Part IV
Rated: NC-17
“Air games?” Abby’s voice was hoarse from screaming for help for so long when Scott wasn’t around to hear her. He had just brought up the subject of air games and she had no idea what he was talking about but it didn’t sound like it could be a good thing. He continued to sit behind her and brush her hair gently, he liked to brush her hair and she definitely preferred that to him having sex with her, “What exactly are air games?”
“Oh, they are very fun and rather safe, safe for me anyway.” He replied not missing a beat, he continued to brush her hair but when she heard him say that she shuddered slightly and waited for him to elaborate on what he meant by that, “It’s where I choke you when we have sex.”
“Excuse me?”
“Yeah, but I prefer the element of surprise so I’m not going to tell you before I do it. I may do it tonight, I may do it tomorrow, the point is to see you struggle.” He replied and she jerked away from him for just a second wondering what kind of sick weirdo would like to do that during sex. He grabbed her by a handful of hair and pulled her back so she was sitting close to him once more, she didn’t have the rope around her neck now because he had started to trust her enough to take it off but he always locked the door when he came in there, and she was never exactly sure where he put the key. It didn’t matter anyway because she was too weak to run from him, if he chased her then he could have her caught in a matter of moments and she was very malnourished.
“You can’t do that to me.” She heard her voice tremble and then felt her lip follow, then the tears came and she angrily wiped them away, she couldn’t let him see her cry. She had to admit that she was now afraid, what if he got carried away with his little game and ended up killing her? She had seen things like that happen, well not first hand but there had been a few dead bodies come into the ER due to an erotic asphyxiation. He continued to hold her close to him, feeling her body tremble against him was quite arousing, now that he had her where he wanted her it wasn’t going to be hard to break her in.
“Coming up on four days of no sleep.” Carter yawned and then took a sip of his coffee, he was still running the word “Senate” through his head over and over hoping that maybe something would click and he would figure out what it meant, “Don’t worry the record is 11 days.” He was talking to Kerry Weaver who was sitting at the table across from him doing some paper work. She knew that he was getting a little sleep, and she also knew that he had been having nightmares. She was worried about Abby too of course but she certainly didn’t seem to be losing sleep over it, neither did the rest of the staff, and that made Carter feel stupid that he was worrying so much. He was sure that he had a very good reason to worry, and he was also sure that once he figured out what significance the word Senate had he would be able to find out what happened to Abby.
“Well as long as you are getting a few hours a night you should be…”
“Does the word Senate mean anything to you?” Carter interrupted her as he looked down into his coffee mug and swirled the liquid around the sides, he wasn’t really interested in drinking anymore coffee, he had enough over the past few days it was just a force of habit to carry around a mug or sit down with one when he wasn’t busy. Kerry looked at him wondering where that word came from, it certainly didn’t mean anything to her so she shook her head slightly, “Well if you think of anything…and I mean ANYTHING…please tell me I’m definitely open to ideas.” Then without explaining it any further he set down his mug of coffee and walked out of the room to get back to his rounds. She watched him leave and took in a deep breath, ever since he had lost his son he had been acting strange, she shook her head and went back to working on her papers hoping that everything would turn out okay for him soon.
She was lying on her mattress crying, he had just finished having sex with her but he didn’t decide to choke her this time. She was crying because she was relieved but at the same time she was terrified of what he might do to her next time. She pulled the dirty blanket up over her head and started to shiver, she closed her eyes and started to think of Carter…hoping that it might calm her down…
This time Carter wasn’t asleep when his next memory or vision hit, he was wide awake and trying to intubate a patient when his eyes started to well up with tears and his chest got all tight…
“Carter I’m so scared, you have to come and get me please…” Abby’s voice sounded in his head and he turned away from what he was doing and headed out of the room without a word to the other doctors. “Carter please you have to help me…Scott wants to choke me next time…oh god Carter I don’t know what to do!” He sat down in a chair that was right outside of the trauma room and put his hand to his head, not yet being able to connect the name Scott with the word Senate, once he was able to do that he would have his first lead and he would be once step closer in finding Abby.
“Carter?”
“I CAN’T HELP YOU IF I DON’T KNOW WHERE YOU ARE!” He screamed suddenly at the voice that echoed from behind him, it was just Dr. Lewis coming out of the trauma room to see what was wrong with him. She was so startled by his reaction to her that she just sort of backed away and decided to give him some time to calm down from whatever it was he was reacting too.
“Please just stop Scott stop him, you have to find me Carter you just have to f…” After that her voice just stopped and he jerked his head up and looked around as if he expected to see her standing there looking at him. She wasn’t there, she wasn’t in his head and she wasn’t there with him physically and it was killing him to go through all of this. He stomped his foot and got up and walked out of the ER and to the ambulance bay where he did something he hadn’t done in years, he bummed a cigarette from one of the patients out there and he smoked, not so much for himself as it was for Abby.
The next morning Abby was pacing the room hoping that Scott would come in sometime soon with her breakfast, which would probably be a bottle of water and an apple. He had only let her shower once the whole time she had been there and her hair was getting messy, she didn’t like her hair to be greasy, but it wasn’t as if he noticed or even cared. She was trying to think of things she could do but she knew running wasn’t going to work unless he was somehow disabled. So far she wasn’t able to use anything he had given her as a weapon and she knew that having a weapon would be the key to getting the hell out of there. The rope that he had used to tie her up before was still connected to one of the pipes in the wall, hanging there like a noose and when she looked at it she shuddered.
“Carter I think you should go home.” Kerry said to him in a voice as nice as she could muster, it was obvious that the ER wasn’t a place that he should be in currently, “You need to go home and collect yourself before something happens.”
Scott had her down on the mattress and she was struggling for her life when she saw him reach for the rope that was hanging behind her. He slipped it over her neck and tightened it slowly, her hands went to the rope and she tried to pull it loose but she wasn’t strong enough…
Carter’s hands went to his neck, for some reason it felt like he was choking, he loosened his tie but that didn’t do a thing to help. Dr. Weaver watched his actions for a moment wondering if he was going to be okay but to her it looked like he was choking on something…
Abby cried out in pain, the rope was digging into her neck causing burns all around it and she twisted her head trying to get away from it but there was almost no point to struggling. It was getting harder and harder to breathe and spots were dancing in front of her eyes, she wondered how long it would be before she passed out…
Carter stood up and gasped for air, he pounded his hand down onto the table in front of him but no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t get any words out, the only thing he could do was whimper pitifully and hope that this burning sensation around his neck and in his chest would stop…
Just before Abby passed out Scott loosened the rope and she could breathe again, she had barely noticed that he had been pounding into her. His arousal seemed to be fueled by seeing her struggling to breathe and when he let the noose lay slack his thrusting slowed, Abby new she only had moments before he decided to pull the rope taught once again…
“Help…” Carter took in a deep breath when the feeling subsided, and for the life of her Kerry couldn’t figure out what was going on. She then assumed that he was having some kind of panic attack, and all of a sudden she was happy that she had told him to go home, but at the same time she was regretting having to break that news to him like she did. She put an arm around him and helped him lay down on his back, he was on the floor looking up at the ceiling, for the moment he could breathe and things seemed to be okay…
The noose tightened again and Abby cried out, her whimpers were quickly muffled as she attempted to breath as much air as she could even though the rope was tight enough to cut into the soft skin of her neck. She then did the only thing she could do and she put her hands up around Scott’s neck and started to choke him, but he was a lot stronger then she was and he was able to pull away from her grasp…
Carter gasped once again and started to pull at his shirt like some unseen force was choking him once more. Kerry called for help and unbuttoned the top few buttons of his shirt after pulling his tie off wondering what in the world could be causing this kind of reaction in him. The rest of his body seemed normal, he wasn’t having an allergic reaction to anything, she knew he wasn’t because the only thing he had been drinking all day was coffee and she was almost positive that he hadn’t had anything to eat.
“Carter! CARTER! Stay with me here!” She snapped her fingers in front of him and he reached out to her and put his hands around her neck but very weakly, he didn’t know why he did that but to Kerry it just signaled that he was trying to get help with breathing when finally his body went limp and he passed out on the floor of the lounge, “SOMEBODY! I NEED HELP IN HERE!”
When Abby woke up the rope was still around her neck and she was glad to find that she could pull it off. She backed away from the mattress on the floor and into the corner where she curled up and started to cry, she was beginning to think that everything was hopeless. Even if Carter could hear her, even if she could some how talk to him, she didn’t know where she was. For all she knew she could be in another city, she had passed out in her apartment and woken up here and because he had taken her watch she wasn’t even exactly sure how much time had passed. She only knew when days and nights had come because Scott had told her, she didn’t have anything to give her hope, she had nothing to tell her that she was going to be saved. She collapsed to the floor and pounded on it weakly with her tiny fist, her neck ached and her chest burned, she didn’t know if she even wanted to live if this was going to be her life.
“Carter?” Some one was shaking him and he didn’t like it, he just wanted to sleep and for some reason he felt like he wanted to cry. He groaned softly and waved his hand at whoever was shaking him because he wanted them to go away, “Carter…do you know where you are?”
“Huh?” He finally opened his eyes to see that it was Susan standing over him on one side of the bed with Weaver standing on the other side. They both looked incredibly concerned for him but he still wasn’t exactly sure about what was going on, “I’m at county…did I pass out?”
“It would seem like you did.” Dr. Lewis replied looking down at a chart that she was holding in her hands, “Except for the life of all of us we can’t seem to figure out why, what’s the last thing you remember before you had your little attack?” Carter slowly sat up and reached for the glass of water that Kerry was now holding out to him, he took it and drank a sip it felt good going down his now burning throat.
“I was sitting in the lounge, and you had just told me to go home,” he motioned to Weaver when he said ‘you’ so Susan would know what he was talking about, “Then all of a sudden it felt like some one had tied a rope around my neck and started to tighten it.” He put a hand to his neck, it was almost as if he could still fell the material wrapped around it and he shuddered slightly before taking another sip of his water.
“That’s all?” Dr. Lewis replied, although she was sure that Carter was just as confused about all of this as the rest of them were, “You probably had some sort of panic attack, and for that I would suggest going home and getting some rest.”
“Senate…”
“What?”
“Scott Senate…does that name mean anything to you?” He asked once again his words seemingly coming out of the blue, he looked back and fourth between Weaver and Lewis hoping that one of them knew what he was talking about but neither of them seemed to have a clue.
“Get some rest Carter, I’ll be back to check on you in a little while.” Susan smiled at him slightly and then looked to Weaver, she nodded and they both left the room. He laid back on the bed, the last thing he wanted to do was sleep but he knew that he had to. He also knew that he couldn’t forget that name, he yawned slightly and grabbed a pen from the table next to him and wrote the name on his hand, as he drifted off to sleep he looked at it and thought as hard as he could, when he woke up he was going to have to check the name out.
