CHAPTER XXXVII
Julian laid the stack of eleven pads on the table in the main area of Dukat's modestly sized personal shuttle. He reached out, plucking one up about the Cardassian respiratory system. He tucked his legs up, putting his bare feet on the seat cushion as he absorbed everything. His knees gradually slid apart. Garak stared at Julian. Could the human be more lascivious? He almost hissed. Bajor might make the perfect place to claim Julian. Julian wiggled. “Julian, are you thirsty?” Garak asked, looking the human over. He needed to get the human out of that position. It was far too arousing to think about the seats reclining and the joy of this being a more private trip. All he could think about was lifting Julian's hips a little higher and watching the large, beautiful eyes as he penetrated him. “No, but I would be happy to get something for you,” Julian said, swinging his legs down. He smiled at Garak. “Red leaf tea would be good,” Garak said, shifting and spreading his legs. He spun in his seat so his legs were no longer under the computer console, but could still see the readings. “May I get you anything, Gul Dukat?” Dukat looked over at them. “A cup of ginger tea would be agreeable.” Dukat said, looking the human over. The human was clearly odd, and like Bajorans, had a servile and softer nature. The only difference was that Julian, like the other human pets, seemed to know his place, whereas Bajorans still believed that they were equal to Cardassian. He was their friend, their protector. Thy could be a little more grateful. It was difficult to be kind to them. Julian nodded. He walked to the back of the main cabin and ordered the drinks from the replicator. His eyes widened slightly when he found root beer in the replicator's memory. He felt a sudden urge of thirst. “May I have something?” Julian asked. “I am a little thirsty.” He looked at the replicator. He rolled his eyes. He should not have to ask, but Garak and Dukat both enjoyed the feeling of power. “Of course. If you are thirsty,” Garak said, turning to look over the human. Julian was not being his usual uppity self. Of course, he was thoroughly being occupied with padds on Cardassian physiology. Maybe the key was to keep the human engaged to keep him happy. He was more Cardassian than Garak had given him credit for being. Julian sighed and ordered the beverages. They appeared on a small tray. He picked it up and carried it, delivering the drinks. “Thank you, Julian,” Garak said. Dukat nodded his thanks, watching the human move back to Kamar. Why had his father claimed the human had a nasty tongue? Julian was the essence of politeness. His father was right about one thing, and that was that Julian would be a fine addition to the household. All he had to do was get rid of Kamar and the human could belong to him without a fuss. “Are you making headway with your reading? We should be arriving at Terok Nor in twelve hours,” Dukat said, looking over as Julian walked back from the replicator after putting the tray in it. “From there, we will transport to the surface.” Julian nodded. “Can you tell me anything about the patient's symptoms? I have read through much of the information, but without having an idea of what to look for, I worry that I might not be prepared for every contingency.” “You'll just have to wait till we get there.” Dukat said, turning back to his console and leaning back in his chair. He cast a sideways glance at Garak. He would not talk about Ziyal in front of Kamar. The man might be a heartless, cold-blooded killer. Julian wandered back over to his padds. A hand wrapped around his wrist. He looked down and saw Garak's hand. Garak tugged lightly on the wrist. He stroked his thumb over Julian's radial notch. Julian stepped closer to Garak, and his wrist was released. Julian slid his fingers into the fine Cardassian hair, teasing the spoon shaped indentation on the Cardassian's forehead. He kissed it softly, pressing his leg to Garak. “May I sit closer to you?” Julian asked, taking a sip of his root beer. “I welcome it,” Garak whispered, sliding a hand through the opening at the bottom of Julian's white and gold shirt. He touched the soft stomach. “Let me grab the padds.” Julian said, tracing his finger over the ear ridge. He set his glass down with a sliding motion, pushing the other glass back softly. Garak released Julian. The beverage the human had been holding looked vile. It bubbled and fizzed. Julian placed the glass of root beer down next to Garak before moving and gathering the padds. He turned his back to Garak, tucking one of the padds into his shirt. He would save that one for later. He was certain he would be seeing Ziyal, and that made male specific Cardassian anatomy irrelevant. But it would be important to read that one over. Garak took Julian's waist as soon as the human was close enough. He directed the human to the chair closest to him. Julian rested a hand on Garak's forearm. He squeezed softly. Garak reached over. He grasped Julian's root beer by mistake, lifting it to his lips. The sweet smell caught his nose and the sound of the bubbles. He sneered, setting the cup aside. “You can taste it if you want,” Julian said, holding back his smile at the look on Garak's face. “I don't think so,” Garak said, setting the glass down away from him with another grimace. Julian shifted closer to Garak, smiling as he picked up the mug and took a sip. Garak took a gulp of his red leaf tea. “You really ought to try new things,” Dukat said, leaning back and turning toward Garak and Julian. “It can be amazingly rewarding.” Julian reached a hand for Garak's neckridge. “Loyalty is of far greater importance to me,” Garak said, sliding a hand protectively to Julian's neck. Julian looked between the Cardassians. “Trying something new does not mean abandoning tradition. And you must admit, the new can often be rewarding.” Dukat lifted his chin observing the way Julian was sitting with Garak. “When it is not at the expense of the right and proper,” Garak returned, directing Julian closer so the human's cheek rested on his shoulder. “The new can easily be seen as just as right and proper in time,” Dukat returned. “Innovation is the key. A creative, but still disciplined mind.” “The new can just as easily become a danger if the future takes a different shape than the innovator envisions. The ability to procure something is not always a sure sign that it should be procured. Foresight is the key. Vanity must never be allowed to replace ability.” Dukat went silent, turning back to his screens and readouts. Garak let out a slow breath, widening his eyes a little. Dukat was barely more interesting a conversationalist as his father. Garak knew Dukat was swaggering and prideful, but he never would have dreamed the Gul was that stupid. The Gul clearly suffered from an inability to turn off his own voice motivated by self love for its sound. Maybe he would invent charges of treason against the younger Dukat when he finished his investigation of the older. Dukat was so arrogant that he would not even have to invent them. Dukat likely had already engaged in the activities to initiate his fall from grace. Julian slid a hand over the back of Garak's neck softly to sooth the Cardassian. What had all that been about? Garak gently removed Julian's hand. It was going to be another boring twelve hours. He could only hope he would be allowed to spend them in silent reflection. Julian scowled a little, but returned to his reading. ~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~*~-~-~
