“Trance acts like it was pretty intimate, but Talis acts like it was and surely its over in her eyes; yet there is some strange underline current between them.” Beka said, thinking of the way Trance reacted earlier.
“There is an underline current between them all. I don’t know if we will get all of the interdynamics of the Cabal squad.” Dylan said as he sat up.
“Captain, the hour is now thirteen-fifteen. You wanted a reminder as we still have a few hours before we reach Chiaotzu system.” Andromeda said, appearing before them.
“On our way.” Beka said as she got up, tossing Dylan his pants.
“On my way.” Dylan said, smiling at Beka as he began to dress.
Both crews convened on the bridge again. Shortly after, Andromeda appeared on screen. "Captain, incoming message." She said, looking at Talis and if she could, blushed. Dylan walked towards the screen, "Open channel." Andromeda paused, "It's addressed to Chancellor Xhalax." Xhalax looked at Talis and shrugged. "Uh, put it through." Xhalax said, stepping forward. Dylan stepped back, looking a little surprised by the situation.
A voice comes through the comm, “We regret that at this moment Dayci and Karri have at this point; refused to continue on in the negotiations you’ve have set with their governments. I’m sorry Chancellor Xhalax; there is a higher B.4.E on you five.” Xhalax looked at Talis and sighed. "I knew this might happen." Talis stated in an even tone.
Harper looked at Xhalax, "Uh, what is B.4.E?" Xhalax smiled slightly, "B.4.E stands for Bid For Elimination. Means there’s a price on our heads."
“Four thousand Jadrad’s for the Cabals, Eight thousand for Xhalax and twenty million for you Talis. The next course of action is up to you. A disappearance wouldn’t hurt until things cool down and we find out whom got to the governments on Dayci and Karri to change their minds on the new alliance.” end transmission. The room got quiet.
“That is quite a price tag on all of yours head.” Tyr pointed out. “You will have every bounty hunter, any one with a grudge, hell, any one who can operate a craft and gun coming out of the woodwork.” Harper continued with the obvious.
“For that amount of money I wouldn’t be surprised if Niamh did me in while I slept.” Talis grinned.
“Pardon?” Rommie asked as the Ou’kaourians chuckled.
“Niamh is one of my children. She does have her eye on a pair of paarden in a wonderful shade of pink.” Talis said, smirking and almost chuckling.
“Well you do have all that open acreage, anyone would love to have. And she does have this obsession with the paarden.” Commander Rel pointed out.
“As she should have.” Talis grinned.
“This obsession she might follow thru; although to reseq at her age will hurt.”
“Reseq?” Tyr asked, unfamiliar with the term.
“Our world people can sequence and resequence certain genes; it is done when a person has completed the basics in schooling and training. When they have decided on a career. Either way, its painful.” Lieutenant Tenc explained.
“Have you?” Tyr softly asked.
“No I haven’t. It isn’t the Shadowrychë way.” Talis stated with obvious pride.
“So then it can be assumed that the rest of your squad has been?” Tyr said, impressed by these newcomers.
“Yes including the Chancellor. The Shadowrychë have already been enhanced to be the best survivors, it is the Primogenitor’s desire. While the Ou’kaourians admire that quality so they in turned, started to modify themselves but like it was already stated, after training and schooling. In our line of work, we have to be the best. Even then, it is hard to compete with the Captain. There are a few things she can do we couldn’t.” Lieutenant Rylanar told them.
“Wait….are you saying that….that bubble that you arrived in, we pulled you into our ship…..that was Talis’ doing?” Beka gasped.
“Yes.” Xhalax proudly stated.
“There is more to you than meets the eye.” Tyr stated.
“Hey, could you introduce new DNA for something you don’t have? Like bone-blades?” Harper asked, curious about whether it was possible or not.
“Yes, our geneticist would work with the sequence to incorporate it and then active the sequence in the person’s DNA.” Talis with a grin.
“Could you explain what your mask is made of? Could I see it?” Harper asked, “Purely for an engineering point of view.”
“I can give you a piece of it. The mask itself does not come off ever. The material is called Duranilite, a new element since it’s bio-engineered.” Talis dug thru one of her smallest pockets to bring out a four by five inch square. She walked over to Harper, placing in his palm.
“So, it isn’t nanobot technology?” Harper
“No, its a man-made combined fabric, so that it can respond to a person’s thoughts and commands; if you asked it, it will turn different colours, shapes, thickness and so forth.” Talis stated, lightly touching her mask with her fingertip.
Harper and Rommie examined the fabric, turning into colours and shapes.
“Harper, its not a pet…give it here!” Beka demanded.
“You said your face is never bare?” Dylan asked, amazed by the fact.
“Correct, the last time was at birth and only then for a few minutes.” Talis stated, with a smile.
“What about showering and sleeping?” Dylan again asked, curious.
“My mask is always on; it is a part of me like an arm or a leg. No one has seen my bare face.” Talis commented, looking at the Andromeda crew.
“What if you went on some planet that wouldn’t understand…” Dylan asked her, still amazed by her answers thus far.
Talis spoke a few soft-spoken commands and the mask changed, blending the already thin edges to fade into the jaw and into the hairline of her face. The heritage lines disappearing altogether, stunning both crews.
“Put it bach!” commanded the Ou’kaourians and Trance. Talis obligated them, in a few brief seconds she looked like her self.
“I can feel the harshest spark to the softest caress, rain, tears. The mask doesn’t stop me from feeling nor does it stop me from expressing myself.” Talis explained and then crossed her eyes, scrunching her face up making Harper and Beka grin.
“Does it grow with you or do you replace them?” Rommie
“Now the mask grows with the Shadowrychë. Before, they were replaced when the person out grew the old one. Most either chooses a flesh-tone to wear all the time or for others, in case of some battles.” Talis’ face turned a dull gunmetal grey, making the heritage lines stand out even more. Trance and Xhalax gasped at Talis’ newest appearance. Then she asked her mask to turn bach to normal, both women let out a sigh of relief.
The ship shifted suddenly, tossing every one almost to the floor.
“Andromeda report!” Dylan said, straightening himself up.
“Fourteen small fighter ships have appeared on the port side. The only message is that they come for the B.4.E.” her reply.
“Twenty million Talis, seems to be more than just your daughter interested.” Tyr stated with some arrogance.
Talis chuckled, “This does keep one on one’s toes.” She grinned at Tyr.
“Andromeda deploy defensive kinetic kill missiles. One thru twenty. NOW!” Dylan ordered, looking at Rommie.
“Deploying DM-5 standard defensive kinetic kill missiles, Aye Captain.” Rommie replied, quickly doing as ordered.
Beka jumped into the pilot’s chair while Tyr manned his station; together they were able to destroy the small fleet.
“Well, I have to give it to Sayid, he didn’t make my life go from simply complicated to infinitely complicated in relatively a short time span. Then again, I expected as so. We can buy sometime for peace by going to Shinhan Cluster.” Talis simply said.
Xhalax looked shocked at Talis’ suggestion, “That place is forbidden to all non-Shadowrychë.” Xhalax stated, knowing full well Talis knew that too.
“True; for the right circumstances they will allow the Andromeda and guests to visit. I’ll make the necessary arrangements.” Talis said as she made her way to contact them.
Coordinating the proper coordinates with Lieutenant Rylanar, gave Talis the time needed with Andromeda's communications to allow her to contact the Aralias world. She needed to explain the current situation. "This is Talis Circe, I need to talk to you about approaching the planet." Talis told the person on Aralias. There was silence, then she got her answer. "This is the planet Aralias, what seems to be the problem?" A voice said to her.
After explaining what had occurred, coupled with Talis’ presence, allowed the Andromeda and Ou’kaourians permission to an otherwise sacred planet.
When they came within visual range, Talis asked Andromeda to open a channel to the planet. When they received a response, Talis put on her best non-expressive face to address the person.
A man appeared on the screen "I am Karel Magnus, it's an honor to meet you." Talis smiled slightly at the comment, "Thank you, as I am honored to meet you. I have a small request." Magnus looked at her, "We shall see if we can oblige it." Talis smiled again. "Thank you. I request permission to come down to the planet with some new allies." After saying that, Magnus’ face changed, "You do know this is a sacred place, forbidden for outsiders..." Talis interrupted him.
“It is in my right to invite all down to Aralias. I would request Captain Dylan Hunt, Beka Valentine, Tyr Anasazi and Mister Harper to join myself, Chancellor Xhalax and my Cabal squad to be presented by the Shadowrychë.” Talis told the person on the screen, looking at the Andromeda crew.
“On behalf of the Andromeda crew…we accept. Rommie, you are in charge.” Dylan told her with a smile.
“Aye Captain.” Rommie said, standing proudly.
