upstairs to pack a few bags. ~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
