Chapter three
Nicole was watching the two brothers curiously, looking back and forth between the older one and the younger one. It had been two hours since they�d left the motel and the silence was only interrupted by the music, Metallica: Master of Puppets, as it played for the third time. She liked the band, but the tension in the air was killing her. In a bold move, she leaned forward and turned off the radio.
�What happened between you guys?�
She watched as Dean gripped the wheel tighter, thinning his lips. The brunette smiled, happy that she�d gotten some reaction from the blond, even if it was annoyance.
�Nothing happened.� It was Sam who answered, looking outside the window.
�Yeah...apparently nothing happened at all.� Dean said, pissed off.
The young witch reclined against the back seat and crossed her arms. �Well, it�s obvious something happened. Figure it out, okay?�
�Shut the fuck up and stay out of this,� Dean said crudely.
�Dean,� Sam warned.
�And you, Samuel. Be quiet for another couple of hours, got it?�
The brunet widened his eyes. Dean never used his full name. That only happened once and he�d promised himself that he would never piss Dean off like that ever again.
Apparently he�d failed.
Sam thinned his lips, staring hard at the landscape as they passed by, not wanting to analyze the bothered feeling in his chest because they were too close to the other feelings that shocked the hell out of him last night.

Watsonville, California.
Nine months, twenty days and seven hours. Sam stared at the calendar in his laptop, rubbing his tired eyes. His fingers were losing their agile type ability. He shouldn�t be worried that Dean wasn�t back; after all it was only two in the morning and lately that was early for the blond.
The brunet sighed, stretching his arms and looking at the research in front of him. Two months and nothing! Nothing that could save Dean�s soul. Sam rested his elbows on the wooden table, burying his face in his hands and feeling the start of a headache as he frowned.
He grabbed the headboard hard, his knuckles turning white with the effort. His face was lowered and his breathing was fast.
�You like this? Want more?�
He felt Dean�s hot breath against his neck and shivered. He bit his lips, his skin burning with desire.
�I want you.�
He moaned as his answer provoked a bite to his shoulder.
The knocks on the door were continual and Sam opened his eyes, getting up off the chair so fast that the poor object loudly fell onto the floor.
Why was this happening to him? Why?
�Sam? Are you up?�
He passed his hand over his eyes and took a deep breath before opening the door. �Yeah, Nicole?�
�Did I wake you? The light was on and I thought it was okay for me to come--�
�No, I wasn�t sleeping�well, never mind. What do you want?�
The brunette gave him a piece of paper, staring at him. �Here�s my part of the deal. The beginning at least.�
Sam took the paper and unfolded it, seeing a name, a website and a phone number. �What�s this? Who�s Robert?�
�Someone I know. He majored in Theology and has a great amount of knowledge of myths and legends, especially the ones involving demons. I�m sure he will help you to recognize the demon who made the contract with Dean."
Sam look at her suspiciously, �and after I call him?�
�I told you it was the beginning of our deal, the rest comes after you--�
A crash on the door interrupted her. Another crash and the door flew wide open. Dean came in, a little unbalanced with a blonde woman following him, giggling and drunk.
�Oops! Too much strength on the do-- what this witch is doing here?�
Nicole crossed her arms and arched one eyebrow. �Are you sure that you are in any condition to be asking for explanations?�
�Who is he, baby?� asked the blonde girl, kissing Dean�s shoulder.
Sam narrowed his eyes and crossed his arms, the unsettling feeling gaining strength. He stared at Dean furiously. �Dean, we need to talk.�
The blond stared right back at him with the same anger in his eyes, also crossing his arms. �Really, Sam? You wanna talk to me?�
Nicole bit her lip and moved silently, getting closer to the woman and touching her shoulder. �We better go. Family matters, apparently.�
Without waiting for any answer, Nicole pushed the woman outside the room and closed the door behind them.
Sam glared at the door for a few seconds, then turned to his brother as he opened his arms angrily. �So that�s it? This is the way you�re going to throw your life away? You�re going to give up without a fight?�
Dean went to one of the beds and sat, starting to take off his leather jacket. �In case you forgot Sam, my life is already gone. And yes, I�m not going to fight against the contract and you know why.�
Sam clenched his fists, wanting to punch something and doing his best to control himself so that the something would not be his older brother.
�Two months, man! For two months I see you throwing yourself, head first, into fights, games, drinks...you name it. I�m trying to save you but you seem further and further away!�
The blond suddenly got up and the brunet took two steps back. Dean grabbed his arm in a painfully tight grip. �Away? I�m away? You�ve shoved yourself deeper into those books of yours, not to mention the disgusting way you treated me last night!�
Sam pulled out of Dean�s hold, glaring at him. �So that�s what this is about? Last night?�
�That�s not it!� Dean slid his fingers through his hair in frustration. �You�re so obsessed with this, you�ve forgotten everything around you besides saving me and I...� he looked away.
In two steps the youngest held his brother by the shoulders, not letting him raise his emotional walls.
�And you what, Dean?�
The oldest tried to take the hands off his shoulders but Sam resisted, forcing Dean to hold him by the wrists. The green eyes found his little brother�s.
�I don�t deserve to be saved.�
The brunet�s eyes widened and he stepped quickly back, a lump in his throat. �What happened for you to think that your life is worth so little?� whispered Sam and he internally cursed his voice for coming out so weak.
The blond stared at him for a moment then approached, touching his brother�s face. �My life is nothing next to yours.�
Sam breathed deeply, his heart pounding in his chest. He took the hand off his face, his fingers entwining with Dean�s. �You�re wrong. Your life means a lot to me.�
Something flickered in Dean�s eyes and Sam looked away, the uncomfortable feeling returning to his chest.
�Only say that if you truly care.�
Sam looked at his brother again. �But I really�� He stopped talking when his head started to hurt so badly that he fell to his knees.
"Sam? Sammy!�
He watched everything in disbelief. The body in front of him, a blonde girl in her twenties, was twisting in agony as Dean read the words in Latin. She was screaming and convulsing but his brother didn�t seem to care. Then someone appeared from the shadows and hugged his brother from behind, whispering something on his ear. To his surprise Dean let their dad�s journal fall onto the ground and smiled wickedly. He started the exorcism again but it was nothing like he had heard before.
�Talk to me, Sam!�
The youngest opened his eyes, staring at his brother in front of him. His breathing was irregular and his head was hurting like a motherfucker.
�Sam�come on little brother, say something��

The brunet took a deep breath and little by little he told Dean the strange vision he�d just had. �It was so weird, Dean� that one was not you.�
�Hey.� The blond took his brother�s face between his hands �This vision is not going to happen. You know me better than anyone Sammy, and know I would never hurt something that wasn�t supernatural.�
Sam smiled weakly, but inside he was afraid of that vision coming true.

�You can leave me now, I know my way home,� said the blonde girl, shaking off the hand that was gripping her wrist and walking away.
The person just watched her go and felt the shadow lurking next to her.
"How are our plans going?�
�Everything is as you desired.�
�And the youngest weakness?�
�Being exploited like you told me to.�
The person smiled as her eyes followed the blond figure as they turned the corner far away from them.
�You know what to do.�

The shadow flickered and followed the woman. Seconds later, a scream could be heard through the night and then nothing but silence. She smirked.
�Time for the second part of my plan to begin, Winchesters.�
